Blue Nile Farm channel is committed to educate and entertain individuals in different methods of farming and daily life discussing/using different tools, equipment, and methods. We are a horse boarding facility which is also involved in different farming income streams. These additional income streams include hay production and harvesting; rebaling round bales into square bales; firewood production and land clearing; compost and topsoil production; and custom excavation work. We perform various maintenance programs with our equipment and use various tools. After years of experience, we would like to pass on some tips and tricks to solve some daily questions for both the farming and suburban communities.
Standing Water in Hay Fields May Stop Hay Production
Excessive rain in northeastern Ohio has flooded fields leaving large amounts of standing water. This is causing a problem with hay production making dry hay. The dilemma of cutting vs waiting is on my mind. What is the best course of action is discussed in the video.

The Tedder - Important Hay Baling Equipment and How to Use It
มุมมอง 476วันที่ผ่านมา
This video shows how to use a Tedder and important criteria I believe should be considered when purchasing one. It is an important piece of hay equipment. In my area, a Tedder is essential in the hay drying process. It can be used numerous times on grass hay with little damage to the crop. The Tedder spreads the hay allowing it to dry easier. If hay gets rained on, it allows the operator to get...
Mud Control Using Wood Chips Spread Using SR3 Landscaping Rake and Skid Steer In Throw-Away Pasture
มุมมอง 151วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video, I discuss how I deal with mud in pastures to reduce mud fever on horses during fall through beginning of summer using wood chips. Wood chips are dumped and spread using the SR3 landscape rake by ABI Attachments with a self-leveling blade and a skid steer. The SR3 landscape rake on a skid steer is a great tool to push and level wood chips. Although other attachments may work, the ...
Using Front and Rear Bale Spear to Gather Round Bales from the Hay Field
มุมมอง 14314 วันที่ผ่านมา
The video discusses the selection and use of both front and rear bale spears. I demonstrate the use and benefits of the hydraulic top link with the rear spear. Using the bale spears to gather hay is essential to hay production. Most small farmers rely on this equipment in hay production and livestock feeding. #roundbales #hay #tractorattachments
Removing Grass From Any Gravel Driveway Without Chemicals Using the TR3 Rake and a Tractor
มุมมอง 132K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Getting rid of grass on a gravel driveway is very easy using the TR3 by ABI Attachments. Using a tractor to pull it and a hydraulic top link you can quickly transform the driveway back to gravel. Once you learn to setup the TR3 you just need to make passes and alter your course to work on the driveway. This video shows how it's done and some tricks in how to set it up.

They make display that goes behind there and it Graves it out as you dig it up, those things were great.
I would be introducing grass to my driveways not removing it. Vegetation will hold the stones and dirt in place.
I understand your logic. All depends on what you want.
Can you give some more details on the TR3 - like who makes it? Do they have a website etc? - I'd like to have a better understanding of how it works. Nice job by the way.
Made by ABI Attachments. They have a website. I have several other videos on my channel and on a playlist going over both the TR3 and SR3. Check them out. Thanks for compliment.
I have a grooved driveway. No tractor, no attachments. 😢
If it's working for you then no worries.
I have several sections of railroad track that are bolted to 2X12s. I have four that are chained together in a chevron fashion. Once’s or twice a year I pull them along all my roads and trains. Works like a champ
If it works then it's a win. That's all that matters.
How do you blow another dude?
Just about everybody has a water softener, so all you have to do is collect the brine that is discharged from your water softener, take that Brine and spread it to soak the road and nothing will ever grow there. If next year something does start to grow again, soak it with more brine!
Good idea. Thanks
Round up and 2-4D always works for me
Can't argue with that. Got to stop it from growing.
Why can't you just mow the grass with geese, leave it alone. All you succeeded in doing is create a barren dusty track. Its dumb.
I will do without the geese. Thanks
Something I've noticed is that adding gypsum (Calcium Sulphates) and/or anhydrite to gravel arrests most plant growth. Locally to me are closed open pit mines from the 1960's which are still free of grass in 2024 except where inches to feet of clay soil were added. Away from the gypsum everything grows as normal if not better!
That's interesting. I am gonna look into that. Thank you.
Great video. Thanks!
Thank You!!!
Nice demonstration. I checked out your profile and it looks like you've created some good content. I subscribed and will watch more as time permits.
Thanks I appreciate it. Hopefully you will enjoy it and get something positive from it.
I can’t grow grass on my lawn, hard to see grass growing on a driveway🤯
It's kinda like as you get older, hair grows in places you don't want.
My driveway is 25 feet long, I don't have a tractor. How do I get the weeds and grass out of my driveway?
