The biggest thing the steam deck has going for it is the same thing Apple has. They control the hardware and software. That is why using a deck will continue to be the best experience.
Almost as much fun as the OG Gameboy (that came packed with Tetris); I had blisters from playing that thing. The OLED SteamDeck is awesome, but not quite as portable. It sure is fun tho!
Sold my PS5 for the Deck OLED back in the fall and it was the best move. Been a console gamer my whole life but my switch showed me just how much I loved handled gaming and the Deck OLED was everything I had wanted the original model to be. It has been such a blast gaming on this and even with some of the horsepower drawbacks, it's been so worth it. It's truly all that I wanted the switch to be and access to older games through steam and not having to worry about needing to go find a PS3 to play some older titles has been the best
I’ve been so close to purchasing it. I’ve been at the payment page at least 3 times the past month, but I’ve chickened out each time. I’m a bit worried that I won’t enjoy it, but so many people have gave great reviews on it. I’ve binge watched the pros and cons. The only thing is that I just created a steam account, so I don’t have any games at the moment, but I have a lot of games in my wishlist (majority verified). I’m thinking of getting the 512gb oled model.
Do it! You’ll 100% find use for it. Even once better tech comes out, you’ll always able to emulate and steam seamlessly to it. There are still more than enough amazing PS4 era games that are playable on it.
Buy one used. Got mine for 200 and at that price it cant be beat. Literally cant build a gaming pc for under 750, 1k if you want it future proofed for 2 years and not bottlenecked.

I think the $400 model is not a bad deal right now, especially considering it's new with a warranty. I just got one for my sister. I couldn't afford the extra 150 for the oled, but helping sell out the remainder of the original Steam decks will contribute to funding a newer one.
i still remember buying it day 1 saying it was the worst purchase of my life. as time went on and compatibility increased and OS updates, this thing is now my go to device. crazy how much it changed in 2 years
I agree, the LCD model is where it's at right now if you're budget conscious. Lots of great deals on a used one. They also improved the display calibration dramatically right before the OLED model came out, so it's not nearly as middling as it used to be.

Great Video and I agree with all your comments. I have an High End PC with a RTX4090 etc which in total cost over £10,000 UK pounds, but I almost always play on the Steam Deck OLED. Don't get me wrong I love my Gaming PC, but sometimes when you aren't concentrating on watching TV, I play on the Steam Deck at the same time. I have created a 1TB SD Micro with EmuDeck and emulated thousands of games and it's awesome. I also have a AYA NEO Pro the 2TB SSD, but I have only spent a few hours on it, it's a great machine but I found using windows difficult on the small screen. I think the Steam Deck OLED is amazing machine, which will appeal to people with little or no PC experience because it's so easy to use.
I just bought (from a private seller) my SD yesterday (512gb, LCD), so I don't have it yet. I'm excited to enter the PC gaming world. Though I am new to everything online gaming wise, as I just got good (fiber) internet out here recently. And I'm not very tech savvy, so I am trying to research and learn. I want to play: Guild Wars 2, Palworld, and Baldur's Gate 3. And possibly Zelda: BOTW and ESO. I'm sure there will be tons of others, as I haven't dug into Steam yet.

Playing Noita on steamdeck was almost impossible until I downloaded a community layout using track pad's, which made the game pleasant to play. Customisation of the controls is wild! Love my new SD.

Had ally and legion go and lcd deck.sold all of them and got oled instead and it’s a day and night difference.the screen and battery is such a huge improvements I can play triple a games with 45 fps cap and usually lasts me for 4 hours while ally barely did 2 hours

I’ll never invest in anything else but SD again, I traded my series X for it and don’t regret it. Plus the portability of it matches my life style more. My S/X was collecting dust for 6months before I got this.
I just ordered a refurb lcd 256gb for 340. I know the oled is better but I don’t have that extra 240 to spend on it. And idk why I didn’t want to order a used one from eBay. Figured going from the source would be a safer bet

