I am just entering into my practicum program. I am excited to gain experience and necessary training. Thank you for sharing your experience and pointers. Congrats and I pray your journey will be successful!
I’m about to start my internship 2 and I plan to graduate this May. I understand about wanting a break. I’ve been working during grad school and all the assignments are a lot. I plan to graduate and then take a break to study for the NCE. I plan to like you said take a break to focus, study, and enjoy the small things. It’s definitely about finding a good balance! Great video!
Thank you so much for the kind words. Speaking of the test I need to look at my study guide and start practicing. I plan to take my test in late spring early summer this year. I think taking some time to slow down is so important.
I just finished practicum and I’m excited for winter break! Practicum was rough with a full time job. I know that internship is even more busy, so I will enjoy my rest! It is rough, but worth it. I enjoyed seeing my very own clients for the first time!
That’s amazing. I know what you mean I worked the whole time too. What I did is geared up for the next 2 semesters after practicum and told myself it’s only 8 months of this and than I’m done. How was it having your own clients? Keep me updated.
This was very helpful. I'm currently about a year away from Practicum and Internship and there have been times I've debated if this was the right path for me. It's reassuring to hear that these thoughts are normal and okay.
Finally done with practicum and am so excited to finish internship and be done! Your videos have given me so much insight and guidance and your post-grad videos are super helpful for planning purposes as well ☺️
@@kdcounselingit was great overall! I did end up quitting my full time job to now do school and internship full time . But I really love private practice and seeing clients has been so awesome and satisfying
Thanks for your honest feelings!!! I am a current Psych undergrad who is also in the Accelerated Masters Program at my school. I will graduate in May with my bachelor’s and 12 grad credit hours, and then will officially start grad school that next week 😳 I’m so used to it by now, but I see your point about the luxury of not having a school schedule and complete control over your time. Your videos have helped tremendously as I’ve been trucking along and will continue to truck along in grad school!
That’s awesome. When your in it, it doesn’t feel that bad because you have a end goal. Once you get some free time it’s annoying to get back to being super busy. At least it was for me. It took me a few weeks to get out of the funk
I am 7 months away from practicum.. the high achiever in me has been cutting back . Grad school is tiring. I thought about taking a break after I graduate in two years. For me I haven’t worked in 10 years..right now I am feeling 50/50. We had a month off for christmas break all I did was sleep. I understand. If you need the break take it.
I definitely think everyone is different. People need to do what works best for them. If you need the break take it. I think there is a balance in how many clients you can work with as well so maybe without school the work won’t be as hard the work will replace your school work
I start back up on Tuesday for my new semester and I appreciate your thoughts! I have asked myself several times this past semester if im cut out for this, can I do this, and i am glad to know these thoughts are normal. It was definitely what i needed to hear as I start my second semester of clinical counseling 🙏
Do you happen to know how hard it is to get a job as a counselor now days or in the next few years (assuming you're qualified)? I know employment struggles are all over the news but no sure if clinical mental health counselors are included in that bunch.
I think it’s pretty easy to be honest. If you have the license they are hiring everywhere. In most private practices it’s up to you to build connections with clients or if you’re in a company they assign people to you..
@@kdcounseling Thanks for the reply. You're awesome. Also, do you know if it's frowned upon to not be employed by a job unrelated to the field while you're focusing on the intern, practicum and courses? I recently just resigned from my previous job to focus on school an take care of our 3 month old.
@@kdcounseling right, I just meant does it look bad that it shows that one was unemployed during school/program/intern? Like if the unemployment gap looks bad while trying to get a job as a counselor?
The way my program worked the internship portion had to be done over 3 semesters. You couldn’t fit in all the hours in a summer, that’s just how my school did it. I would recommend doing it straight through. I did it while working it can be done. I went 3 days a week for like 3-5 hours it wasn’t that much honestly. I did get a lot of hours for prepping and writing notes.
Hi This is shaik ismail I got admission LIU n mental health counselling for spring intake. I need to know about the carrer opportunities after completing of my course. It’s will be helpfull for me in future ? Please help me with this.

See that report that only 43 percent of graduates get to licensure. Pay needs to be better for interns and students
What report is that? I would be curious to read it.
I also saw it on my yt recommended.
I’ve heard this too!

Hi! I don’t share that on TH-cam for privacy reasons but I can help you out if you want to DM me on instagram
