Hello there Miss Juicyrootsy! My, you are smart & a looker!!! Wow!!! I met SRV at age 11, because his cousins lived down the block from my house in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. His mother was driving us home. Whenever I went to his cousins’ house, sometimes he would show up there. One time, his uncle brought out some boxing gloves, and suggested Steve and I box. Having the longest arms of any kid in the neighbourhood, I bested Steve,but let my guard down and Steve got a good upper cut to my chin! That HURT!!! Years later, we found ourselves at the same High School: J.F. Kimball. Steve played at many of our school sock hops, but would only play guitar. Several guys sang vocals, one was future actor Stephen Tobolowsky of “Groundhog Day” fame. They brought the house down! Steve was always having to see the principal for something he did or didn’t do! One day I was going to another class, and the principal’s door opened wide, and Steve came out looking like he was about to murder someone! I said “What’s the matter Steve?” He just said the Principal’s name. I asked what he did now? He told me that he heard on the news yesterday that Jimi Hendrix had died. He said he politely asked him if he could put ona Memorial Concert for him in the school auditorium. He told me that the principal said “No! Jimi Hendrix died of a drug overdose, and doesn’t deserve a in his honour!” I told Steve that if he’d asked me first about it, I would have told him that he would say that! Jimi Hendrix was Steve’s big example of guitar playing. He got madder and walked out the front door!!! I believe that was when he quit school. I never saw him in person afterwards. Many years later, I was a then-married man man with a kid, and came home from visiting friends, and turned on the TV to “Saturday Night Live” only to hear Mick Jagger’s now ex-wife say that a fellow Texan and rock star was the musical guest and said it was Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I remember saying to my then-wife that I had once known someone in high school with a name like that! It turned out to be the guy I knew in high school!!! He didn’t use his middle name before. He was Steve Vaughan when I knew him. After that, I saw him on lots of shows, like the Dave Letterman Show, and various others. Our Boy made it!!! Then one day, I heard he was in a fatal copter crash, and that he was being buried near his Father in Dallas. I called in to work and said I was sick, and I went to the cemetery. There were several thousand people there. Several dozen of our classmates were there. There was a chapel there, and someone told me that it was a chapel for family and friends of the deceased. The door opened a few minutes later, and ZZ Top walked out, and several rock stars I’d only seen on television, or on record and CD covers! There was a floral guitar with Stevie’s famous hat on the fret. They played Stevie and Jimmie’s duet of “Tick-tock”. Jackson Browne, Stevie Wonder, and some female singer who I don’t remember sang a a capella hymn. People were there from New York & L.A., and even Europe and Australia! A blind man from Australia came to Austin and enquired about the funeral, and was told that it was in Dallas. He hailed a cab and paid the driver to take him to the funeral, which was at least 100 miles or more away! There were thousands at the cemetery, and when we left,there were thousands more on the freeway trying to get in! I play SRV music constantly whenever I am around any device that plays music. I saw him play live, and I’ll listen to him sing any day of the week!
There was a LOT more too it with the Bowie tour fiasco. Stevie had gone to NY to practice with the band before going on the road. Prior to going to NYC SRV had discussed a few things with Bowie regarding being able to finish Couldn't Stand the Weather, being able to play live shows with Bowie's Band and on off days playing (with DT) shadowing the tour. Also being able to plug his new album while doing media work with Bowie. Bowie had said he'd get it handled, come to NY and we'll make it work. While there Bowie kept putting it off, then said Stevie couldn't talk about his band during ay media engagements. Finally Stevie got a message saying Double Trouble couldn't shadow the band and Stevie would be only allowed to play with Bowie during the tour. Stevie reached out a few times to Bowie with no reply then was told Bowie had flown to the Caribbean for a week holiday to relax before the tour started the following week and could not be reached. This really pissed SRV off. There was a scene, finally Bowie called Stevie where he asked Bowie if it were true, that He and Double Trouble couldn't play dates on the tour on his off days. When Bowie said Stevie couldn't play with his own band as all his energy had to be on Bowie's shows, Stevie felt lied too. Having all that was promised taken away. After the call with Bowie, he quit, Stevie packed up went back to his band. Most thought it was a risky move, however Couldn't Stand the Weather was getting airplay and without a tour could have faded away very quick. Leaving Bowie's, going on tour with DT was the right thing to do, Stevie blew up and brought Blues back to the mainstream blues and rock stations.
You are right!!! The funny thing is I did have a whole tangent about the contract tiff, too, and I accidentally edited the whole thing out. I had such a busy week at work and everything by the time I realized the mistake I was like GOSH DARN! I am not re-doing this whole thing ! lol! So thank you for adding that!! However way you look at it SRV propelled David Bowie into Superstardom. His exceptional guitar playing on the Lets Dznce album were outstanding totally making it tbf
This deal with Bowie actually happened way before Couldn't stand the weather. this was just before they released Texas flood, not Couldn't stand the weather.
When the King brothers put the crown 👑 on your hat, not much more needs to be said. The greatest of all the greats and there are a lot of great blues players from the past till today. SRV is still at the top of that mountain. Incredible player, often imitated, never duplicated. Simply the best. Peace 😎 ✌️ from Canada, eh.
Seen him twice, in Norfolk VA. (the Boathouse ) I was Blown away . though the blues were something that old blues guys played . He played so good so hard , so smooth , so sweet, I couldn't believe it. I knew in the moment that he was the New Blues. Incredible for me to see what a true Star. Double trouble was so tight , happy to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double trouble with Reese Wyans $8 bucks at the door .
I was in a SRV cover band playing in 89 in lynnwood washington who would come in the room when we were playing SRV stood in the door way for a few minutes and left after the gig we asked about the guy dressed like SRV they said it was SRV ! Mind you i was the singer drummer my heart sank to my shoes i missed my chance to meet one of my idols in music this was in an AA hall
Thought I knew pretty much everything about his life and career but definitely learned a few things I never had heard before.Cant believe it's been that long since his death,I didn't really hear or appreciate his music until after he was gone,First thing I ever heard was him playing Texas flood on Austin city limit.Never have had anything hit me like that did,I was in the other room and could just barely hear it,I can remember that feeling Like it was yesterday.I wish I could have seen him in person,He is a guitar legend of course but really so much more than that,such an inspiration in my life.I hope wherever he is he can look down and see all the love people have for him all over the world.
A great documentary - and the girl speaking did a great job. I am about Stevie's age, and have come to love his music and talent more and more through the decades.
I first heard Stevie in about 1968 - as I was a big Johnny Winter fan. Crazy good. Then later, I lived near Lake Geneva, WI when Stevie played his last concert at Troy - only a few miles away. Still wish I made it to that last concert. Love your music & legacy S.R.V. and Double Trouble.

