A Couple of Drifters
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 ก.ค. 2020
We're Fiona (Ireland) and Jerry (U.S.A.). As travellers, we see places for what they are and what they aren't. That requires an honest look and we hope our videos show you that - the good, the bad and the downright odd.
True travel and exploration to us means hitchhiking and never booking anything - even accommodation. Still, we manage to see a lot and have a great time in the process, even on a budget of $15 USD each per day.
Our promise is to show you how different the world is from what you know at home and how remarkable those variations truly are.

Foreigners DON'T VISIT THIS RAJASTHAN SITE | Chittorgarh Fort Visual Tour (By Two Foreigners)
We really don't know why more foreign tourists don't visit Chittorgarh Fort. Our day trip there remains one of the highlights of our three and a half months in India! Rajasthan is full of spectacular sites but Chittorgarh Fort appears to be overlooked on most foreigner's itineraries.
Chittor Fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. Not only is it India's largest fort area-wise, but it is also Asia's largest fort by area! It encompasses 700 acres, set 180 m (590.6 ft) atop a hill overlooking the present day city of Chittorgarh.
Aside from its impressive size the fort is also historically noteworthy. Built in the 7th Century A.D. it holds great significance as part of the Mewar Dynasty and Rajput Kingdom. Chittor Fort has been sacked 3 times in the years 1303, 1535 and 1568. In each instance the practice of jauhar was carried out by the females (women and children) rather than face capture and abuse by the invaders. Their sacrifice continues to be commemorated today with the annual Jauhar Mela Festival held within the fort and the city of Chittorgarh.
As stated in the video this is a living fort, i.e. people still live within the confines of its walls. As such there are roads making it easy to drive from site to site within the complex. Walking is also an option...
We stayed in the city and got an early start walking all the way up to and around the fort. Keep in mind the circumference of the fort is 13 km (8.1 miles), with a maximum length of 5 km (3.1 miles). Don't forget you'll also be walking in and around the individual sites too. Should you choose to walk, be warned the site is vast. It is a LOT of walking and a very long day, but definitely worth it!

