Yay congrats on getting an internship. From experience we had people of all ages in our program. Also the individuals that were “older” in internship were seen as more experienced. There has been so many times a client even now will tell me they don’t want to do therapy with me because of my age/ life experience. I think you will be surprised how well you do 😊

You go in at your time. Go through security wait to be called to window that took about 30 mins for us. Then if you’re approved they give you a time to come back. Ours was at 1PM then I waited about 2-3 hours to get the passport

The masters program you need every part of it. About a year and a half if classes after that you have less classes and internship. The bachelors degree for me was also important because it taught be how to balance school work and prepped me for the higher level of learning on the masters level.

Hi, first thing from experience what I would do is try to find a private practice where you are a independent contractor. You can make your schedule and add in people when you want. I worked at a rehab and what they paid was 1/3 of what I get paid now. Every position description I’ve seen for “agency” work is part time or full time. I’m sure you could do part time but I don’t think it’s worth the $ unless $ is not your number one priority.

Also getting into an agency sounds more complicated then being a independent contractor

I would absolutely love to get my own private practice but I guess I was always under the impression that I'd need to get some experience with an agency before starting a private practice. One thing that would be a tad intimidating is the marketing aspect and how much work would be put into that. Did you go into private right off the bat and how was the process? Thank you so much for helping by the way!

@ I’m not talking about a private practice. Clinics will hire you as a independent contractor , give you clients and you tell them how much you wanna work

Online. We had residency in person 2 times a year for a weekend but that’s it. Online is the way to go for most grad students. There would be too many things to lecture on. We had a discussion board each week per class and some other thing to do. Not a lot of papers. It was not bad, I can’t say it was hard. The time commitment was the hard part for the internship part. I could imagine going on campus for classes, going to internship, working and having a life … that would be a lot

Masters to get licensed as a LMHC

I told talk about the location of my school. I kept that private throughout my experience

I always say if I could do it again I would go for the PsyD. What are your goal? Do you have the time? The masters is great I am happy with it can’t complain but a PsyD would be cool and open more doors

@ my goal in general is just counseling however I would love to be a psychologist one day and psyd and PhD is the highest one can go. I could go masters level social work or CMHC then PsyD or just go PsyD

@ just not sure how ready I am for a PsyD counseling degree I have an undergrad psychology degree with 3.4 gpa and volunteer, practicum and solid letters of recommendation just didn’t do any research and wasn’t very good in research methods and stats

The only thing that worked for me was continuously checking in with myself and seeing what days I needed to relax and what days I needed to get things done. Take it day by day don’t stress about things that are not happening in the moment. Also u would always think this isn’t forever and I will get through it even thought it may seem like a lot now :)

Hi! Didn’t have an office, I was a bartender that went to grad school with a toddler at home 🫠 This experience was from me being a student not a professional 😀

The office I had in practicum I was not able to film at the facility. I worked at a rehab for substance abuse

Hi! I’ve been a bartender since 2011. I worked 4-5 night throughout school/ grad school. Did internship M-W-Fri 830-1. It’s possible :)