There is probably someone in your area that has the equipment to do it for a fee. Might be your best option. Gravel drives are constant maintenance. That's the catch. Just a thought. Good luck.
You can also spray with vinegar or a bleach solution for a relatively safe herbicide.
@@user-nl9xt9ww4f Thanks, I've tried vinegar and dish soap...doesn't work all that well.
I have built a grader from heavy gauge pipe attached to 3 ×2 foot wide steel plate 1 inch thick and mounted it to my lawn tractor it works great on my driveway or for level ground
Having a tool that you can rely on is all that counts. Makes life a lot easier.
Where are you that you are still wearing a sweater in June? :-)
Northern Ohio. It was a 50 degree morning in the beginning of June when I made this video. We had a cold front. The hoody was not on for very long. You're the second person who asked this. It isn't always warm and sunny in the mornings or late at night where I live. I wish it was.
Probably Ohio. We only have 2 and a half months of Summer. Summer here begins late June and ends middle of September. Rest of the year is cold, wind, rain & snow or ice. I live by Lake Erie
Good job. Wish I had some money to spare. Maybe I can find something to rent.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
I use a old drag that was built a long time ago. But I have a small drive.
Got to use what ever it takes to get the job done.
a little history behind them Star or rotary tedders a farmer in Germany invented it in the late 1950s and the first company to bring it into serial production was FAHR of Gottmadingen Germany
Thanks for the information
wait
Totally agree. Thanks
how do you rebale? were just a small farmer 60 acers of hay selling small squares but rounds are so much faster.
Checkout my rebaling series on my channel. I explain it in detail. Should answer all you questions if you watch the series.
Goats!
Lol. I don't know about that one!
I use chemicals.
I think the combination of this tool and chemicals is the ticket. If no chemicals you'll need to go over it a lot because they will keep coming back. That's just how it goes. Thanks for the input.
I know two kinds of farmers: those with machines like these, and those who regret buying a sickle bar.
We all start somewhere. I started with a drum mower then got the disc mower conditioner. All about acres and time. Time is my problem. Plus the more acres the quicker you need to get it done.
Why do you have a coat on in 90 degree weather?
Wasn't 90 degrees that morning. That was just before the heat wave.
I bought a set of used 8 foot disc's for $400 and used them on my back lane and it looks the same as what that machine did. Then I just back dragged it with my loader. I don't have the money to afford an awesome unit like this, because our dictator Trudeau has taxed the hell out of all us Canadians.
When are you making a change over there? If we don't we will be like you guys. I am hope we change. It can't be soon enough.
We never use the tapered swage spears on Cab tractors.... Should the Nut securing the spear break off the end of the spear it could take out the front cab glass.... We purchased some German Forged spears that are secured in the sleeve with a thru bolt... We use the nut secured spears on open station machines... Our Gooseneck trailer can carry 25 to 28 4x5 bales, the OtR flat beds almost 30..... So we arrainge the bales in groups of 25 to 30 bales....
I had a close call once when a piece broke and hit the top of the cab. I usually only break a spear with the skid steer either by pushing down or slide one too hard. I am not nearly as big as you guys. I haul 17 4x4s in a tripod at a time. So 17 or bigger piles are made. Eventually I will get a bigger rig. Unfortunately getting in some fields are already tough. What brand of spears are you using and rough price?
We got ourSpears and sleeves from Skid Steer Attachments in Neb. My Son Bought 12 and I think were about $1600, 00 They are German Forged....
I am gonna have to check those out. Thanks. I like looking into new things and ideas from more experienced people like yourself.
Thanks for the Compliment, But we were turned on to the Thru-Bolt spears by a Close Friend who almost had a Cab windshield taken out by the Swage spear nut..... A loader we bought piece-meal and installed on one of our 5115 Ms had a Global attachment hookup, and all the bale spears we had were with the Deere 500 attaching points so we had to buy a spear with a Global attachment and it had a thru-bolt spear...
That is too cool. Driveway and runoff ditch maintenance is a nightmare.
I totally agree
I wonder if I could use my pirana blade on my deere 420 garden tractor l. I have a spot by my house in town by the main road. Thanks
If that blade is what I believe a serrated edge on a bucket it may skim the surface but not get you the results your looking for. If the material is loose you may drag it and if it's too hard you won't get penetration. You can try and see. You have nothing to lose. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
We will buddy
Sorry no kabotas for me thanks for the video though 😁😁😁😁
That's ok. Thanks for watching. Keep watching more.
You can do the same thing with a box blade
To some degree but in fairness these are two different attachments. I started with a box scrapper and found this TR3 does a little bit more for my needs. I still own my box scraper but never use it. I did a lot with my box scraper. It took a beating. Thanks for your input.
