Please make a track from scratch to follow your workflow properly! It seems your skills and ideas are very handy and powerful. But it's kind of hard to follow you along. But anyway man, thx for sharing your knowledge!
I've been away from the Rhythm for a bit, but will see if I can give it another shot soon
The Pluto was my first toe dip into eurorack. I eventually took the plunge, though I'm aware it's not for everyone and is a big commitment. The Pluto remains the heart of my setup though, and will probably as long as I have a system. It's well thought out enough to stand on it's own, but the 5 moon outputs and how they can be changed in relation to each other is a powerful tool. All the best parts of eurorack, in a battery powered and super portable stand alone setup with some lush fx; what's not to love. Enjoy!
Thanks! Yeah, I'm really enjoying it so far. A very fun box that works well with the Deluge. Very scared of the modular rabbit hole though. Ha
Great video. I too am in a purge mood. Where did you do your selling and trading?
Thanks! I find these days most of my deals are made on Facebook Marketplace or through local dedicated gear groups on Facebook. Though still Kijiji on occasion too. Best of luck!
I only buy....NEVER sell gear. All because we had a CS80 from new and sold it stupid cheap end 80's.....Since then I decided to NEVER sell a piece of gear again.
I'm not sure I have the space for that policy. Ha. I try to hang on to the stuff I know I would have a hard time replacing for a reasonable price, but the rest has to earn its place
Check out the Elektron Model:Cycles groovebox! It's so easy to use that even I can use it! I got mine cheap for about $200 and couldn't be happier with how much of a powerhouse it is! Very versatile too. It can do anything from ambient drones to complex IDM beats. I've read that it's a great introduction to the Elektron workflow but the menu is too shallow for me to believe that. The Model:Cycles is one of the easiest grooveboxes I've ever used and I started with the MC 303 in 1998. Bad example as that particular groovebox is a pain to sequence compared to the Cycles, but it was the first to be marketed as a groovebox so that's why I mentioned it. I've had my hands on a few of these things over the years to say the least so I feel experienced enough to make this assessment of the Cycles. It has its limits but if you're thinking about owning something from Elektron because you've heard all the good things but you want to avoid the one bad thing, the workflow, the Model:Cycles has you covered.
Thanks! I've been curious about the Cycles and will keep my eye out for a good deal
@@BayMud I actually have one that I want to sell. I bought it used summer 2024. It's a really cool bit of gear. I even bought an Oversynth overlay for it. I'll definitely talk to you about a deal on the cycles if you are interested. I also have an SP 404 mk2 that I'm looking to sell. Bought that one January 2024. I've just come to the realization that groove boxes aren't my thing.
Phil aka the enabler
The one and only!
Great video, always interesting to see the journey others are on 🙌
Thanks! Yeah, it's so subjective and all our workflows are different, so hopefully this is interesting for other gear enthusiasts. Ha
I’m surprised how many happy accidents and bangers I’ve made on my rhythm.
It's such a fun machine
Nothing quite like a good gear purge 😂 Happy new year man!
Thanks! You too
Wow, that CZ-101 looks MINT
Been sitting in the box for years apparently. Happy to give it a loving home. Ha
Those lights are so special
Something so inspiring about lights
How many patches it allows to be saved? Is it a wavetable synth?
I no longer have the Blofeld, as I didn't like the interface, but it combined virtual analog, wavetable and FM synthesis. I don't recall how any presets it had
Shoppää!
🥳
Cool!!
We'll see if they make it to the next gig!
;)
😎
Squirrel on meth, nerd talk.
Oooo just got a deluge and the algo send this my way, nice
Excellent! Welcome to the Deluge club. More to come, for sure, as there are some great features coming as part of the community firmware
Damm poor delugeost its wood ears 😢
I still have them, just wanted to try some sleeker minimal sides for a while
Thank you for this tip. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I've always wondered how to access gates 3 & 4, and am glad that you're out here sharing knowledge. ✌️
To be fair, I only learned that very recently. It's a never-ending journey!
you are quite hard to follow
Anything you'd suggest to make it easier for you to follow?
Your naked deluge is unsettling.