I would have killed to see him on stage with Jeff Beck!!! I've seen Jeff Beck but obv never saw SRV except on videos. But there's nothing better for me than turning off all the lights and putting SRV on a huge projector and neglecting all my loved ones until the concert ends! lol!!! I was at the Saturday evening Alpine Valley concert. Stevie’s playing he was on fire, there was something special that night that when would hit a note it just went through you like a lightning bolt. The closing jam with Eric Clapton, Jeff Healey, Jimmy Vaughan, Stevie and Robert Cray was unbelievable. Driving to work Monday morning I learned of Stevie’s death, what a tragedy. I will forever miss Stevie as he was truly someone special who blessed us with his music.
Very few guitarists have Stevie's gift of closing their minds to their surroundings and letting the music take control even fewer have the gift of playing instantly what the music is telling them what to play
You forgot to mention Steven tobolosky (actor in Hollywood) played Ned Ryerson in groundhog day. He went to oak Cliff as well, and was in a band called a cast of thousands, and they did a record where Stevie ray played on when he was 14. It was his first studio recording ever. It's on TH-cam Also i would like to mention the famous guitar that SRV played was a 59 burst strat, well worn. He called it number one, and he got this guitar at a shop owned by Ray Hennings, a popular guitar store for the musicians at the time. Srv used to come in all the time and run his fingers across all the strings as the guitars hung on the wall, he reached the ugly strat, and played it, and said he had to have it, where did it come from? Ray said Christopher Cross traded it and some money and a new les Paul, so that's the story goes, he came back and paid for it, so two famous musicians (different styles) owned this guitar, im not for sure if it was used in any recordings by Cross though.(also a TH-cam vid of ray before he passed telling the story) 😉😉So there's two more fun facts for you
I used to go to the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl,L.A. where I saw SRV,being a bass player I was familiar with SRV's music,which I very much loved and played, but most of the jazz fans didn't know who he was,and I overheard people around asking what he was doing there,"isn't he a rock guitarist?", but no sooner than when he was into his 2nd song everyone around me was on their feet dancing,stomping their feet and partying,so much for a "Rock guitar playet"
I saw Stevie when he played the Little Bear bar in Evergreen, CO sometime in the early 80's. He was just so good it was amazing. Don't know how the Little Bear got him to play? Willie Nelson used to show up at the Little Bear, also.
When Stevie first moved to Austin, he wasn't the same player. I was around at that time. He was still developing. He really didn't come into his own until later, then his playing just exploded.
The actor in ground hogs day as insurance salesman was in a band when he was younger and his brother had gotten SRV (like 14ye Old) to help with a couple of songs that was going to be on a album you should listen to this story about them in a recording studio. Stevie and his brother Jimmie are two of the all time great blues musicians who ever played They are the type of musicians who are born every 400 years or so...
To the content creator- Thank you so much for sharing this. I was lucky enough to see Stevie at the Grand Ole Opry house in Nashville in 1985 and he was in fire that night. I also remember where I was the day the news broke about the crash. August of 89 . There’s no telling where he would have gone to achieve.
I can't think of a better place than seeing him at the Grand Ole Opry! I might be mistaken but I think by 85 they had JUST opened the larger Opry location out near Opry Mills Mall (away from the Ryman). Either way, seeing him must have been such an incredible experience. I'm so glad you are here and enjoyed it!
It actually was the location at Opry Mills. It was a great show. But I do remember Stevie being frustrated at times and once he threw his guitar up in the air “ at least 20’ “ and his roadie had to catch it.

