Salomon Thundercross: The best Daily Trainer for the Trails?
Hi, where did you get those for 35€ ? (I live close to where you are and would buy them immediately for this price)
This was Vinted, so slightly used. Don't think you'll find them new for that price, Sorry.
Where do you run? It’s such a beautiful setting
This was Luxembourg City. Always something cool to see there:)
r u forefoot or midfoot striker? if ur a cadence runner, would u kno whats a good marathon shoe for stride runners?
I strike Forefoot. Honestly, I wouldn't read too much into the terms Stride or Cadence Runner. I think there's a lot more to it. Even a lot of supposed Stride Runners prefer the Metaspeed Sky for instance and something like the Vaporfly 2 seems to work for most runners as well.
@@robin29991 true, but isnt sky for stride runners and edge for cadence, so it makes stride runners prefer sky lol
If this shoe is good enough for Jakob and Robin then it's good enough for me 😂
Yeah, interesting he uses a 'Stability' Shoe, isn't it? But this is a very solid Daily Trainer just for doing the mileage. Well worth consideration!
Hoka Mach X 2 or Nike Fly 6 ?
Actually have a video on this planned. Summary is basically, both are great shoes and you can't go wrong. I think the Mach X2 is more bouncy and more cushioned. Zoom Fly 6 feels a little more traditional. The heel lock on the Mach X2 is bad.
Did you have any issues with the upper separating from the midsole. Not from the stitching within the shoe but the glue not holding? I got my pair and the upper and glue separated just trying them on. They’re the right size and I have a narrow foot.
@@thebullfighter6733 Oh dear, that doesn't sound good. No, I can't say I've had any issues there. But I haven't run in the shoe since filming this video.
I feel exactly the same way buddy, such an insanely good shoe! I’m scared for the 2 haha!
So good, it almost felt wasted on a Training Session. We'll see about the v2 I guess. Fingers crossed, Saucony knows what they're doing.
I couldn't agree with you more about the Metaspeed Sky+. Fantastic shoe. No bells and whistles. Simple well made construction that provides excellent performance. And so much better when you pick it up on the cheap! I'm glad you are enjoying the shoes. The content on your channel is excellent. Always nice to see different parts of the world in these vlogs and I enjoy your editing style. Great stuff. 👍
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoy these little Vlogs. Sort or debating getting the Sky Paris after all. Very excited about the Endorphin Elite 2 but if that shoe really is as soft as everyone says, it might not be for me.
No singlet and no gusset. Oh dear :) Looks nice place for some intervals. There is never anybody else around in your videos. Is it really that the case?
Yeah, you know the shoe is bad when there is no gusseted tongue!;) This is my favorite spot to do a Session or Longrun: It's a completely flat Cycling Trail in Luxembourg City that goes for 7k - so 14k out and back. Very peaceful as you've noticed. But a lot of Cyclists and Runners on weekends!
Absolutely loved the v1 (600k). Lockdown and fit one of the best for a supershoe and very durable. Very aggresive ride but was fun, snappy and fast. Skipped the v2 but will probably getting the v3.
This is the first one of the series I've tried. That v3(Paris) does look pretty amazing. From what I've seen, it's a similar ride to this one but considerably lighter.
sucks that i missed out on the peak vaporflies! streakfly 2 seems intriguing tho! for all ur runs do u always take a train to a nice area? how long does the journey usually take from leaving house to getting to destination to run at? is train a lot more convenient than just driving?
You can always look around for a Vaporfly 2 on StockX or Vinted or whatever. Might even get a very good deal. It depends on work schedule. But this was a Sunday so took the train. Sometimes I drive but all these spots are pretty close together really.
@@robin29991 too pricey it seems! and im very fussy with how shoes fit so i always wna try my sizes US 10/10.5 so too much of a hassle anyways i think i read sumwhere here u said the alphaflys are the more 'safe' and comfortable supertrainer and vaporflys was the more aggressive one. if thats the case whys the PB's from kipchoge and kiptum in the alphaflies and not vaporflys? ofc theres preferences but it just sounds like the more aggressive one should have the PB's also if u dont mind what does ur running schedule look like? like do u run every single day and how much KM's a week?