Ha! I keep forgetting I did that. I'll probably go back eventually
@@BayMud I still rock the wood panels with an overlay. Looks like a completely different box lol
Nice. My wood panels are a bit beat up, but I'll probably out them back on at some point. Just couldn't resist the slim ones when I got a 3D printer
Hah. I was literally about to post a similar comment, then I saw yours and deleted mine.
I should have put a warning before the video. Ha
Interesting Sounds you're getting out of that little Box! .... I like the Clock divider function!!
Thanks! Yeah, it's a fun box with some unique capabilities
Nice presentation! So funny we both got Plutos at the same time. haha.
Ha. Thanks! Yeah there must be something in the water
Thanks for the top tips! Tiptop
Glad they were helpful! More to come
Interesting little machine.. but for the price!
Yeah, the exchange rate makes it pretty tough to swallow up here, but I got this one second hand for a good price. Wait until you see what it can do when combined with a guitar in the audio input though!
@@BayMud OK Second hand is good!! .. The Audio input should yield interesting results.. Just seen a few other videos using Pluto with Audio input ... I assume you still have your Deluge??
Oh yeah, Deluge is still the main piece in my setup. Works well with the Pluto so far. The Pluto can listen to notes played via the guitar into the audio input and adjust its scale. Super fun
I would like to second some other comments here… would love to see more hands on video’s on the CR. I have one and always end up creating songs on it, but don’t use it as often as I would like. I’m a guitar player and focus on that, so I usually don’t have the time to figure out other gear. So some vids would be helpful. This certainly retriggered my interest! Thanks for posting. Take care
I'll try to make some time to dive back in. Got distracted by other gear! I come from guitar too and am always looking for ways to bring those worlds together
Whau. Somone actually knows other buttons besides filter cut-off!
It's always tempting to reach for that knob, but one must sometimes resist! Ha
How about pairing this with the new Polyend Synth? Is this a perfect budget combo as a groove set?
I'm curious about the Polyend, but not enough to buy one, as I mostly use the Deluge. We'll see if I get to try one at some point though
Like you, I have had my CMS for years. I pulled it out a few months ago and had a blast with it. I used to believe it was fairly limited in what it was capable of but it turned out the limitation was ME! As my synth knowledge has increased my ability to bring more sounds out of it has grown. Combined with the great Circuit sequencer there’s a lot here. It does benefit from some effects though. Thanks for the reminder, that was fun!
Yeah, it's quite a nice machine in the end, just took me a while to gel with it. I recall at the time of release it seemed a bit strange, as folks were expecting an upgrade to the OG Circuit, so the Mono Station confused some people (as it is a bit weird), but I'm glad I still have mine
I asl didn't want to like the OP-Z hahah, but I randomly decided to try one out when I saw one pop up on Fbook marketplace for goo price, and now I love it!! Alongside the Dirthywave M9, I bring it with me pretty much everywhere; I'm also unhappy with the build quality. Mine is starting to bend in the middle. I just try to ignore it, but the reality is I'll probably end up getting something else sometime soon. I[m also having an issue with some of the rotating spheres (whatever they're called). They keep popping up and out of place, very annoying.
Yeah, it's a fun, addictive device let down by build issues. Mine isn't too bad yet, but it makes me worry. Would love to try a M8 though
I actually just checked out your page now for the first time, yesterday I just saw your OP-Z short. You're making me miss my Deluge lol. That's my biggest "regret sale". Should've kept it!
@@lnknmusic Thanks for taking the time! Yeah, a lot of gear comes and goes in my rig, but the Deluge is a constant and just keeps getting better with the community firmware. The good thing is they are still easy enough to get a hold of (and now have distribution in actual stores, though that makes it more expensive)
So cool!
Thanks!
always appreciate some fresh CMS content. down for more if you're so inclined
Thanks! It's a curiously under-appreciated device, for sure
Yay! Love these
@@brutallyremastered4255 glad to hear it! More to come
Great tip 👍🏼
@deanlopez1978 thanks! glad it was helpful
Man I would love to learn how to play like you. Any TH-cam you would suggest for a beginner to learn this style?
