Goose, just want to say it’s been awhile, and I hope you’re good man.
@@Wizzerman95 appreciate this a ton, more than I can express. Hope to be able to post again soon.
I'm a big 5150 fan and I really want to get the invective but I don't want to pay full 120 W head prices. How do you like the MH?
@@jackbootshamangaming4541 it's a good amp, but I also want to caution that the presence change compared to a 5150, as well as a lack of channel master, makes the Invective MH sound differently voiced to a 5150. The character is similar, but the voicing is a bit brighter.
@TheGooseChaseMusic thanks, not many have said such in reviews, so good to know
"black water park" by opeth. "Take me back to eden" by sleep token, is my second album to jam out to with no skips. both metal releases are great!
i think where we are is that modellers and tubes sound very similar BUT fuzz pedal plus tube amp vs fuzz pedal plus modellers sound wildly different. would love to see more of your vids showing that
i have a video on that! on the EQD Hizumitas
@@TheGooseChaseMusic yup i gotchu, i saw that one and commented before. that is one of only two videos like that on the entire youtube (tea & pedals covered it once) - i'm just hoping for more cause this fact is not widely discussed or realized just yet by the guitar community imo
@@nathanmachine- ahhh i see, thanks for watching! I've been on a hiatus but hopefully will get time to do more. Appreciate it!
@ you could dominate this topic! sooner or later ppl will realize that this is the last and best reason to use tube amps imho 🤘
I really want this but cant go back to Fat neck! 😂 extra 😊Thin U neck for life!
It’s an amazing instrument. Had one, sold it, got an Ibanez AZ prestige, had the worst time, got a Plini signature and can’t stop playing. Never giving up on strandberg again.
Finally beat BG3?! Congrats! I’m on 4th playthrough 🤣 heeeellpppp! Thanks for the compare as I’ve been looking into the HX stomp to get and also saw the cortex as well and was curious.
Did you have the DT in the input of the QC or the effects loop? I’m running a boss compressor to the DT whammy to the boss OC-5 into the QC
The big knob on the quad acts like an attenuator. It will change your sound. Leave at 100 and use the 2 output volume through the drop down menu
How did you male the connection? I want to capture amps on my helix with nano cortex
Fractal is king. For gigging professionals, there is really no better option
I swear you're one of the very few channels that showcased great sounding high gain amps on boss gt. I'm actually tempted to get one now.
Fractal's channels and (nearly) seamless channel switching allows a single patch to have up to 8 completely different full resolution amps, provided you only use at most two of them at a time. Can do similar with other types of effects. My only gripe is that detuner and pitch shifters are in the same *effect type" so you can't run a virtual capo or a pitch shifter while also having a detuner active (FM9). Can do so on AxeFx3 due to two pitch blocks. If you want to use some delay also, there is a hack to use the detuners in the plex delay block to make a short diffusive delay with simultaneous detune. But really wish fractal would consider detune effect to be in a different category than the more aggressive shifters to avoid this problem.
This guitar is sweet, cant seem to find it anywhere
FM9 ALL DAY
I personally like the HX Stomp the best. So much clarity. The EQ change was great. Made it fuller, but still kept the clarity. Makes me want to buy an HX Stomp. I have a Helix, but I've heard that for some reason the Stomp sounds better which sounds counter intuitive with less processing power. Do you find this to be true or should I just try to dig in more and dial in my Helix better?
Good news
I own both. Both are great. I use complex presets. The Fractal FM9 Turbo is more powerful in both DSP and configurability.
You need the master above 7 on the Jcm 800 in the Quad cortex, if you push the pre gain it gets dark and dull. And you Said qc was iver 10… Put master on 8 and gain on 5.5, you Will get a bright and punchy jcm.
How many amp can you play at once and blend in your chain? Trying to compare FM9 to QC.
york sounded more natural, less upper mid scratchy, I can see both being useful
This was helpful, thank you! I have a Hizumitas and a QC on the way.
I owned several of these and had similar experiences with them. (Dunu titan s, Beyer dt770, TRuthear Zero Red, Simgot ea500,etc) Now I have the hd560s and the hd6xx. (i tried the Shure 440 and I liked them!) As iems Im using the 7hz Salnotes Zero wich its great and Im waiting for de delivery of the Hexa, I tried the Zero Red but They were to bassy for me. Etymotic er2se also works good for monitor.
The Hexa sounds really great! I really like it! They both have a very close tuning... Salnotes Zero brings out the electric guitar frequencies more so it could be better as guitar monitor. Both are really great!
The HX amp tones are djent in a box. I much prefer the FM9 for if I were jamming or playing almost anything else but I use helix native a lot for recording heavier stuff because a lot of the time I don't have to do much to the tones I get out of it, it sits in the mix very well with minimal tweaking. I gotta say the drives in the helix kinda suck in my opinion, not gonna lie.