Oh, okay, makes sense. The Vaporfly is more aggressive in feel but not any faster or slower. The Alphafly has a lot more cushion. Just a question of which one works better for you and what you prefer. Clearly works well for Kipchoge or Chepngetich. Currently averaging about 110km/week over the winter and complete Rest Days not really... I'll take one here or there when I feel like it but typically like to run every day.
@@robin29991 how much km do u run on ur easy days/tempos/intervals/daily mileage days/long runs usually?? and wats ur shoe of choice for the recovery days for when ur legs/feet feel beat up?
No more than 90min(about 20km) for Longruns right now and most easy Runs are 45-60min, so no more than 12-13km. Double on Tuesday and Friday if I can make it.
I am a heel striker and slow runner.. I have both the Sky Plus and Edge Plus. Much prefer the Edge Plus as I find like the Sky Plus has a bump in the front I need to go over.. Good for max effort runs only..
That's interesting for sure. I've always been a bit confused by the whole Sky and Edge differentiation. On TH-cam, it seems like most people prefer the Sky so that's what I went with.
WTF 😂😂😂
@@larsmller4929 ?
Nice channel. Subscribed. Useful shoe reviews
Thanks!!
Finally found someone who has the same take on these shoes. The midfoot feels great but the heel blister issue is very frustrating.
Yeah, I think a potential v2 with a better fitting upper and some heel cushion would seriously improve this shoe.
What daily trainer and race day shoe(s) do you recommend for someone 6’1 235lbs. Crossed over from the bodybuilding world.
Hard to say of course in my case! But maybe look at the Adios Pro 3 as a Racer? It's very stable and quite firm so you won't be bottoming it out. As a Trainer do you just mean a standard Daily Trainer/Easy Run Shoe? In that case, I think you can never go wrong with something like a Pegasus/Brooks Ghost/ Cumulus.
@@robin29991 I appreciate your response. As a daily trainer I currently have the Nike invincible 3 but I wanted to try out another brand. I’ll take a look into options you provided. I’ve heard good things about the adidas Boston 12, adidas sl2, ASICS superblast 2 etc. as you know there are way too many options lol. I’m no running expert so that’s why I always differ to runners such as yourself.
Oh, okay, the Invincible is of course really soft and squishy! The Pegasus 41 is a much more 'normal' shoe.
@@robin29991 thank you for this!
I'm convinced that Zoom X was way way better back in the Vaporfly 4% days (and less durable)
@@guiibogar Yeah, I think it really started changing for the worse sometime between the Next% v1 and 2.
Sandweiler seems like a very quiet place.
On a Sunday, Yes. But this was mostly the industrial area which is of course pretty busy on weekdays.
Totally agree with your conclusion... regression of VF. In 2019, I ran my PB 2:49.01 with the VF knit OG and bought 3 pairs during that era. Alas, the QC was terrible, each pair barely last me close to 100+km (high humidity here in Asia) and delamination was a major problem. How I wish Nike now could reuse the OG's tooling and method to remake the VF GOAT again, just fine tune its QC in glueing and durability.
Interesting about the delamination in higher humidities! My 4% didn't last very long either, but for me it was the outsole and exposed foam shredding away. Don't know if you've seen some photos of the upcoming Streakfly 2 by any chance. But that shoe might be what we're looking for. It looks like it has some sort of plate unlike the first one with its plastic shank.
I disagree. I have both the Vaporfly 3 and 2, and will choose comfort over the distance. The VF2 was harder on my feet. Tried the Adios pro 3 but not as fast as the VFs for me. Ce la vie l.
Yeah, that's totally valid! Comfort is often a very individual perception and what you're used to, especially over longer distances. I remember running a Marathon in a Saucony Kinvara 9 back in the day and that feels like a Barefoot Shoe nowadays compared to the Vaporfly 2 haha. Agree on the Adios Pro 3: A pretty bulky and kind of heavy shoe compared to the Vaporfly.
This guy talks like a robot, he might be, I love the videos.. all the best and respect… runners 4 ever!
