      I could've just gotten a dud, lots of folks say they haven't had issues, so that's a good thing in my view.

    The noise thing is a hardware issue that affects only a few units - Contact N-DSP and they will fix that. My 2 units are silent on bootup now.

      Incidentally, I have one new unit and one second hand and they fixed the startup noise on both for free.

      @@alexwong7 I will look into that. Hopefully they'll make an exception despite their warranty saying otherwise.

      @@alexwong7I was in the same situation. The used one had an issue. I overpaid so much for it. They fixed it. Free shipping both ways. Said get in touch any time. I bought a new back up too.

    Hi Goose , about the boot noise I had the same issue . It is a HW fault. NSDP fixed that on warranty.

    Hi Goose! Came across your channel a few days ago, been loving your amp comparison videos (FM9 vs QC). Right now I can tell you are leaning towards the FM9, is that correct? While I love my HX Stomp it is getting a bit too limited for me and I've been considering those two units. Quad Cortex has the ease of use, format and the touchscreen, and also the price, while the FM9 has everything else.
    Four years ago I had an Axe FX II XL and while I loved it, the amount of options it had was really scary and I ended up tweaking more than playing. Sold it afterwards for my HX Stomp. I recently discovered that the Axe FX III gen family has a mode that emulates the exact number of knobs and options the piece of gear has in real life, which was honestly what I was hoping for on the my old Axe.
    Do you find yourself going over the more advanced options on your presets?

    • @TheGooseChaseMusic
      @TheGooseChaseMusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For my own personal patches outside these comparisons, I definitely dive into the advanced settings. In the comparisons, I stick with the basic controls.
      Personally I like tweaking, but if option paralysis is an issue, then definitely Quad Cortex. The amp models have only necessary dials, less to fiddle with than either Helix or Fractal amp models.

    I read in a forum that you should power on the Qc with no output connected, then let it boot up and plug in your monitors. Apparently this is a workaround to eliminating the noise. Not convenient but apparently works.

    • @TheGooseChaseMusic
      @TheGooseChaseMusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also depending on the outlet, because the QC doesn't have a grounded power supply, it might just cause noise in general if it's not connected to something else with a ground.

  • @rguitar78
    @rguitar78 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You need to use a USB cable to ground that out, I have a release edition QC and with that piece it is silent AF with every power-up/use of the box.

    • @TheGooseChaseMusic
      @TheGooseChaseMusic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in this video, it is connected with the USB when I do this.
      A few of the batches from early on had this issue, not all of them but it's not an uncommon issue.

  • @aaronthomas7790
    @aaronthomas7790 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The power supply on the QC is the biggest issue I think. Loads of reports with noise and hum. Fractal, helix, TMP all get that right with standard IEC that's grounded. It's a bummer because I love it otherwise but they'd have to update the hardware to fix it.

    • @TheGooseChaseMusic
      @TheGooseChaseMusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My unit definitely has noisses when not grounded too.

    • @bernie_smith
      @bernie_smith 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just get a decent power supply like a CIOKS. I personally much prefer the unit not having an IEC power input as it is much easier to integrate on a board with other devices and have just one high power input to the board. Haven't run in to any of your bugs, but there have been a few, my main bug is the guitar impedence adjust needs moving and resetting most times I switch it on. I do love this unit though. Just works for my particular requirements and sounds superb. Regularly get compliments for my tone from engineers, other guitarists and audience.

    • @aaronthomas7790
      @aaronthomas7790 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bernie_smith Did the cioks seem to really make a difference? I didn't want to buy another expensive power supply last time I tried and it seemed like mixed reports of it fixing hum and noise.