I appreciate the kind words! My journey has been a bit weird, as I came from more folky guitar based music (Dog Is Blue) and have just sort of stumbled my way around the electronic stuff. I'd say just use what gear speaks to you (maybe find some tutorials on that specific equipment to help get familiar with it), then it's just a lot of trial and error and practice
You don’t need to open it up. Just use deoxit over the buttons and let dry. Worked a charm for me.
I just tried that, but curious how long it will last, as other videos show the unit disassembled and reveal there's no way for the Deoxit to actually penetrate below the buttons. Glad it has worked for you though! Gives me hope
@ yup really worked for me. Just be sure to press the buttons many times so it goes deep under them. Love your content btw!
@@TheNamrebug Hey Thanks! I appreciate that. Also your success with the OP-Z fix gives me hope, as I really do enjoy using it otherwise
late to the party. found your vid. easily explained & understood. cheers pal. jam on it.
Glad to hear it! Welcome to the party
I... need to get out my Delly more.
Do it! Especially with all the improvements from the community firmware (more on that to come)
That arp Rhythm turned out amazing! Super creative way of getting some interesting rhythms with a mono synth.
@ChromaticFarmer7 thanks! The arp additions to the community firmware really help with fun variety
I need to spend some time and go back to get some knowledge from your videos on the Deluge and dust mine off. Nicely done. Thank you!
Thanks! It's a lot to remember, for sure, but keeps getting better and better thanks to the community firmware
You are SO GOOD on that deluge thinger.
Thanks! Lots of practice. Ha
Really cool jam ! I notice you adding fx on the deluge. Is audio going from casio stereo out into deluge ?
Thanks! The CZ is mono out only unfortunately, but yeah, it's going through the Deluge, so I could add effects and resample
this is working out nicely.
Thanks! Looking forward to exploring more
Yet another suggestion but what I would really like to see is splitting the keyboard layout between two instruments (would be really cool to play a synth with the right hands and drums with the left [any ideas or a workaround?]) and layering synths to play simultaneously (workarounds?). Thanks for your video!
You should drop by the Discord or Girhub and make suggestions there, as I doubt the devs check here. That said, so far the only way I know of to do the first one would be with a MIDI controller (either set the Deluge to play one thing while the controller is assigned to another, or get a controller with keys and pads and assign them accordingly). Same idea for two synths at once---learn them to the same controller. There may be other work arounds, but personally I haven't needed/wanted to do either one, so I haven't really looked into it. Folks on the Discord may be more helpful though
@@BayMud thanks for the reply! Yeah tbh I feel like suggestion parts of forums are generally overcrowded and dreaded by the devs so that's why I'm looking for workarounds in other sources. :D
You'd be surprised! The Discord is one of my favourite parts of owning a Deluge. Also so many knowledgeable people in terms of workarounds too
@@BayMud thanks for the tip. Will check it out.
So underated synth… i think the Polysix sound warmer than the Juno. Really Lovely synth ! I have a Poly800 but i would love to find a Polysix at a sensible price someday 😅
It really is a lovely machine! I got lucky getting mine years ago and have been hanging on ever since
It doesn’t have any built in effects does it?
It does have an analog effect section that uses bucket brigade chips where you can choose from chorus, phaser or a very famous and lush ensemble effect
Pffff casse couille
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think I've had two crashes in over six years. the OLED vs 7-seg thing..... both of mine have the OLED now, & it did make a difference to the speed with which I could find things, but it is definitely not essential. all the same functionality is there, whether it's in proper writing or red crayola... 😂 a magnificent machine which was fully-formed from the get-go, & just gets better with each solid iteration of the open-source versions. the way synthstrom run their business & treat their customers is exemplary, & should be the standard by which communication & support from other manufacturers is judged. yeah, torso, I mean you.
Yeah, it's a great unit with an excellent team/creators and just keeps getting better!
Love my Mininova! Connected to a Strymon Big Sky or Blue Sky it gets so darn versatile!
Glad you like yours. Sounds like a good combo
I was in a pinch and sold my Deluge a year or so ago- always regretted it! Loved how far you could push it.
It's definitely a powerful/unique machine. Hope you're out of the pinch!
