Most EXTREME 1978 suzuki gs1000 chopper bobber EVER built
I built this 1978 Suzuki gs1000 chopper about 12 years ago. Second bike I ever built. Finally got around to getting her on my channel. Not much original on this one. 2 into 1 4" exhaust on each side. Custom built swingarm/airtank to fit that super wide 300mm tire that is stretched 12". Air shocks on the rear in the middle. Air suspension gives the rear about 8 inches of travel. She rides like you're floating on air. Literally. Yamaha warrior gas tank. Harley brakes, controls, and custom harley wide glide front end. 1 1/2" custom bars. Harley 21"x 3.5" front wheel. Custom dual k&n air intake system. The engine and carbs are stock from 1978 just jetted a little differently. Runnig an extended front sprocket that is supported by an end bearing support.

WELDING CART OR SWING ARM????

Rather then a welding cart... I came up with this welding swing arm. It allows me to weld anywhere in my shop without having to roll a cart around. Also no more tripping over cords!! Wouldn't change a thing!

I built it outta exhaust tubing
What's the difference between a winch/hoist?
Simple answer is a winch is usually rated to pull horizontally usually 12 volt DC for mounting to a vehicle of some sort. A hoist is usually rated for lifting vertically and usually 120 volt AC or higher.
Hi, what the dimensions of the platform?
9 foot x 3 foot
Slick idea
thanks frank
You still building them man
I am. Just haven’t been posting cause I hate the editing and videoing process. It’s super stressful and takes away from the vision of what I wanna do. I am filming everything. It’s just another step that I don’t enjoy. But I’m working on it. Just being honest. Tough to balance all this. Thank you though. Wish this was easier.

Im humbled by your craftsmanship bro. Im a pretty creative guy but i keep coming back to this video and each time im inspired to put attention into another part of my build. I hope you don't mind me utilizing some of your designs. And thank you very much for the indepth video
That’s great! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate that! Good luck on all your builds and thank you! Use whatever you’d like!
@@164ChopShop awesome! My more recent experience in a machine shop will aid me in getting creative and also saving cost. It will be my first jocky shift and my first hardtail. A 9 inch stretch drop seat kz650. But I could talk about it all day 😂. Thanks again
Heck of a build! I've been wanting to make a drop seat bobber for 15 years and I was just given a free kawasaki csr650 so looks like it's time I build one
Thanks and good luck with the build.
Great Idea
Well crap. Amaze.
That sum btch is BAD
Yes, I know how fractions work, but having the sizes in millimetres makes it so much easier in my head... 5/16 next to 21/64... why not call it 20/64? Keep the divisor the same and it would make things so much more intuitive.
How tall are the bars? Brand? Thanks
No brand. Custom bent I believe 14”
Thanks
Love your bike!!!
Thank you!!!