Not to nitpick, but SRV's career was much longer than 7 years. He started playing in clubs with various bands in the very early 1970s as a teenager. At the time of his death, he'd been a professional musician for over 20 years.
Correct! That "7 years" was the part of his career under big name record labels which had been somewhat incorrectly considered & called the "professional" part of his career.

On Halloween 1979 I lived in Austin, near UT. Around the corner from me a party was going on at an off campus student housing complex so I invited myself in to find this power trio playing Hendrix. Like yeah! Stevie Ray was dressed as Hendrix. Yowie high caliber fun.
He died on my birthday I'm born August 27th it was heartbreaking to hear the news over the radio 📻 I was in shock when I heard the News I was turning 11 years old I spent my birthday crying 😢 about his death
Stevie did an interview in late in 1988 in London and called Janna his finance. Also, please take note of the 2nd piece of paper you showed. Those are not music lyrics. The entire set of notes are from 1989. Stevie and Janna moved into a HOUSE in Dallas in May 1987, 4344 Travis Street. Also, an efficiency apartment was rented in NYC early 1990, and they were moving into a 2 bedroom apt across the hall when Stevie passed. Also, Jimmie Vaughan owns ALL of the rights and ALL of Stevie's music. I could go on.
Also, he met Janna while on tour in New Zealand not Switzerland. It's been well documented. He even did a tv commercial alongside her. She was very stunning. I'm a kiwi and we take great pride that we have this connection with him.

Hendrix? You're saying Jimi Hendrix bought Jimmie's wah pedal or Jimmie had a 'Hendrix wah pedal? I met Al, Jimi's dad, and he mentioned nothing about his son buying anything from some Vaughan kid. I kid, of course, but I actually did meet Al Hendrix during some book tour he was on. I saw Stevie in May of '89 in San Diego's Balboa Park. I was front row just left of center and at one point I actually had a brief chat with him between songs about a mysterious breeze. Weird w/out a back story, I know. Stevie ended our talk with, 'I really don't have a clue,' and with a wink and a smile he spun around started up with 'Tightrope'. And wouldn't you know it. And wouldn't you know it, that breeze started up once again emanating directly from Stevie and smacking me and a few others right in the face. Other than maybe Rush, I was never as mesmerized as I was watching Stevie. He was on fire that night. Truly blown away.
I took his death to heart . Really bummed out all day. I was only 30 at the time. I did see a band that the lead guy sounded and dressed and played a lot like SRV. Right here in my home state Ct.
Both Stevie and Tommy asserted they met at The Fog when Stevie was 14 and Tommy had just left Johnny Winters. band. They were not in the same band at that time.
My apologies if someone has already pointed these out to you. 1. When you spoke of Stevie's wife Lenny, you showed an incorrect photo twice, beginning at 38:18. That is in fact Jill Savage, well known DJ, radio personality at Q102 FM in Dallas. That was a photo shoot for an interview or his live appearance on her show. She & Stevie were good friends. She attended his funeral & is on camera speaking to a TV news reporter about him. Google internet search also has her incorrectly ID'd as Lenora "Lenny" Bailey Vaughan. Your photo at minute 15:47 is correct of Stevie with his arm around his wife Lenny who he named his #2 guitar after. 2. Janna (pronounced Jonna) Lapidus LeBlanc, (her current married name.) Correct, she is of Russian heritage. She was born in Russia & was very fortunate to have been granted legal asylum (for lack of a better word) to leave the country for a better life elsewhere. As a very young girl, she & her parents moved to New Zealand where she went to school & grew up. She embraces her Russian heritage but identifies as a Kiwi. Your photos of her with Stevie beginning at 38:44 are correct. I literally cried tears working on the next episode of the series which is going through the helicopter crash details. Such a horrible loss to the music industry but so blessed we had him on this earth