I love my Steam Deck, but really do wish we'll see a proper second generation Steam Deck in the near-isch future. I'd love to get just a tad more performance out of it. There are so many games that I'd love to play on my Deck, but which I opt not to play, because of performance reasons.
Might make my steam deck my main pc, and source of entertainment. I bought my steam deck for $300, the 64gb Model, if need be I will upgrade the SSD but having a Microsd card works just as great. I really couldn't believe how good the steam deck is, and how user friendly SteamOS is. I've learned a lot. but yea this is definitely one of the coolest things I've had, its like the same excitement kind of when I was a kid. Not very accurate you information. You can get 2 hours and a half of battery life on AAA lowering tdp and fps, almost 5 hours on indies, I think is pretty good. On the other hand, display on LCD models was dramatically improved. You can get Vibrant deck pluggin, it gets colors way more saturated
I have ROG Ally and 2 steamdecks and the Steam decks great. But I love my ROG Ally. it's amazing. have like 150 games on it and about 100 odd on my steamdeck. Ones 64 gb waiting for me to put the 1 terabyte SSD I swapped out my other deck But both my main ROG Ally and my main Steamdeck have 2 terabyte SSD's but my ROG has a 1 terabyte SD card as well co's it's my favourite. Steamdecks better than it was when i bought it at running games. Like elden ring would never run at high settings on deck at all now it can but low fps. But the ROG I play starfield at 1080p ultra with a mod or without the mod. But slightly better with the mod. And elden ring max settings at 1080p can even use medium and high RT but high is low fps. playable. But I obviously only do that for testing purposes. It's insane the ROG ally Z1 extreme. Plus I have antek addon battery that lets you play at 30 watts mode when out and about so I get like 3 hours plus playing starfield at 30 watts awesome. about 4 to 5 hours using my 2nd SIWIQU battery pack but that runs it at 25 watts. I love the thing..I don't usually need the battery packs though as the RoG battery always lasts long enough for me. It's not much different to steamdeck LCD. In my experience. If you can it's so much better to have a steamdeck and a ROG ally. And a PC But I am a tech nut lol. I really don't know why people moan about battery. You can augment the battery like I have. it's no big deal to have a usb C cable running to a battery pack in your rucksack lol. or next to you on the sofa or bus seat etc. Also I don't bother docking mine as would rather play on my 4k TV at 120 fps lol.
I agree Valve did boost specifically PC handheld market because otherwise mobile gaming is still trust by smartphones and others android devices. Don't forget also Nintendo that would probably outsold any others manufacturers by millions with new switch. Sony and Microsoft might have also an opportunity to jump in this market with their own handheld hardware.
I love my 1 year old lcd steam deck, but over time the right stick began to make some sound and also same with the right bumper, I would like an oled version, but I don't think it's worth it, even consider oled is better in almost everything
We dont need to have controller macros in console It may be good for steam deck with various shoe fit games But console games are controller specific when made with its own custom controls
People please push the trackpads propaganda as much as you can I need them to stay in next Gen deck. Trackpads are so damn amazing I don't use right stick anymore. It took me two weeks to get used to trackpads and set it up right which is a lot of work and need ux improvement but its sooooo good. I think valve had it right with their controller we just refused to try it. I could never play fps games with controller, mouse and keyboard guy. But I don't want to touch gaming on pc anymore, I like the separation work from gaming, so I forced myself to learn how to play on controller again. Count do it with joystick, then I said f it and went to try trackpad. God damn it it's amazing it truly is worth putting extra time to get used to. The thumb angles and what not takes some time but I did it in two weeks with 30-40 min practice before bed and now I use right trackpad for all controls instead of joystick.

Even with the latest stable update, stable mode is still unstable. When it's not crashing it's a great device. Unfortunately it crashes far too often and far too randomly to recommend. So I think a few more years with other leading manufacturers out there and we could see a portable pc gaming device to drool over. The Steam Deck ain't it, though.
I just hate that I cant play Destiny 2 on it and like all my multiplayer games on ST because Anti-cheat. I never saw anything really about that in reviews at the time and im not gunna lie i was really disappointed about it. Besides that its great but that is a big downgrade for me.

The ROG ally only has hall sensors on the triggers. I own an ally and the joysticks are bad and loose. The deck definitely wins with it's inputs.

OLED is king. Almost every issue is improved on it

I just hate that I cant play Destiny 2 on it and like all my multiplayer games on ST because Anti-cheat. I never saw anything really about that in reviews at the time and im not gunna lie i was really disappointed about it. Besides that its great but that is a big downgrade for me.