Why do you people have amps behind you when the unit works only with "laptop speakers" very frustrated how my Fm9 sounds through my tube amp...are you using an FRFR speaker or straight to the computer? I can't undertand how people gig with this thing live...
My amps are separate from the demo. If you're running an FM9 amp model through a tube power amp, you have to disable both the power amp and cab sim in the unit, and only feed the FM9 preamp into the FX Return of the amp. You can also run 4CM but that's a bit more. Either way, at that point, the FM9 is basically a pedalboard for your tube amp, but with the digital preamp instead of your tube preamp (you'll still be using the tube power amp of whatever your tube amp is)
I keep hearing everyone praise the quad cortex, but i'm not going to lie, so far I haven't been convinced it's any better than the Helix in terms of the sound you can get. I know some people prefer the UI which is fine, but i'm just relieved i've not watched one video that has left me feeling the urge to go out and drop money on the quad cortex and can keep loving my Helix.
Hi, Would it be possible to download this fm9 preset? Thank you!
Katanas have pretty damn close dynamics to a tube amp when dialed in right. I am also looking to invest in a blackstar. The ISF knob on the HT series is so cool!
Late to the show, but great video! What IR are you using to get that tone?
@@kelvindam3306 Ownhammer rockbox 2018 V30s!
@@TheGooseChaseMusic Thanks! Ill look into those
the dual rec on the quad cortex has its sweet spot with the master set to between 0 and 1 at most, anything over that goes into horrible sag and saturates like crazy. I spent a long time wondering why the quad cortex's dual rectifier sounded like absolute crap (by default it opens with the master at 3) until I discovered this.
I'm looking at the Hexa, Dunu Titan S, and Etymotic ER3XR as preliminary options for monitoring for their relative neutrality with slight bump in low end, which I'm inclined to think is best for my situation, but I'm not certain. I play a 7-string in drop A and sometimes pitch shift lower, playing heavy genres like Deathcore, Metalcore, etc. Also, I'm only playing for myself and not mixing for anyone else's ears, so it only really matters that it sounds good to me. A neutral response is accurate and great for practice, but when jamming, I'm not sure if a neutral response is still better to maintain tonal accuracy or if something with more low end is better to bring through the low tunings along with the tones of the backing tracks. I figure the neutral FR with slight bump in low end of these IEMs gives me a middle ground from where I can EQ for what I need. Am I thinking of and approaching this the right way or is there a better way to look at it?
The theory for actives…originally is to have a flat response so you can use EQ to mold any tone. All people heard was the flat response and just felt they were “sterile” so their lack of understanding killed their intent. I for one think it’s genius.
i almost bought a QC this week. but after seeing this vid i think im gonna keep my FM9
The FM9 is definitely just as awesome, better in some ways, but if you're considering the QC, it would be for the more convenient touch screen and much smaller size, or you have an amp collection you want to capture. Cheers!
Powerfull!! Fractal starts where the rest stops and here is the most Powerfull Floormodler of the Universe.. th-cam.com/video/kwGWjoJj1H8/w-d-xo.html
Daaaamn, how many helix variants does line6 have??? being the HX floor the only good one and worth having... and maybe the Stomp if you are willing to sacrifice half of the DSP power
To the hell fire 🔥
Forget both just get the best. Axefx ! FM8 just blows them both sorry truth hurts ! Still no1
One note - the QC does have hardware ground lifts like the FM9, just controlled via software. I also think you underplayed how difficult it is to tweak the FM3/9 on the screen compared to even the HX Stomp - that UI is just a nightmare, in terms of "stage usability". I don't recommend ever trying to change much on stage beyond globals - which is fine in the Fractals - but if you do find yourself wanting to add a block, the QC and HX stuff is truly infinitely ahead. (I have a Helix Floor, HX Stomp, Quad Cortex, and ToneX here, by the way, and have used Kemper and Fractal in the past)
excella demo thanks man!
Dude I bought an HX stomp Xl for a live gig in about a week and you literally saved my ass, I owe you a beer brother, Thanks!
@@joe_mox that's awesome to hear!
This is why i think the plug-ins are a ripp off. They should not charge more than 20$
I actually preferred the quad
Sounds pretty much like hm2 in a dirty channel on an amp!
I do like Fishman a lot (Voice 2 of the modern ceramic and the Merrow bridge voice 1 being the best imo) but I do prefer EMG's consistently myself. Random anecdote but I've called EMG a handful of times over the years and the service was incredible. Great vid! Thanks for the upload.
😆
I was hoping the Nameless 2.0 would be one of the first "amps" to be put on the QC with the 3.0.0 update, makes more sense than the Gojira.
We need a Stomp competitor from Fractal and Neural DSP.. smaller footprint and reduced DSP but more of a budget option
Is the pedal direct to line?