He actually played guitar on Bowie's title track, Let's Dance, in '83 and Stevie didn't like the music video that followed for a few reasons. If this turns out to be one of your researched and anticlimactic moments, then you have my apology. Your subtle sense of humor in reference to the Montreux segment is appreciated. 🤣 And bye the way, I hate Lenny too! I remember exactly where I was when hearing about the fatal helicopter crash on the radio. A sad day, indeed.
Sort of - Stevie didn't want to do the dance steps Bowie wanted him to do. Stevie was horrified that Bowie presented to play SRV's solo in the Let's Dance video. Stevie is all over the Let's Dance album. Check out his work on these two tracks Ricochet and Cat People ( putting out the fire ). I've seen him live. My niece looked after Stevie and his girlfriend on a NZ tour. She said they were a beautiful sweet unassuming couple. Peace

I don't recall nor can I find "Tin Pan Alley" played by Jimmy Reed. Reed's style of music was completely different from other blues/rock musicians. However, there is a seminal version of "Tin Pan Alley" recorded by Jimmy Wilson. Too, take a listen to "Texas Flood", first recorded by Larry Davis (to whom Vaughan gives due credit on his Texas Flood Album"). The guitarist thereon was Fenton Robinson who died in 1997. Robinson had some awesome "licks" on that recording that Vaughan mastered and moved way beyond.. Excellent biographical documentary!
Not mentioned... didn't Albert King play a part in Stevie's development as a mentor? And Reese Wynans didn't become a part of Double Trouble until late 84 early 85?
Albert played at Antones and Stevie begged Clifford to ask Albert if he could jam. Albert at first said no but eventually let him come up and he was impressed
SRV was the only celebrity death that bothered me. I was a fan from his 1st album. He was an influential person to me and my buddies being musiciana and a band
I saw Stevie twice live once in Ottawa and Tuscon in early mid eighties what I thought he was playing while rolling twirling his guitar on stage was Voodoo Chile Slight Return now I realize it wasn't it was Third Stone From The Sun. He was very influenced by Howling Wolf and Johnny Guitar Watson he might have been with double trouble but he was definitely a triple threat.

You mentioned quite a bit about Tommy Shannon, you mentioned how SRV admired Johnny Winters. However, you failed to mention Tommy played for Johnny Winters for quite a while before rekindling his relationship with SRV many years later. Pretty impressive doc though. I love to see younger generations appreciate the greatness of the past.
I have the two dvd set from the Switzerland shows the first one is great the more the crowd booed the harder Stevie played when they walked off the stage Stevie turned around an gave them a go to hell look i was sure he was going to give them the finger but Stevie was a class act
Let me tell ya'll something as a lifelong guitarist/singer/blues harp/stage performer of many years. I'm speaking from firsthand experience ( and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying the following ): I don't know about nowadays, but years ago, jazz "purist" fans were the biggest snobs in all of music. As many of you know, most music critics absolutely suck...........and the jazz "purist" fans were just like the critics, believing they are better & smarter than everyone else. Can you imagine a juggernaut of a blues act like Stevie Ray & Double Trouble all pumped up & hungry to please fans during that European performance, only to have a bunch of rude, obnoxious, stuck-up, and musically clueless jazz "purist" snobs booing them? What makes this scenario even more pathetic is the fact that the vast majority of those "purist" snobs couldn't play a single chord on any instrument. But every one of those snobs sure love pretending as if they're "wise critics who know good music when they hear it". Kind of reminds me from long ago when virtually every mainstream music critic totally dissed Led Zeppelin. But no matter how scathing the articles were by those clueless critics, THE PEOPLE still loved & bought every Led Zeppelin studio album as they paid the highest cost ever ( up to that point in time ), for concert tickets to see Led Zeppelin..........the critics be damned.
They loved the blues for them it was more about being considered a true real blues guitarist more then anything Steve was massively popular in the Texas rock scene packing shows and huge local rock scenes but Steve wanted be a blues musician and wanted to be considered a true blues guitarist he ended up stopping playing in very popular rock bands to play much less popular blues that maybe quarter of the fans he went from being in the most popular rock bands to strictly playing blues I don't really understand why he wanted to be blues so badly when he had a much better chances and more money playing rock but he became one of the most iconic guitarist of all times so I guess he made the right choice 😅

