Great comparison! A Helix user thinking about converting to QC or Fractal here, so very interested in these kind of videos. Actually preferred the bit more agressive Soldano model of Helix.
@@TheGooseChaseMusic Just wondered because I love the plug-in and had a QC right when it came out and got rid of it because it wasn’t ready. Now it’s had a bunch of updates and an editor. Still no porting for plugins after that was promised years ago. All the failed promises put me off the unit.
I preferred Helix by a wide margin - Neural sounded a bit bloated to me. Having owned a Soldano Hot Rod 50 and played through a real SLO, I think the Helix sounds much closer.
@@TheGooseChaseMusic In lots of comparisons between Neural and other devices (modelers, real amps, etc), it seems like a lot of Neural models tend to have a bigger lower mid, a little less gain, and a slightly rounded off top end. Pete Thorn and Rabea mentioned similar findings in their comparisons of things like SLO plugin to amp, etc. IME the Helix modeling is actually much more accurate than people give it credit for. If anything, it's a bit warts-and-all and people aren't used to that in modeling. I think the stock cabs didn't help people's opinion of L6 modeling, either - the stock cabs frankly didn't sound great for a long time and still don't quite compete for me compared to great IRs from the likes of York Audio, etc. Neural gets the cabinets right, but Helix is still a force to be reckoned with when it comes to amp models. Given a selection of great IRs, I'll take Helix any day

Glad it was helpful!
How does the QC Soldano sound compared to the plug-in? I love the plug-in. I assume they are pretty close.
I plan to do this comparison soon! Stay tuned :D

There's definitely some odd character in the low mids for the Neural stock model.
