Letting the Bad Habits Back In After RNY/Gastric Bypass Weight Loss Surgery
All it took was getting in the mindset of "treating myself" during a 3-week vacation to derail 18 months of good habit building after my gastric bypass surgery. It's a slippery slope! I'm sharing this all with you in the hopes that it will serve as motivation for others to avoid my missteps, as well as motivation for ME to get back on track.

You're feeling like crap because you're eating crap food. If you could find quality nutrition, you'd start to feel better. Having said that, I fully understand the downward spiral of junk food. It's a battle, but acknowledging it is a start, and you've done that. You could keep a food journal for a while and that should help focus. Sigh, I'll probably experience this battle at some point in my journey as well.

I'm getting bypass next Thursday and I'm to be in hospital 4 days of which 2 days will be in high dependency unit, with neck iv, catheter, 2 tubes, so I'm thinking my surgeon is expecting drama. He didn't give me any preoperative instructions, so i watched some youtube surgeons who have different ideas and one talked about the importance of liver shrinkage to get a clear field for the stomach. TH-cam Dr also showed where the retracter can tear the liver easily if it hasn't been shrunk enough presurgery. He said 7 days of 600 calorie, low carb, high protein will be enough to do the job. I'm in ketosis now with a headache. I've dropped 4kg, mostly fluid, and I'll fast on the last day before surgery. My doc told me I'm to do 10 days of clear liquids after, but he hasn't told me the rest yet. I'll get further instruction next week. Hopefully he'll be surprised how nice my liver will look and it could cut down on the intensive care I'm supposed to get.

Work on finding some people to support you in person. When you need it, therapy is a good thing. Most of us have food issues that need to be dealt with. Use your team for sure. Also, a vacation is only a few days. It’s what we do most of the time that determines how we do long term. Obesity is a lifelong effort. Know that most gain 5-20 lbs back and it does NOT mean that you will gain it all back. I am 18 years out post op RNY.

112lb is fine for your height. I was between 94-116lb and I am also quite small at 5ft 2. I was that weight for years until I had my last child. I’m on a diet to reach that weight again because it’s the weight I felt most comfortable as.

I just started my pre-op diet, surgery is in 2 weeks. My doctor says I can have unlimited non starchy veggies and broth. I can only have 6 oz of lean protein a day but I can have 2-3 protein shakes a day. I'm not allowed sugar free jello and I want some sooo bad! lol I also can't have any fruit at all, I get nothing sweet. :( Fingers crossed I make it the whole 2 weeks without cheating.

Sorry but your not saving the earth. Nobody is. The container of yogurt can be recycled but those bottled waters and paper towels cant be. I dont buy bottled water, we have well water which is the best IMO and I consider bottled water a waste of money. Dont forget only 9% of what you recycle is actually recycled. But it created more gov jobs, so theres that. What we dont recycle we ship to 3rd world countries so we dont see it here. The earth is going to do whats it always done. The ones screaming climate change are flying around the world in their private jets and buying beach front property but telling you to take shorter showers. Its all a fraud.

You should seek other doctors, the one you went to; doesn't seem interested in helping you but the money part of it. I've seen many videos here on TH-cam were insurance covers the work you want done. Some you tubers have said that insurance covers one job at at time about every 4 months. Watch many videos on surgery after weight loss. It's the only body you have you made such an effort in getting to the weight you are. Don't settle for just any surgeon. If your neck and arms are important to you, look up those surgeries before deciding what it is you want changed.

All right this is like an alcoholic or a drug addict that they're addicts. If they're addicts you don't have the choice of eating or drinking or doing what you're addicted to because you will spiral out of control so some people can do it because they can do it there's no problems with that doing it if they have controller is not a problem for them but for addicts or people that have no control on their intake or how much they eat Yes you have to stop that immediately and not do it again.

Hey Nicole Please don't get down on yourself. People that have always been skinny indulge on vacations/cruises especially. But your routine is gone that you had for the first year and a half. You need to map out your new plans. Maybe try my fitness pal so you make yourself accountable. Have a protein shake to get your protein up and set your calorie limit. If you start getting over the limit, you are done. Also drinking your calories you know is the worst. I know our bodies try very hard to Tell us when we are screwing up. I'm 3 weeks out from getting my gallbladder removed and have gained 4 pounds (when I was only 2 pounds from my 1st goal) I actually didn't know why we weren't supposed to drink with our meals and I do have a sip with food all the time because I like a refreshed mouth. I've also never fully cut sugar out. So I 💯 can relate to your mental battle but as long as it's in small quantities you might be ok. But you're better off without it. You are correct when you say it's not treating yourself. It's more of a punishment. You can do it!! Don't get down but come up with a new routine the other one is back home. Xo

I am 5'2 and at my highest I weighed 293 lbs. Currently I am around 280. I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery on August 7th, 2024, and I am watching a lot of videos of people who have had bariatric surgery, and I am finding it helps me so much. Thank you for your videos so much. I know it can be scary to put yourself out there and be so open and honest, but I am so grateful. Also, more and more with watching these videos I understand why a psych evaluation is part of the approval process, so much of my eating has been emotional and related to my mood and my mental health, so be kind to yourself regarding your body dysmorphia. You are looking at yourself and even though the outside has changed that doesn't necessarily automatically change what you reach for to comfort you or why, which can be, like me, food. You are doing great!