I applaud your choice of bio subject! However you have missed many important facts. You brought up Johnny Winter, like an afterthought, who is an absolute legend. You also seemed to miss the fact that Stevie played guitar on David Bowie's Lets Dance album. Which if you had done any research, you would know that this was his big break!
It was actually Jimmy who broke his collar bone while playing football. His parents got jim a guitar to keep him from playing football. Stevie then started playing to be like his brother. Also his career was 7 years signed but he was a paid musician since he was 16.
Wow! This is one of the huge downsides to TH-cam. Anyone and everyone with a camera, has the ability to throw together a "Bio" video, and post it on here, to be seen by the masses. With no fact checking required. They can just say whatever they feel like saying, with no regard for accuracy. It literally changes history. Because non historians, who want to learn about a historical figure like Stevie, who's no longer with us, find videos like this. Then assume its accurate, when its not. Starting then, every generation that follows, gets a more and more diluted version of the truth. In a hundred years from now, little to no facts will remain about the life of this amazing human being. The historical revision is already well under way, on the life of Elvis. Always fact check the people, who make these videos!!!
Bowie offered side man money , that was it. There’s definitely two distinct periods of the man’s life before and after his sobriety, and you could say what you want. I wasn’t a fan after the sober thing, baggy suits , bigger arenas. He became another music product . I first saw him at 17 in ‘82 at a club and was blown away, he did the third stone Hendrix number , thrashed , stood on the guitar , and left it just feedbacking on the stage .
There's definitely a difference, but he also matured as a musician, same as Hendrix did, the gags were over, the tricks of playing behind the back, back of head, teeth, all been done before by then. The el macambo version and first Austin city limits were gone, now you got second ACL srv, and BTW baggy suits were the style back then, he stopped his whole Hendrix look, and went preppy, same as Clapton, and the rest of the pack he was playing with, or contemporaries. He didn't sell out, if he did there wouldn't be the music we have today

I said “What’s the matter Steve?” He just said the Principal’s name. I asked what he did now? He told me that he heard on the news yesterday that Jimi Hendrix had died. He said he politely asked him if he could put ona Memorial Concert for him in the school auditorium. He told me that the principal said “No! Jimi Hendrix died of a drug overdose, and doesn’t deserve a in his honour!” I told Steve that if he’d asked me first about it, I would have told him that he would say that! Jimi Hendrix was Steve’s big example of guitar playing. He got madder and walked out the front door!!! I believe that was when he quit school. I never saw him in person afterwards.
Many years later, I was a then-married man man with a kid, and came home from visiting friends, and turned on the TV to “Saturday Night Live” only to hear Mick Jagger’s now ex-wife say that a fellow Texan and rock star was the musical guest and said it was Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I remember saying to my then-wife that I had once known someone in high school with a name like that! It turned out to be the guy I knew in high school!!! He didn’t use his middle name before. He was Steve Vaughan when I knew him.
After that, I saw him on lots of shows, like the Dave Letterman Show, and various others. Our Boy made it!!!
Then one day, I heard he was in a fatal copter crash, and that he was being buried near his Father in Dallas. I called in to work and said I was sick, and I went to the cemetery. There were several thousand people there. Several dozen of our classmates were there. There was a chapel there, and someone told me that it was a chapel for family and friends of the deceased. The door opened a few minutes later, and ZZ Top walked out, and several rock stars I’d only seen on television, or on record and CD covers! There was a floral guitar with Stevie’s famous hat on the fret. They played Stevie and Jimmie’s duet of “Tick-tock”. Jackson Browne, Stevie Wonder, and some female singer who I don’t remember sang a a capella hymn. People were there from New York & L.A., and even Europe and Australia! A blind man from Australia came to Austin and enquired about the funeral, and was told that it was in Dallas. He hailed a cab and paid the driver to take him to the funeral, which was at least 100 miles or more away! There were thousands at the cemetery, and when we left,there were thousands more on the freeway trying to get in!
I play SRV music constantly whenever I am around any device that plays music. I saw him play live, and I’ll listen to him sing any day of the week!
Bonnie Raitt sang with Stevie Wonder & Jackson Browne at SRV's funeral. I love your story of your true life experience, btw.
There was a LOT more too it with the Bowie tour fiasco. Stevie had gone to NY to practice with the band before going on the road. Prior to going to NYC SRV had discussed a few things with Bowie regarding being able to finish Couldn't Stand the Weather, being able to play live shows with Bowie's Band and on off days playing (with DT) shadowing the tour. Also being able to plug his new album while doing media work with Bowie. Bowie had said he'd get it handled, come to NY and we'll make it work. While there Bowie kept putting it off, then said Stevie couldn't talk about his band during ay media engagements. Finally Stevie got a message saying Double Trouble couldn't shadow the band and Stevie would be only allowed to play with Bowie during the tour. Stevie reached out a few times to Bowie with no reply then was told Bowie had flown to the Caribbean for a week holiday to relax before the tour started the following week and could not be reached. This really pissed SRV off. There was a scene, finally Bowie called Stevie where he asked Bowie if it were true, that He and Double Trouble couldn't play dates on the tour on his off days. When Bowie said Stevie couldn't play with his own band as all his energy had to be on Bowie's shows, Stevie felt lied too. Having all that was promised taken away. After the call with Bowie, he quit, Stevie packed up went back to his band. Most thought it was a risky move, however Couldn't Stand the Weather was getting airplay and without a tour could have faded away very quick. Leaving Bowie's, going on tour with DT was the right thing to do, Stevie blew up and brought Blues back to the mainstream blues and rock stations.

