Just noting, my signal chain will not be 100% like yours (guitars, IRs, preferred settings, etc.) I think the mids would be the most affected by these differences, so definitely give or take a db or so in that area to taste!
Stomp version was better from the outset. Zero flub in the low end. I didnt find the mids and highs to be much different at all. But both before and after the EQ changes i preferred the Helix model....
You can also use IR with tube poweramp eq curve on it, it does the same thing with frequencies, i would suggest Ownhammer IR-s made with tube poweramp, it cuts that 800-ish area and boosts presence and low mid grind
Totally agree that Line6 H series stands out from other major modelers because of its equalization. To my ear, Line6 has a flatter sound across all frequencies. I thought I needed to adjust the equalizer a bit differently, but your approach convinced me. Thank you!
They're one of my biggest influences and were SO good when I saw em live. I actually learned that riff for videos around this time so it's a bit sloppy tho lol
I'll rewatch it tomorrow when power is out, will have some time to kill so youtube on the phone and my commuter head set, maybe not the absolute best audio quality headset, but it does give better conditions for comparing stuff.
Really interesting video! Curious to see how this would compare between other amp models like the Matchless for edge of breakup and clean kind of tones!
I'm definetely gonna try that next time I record guitars with my HX Stomp. But can you apply this EQ to any of the amplifier models on the Stomp? Also will it work if I use the stock IRs? Sweet FGN and greetings from Lotasticland 🎸🤘
Not currently, but I do want to revisit the GT-1000 at some point in a more comprehensive video down the line. Maybe I'll include a bit of this in that!

Love the Unlucky Morpheus riffs man! you rock!
Thanks! one of my favorites.
Great video. Thanks man. I've been really happy with the Helix.
excella demo thanks man!
Awesome video! I love the comparisons you make between the different modelers. Can you also attempt to match the Quad Cortex with the FM9/Axe Fx3?
Thanks! I could look into it!
Great comparison! Which specific IR are you using for this test?
York Audio Bogner 412, iirc
@@TheGooseChaseMusic Thanks!
That atb collapse riff maaan ❤

I couldn't tell them apart on speakers, should probably used headphones for this comparison.
I had to do SO much double checking between headphones and other monitors.

Nice hat Goose! Per usual loved the vid!
Appreciate this 🙏
Gorgeous 7 string my man!!
It's become my favorite as of late.
Nice vid man! I guess you could potentially do this with other units, like making the hx stomp sound the fm9 ect...?
I could look into it! Though the FM9 and QC sound even closer than the Helix does to the QC. Maybe a similar EQ with 1db or less bass.
@@TheGooseChaseMusic Would definitely be an interest series idea haha
i like this video, cause mine is Pod Go😅
Really interesting video! Curious to see how this would compare between other amp models like the Matchless for edge of breakup and clean kind of tones!
Honestly I haven't dived into clean tones really, I typically just run a simple low gain marshall amp model haha. I should definitely look into them!
@@TheGooseChaseMusic I'd love to see a video on that, to see if the EQ move would kinda still apply! You got a new sub!
nice finally doesen't sound so boxy anymore
Glad it helped out!
Why not use the parametric eq so each preset can be adjusted differently.
You can totally do this. I just chose to use the Global because of the visual, and because it doesn't take up a block in the preset.
I'm definetely gonna try that next time I record guitars with my HX Stomp. But can you apply this EQ to any of the amplifier models on the Stomp? Also will it work if I use the stock IRs? Sweet FGN and greetings from Lotasticland 🎸🤘
It's a Global EQ, so it applies to your output, no matter what amp is in your chain.
Bro! This is fire! 🔥 any plans to do a similar video with the boss gt 1000?
Not currently, but I do want to revisit the GT-1000 at some point in a more comprehensive video down the line. Maybe I'll include a bit of this in that!
I will try this, thanks!
Hope it helps!
Are you high cutting the IR on the HX stomp? or leaving it as is?
Leaving it as is, nothing in the IR block was touched other than loading the IR. The global EQ handles the rest.
@@TheGooseChaseMusic thanks bro
Sry if I might have missed it in the other videos, but what IR are you actually using here in the Helix?
York Audio Bogner 412, Mix 3
@@TheGooseChaseMusic thanks man
Subbed!
Tried it and YMMV depending on amp and IRs. In mix more mids have more sense.
Could it be applied for a clean tone?
I don't mess around with clean tones enough but I might dive into that in the future.
Tried a Mooer GE300?
I have not, I would like to try one!