yep
Where do we buy one of those does anyone make these
They’re not available for sale right now, but we are taking pre-orders on www.thetoolswing.com. We will notify you as soon as they are up for sale.
Do you sale your builds
Yeah. I usually post a video on TH-cam so people can see what they look like while someone is riding them and hear what they sound like. I always keep my favorites until another favorite comes along. Lol
Hey there. Can u re-upload the original video without the cut?
great
How can I get one of these?
Have you found a company to fabricate these?
Yo would you be willing to make and sell one of those 2 to 1 Intake manifolds?
I still haven’t seen a bike on this channel I haven’t fallen for. Your bikes kick ass bro!
Thanks man! That kinda statement makes my day!!!!! Really appreciate that!!!
How did you keep the shocks on the yamaha 650..about to do a bobber build on one dont wanna go rigid want to save my back and spleen
lots of fab work and some 10" shocks. really didn't ride much better than a hardtail... to tell the truth.
Roger Thanks@@164ChopShop
awesome bike. I would love to build mine that way. Rear fender and wheels look like.... fatboy? Nice
Yep fatboy rear wheel. original heritage rear fender. Thank you!!
Perfection!! Can you get a little more detailed? i.e. the rail against the wall; what is the design, the lock mechanism etc... Like everyone else has exclaimed about your build, this is absolutely the best I have seen. Your HIRED!!!! :)
The track is made of 5 pieces of flat stock. It's the front plate with the holes for the safety latch with two other 6" flats welded to back side, the whole length, that are sandwiched between 5 studs in the wall. One stud in the middle and two on each side then bolted together all in one sandwich. I used a stud to space them when i welded those on. Then the two other straps that you see are welded to the 6" pieces going the whole length and are there for the bearings of the train to run in. Those are just screwed to the studs with small cabinet screws and they aren't really holding any weight. They are spaced back from the back side of the front plate to the size of my rollers because you need a track that will hold both directions. The top rollers will be pushing out and the lower rollers will be pushing back into the wall as it goes up and down. There are also rollers that hold the train from binding left and right that run against the sides of the front plate (upper and lower, both sides). If you don't have a safety latch this track really doesn't have to hold any weight it just has to act as a track and could be made more simple. As soon as you latch the elevator into the track it instantly has to hold all of the weight of the elevator and whatever you have on it. Kinda tough to describe. Hope this doesn't confuse the situation.
latch mechinism video th-cam.com/video/82oSWZLsv8E/w-d-xo.html
Yes🤘🤘🤘
Hello Rick. This is just a thank you. I designed a 6' X 14' lift and I needed a starting place to design a safety latch system. Mine requires 6 pins that work together. My cam system has to be horizontal. The frame of the platform is made of 2" X 3" box so I have only 3" to hide it in. 3 on each side of the platform. I'm using a take off of Wesley treat design with the cable running through the center 2" X 3" X 164" center box of the platform. The lift will live on the second floor of my barn and the supports for the mechanism are 2 6" X 18" LVLs that flank the ends of the opening. The 2 Posts at the corner of the opening near the posts supporting the LVLs will be for guidance. The idea is to have as little footprint on the first floor as possible. I want to use your swing out welder mount. I tried to find a place to buy the swing out vise system. So many great ideas. Thank you so much.
Well... this just made my day! Thank you so Much! This is the goal! Try to inspire others! Such a compliment! Thank you again!!! If you ever get a video...... Please let me know. Would love to see that all in action!!!
What size handle bars are those 14 inch?
yea.. i think close. I bent them and I think they were just a bit under 14. 13 is probably closer.
Any way I can get the plans for this build. I could definitely use this so much. Either way very talented Sir.
I don't have plans, Just built it on th fly. but thank you!
So are you sell the plans on how to make these? Would like to buy!
Do you mind sharing the diagram of the trolley system? Or a closer picture of how you put it together what type of bearings you used ect.
This is the best design I've come across.
thank you!!!
Best DiY lift on youtube thus far.
Thank You!
Just found this. Your website is down. Is there anyway I can still buy 1? I have checked on eBay as well
Yeah. They haven’t been available for several years. Kind of put this video up to see if there was any interest because later this year, I may get back to building them again.

Can I run a 16” Harley wheel on an XS650? Such as with the Voodoo hardtail?

Awesome!!
Also!! This bike versus the sporty what would be your pick and why?? Reason I ask is because I already have a hardtailed sporty and now building my xs650. Thanks!!!
You'll like them both probably equally if you get that 650 running good. Those 1200 have more power and thats about the only thing that in my mind separates them.. Have fun building that 650 man!
@@164ChopShop thanks a ton man!!!! Appreciate you!!
Hey man you got a lot of talent there. May I ask what diameter exhaust tubing you use? I always ran 1 3/4 on the evo big twin choppers I built and my shovels, these ex650s that may not be the rite diameter. Thanks!!
Thanks man!!! Yea 1 3/4 is what i used.

Hey boss I'm close to pulling the trigger on what i need to get my front wheel set up, but i wanted to know if that axle would fit in a dyna hub? RIP RIDE DIE RIP RIDE DIE 🔥
The dyna hubs are too wide unless it's froma dyna with a narrow glide. Hope that helps.
Man what an insane XS. I feel like a lot of times dropping that seat so low looks a bit disproportionate, but the lines of this bike are fantastic! Top notch build, love the minimalist bars and tucked wiring. Awesome attention to detail!
Hey thanks! my goal was to show that there could be a great lookin drop seat (never saw one either). I love to build and when I retire from my regular job.... I may produce these. Just a thought that ive had for planning for "what the hell im gonna do when i retire" I really appreciate the respect!!! Thank you very much!