You are right!!! The funny thing is I did have a whole tangent about the contract tiff, too, and I accidentally edited the whole thing out. I had such a busy week at work and everything by the time I realized the mistake I was like GOSH DARN! I am not re-doing this whole thing ! lol! So thank you for adding that!! You can pause on that part of the video and read the newspaper article I put up briefly where it goes into more depth about the contract issues
However way you look at it SRV propelled David Bowie into Superstardom. His exceptional guitar playing on the Lets Dznce album were outstanding totally making it tbf

Seen him twice, in Norfolk VA. (the Boathouse ) I was Blown away . though the blues were something that old blues guys played . He played so good so hard , so smooth , so sweet, I couldn't believe it. I knew in the moment that he was the New Blues. Incredible for me to see what a true Star. Double trouble was so tight , happy to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double trouble with Reese Wyans $8 bucks at the door .

I was in a SRV cover band playing in 89 in lynnwood washington who would come in the room when we were playing SRV stood in the door way for a few minutes and left after the gig we asked about the guy dressed like SRV they said it was SRV ! Mind you i was the singer drummer my heart sank to my shoes i missed my chance to meet one of my idols in music this was in an AA hall
Thought I knew pretty much everything about his life and career but definitely learned a few things I never had heard before.Cant believe it's been that long since his death,I didn't really hear or appreciate his music until after he was gone,First thing I ever heard was him playing Texas flood on Austin city limit.Never have had anything hit me like that did,I was in the other room and could just barely hear it,I can remember that feeling Like it was yesterday.I wish I could have seen him in person,He is a guitar legend of course but really so much more than that,such an inspiration in my life.I hope wherever he is he can look down and see all the love people have for him all over the world.

I first heard Stevie in about 1968 - as I was a big Johnny Winter fan. Crazy good. Then later, I lived near Lake Geneva, WI when Stevie played his last concert at Troy - only a few miles away. Still wish I made it to that last concert. Love your music & legacy S.R.V. and Double Trouble.

I was at the Saturday evening Alpine Valley concert. Stevie’s playing he was on fire, there was something special that night that when would hit a note it just went through you like a lightning bolt. The closing jam with Eric Clapton, Jeff Healey, Jimmy Vaughan, Stevie and Robert Cray was unbelievable. Driving to work Monday morning I learned of Stevie’s death, what a tragedy. I will forever miss Stevie as he was truly someone special who blessed us with his music.

Very few guitarists have Stevie's gift of closing their minds to their surroundings and letting the music take control even fewer have the gift of playing instantly what the music is telling them what to play
You forgot to mention Steven tobolosky (actor in Hollywood) played Ned Ryerson in groundhog day. He went to oak Cliff as well, and was in a band called a cast of thousands, and they did a record where Stevie ray played on when he was 14. It was his first studio recording ever. It's on TH-cam
Also i would like to mention the famous guitar that SRV played was a 59 burst strat, well worn. He called it number one, and he got this guitar at a shop owned by Ray Hennings, a popular guitar store for the musicians at the time. Srv used to come in all the time and run his fingers across all the strings as the guitars hung on the wall, he reached the ugly strat, and played it, and said he had to have it, where did it come from? Ray said Christopher Cross traded it and some money and a new les Paul, so that's the story goes, he came back and paid for it, so two famous musicians (different styles) owned this guitar, im not for sure if it was used in any recordings by Cross though.(also a TH-cam vid of ray before he passed telling the story) 😉😉So there's two more fun facts for you

I used to go to the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl,L.A. where I saw SRV,being a bass player I was familiar with SRV's music,which I very much loved and played, but most of the jazz fans didn't know who he was,and I overheard people around asking what he was doing there,"isn't he a rock guitarist?", but no sooner than when he was into his 2nd song everyone around me was on their feet dancing,stomping their feet and partying,so much for a "Rock guitar playet"
I saw Stevie when he played the Little Bear bar in Evergreen, CO sometime in the early 80's. He was just so good it was amazing. Don't know how the Little Bear got him to play? Willie Nelson used to show up at the Little Bear, also.
When Stevie first moved to Austin, he wasn't the same player. I was around at that time. He was still developing. He really didn't come into his own until later, then his playing just exploded.
The actor in ground hogs day as insurance salesman was in a band when he was younger and his brother had gotten SRV (like 14ye

To the content creator- Thank you so much for sharing this. I was lucky enough to see Stevie at the Grand Ole Opry house in Nashville in 1985 and he was in fire that night. I also remember where I was the day the news broke about the crash. August of 89 . There’s no telling where he would have gone to achieve.
I can't think of a better place than seeing him at the Grand Ole Opry! I might be mistaken but I think by 85 they had JUST opened the larger Opry location out near Opry Mills Mall (away from the Ryman). Either way, seeing him must have been such an incredible experience. I'm so glad you are here and enjoyed it!
It actually was the location at Opry Mills. It was a great show. But I do remember Stevie being frustrated at times and once he threw his guitar up in the air “ at least 20’ “ and his roadie had to catch it.