      @@aaronthomas7790 Hi, I have zero noise on my QC using a CIOKS DC7. It is important to have the device connected to something using an XLR out etc, but that would be usual anyway. The sound is pristine at home and when gigging. I do use a power conditioner too when playing live, but don't think that makes any difference re QC noise. I use the conditioner primarily to protect my gear in unfamiliar environments. I am a QC user from the first preorder batch and bought a CIOKS DC7 when putting my new board together following receipt of the QC. No power related noise issues of any kind. I use a Temple Audio board and use their side modules for power, XLRs and TRSs. All works perfectly. I have used this set up in big venues with top pro PAs, D&B systems etc, and the engineers love my super clean stereo signal. Hope this helps. Kind regards.

      Absolute bingo! I got the 2nd batch from SW. For over 2 years, Neural admitted it was an issue AND send out emails asking for addresses of where to ship a new PS once a new one was sourced. Saw one more email after than and over a year not another peep about it. Totally unacceptable so I sold the unit.

    What still bugs me is that the noise floor of the QC is that much higher than the competitors. I had the Helix, QC and have the FM9 now. In your last video you could here the noise when turning down your volume pot, the noise got louder than the guitar, even with noise gate! The FM9 and Helix are dead quiet.

    I just got a QC and I have also encountered a few bugs that I've tried to get help with, and I've been blown away by the number of apologists and other users who just tell me to basically ignore the issues with the device. I have a kemper, HX stomp, and my bandmate has a FM9, and none of them have the bizare quirks or a fanbase that gaslights other users like the QC. I like the device well enough, but NDSP and the QC community need to tone down the Apple superioutiy vibes while they are still so new to the game. Great UI is great, but doesn't make up for broken functions and pie-in-the-face issues, such as audio dropout on scene changes (which is still present in the current FW). I am optimistic that the unit will get better over time, but not as quickly as it could if NDSP addressed the issues brought up by average users rather than burying them.

      I’m not an apologist or trying to gaslight you…but I’ve never seen any other user say they had audio dropouts in scene mode. Changing sounds without dropout is literally what Scene Mode is for.

    • @dadbodmetalgod
      @dadbodmetalgod 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Check my page for the video example that I sent NDSP, you can download the patch and replicate it your self, called Scene Issues. I received an official response from NDSP that yes, there is drop out and that I shouldn't care about it. Baffling. The only way around it is one amp on each line and volume fade between them for almost-dropout free operation, but now you can use the multiple signal paths. I have 3/4 modeling units and can confirm that scene mode is dropout-free on all of them but the QC, and NDSP agrees. I'm going to post a video of the whole exchange because its bananas. @@revjeffg

      Not even an owner and you're Stanning like this? How would you possibly know what they will and won't do? Do you work at Nerual? Here was the response from Neural regarding audio dropout that ALL QC units have, which they claim it has gapless switching-
      Thanks for reaching out.
      This isn't a bug. This is how we have handled switching between amp blocks and amp captures via scenes for several CorOS versions. We implemented a split-second crossfade to avoid noises when switching between different amp models. If we didn't add that crossfade, you would hear a loud noise when switching between the two amps.
      Please let us know if you have any other questions.
      Best regards,
      Neural DSP Support Team
      Does that sound like a company standing behind its product with "gapless scene switching"? "We saved you from one problem by creating a different one because a real fix would be super hard bro. Nothing to see here" They still haven't fixed this but keep churning out new plugins, because fixing hard problems doesn't make money. Considering that ALL other modelers have this feature and that you haven't used a QC or NDSP plugin, I'd suggest saving your cheerleading for a product you can back up with personal experience rather than happy thoughts. I really want to like this product, but the fanboyism (as evidence by your comment) is so thick that its hard to have a real discussion around the issues with comments like this @MikeR782

    with the fm9 out there's absolutely no reason for anyone to get this piece of junk and deal with all this neural nonsense. even if you think you can get good tones with the capture thingy its a pretty safe bet that if the FAS ecosystem has the amp you need or something close to it you can get the same (or even better) tone with that...

    • @TheGooseChaseMusic
      @TheGooseChaseMusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Personally I think there's space for both. I love my FM9, but some folks like how the models sound more in the QC than FM9, and vice versa as well. It's all preference imho.
