  • I am 5 months post-op following Gastric Bypass weight loss surgery and feeling great! I just hit a key milestone this morning - I am officially down 75 pounds! But there are some negatives as well, so let's discuss!

I've just started watching your journey from the beginning, can I say I thoroughly enjoy hearing your non-scale victories?! Those are the unexpected victories that need to be shared more often from folks who go through this journey. It's not all about the numbers on the scale. Thank you for that.

You’re doing so great Nicole! Your hair looks fine. I can’t tell that you’re losing any, besides after you stabilize, it’ll grow thicker again. It’s a fun problem to need new clothes, but don’t buy much. You’re just passing through the sizes. I have lost 15 pounds, but have to lose 15 more before the surgeon will schedule my gastric bypass. It’d be a lot easier if I didn’t get so hungry.

My surgery is next month I’m so scared but I know it’s for my health. What was your pre diet like?

My program's pre-op diet was a protein shake for breakfast with a piece of fruit, another shake and fruit for lunch, a high protein snack (like a yogurt) and then a serving of protein, veggie and small complex carb for dinner. It wasn't too terrible. I hope you are doing well!

@@nicoleislosingit I’m ok just not loosing weight as fast as I thought. Plus I’m regretting it I can’t eat food I’m still at the purée and very soft stage.

Congrats on the success!! I wonder, though, what your long term plan is for maintenance? I mean, you cant eat the same three meals for the rest of your life. Eventually you are going to binge eat something that you are wanting but depriving yourself of completely (which apparently is everything except pot roast, yogurt, almonds and sugar free popsicles). Its just not sustainable long term. Are you planning to ever incorporate any other foods? I feel like you really are enjoying your weight loss so far, but to be successful long term you have to eventually incorporate other foods into your diet, including other types of protein, some healthy carbs and occasional treats. What do you do if you go to some one elses home for dinner and they didnt make tacos or pot roast? lol

These are definitely things I am addressing in therapy. The surgery changes your anatomy, not your brain. And I had very disordered eating patterns prior to surgery. So we are working on techniques to avoid trading one eating disorder for another. It's baby steps for sure. We did have a potluck at work today and I ate chips and salsa and a fish taco. Haha - still a taco but I changed it up a bit! I'm trying my best, which is all I can do.