Not to nitpick, but SRV's career was much longer than 7 years. He started playing in clubs with various bands in the very early 1970s as a teenager. At the time of his death, he'd been a professional musician for over 20 years.

On Halloween 1979 I lived in Austin, near UT. Around the corner from me a party was going on at an off campus student housing complex so I invited myself in to find this power trio playing Hendrix. Like yeah! Stevie Ray was dressed as Hendrix. Yowie high caliber fun.

Stevie did an interview in late in 1988 in London and called Janna his finance. Also, please take note of the 2nd piece of paper you showed. Those are not music lyrics. The entire set of notes are from 1989. Stevie and Janna moved into a HOUSE in Dallas in May 1987, 4344 Travis Street. Also, an efficiency apartment was rented in NYC early 1990, and they were moving into a 2 bedroom apt across the hall when Stevie passed. Also, Jimmie Vaughan owns ALL of the rights and ALL of Stevie's music. I could go on.

Also, he met Janna while on tour in New Zealand not Switzerland. It's been well documented. He even did a tv commercial alongside her. She was very stunning. I'm a kiwi and we take great pride that we have this connection with him.

Hendrix? You're saying Jimi Hendrix bought Jimmie's wah pedal or Jimmie had a 'Hendrix wah pedal? I met Al, Jimi's dad, and he mentioned nothing about his son buying anything from some Vaughan kid. I kid, of course, but I actually did meet Al Hendrix during some book tour he was on. I saw Stevie in May of '89 in San Diego's Balboa Park. I was front row just left of center and at one point I actually had a brief chat with him between songs about a mysterious breeze. Weird w/out a back story, I know. Stevie ended our talk with, 'I really don't have a clue,' and with a wink and a smile he spun around started up with 'Tightrope'. And wouldn't you know it.
And wouldn't you know it, that breeze started up once again emanating directly from Stevie and smacking me and a few others right in the face. Other than maybe Rush, I was never as mesmerized as I was watching Stevie. He was on fire that night. Truly blown away.
I took his death to heart . Really bummed out all day. I was only 30 at the time. I did see a band that the lead guy sounded and dressed and played a lot like SRV. Right here in my home state Ct.
Both Stevie and Tommy asserted they met at The Fog when Stevie was 14 and Tommy had just left Johnny Winters. band. They were not in the same band at that time.
My apologies if someone has already pointed these out to you. 1. When you spoke of Stevie's wife Lenny, you showed an incorrect photo twice, beginning at 38:18. That is in fact Jill Savage, well known DJ, radio personality at Q102 FM in Dallas. That was a photo shoot for an interview or his live appearance on her show. She & Stevie were good friends. She attended his funeral & is on camera speaking to a TV news reporter about him. Google internet search also has her incorrectly ID'd as Lenora "Lenny" Bailey Vaughan. Your photo at minute 15:47 is correct of Stevie with his arm around his wife Lenny who he named his #2 guitar after.
2. Janna (pronounced Jonna) Lapidus LeBlanc, (her current married name.) Correct, she is of Russian heritage. She was born in Russia & was very fortunate to have been granted legal asylum (for lack of a better word) to leave the country for a better life elsewhere. As a very young girl, she & her parents moved to New Zealand where she went to school & grew up. She embraces her Russian heritage but identifies as a Kiwi. Your photos of her with Stevie beginning at 38:44 are correct. Here's a link to Sweetman Podcast: Episode 73, an interesting live interview she did in 2017 with a music journalist from her hometown Wellington, NZ. It was in promotion of her book Four Years In Pictures about her life together with Stevie. 3. The album Live Alive title is pronounced "Lyve" with the long "i." As in a 'live concert performance.' I'm an SRV superfan. I love what I call SRVistory, SRVia & any correct & true/fact based details I can find about Stevie Ray Vaughan. Thank you for helping to enlighten both new & old fans about his amazing but tragically short & very bittersweet life & career. He was more than just a man & more than just a guitar player. He was an anti guitar god hero! He was a down to earth, sweet souled, wonderful, caring humanitarian, animal lover, advocate for anti racism & equality & the campaigain against drugs & alcohol abuse. His musicianship & guitar playing skills are unmatched to this day. Lest we forget his incredible & very underrated singing voice. He lives forever in the hearts of all of his greatest fans!

He actually played guitar on Bowie's title track, Let's Dance, in '83 and Stevie didn't like the music video that followed for a few reasons. Stevie was horrified that Bowie presented to play SRV's solo in the Let's Dance video.
Stevie is all over the Let's Dance album. Check out his work on these two tracks Ricochet and Cat People ( putting out the fire ). I've seen him live. My niece looked after Stevie and his girlfriend on a NZ tour. She said they were a beautiful sweet unassuming couple.