If I were the top leaders who make the decision of the company, I would give the workers at least one day off of the week. We are human being young or old; it is necessary for us to relax and rewind in order to be more productive. I mean the company would still hire more workers to process the production more faster. I don't know anything about this kind of work, but that is my thinking. You have the best video of explaining your audiences what is like of places you are. Thank you for sharing, I just subscribed.
Thank you for your lovely comment and for subscribing! We can't disagree with you - a day off for rest could indeed be a good thing for employees working long hours like this. We've always been amazed (and encouraged) by the percentage of employees who get the job done every day under these strenuous conditions.
New Mexico USA!! Haha soo sad!!
Anytime my cousins come out here from Chicago they get like super drunk really easily because they're used to having oxygen and we're not!
It's sad to think that people think that new Mexico isn't apart of the us (I live here)
I've been trying to find the "truth" about Mexico and how "dangerous" it is. I went to CDMX and absolutely loved it, never felt unsafe. I have a friend from Piedras Negras who has traveled all throughout Mexico. He said even the city of Guanajuato is unsafe?? I'm so torn. I want to go to Guanajuato, Guadalajara, and Puebla and I'm pretty sure I'd be fine. And here you are visiting Culiacan. I feel like overall if you just mind your own business and don't get involved in shady things, don't go down dark alleys at night and don't drive on the highways at night, you'll be fine? I'm so curious about Culiacan, Colima, and Acapulco. Part of me feels like it's how my mom freaks out here in the US if I tell her I'm going to Chicago or NYC, even though I've never had an issue in those places. On the other hand, I don't want to get cocky about it and get myself into an unsafe situation!
Hi Austin - sorry for the late response. Being aware of your surroundings - and not being too confident, as you say - is such a good approach. For Fiona and myself, this is something we learned growing up. For those like us, that awareness can either get dulled or put into overdrive while in a foreign environment. There are also those who handle the matter with a good balance and it sounds like you're one of them. It also sounds like you know that things can and sometimes do go wrong for some people and when that happens, it's never at a good time. We hope you get your chance to visit all the places you want to in Mexico. Let us know more about your travels there.
Wait!? I hear an Irish accent! Have you been able to find seasonal work that provides a temp work visa? My partner and I are interested in seasonal work in the US but haven’t found an option for him to get a visa. Any tips or info?
Hiya. I (Fiona) am from Dublin, born and bred there. However I also have dual citizenship so I'm not too sure about how to obtain a seasonal work visa for the U.S. I know a lot of folk from the Philippines work at Leader Creek but I don't know what kind of work visas they get or how they go about it. You could try reaching out to Leader Creek directly to see if they have some kind of sponsorship or a way that they facilitate obtaining a temporary work visa. I really hope you can find a way to get a visa as there are a tonne of great seasonal jobs throughout the States. If you can get a visa and are willing to work hard for a short stint of time, working in the seafood processing industry in Alaska is a brilliant way to make some good money fast! Keep me posted on how it goes. Keeping my fingers crossed for yourself and your partner on getting that temporary work visa.
I remember seeing yall at the restaurant Genaros restaurant. i have a good friend who mentioned this to me. He going on a 6 month contract and he owenes a business.
Genaro's is one of favorite restaurants in Gallup - when did you see us there? We return to that part of New Mexico this spring and are already looking forward to the food. Where is your friend going to be working, and do you think you'll be applying to Leader Creek for the 2025 season?
What is the average working hour, and from which hour overtime is calculated?
It's difficult to figure an average number of hours worked, but many 16-hour days with no days off should be expected. Overtime in anything after 8 hours a day/40-hours per week.
Hello, I want to work in fish processing. I am looking on Indeed and Coolworks, but I do not see any companies hiring. I really need to pay off some bills. Are companies not hiring yet. What is the best way to get attention? Thank you.
Hello, thank you for providing a lot of useful information and content. I have a question: How do I leave from the city of Soiana, Peru to Latina and go to Ecuador? What means of transportation did you use to reach the border with Ecuador?
Thank you! In the video we show viewers the means of transportation we took to the border of Ecuador. We thought it was a little difficult to find the exact spot where transportation to the border departs from so we even included a map to show viewers where to find the departing terminal.
Oh i wish you would have gotten it xmas style..
How much is the rent?. I never heard that?.
We do mention the cost of rent and even put it in text on the screen - you missed it. Here it is: (11:20) Keep in mind that this was the cost of our rent when we signed the lease in 2020. We don't live here anymore and the rent for this apartment has likely gone up.
How do most people sign up for fish processing jobs? I am on cool works and indeed and I do not see any jobs.
We suspect many people apply for fish processing jobs online directly through the companies which are hiring. Typically once folk have their foot in the door with a company, it becomes a "word of mouth" thing, i.e. they hear of other companies hiring. These may be sister companies of the company they are currently working for or simply just other processing plants anywhere in Alaska. If you don't see any jobs posted online at the moment it could be because this work tends to be seasonal. For example, Leader Creek begins their hiring process at the start of the new year, so they aren't accepting applications (or posting jobs) at this moment.
Sad it has to be explained that New Mexico is a state in the US. The education system has failed so many. I learned it was a US state 54 years ago. What happened since then?
Do you need any particular experience in the industry to get hired? Im really interested in contributing to this position. Are there any ways for me to increase the chances of securing this job?
No, you don't need experience in this industry to be considered for a processing job. A good, solid work history with a varied background can go a long way.
Thanks for visiting South India 🙏
We loved our time in Southern India. Trichy was definitely one of our favourite cities there. We got to see quite a bit of Southern India but we would return in a heartbeat to explore even more 😊😊.
It will take india about 2 decade to become little clean and become upper middle income country because india is just 2000 dollars GDP per capita if things become. Organised and clean it will be best country to explore history 🙂

No, you do not clock out to use the bathroom. You also do not clock out for breaks. The only time you clock out is for meal times.

Roasting Chile is the state scent.
You are correct. The state senate bill which gave New Mexico an official aroma was signed quite some time after we released our video. Roasting green chile is a solid [albeit obvious] choice, but in our own opinion the smell of piñon is better.
New Mexico State flag also has the same colors as Spain’s national flag
Please comeback the next year in March. If you like carnivals, you have to visit Cajamarca's carnival, the best of Peru.
Cajamarca's Carnival celebration is legendary! We planned to visit Cajamarca, then head to Chachapoyas to see Kuelap. Sadly, Kuelap was closed at the time for restoration work. Our plan was to go from Cajamarca to Celendín, then to Chachapoyas - this is meant to be a very scenic route. Because Kuelap was closed, we decided we'd leave Cajamarca [and Kuelap] for our next visit to Peru.

Yes, by some.
There is spanish speakers but theres also people who came from places like iraq ive met and they become fluent in english very fast and you wouldnt think they werent born here if you didnt know. So theres a low popualtion but its a very unique population in a lot of different ways. English is the main language. You run into english speakers more than any other. Its usa 😂
Of course I didn't know English when I went to first grade I was raised around grandmother's she never talked English
Awww, its just sad that you wouldn't be able to try all the varieties of potatoes we have, all with their unique texture and flavor. If you, sometime go back to Peru, you have to, really have to try some of the most amazing potatoes in the world. The huayro potato its perfect just boiled and served w egg and salt. The peruanita or the perricholi one, whom are variations of the yellow potato, traditionally used for causa, also can be used as fries, and im sure they are going to be the best you can have. The canchan its our favourites to garnish our dishes, and the huamantanga its so creamy that melts in your mouth side w some aji sauce. Greetings from a potato lover, who miss his country's potatoes so much to another.

