Merry Christmas to All 🎶 Great knitcast, as always. And great job on the knitted Christmas Balls, Scott. I have stuffed them with both acrylic and Shetland top. The top was much easier to manipulate. As to stuffing into the tiny hole, I used a larger (8) wooden needle and a eraser end of a pencil. Worked perfectly. Happy New Year 🎉

I have CPTSD & my husband has 2 co-occurring anxiety disorders. It’s been a tough few weeks for us as well. ‘Tis the season, right?! I’m glad to see you back & looking well. I knit lots of socks and have kept a note of how many stitches and how many rounds I need for my family, now I can knit them without doing all the maths again. Love you videos. Wishing you both a very happy Christmas xx

I clicked to watch your concert when you mentioned it and listened while cooking. Scott, when I got to your solo, I got an alert from Amazon that my package had arrived! The kids thought I was crazy for freaking out, but what were the odds?! It was just some AAAA batteries, but still! Beautiful concert btw, and such a wonderful group. Wanted to know... does Betty Ann have any special Christmas treats she makes up? A hot dish or jello mold by chance? Some of my fondest holiday memories include the ride to Grandma's house, betting on what she was going to have in the jello salad each year. No one ever won because no one ever expected celery could go so well with lime, or carrot with strawberry, or that special year where there was raisins in orange jello. Merry Christmas! We usually made what felt like a few thousand iced and decorated sugar cookies. Mom also made cheese straws but she says she doesn't remember making them all that often, I guess they made an impression on me.

Glad that you are back. I used glass balls that I got from Michael's I just put the ball in when I am close to finishing, works great they have different size balls and they fit and I am not good at stuffing fiber fill and getting enough to make it look good.

Scott! I love the Arne & Carlos spruce ball. I use polyfill too (it's cheaper than wool or roving) and have found that it's hard to get the stuffing through the tiny hole. Over a few balls I've discovered that if you pull it sort of thin and then go a little at a time it is easier. Plus, I think you need a bit more of the polyfill to make the balls not look lumpy (or at least that's true for me - more fill and they look rounder). Please write a new Christmas carol called "Tube Toppin' the Town" for next year's chorus concert. For the A&C balls, I recommend shredding the polyfill with your fingers before stuffing the ball, so that there are no clumps in it at all.
The trick to stuffing is grab a hand full and pull it apart over and over and over then you stuff the heck out of it. Generally 3 to five times the ball size. More is better because they will compact over the years. I learned this from my Grandma who made beautiful dolls.
Love the podcast as always! I need to watch the concert. By the way, they sell wool roving $5 for 100g on Knit Picks. Now that I learned to spin, i have so much fiber..lol.
Herd of Turtles came from one time that John was trying to remember the name of a colorway and he called it Herd of Turtles. It was kind of like the time he came up with Rusted Wheelchair as a colorway name. 😂

Just thought of something. I have been using 100% merino quilt stuffing and I find it makes the ball more malleable, easy to shape the ball. Kind of like rolling a small bread dough into a ball. If you don't like the end result, just roll it about in your hand till you have that nice round shape. It doesn't take a lot of wool to stuff the ball. Make sure you watch their vid on how to knit a christmas ball. It's a few years old, I think. Have fun!
Thanks for another great episode. Re. Angela Lansbury films, I'm newish to the podcast so haven't seen every episode, so just wondering if you've watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks yet. It made a big impression on me in my early childhood (early 70's), but I haven't seen it since. I don't think it came on TV when I was a kid, as far as I was aware, but then we had few channels, and no cable or VCRs. I haven't yet tracked down an Angela Lansbury film to watch along with you, but if you ever watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I'd love to view it in sync with your guys. Yes, Rowan's alpaca soft dk is non-superwash and it puffs up really well with blocking. Check out Arne and Carlos's vid on how to knit xmas balls. There are clues on how to stuff and block the knitting balls. None of this info is in their directions for the new xmas balls. :D
I lived in Minneapolis many years ago and when I moved there I had no idea what a hot dish was!!! Well I learned and was always told it wasn’t a hot dish unless there were crumbled potato chips on top.
I made pumpkins in the fall and stuffed them really really full and they shaped up nice. Macy from maceofskeins on Etsy also has hand dyed sparkle yarn. She’s got beautiful color ways
John, your Christmas sweater looks like the high school band uniform I had to wear 30-something years ago! Have you tried making those ornaments with a plastic ornament inside rather than a fiber fill? I just made one (not Arne and Carlos) and it came out really nice with a plastic ornament inside Lol- Telly Savalas’s mother was my moms Sunday school teacher!
I haven't done it with a plastic ornament inside, but I have with a glass ornament and it turned out beautifully. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it takes longer for me to do it that way rather than just knitting it and stuffing it. But, it definitely looks better. Also - we're small world connection with Terry Savalas!

Please write a new Christmas carol called "Tube Toppin' the Town" for next year's chorus concert. For the A&C balls, I recommend shredding the polyfill with your fingers before stuffing the ball, so that there are no clumps in it at all.

The trick to stuffing is grab a hand full and pull it apart over and over and over then you stuff the heck out of it. Generally 3 to five times the ball size. More is better because they will compact over the years. I learned this from my Grandma who made beautiful dolls.

Herd of Turtles came from one time that John was trying to remember the name of a colorway and he called it Herd of Turtles. It was kind of like the time he came up with Rusted Wheelchair as a colorway name. 😂

Just thought of something. I have been using 100% merino quilt stuffing and I find it makes the ball more malleable, easy to shape the ball. Kind of like rolling a small bread dough into a ball. If you don't like the end result, just roll it about in your hand till you have that nice round shape. It doesn't take a lot of wool to stuff the ball. Make sure you watch their vid on how to knit a christmas ball. It's a few years old, I think. Have fun!

Thanks for another great episode. Re. Angela Lansbury films, I'm newish to the podcast so haven't seen every episode, so just wondering if you've watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks yet. It made a big impression on me in my early childhood (early 70's), but I haven't seen it since. I don't think it came on TV when I was a kid, as far as I was aware, but then we had few channels, and no cable or VCRs. I haven't yet tracked down an Angela Lansbury film to watch along with you, but if you ever watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I'd love to view it in sync with your guys. Yes, Rowan's alpaca soft dk is non-superwash and it puffs up really well with blocking. Check out Arne and Carlos's vid on how to knit xmas balls. There are clues on how to stuff and block the knitting balls. None of this info is in their directions for the new xmas balls. :D
I lived in Minneapolis many years ago and when I moved there I had no idea what a hot dish was!!! Well I learned and was always told it wasn’t a hot dish unless there were crumbled potato chips on top.

I haven't done it with a plastic ornament inside, but I have with a glass ornament and it turned out beautifully. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it takes longer for me to do it that way rather than just knitting it and stuffing it. But, it definitely looks better.

When you watch the Angela Landsbury movies, do you know ahead of time which character she plays and when she appears in the movie? It seems like you would have had to watch very closely for her appearance in The Greatest Story.

That's funny - I didn't even notice it. Christopher is my first name, but I have always been called "Scott" because my dad's name is Chris but we don't have the same middle name so I'm not technically a "Junior."

Scott I know how you feel when you talk to John about color. My husband of almost 52 years is color blind. After all this time I sometimes tell him that his colors look okay together when they don’t just to see if our daughter mentions it when she visits.🤪😂
