    Cheers for getting these videos up, it's a massive help for us newer hunters. Really look forward to any new videos you bring out, specifically more footage of bush stalking and tips on when and how close to sneak in when you hear something. Hope 2024 is treating you well. Cheers!

    Nice video Steve! You raise some great points. There’s no doubt 1080 and IR night vision used in the farm edges are major contributors to the decline of the sika herd! Keep it up Steve!👍👍👍

    • @Woodsmanhuntingfishing
      @Woodsmanhuntingfishing ปีที่แล้ว

      Day time hahah,, i "try" to get out early as hunting pressure in some areas has coursed roaring to slow up or stop during the day, so getting up early listening on a high ridge does help, or i stay out after dark listening as many times stags will start up just on dark,, next day you no where your heading,,

  • @bradholschier3908
    @bradholschier3908 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cheers for the vid Steve, always look forward to seeing how you got on. Hey when you mentioned at start of vid 5 stags to 1 hind and lack of roaring, i would've thought the opposite as more competition for that cycling hind meaning more roaring action. Would that not be the case?

    • @Woodsmanhuntingfishing
      @Woodsmanhuntingfishing ปีที่แล้ว

      Sika are known to roar more vigorously when a hind comes on heat, with the hind going off heat the roaring drops right off until another hind comes on, hence why one area has no roaring but travel to anther valley system & its going off,, why? "a hind is cycling" Over 35 years hunting & living with these deer you get a good pitcher of how it all works, Imagine a 5km square of land with one hind, what will your April roar be like? 3 days roaring action, 5 hinds great, 10 hinds & the place will go nuts all of April,

    Hey Steve, do you guys have a theory on why that area you mention mainly has 6’s? Curious to know why?

    • @Woodsmanhuntingfishing
      @Woodsmanhuntingfishing ปีที่แล้ว

      There's always been more 6s in that area for a long time so they get to breed with the hinds so influences the future, it needs a couple big dominate 8s to get in there,, but if there's none round the birth of 6s will continue to dominate,

    • @cameronshaw1049
      @cameronshaw1049 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @mattrice2343
    @mattrice2343 ปีที่แล้ว

    I get your points, specific to the area you hunt. I agree with WildNZ comment - the message as I've understood it from such organisations is site specific. E.g. remote areas only accessible by helicopter, not to mention the remote zone where it has been evidently shown animals are in poor condition, barren hinds etc. The effect of 1080 is also so variable depending on the site and conditions at the time of dropping. E.g. both Ahimanawa drops seemed to have had no impact on deer numbers. I certainly don't agree with 1080, just pointing out we should take each site individually. I do feel the stags get a hard time, with electronic callers etc. nowadays it seems the Sika roar is very busy! Just got back from a trip and it just seemed there was such a high number of hinds to stags. Very little roaring, although end of April..? Hope more and more hunters think about the type of stag they are shooting as you point out, cheers