Trust me, 7 years is enough to leave a legacy. I mean The Beatles only stayed together for 7 years and look at the wealth of marvelous music they left us.
I don't recall nor can I find "Tin Pan Alley" played by Jimmy Reed. Reed's style of music was completely different from other blues/rock musicians. However, there is a seminal version of "Tin Pan Alley" recorded by Jimmy Wilson. Too, take a listen to "Texas Flood", first recorded by Larry Davis (to whom Vaughan gives due credit on his Texas Flood Album"). The guitarist thereon was Fenton Robinson who died in 1997. Robinson had some awesome "licks" on that recording that Vaughan mastered and moved way beyond.. Excellent biographical documentary!
Not mentioned... didn't Albert King play a part in Stevie's development as a mentor? And Reese Wynans didn't become a part of Double Trouble until late 84 early 85?
Albert played at Antones and Stevie begged Clifford to ask Albert if he could jam. Albert at first said no but eventually let him come up and he was impressed
SRV was the only celebrity death that bothered me. I was a fan from his 1st album. He was an influential person to me and my buddies being musiciana and a band
I was selling his music in Rockville, Maryland in 1990 when his helicopter crashed at Alpine Valley. That ended my Hal Leonard my career.
Stevie ray didn't open for Bowie because of money, Bowie was only going to pay 300 dollars a night .
I saw Stevie twice live once in Ottawa and Tuscon in early mid eighties what I thought he was playing while rolling twirling his guitar on stage was Voodoo Chile Slight Return now I realize it wasn't it was Third Stone From The Sun. He was very influenced by Howling Wolf and Johnny Guitar Watson he might have been with double trouble but he was definitely a triple threat.

You mentioned quite a bit about Tommy Shannon, you mentioned how SRV admired Johnny Winters. However, you failed to mention Tommy played for Johnny Winters for quite a while before rekindling his relationship with SRV many years later. Pretty impressive doc though. I love to see younger generations appreciate the greatness of the past.
Ok, hold the presses here. SRV father might have been drafted into WW2, but he couldn't have been drafted at age 16...minimum draft age was 18.

Let me tell ya'll something as a lifelong guitarist/singer/blues harp/stage performer of many years. I'm speaking from firsthand experience ( and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying the following ): I don't know about nowadays, but years ago, jazz "purist" fans were the biggest snobs in all of music. As many of you know, most music critics absolutely suck...........and the jazz "purist" fans were just like the critics, believing they are better & smarter than everyone else. Can you imagine a juggernaut of a blues act like Stevie Ray & Double Trouble all pumped up & hungry to please fans during that European performance, only to have a bunch of rude, obnoxious, stuck-up, and musically clueless jazz "purist" snobs booing them? What makes this scenario even more pathetic is the fact that the vast majority of those "purist" snobs couldn't play a single chord on any instrument. But every one of those snobs sure love pretending as if they're "wise critics who know good music when they hear it". Kind of reminds me from long ago when virtually every mainstream music critic totally dissed Led Zeppelin. But no matter how scathing the articles were by those clueless critics, THE PEOPLE still loved & bought every Led Zeppelin studio album as they paid the highest cost ever ( up to that point in time ), for concert tickets to see Led Zeppelin..........the critics be damned.
They loved the blues for them it was more about being considered a true real blues guitarist more then anything Steve was massively popular in the Texas rock scene packing shows and huge local rock scenes but Steve wanted be a blues musician and wanted to be considered a true blues guitarist he ended up stopping playing in very popular rock bands to play much less popular blues that maybe quarter of the fans he went from being in the most popular rock bands to strictly playing blues I don't really understand why he wanted to be blues so badly when he had a much better chances and more money playing rock but he became one of the most iconic guitarist of all times so I guess he made the right choice 😅

You also seemed to miss the fact that Stevie played guitar on David Bowie's Lets Dance album. Which if you had done any research, you would know that this was his big break!
It was actually Jimmy who broke his collar bone while playing football. His parents got jim a guitar to keep him from playing football. Stevie then started playing to be like his brother.
Also his career was 7 years signed but he was a paid musician since he was 16.

With no fact checking required. They can just say whatever they feel like saying, with no regard for accuracy. It literally changes history. Because non historians, who want to learn about a historical figure like Stevie, who's no longer with us, find videos like this. Then assume its accurate, when its not. Starting then, every generation that follows, gets a more and more diluted version of the truth. In a hundred years from now, little to no facts will remain about the life of this amazing human being. The historical revision is already well under way, on the life of Elvis. Bowie offered side man money , that was it. There’s definitely two distinct periods of the man’s life before and after his sobriety, and you could say what you want. I wasn’t a fan after the sober thing, baggy suits , bigger arenas. He became another music product . I first saw him at 17 in ‘82 at a club and was blown away, he did the third stone Hendrix number , thrashed , stood on the guitar , and left it just feedbacking on the stage .
