Saw The Last Emperor in a theater and purchased the soundtrack. I liked David Byrne and Ruichi Sakamoto even more. I was into edgy music. I thought it was a feast for the eyes. Life for Pu Yi was like being onstage and participating in rituals all the time while living in the Forbidden City. When you watch Downton Abbey, you get the same feeling. Good luck with your knits!

Good afternoon> I'm a retired high school biology teachger and in advanced placement. I have an entomology degree from UC Berkeley and studies in Environmental Science.. I've taken various chemistry classes these chemistry classes impacted me the most in what I choose for my clothing and knitwear is the avoidance (as much as possible) of nylon. I'm writing this because nylon is made from petrochemicals (think gasoline). Yes, it's natural but when refined and produced into fabric or yarn, it will off gas. Off gassing (think of that new car smell) has detriental effects on our health to all living organism. The yarn you use that has nylon is offgassing to the sweet little kids. I'm not mentioning this but to make you aware (and why I don't knit with nylon ,,, though that is difficult to do because of the wool/nylon mix and difficult to avoid). Do a Google Searches to learn more about this just be careful where the sites originate from. Apologies if this is long ...

I think Michael Cimino's Heavens Gate was another famous movie flop at the time. On The first Rocky movie, if you disregard all the boxing and training in the film, and focus on Sly and all the other cast members there are some very good profound performances. The small hometown people just getting by. It's about relationships and love caring and extremely gratifying that you really care about these townspeople. Robert Redford in The Natural is not a movie about baseball at all. 😮

I've never been a great movie viewer, but listening to your reviews is really interesting. (As I knit an emotional support chicken for my godchild's son who was born this morning. 😊)

Yours is the first knitting pod I watched. Because of all the horrid news I have watching more pods and streaming. My hubs works weird hours and sleeps a lot when I am knitting, etc I am so happy for another episode. Some knitting pods are sleepy. I didn't see "The Last Emperor". As a former News Director, I did see "Broadcast News", and "Moonstruck".

I hate Elf too!! It may be bc Will Ferrell is on my "least favorite actors" list, but i have lots of unpopular opinions 😂 I don't like the movie with the leg lamp either, and i don't ever swatch, and I'm beyond happy that Vlogmas is over 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm always thrilled to see a new episode by you guys tho!! I pester my boys cause I want to see them as much as possible. And I want to find out what I have been up to lately. Secretly, I am super proud of them. I have another son but he doesn't participate in things like this. I am super proud of him too. He's the one who helps create my grandbabies. 🙂

I think this was one of the best episodes you guys have done in a long while. I actually even listen to the movie reviews which I laughed out loud at 2 AM 😍Those movies in the early 80s were some that I really enjoyed. It reminded me that perhaps I should try to rewatch some of them again. Even the Razzi movie seemed like it might be worthwhile lol just for some good chuckles.

The Angela Lansbury reviews were great but the comparison reviews are so much more entertaining. Lol

It’s so good to see you both again! I have a suggestion for blocking John’s baby blanket. If you want acrylic to keep a certain shape you need to pin it out to that shape and steam it well without touching it with the iron (or whatever you use to steam with). Let it dry completely. Steam blocking acrylic will also soften it and make it have more drape. It can then be machine washed and dried and keep that shape. That is what I would do if the fiber content is mostly acrylic. Good luck!

For as materialistic as the 80s were, there were a lot of relationship movies. Postcards From the Edge is too close to my sister and mother. And the 80s tear-jerkers are great for when you need a sad day - Beaches is like, the BEST/WORST for a good cry.

My partner gave me the dvd of the Last Emporer for Christmas in 2023. And I believe that The Dresser was a duel best actor nomination at the time. 😮

My besty loved Terms of Endearment, but i loved The Big Chill which seems like a better movie with lasting appeal. I was a recent college grad new to city life (Atlanta) and i saw so many good movies: flashdance, Footloose and all of those movies yoh mention.

I think John's hat WIP is either designed or inspired by the late, great Cat Bordhi.

In early December, youngest child (adult) and I went to a screening of Elf. The lights were kept at half so we could stitches while we watched. When we came out of the theatre it was snowing that picture perfect way.
