We never use the tapered swage spears on Cab tractors.... Should the Nut securing the spear break off the end of the spear it could take out the front cab glass.... We purchased some German Forged spears that are secured in the sleeve with a thru bolt... We use the nut secured spears on open station machines... Our Gooseneck trailer can carry 25 to 28 4x5 bales, the OtR flat beds almost 30..... So we arrainge the bales in groups of 25 to 30 bales....

I had a close call once when a piece broke and hit the top of the cab. I usually only break a spear with the skid steer either by pushing down or slide one too hard. I am not nearly as big as you guys. I haul 17 4x4s in a tripod at a time. So 17 or bigger piles are made. Eventually I will get a bigger rig. Unfortunately getting in some fields are already tough. What brand of spears are you using and rough price?

Thanks for the Compliment, But we were turned on to the Thru-Bolt spears by a Close Friend who almost had a Cab windshield taken out by the Swage spear nut..... A loader we bought piece-meal and installed on one of our 5115 Ms had a Global attachment hookup, and all the bale spears we had were with the Deere 500 attaching points so we had to buy a spear with a Global attachment and it had a thru-bolt spear...

From the looks of your rear spear they are constructed by the same company...... I have become very very good at stabbing bales with the rear spear, by using the inside rear view mirror in finding the spear point and aligning it with the center of the bale while still backing up ..... In the Army I operated a Hough Wheel loader and the best way to road it was in reverse so I got pretty good at steering it at 25 mph in reverse..... My time on spearing with rear spear is way under 30 seconds,,,, in 7 years Ive probably moved 10,000 bales!!!