Doesn’t the wheel height set the height right as opposed to raising the top link? Good video. I love the TR3 as well as the SR3 for my skidsteer. I got the TR3 because I was tired of driving backwards for my very long driveway and other roads.
I find that the wheels help with depth control or you offset each side if you were to make a crown in the driveway. The hydraulic top link controls the angle of the comb, scar fires, and floating leveling blade quickly from the cab. Once you're in the right position you won't need to mess with it unless you change what you doing. If you don't have one for your tractor you should get one. Works great on many pieces of equipment besides the TR3. You won't ever use the manual top link again. Thanks for the input.
How important is the hydraulic top link? Would a landscape rake do something similar?
I think that the hydraulic top link works on many pieces of equipment. That's all I use. Great for rotary mowers, tillers, box scrapers, etc. one you have one you'll never use the manual one. The TR3 is always an adjustment game depending on what your doing so the hydraulic top link is the way to go. If your referring to a landscape rake is the one with all the tines it would scratch the surface and rip out some grass but would not have any penetration into a hard surface or and depth. It would move around loose gravel and level is where they shine. I hope I answered your questions. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. I didn’t know there were those big rippers on the front of it until I watched another one of your videos. I think I’d be a little afraid to use that on my driveway because there is landscape fabric beneath the gravel. Thanks for the video!
@@nates2526 I have fabric on my drive. Just don't need to go too deep. That's the trick
Need tool!, i like having gates let sheep/cow eat all grass they can..less mowing/ work for me 😂
I agree with that!!!
Super nice attachment. Would like to see the track loader one also for myself. Just got a t62 so this would be a great tool to have. Thanks for show and demonstration!! Dave.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.
I just use my landscape rake
I used to do the same along with a box scraper.
Never really seen an attachment like that. Works fantastic.
It can do lots of stuff. Makes it very versatile.
That worked really good. I need to win the lottery.
It's not that bad. Lol
@@BradKemp62 Lol, it really did work good.
@dammitbobby283 buy a welder and start saving metals you can build whatever you need .If I can do it, anyone can . You never know what you can do if you never try 😊
Good video! Good info. thanks
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Good post, good review!
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Never understood why some people are gate neglegent. Is it really that hard to close it behind you ? And make sure it’s latched ? It takes just seconds to make sure and prevent a lifetime of regret.
It's easy to forget or get your mind on something else. You really need to think about this when leaving a gated area. I have so much going all the time it's easy to forget. I let 20 horses out by accident. It was awful. I never forgot that experience and I think about it all the time. That's why I made the video.
@@BradKemp62 omgosh, I wasn’t meaning to fire on you. Honestly I while typing I had my own experience with this kind of thing going thru my mind. It happens daily. I no longer have horses or dogs to worry about getting out anymore , it’s what or who that might get in thru an open gate that I worry about.
It's all good.
I Love my TR3!!! Thanx for posting video!
I figured you would like it. Lol. I got more coming.
@@BradKemp62I can’t wait! I need to drop some more myself
You know what makes sense. Not only do I go out and get really really hot but then when the bugs start biting and stinging, yes it pretty much sets me off too. Really good idea and it's nice to see that you care for your animals enough to the extra work to make them safe.
Thank you. We try. Part of animal ownership in my opinion.
@@BradKemp62 My son works for a lady named Shelby here in Danville Indiana. She is the only one in all my yrs of being involved with horses who pastures her horses in training(or not in training) during the "dark hours". Kudos!!
Good video! I think this convinced me to invest in a set for mine. Don’t hardly do any dark driving, but it would look so much better than the original yellowed lights. Drove it in the dark once and it was scary because I could hardly see.
Thanks. I bought a pair of headlight assemblies from Raneys. You won't regret it. I like night driving now. Not being able to see is no fun.
Wahooooooooo.....😂
So you say. Lol
Just bought it from HF for $15 today with a coupon they have for it. It’s great.
You will find a lot of uses for it.
I go along with every comment u made except the TR3 not having Hydraulic scarifiers. They make the same unit like the SR3 but for the tractor called the TR3 Command series. It has the hydraulics for the scarifiers and the leveling blade is hinged. Unfortunately they don’t make it for the smaller units under 8ft. My 5.5ft model cost about $5.5k delivered. Expensive and very rare to find used but I do see them from time to time on FB Marketplace. Sold my TR3e there for $1900
I thought they did make one. Once I got the SR3 I figured why bother. Plus I am sure it's pretty pricey. For what I paid for my two TR3's used I will put the effort to manually adjust the scarfiers. LOL. Thanks for the input!!
Any time I see the TR3 (or SR3) I give a Thumbs Up regardless! No Bad videos with that implement!
I agree. They work nice and are pretty versatile.