Lew Wallace, 75th Governor of NM territory, 1st Governor of the state of NM, wrote Ben Hur. Get hash browns. Ask for Christmas. Red is tangy and usually mild. Green is scorchy.
Dang jolepenos some of them are as hot as the surface of the sun. Green chillies are better for flavor but lack heat and spicy burning feeling.

It’s the 3rd poorest state in the US. The Spanish were Europeans, not “Latinos”.
Latinos/Latinas is about the Spanish language being one of the romantic language that derives from Latin. Spanish is also a gendered language where the words change depending on if its a man or a woman. Therefore; they are men and woman who speak there dialect of Latin. Latin was the language of the ancients Mediterranean which included Spain. Its all full circle.

We loved Lima and we're very happy you enjoyed our video. Please share this video with family and friends - we hope they enjoy it as well.
I like the phrase it's not new and it's not Mexico.
Its new mexico because they were trolling mexico but new mexico alone is clearly supirior to old mexico in its entirety. We have the best mexicans and the best pepper enviorment. To me it makes zero sense how ford builds the mavrick in mexico when ford should be building the mavrick in new mexico. We are the supirior mexico. We have yet to attain even 1/10th of our true capabilities. New mexico is so great it is attached to texas like a conjoined twin. Semi retarded failed state but like i said, we have yet to attain even 1/10th of our true capabilities. One day new mexico will power texas colorado arizona and mexico that is how great new mexico is but for now that isnt the case we are like a neglected child from a crackfamily 😂😂😂😂 I look at our flag and i see the sun. The zia symbol. We are the brightest.
The “Land of Entrapment” caught me with its enchantment. I’ve been many places, and can live wherever I’d like. I live in New Mexico on purpose.
Idk why theyd call it the land of entrapment as a new mexican id lime to formally declare that award firmly belongs square in the laps of the californians and new yorkers 😂 I love california I wish it wasnt such a nightmare. Theres a whole town there with my name plastered all over it. Im going to try to convicne them to give me a free plot of land on a creek thats also got my name on it
What does the job actually entail ? I mean what is it that you actually do ? Do they serve salmon in the mess hall ? I hear Alaskan wild Salmon is the best in the world . Any other seasonal work that follows the Salmon season ? I live in Asia and might as well make it count. I really need a change of scenery as well. Do workers show up like a week early to get oriented and settled in ? Thank you.
What you do depends largely on the department you are assigned to. You can be in a department responsible for butchering/gutting the salmon, or in a department responsible for fileting the fish - I covered the different departments in a response to one of your comments. The exact task[s] an employee may end up doing has also been mentioned. There is good variety of tasks to perform and leads and supervisors are good at rotating employees so they don't end up doing the same thing for 16 hours. Yes, salmon is served every day in the mess hall. We've always been impressed by the variety and taste of the food at Leader Creek and the kitchen staff are the best. Many people follow the fish jobs from one to the next, working with different species at different times of the year throughout much of Alaska. We are exhausted after 5 or 6 weeks of work but are always in awe of our fellow Leader Creek employees who go directly to another processing plant to work some more, or hop on a boat and head out to sea to fish. Some employees are flown to the plant on or near June 15th - these employees usually have to wait a bit until the first salmon arrive into the plant and for the work to begin. By the time other employees arrive later, the work has already begun and they head to work right after a full day of rest/orientation. This season stared a little slower than others and I had over a full week of hanging out with people on campus before the salmon came in. Still, it was a good season and I got a lot of hours. --💲💲--
@@ACoupleofDrifters Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions , I appreciate it. sorry if I seem redundant , busy like hell as season changes , hard to focus. It may work out. I will apply if another gig doesn't come through ... I will surely mention you referred me. Any way to PM you ? Thanks

I think 70 percent of.new Mexico is over 5000 feet in elevation
Yes its high above florida. The northwest corner kinda starts creeping up to areas of the rocky mountains you can even see some of the mountains as colorado is right there literally in a bunch of them
Que bueno genial🎉
Bending at the waist slightly , like over a work surface would aggrevate old injury...I would like to see footage of the job in progress .
For the purpose of this video we couldn't film the inside of the plant and the various tasks/types of jobs involved - we signed a waiver saying we wouldn't. In the video we did our best to describe the various types of physical requirements for the jobs involved.
