My father got a shoal in the Grey river under the Cobden bridge in the 1960's which was more than 200lbs. It was so big it stopped the large scoop net dead in the water.
I do love the honesty of your videos im trying the same thing on my channel. If we are honest and can show good numbers it shows people that there are still plenty of bait hard luck on the good bank spot you lost you can't register new stands in southland any more good luck with this season
Love the way you were set up mate, but still don't understand why you had to move when that cheeky bugger before you should not have been there knowing you were already set up or was he the respectable metres away as the regs say one should be. If people can do this without a care in the wold for their nabours there surely are going to be a few blues coming.
Nice work, so you have two styles of socknet a low one and a deeper one? that you use depending on the location? No searun trout photo's this year? did you get any goodies?
No,, due to covid lock downs and fuel price its not worth the huge expense to travel to the lovely west coast just for a few bait,, sad but true,, all up round figures $2,000 Ferry fuel food beers for 5 weeks,, there is the chance i catch nothing & return home out of pocket 2,000,, Great memory's but just not worth it,,,
I fished 5 weeks out of the 10 permitted, sold most of my catch to a local legit bait buying firm in hasst to cover my costs of the trip, the bait goes to our local new zealand markets for kiwis to buy if they cant get down south and do it them selves, worked out to round 2.8kg catch per day while i was there..
Good to share your love of the outdoors, but with respect to whitebait your 20 kg catch shown at the beginning is plenty for a season's catch for one person. Continuing to catch more over the next few weeks and sell it is just greedy and a means to subsidise your outdoor lifestyle. We can all take the higher ground by exercising voluntary restraint in harvesting whitebait to conserve stocks and more equitably share the catch among participants in the fishery until a Government finally has the balls to impose daily and season catch limits and legislates against sale of these iconic fish, except perhaps by limited licensed fishers in a few, tightly controlled, fisheries where stocks appear robust.
I only fished 5 weeks out of the 10 to leave plenty for others and breeding,, sold to the local legit fisheries buyer to pay for my trip, that bait goes to NZ markets for others to enjoy that cant get there own, ie: Auckland Christchurch etc etc & i agree it does need tighten up on the rules,, that has begun this year,,
@@Woodsmanhuntingfishing dunno about these new rule changes, the season finished last week but there’s still people out baiting every where with their dodgy permits from the local marae!
He was a white bait stand round 800m away from me, from 1st September they have 14 days to apply to move if they want, he saw my video from the year prior plus herd i was getting bait there, so on day 13 he just moved in!! I could have contested it with fisheries but the drama, i cant be bothered with that so i just moved, pig headed thing of him to do aye!!!!!! Start of the season i found that spot well away from any one, closes other fisherman to me was 300m away & that's what i got,,, cheers
Sure bloody was a good day & trip, a white bait stand got 146kg the same day, plus all the other fisher people on that day, hmmm could of been 300kg taken that one day,,, hmmm then you catch squat for the next 10 days,, then it rains & floods for a week no fishing, then the sand flies some how seem to get thicker & black out the sun, again no fishing,, after 5 weeks the sky clears & the river levels drop & its time to go home,, average catch per day 2.2kg or there close to,, do you go bait fishing? hope you do ok,,,
Cool video mate watching from Perth, makes me miss Aotearoa

Covid lock downs and the fuel price have played a big part,, maybe next year,,
I don't understand why you had to move from your first spot after someone else decided they needed more then you.
