could be an idea to try hooking the medusa up via the FX loop of those modellers, and then blending that in parallel in front of a more saturated amp tone you might get a more 'manageable' 😄brutal tone that way there are ways otherwise of replicating the grind with EQ within the modellers cool video otherwise, always great to see Daniel's pedals getting showcased
@@Straightedge63 depending on what modeller you have, just hook up a pedal into the FX loop, and then see about having it 'in parallel' with the rest of the signal on the Fractal i know how to do it, but not sure on other modellers and how to set that up as parallel etc
@@Straightedge63 i use a freQout and a TC Flashback 2 in front of the FM3, works fine, but it's quite a specific use case scenario i think boost/Overdrive/Distortion pedals can be a bit difficult, as they usually work best by boosting level, and overloading/saturating the front end of an amp it's probably not the best idea to overload/boost the input on digital modellers, which is perhaps why it doesn't take pedals as well as you might expect into a tube amp it might be a case of tweaking levels/pad setting, but for those same reasons i prefer using boosts/drives within the FM3 as needed, and any extra pedals will usually be delay or verb or a speciality sort of pedal like the freqout
Super cool video! Really liked the response of the Katana and the QC sounded gnarly as well (in a good way). The difference in response is crazy: I liked the base-tone of the HX a lot but found it sounding flat with the Medusa, then again the QC sounded meh on its own (I mean clean-ish 5150 is not the greatest sound in the world to begin with 😅) but pretty cool when stacked! It’s something that translates somewhat to real amps as well: chimney, sparkling cleans can sound horrible with distortions and a bland sounding one is usually a great pedal platform 😊 Keep up the good work 🔥
The QC was actually the only one that clipped my input a few times haha, I had to rerecord because the Medusa pushed the db much higher on it than any other unit. Very interesting indeed. Also the Medusa is a must-keep in my collection now :)
With heavily saturated tones I've noticed the input stages of whatever circuit you run into matters most. Big bright cap across volume? NASTY. Big input cap? CHONK. Small input cap? TIGHT. I'd love to see a comparison of the Invective vs the Line6 model with similar settings, considering it's one of the newest models they put out.
I will eventually get the bigger Invective 120, the power section settings of the MH differ from the Line6 model too much to have a setting-matched comparison, unfortunately. Input staging is super interesting regardless, I wish I had the engineering know-how about it.

@paulbradshawguitar I have fm3 but for some reason, it never seems to take external pedals very well

Love my Medusa brother, Great vid!

Agree here: a lot of truth to these statements!
ive never had any luck putting effect pedals in front of the fm3...any tips?
Katana sounded great, wasn't as keen on the congested low end of Fractal or QC.
I agree, the Katana is a standout here, which is good because the HM2 is a Boss thing afterall haha.
Check out Dome's channel for loads of hm2 demos.
ah yes, chainsaw content...
Never enough chainsaw content.
2/10 for pronunciation! LOL...fun vid! I absolutely love my medusa.
It's so good, a lot easier than I expected to get that tone with some tightness.