Thanks mate. You're lighting up my 1's and 0's with your comment 😃
Absolutely loved the v1 and was my first supershoe (800km) used for everything! So fast, fun, bouncy and snappy, a total game changer and the original supershoe. V2 however was not as bouncy, upper fit and lockdown was terrible and retired after 100 miles as same issue as you, outsole was torn to shreds as a heavy forefoot striker, especially on my right. V3 however was a mix between the v1 and v2. Still as fast and bouncy as v1 but not as aggressive or snappy. Upper, fit and lockdwon however is the best in all of the versions for me. However the biggest issue for me is the outsole, like you said, there's holes now in the forefoot which makes it even worse for small stones to penerate! I exclusively use mine now in dry weather in great tarmac or on the track.
I totally agree with the v2 not being the same as the v1 overall. Actually had a section in the video but decided to cut it out as it was getting a bit too lenghty and complicated haha! I had 5 pairs of them and the funny thing is, they all feel a bit different to one another. Some are close to the v1 and some others are quite firm. Might be different factories getting different flavors of ZoomX. Interesting you find the v3 upper the best - It's actually the worst for me! But this is so personal and really depends on foot shape. The Vaporweave in the v1 was the best for me.
Thank you for the review! I am running in the same valley in Luxembourg, which running watch are you using? My old Garmin and new Wahoo watches seem to have issues correctly tracking my runs in the valley. Thanks!
The Alzette Cycling Trail is just the best:) I use a Garmin Forerunner 255. This model introduced the Multiband GPS and that's been a real Gamechanger for me in GPS accuracy.
Totally agree… the model is losing its way a bit sadly
It's moved a bit too close to the Alphafly for me. I hope the v4 can bring the aggressiveness back.
It's a bit cold but still in a singlet :) I think you are right about the VF3. I only have one pair but got them past 200 miles with no real outsole problems unlike many have seen. Think the 2mm extra of foam made them feel a bit different. Initially the upper was a very poor fit for me with too much volume but managed to adapt it fine. I actually did my best 5K in the last 2 years in them last year but probably had the most fitness. I found them actually "fastest" for short reps but agree, given a choice, would go for the VF1.
A bit cold indeed but my very own Singlet/Gloves/Arm Sleeves combo is my favorite:) I hope Nike will make the v4 a bit more aggressive again. It's moved quite close to the Alphafly in being very cushioned and stable. And I think we're both pretty similar in not really liking the Alphafly that much...
make a best running shoe of 2024 wen the time comes :D
Yeah, most likely I will. But also most likely, there will be some more additions until then.
Quite the opposite for me. As more of a casual runner, I dont quite enjoy the plus for my easy slow runs as it feels slappy for the lack of word. But this shoe comes alive when I speed up when doing tempo training and I've been enjoying it.
Totally understand that. It's not a lot of foam under the forefoot and minimal rocker rolling you along...
The Rebel v4 is too wide, this should be the "wide" version and they should have made a normal version. New Balance is a relatively premium brand and they should have thought about that. It's unacceptable.
@@alb.1911 Definitely something to be aware of with this model! Don't have too much experience with New Balance otherwise. The last ones I had were the Rebel v2 and the Fuelcell TC and found both pretty wide but this is pretty extreme.
@@robin29991 someone told me that the SC Elite v4, even if looks identical, has a better fit, I will buy them as soon as I see on discount, but it's a completely different shoe... The one that for me replace the Rebel v4 is the Brooks Hyperion 2, almost same softness, perfect fin and more rebound.
Interesting, but makes sense for a Race Shoe. Have to say though, the SC Elite does look a vit average in terms of Carbon Shoes for a very expensive price. So not really sold on it...
NB caters to wide foot runners and runners that prefer comfort over speed. I understand your gripe though because I feel the same about Nike and their catering to narrow foot runners.
@ inside a fast shoe like the Rebel v4 the foot shouldn’t dance inside, otherwise in fast corners you can have serious problems and hurt yourself.
Due to injury, I won't be able to run for 10 more weeks. The Zoom Fly is on my list of shoes to try when I return.
@@thewalls7770 Oh dear, what happened there? That's a very long time off running.😔
@@robin29991 Non-running related. I had my rotator cuff repaired, and my bicep tendon reattached.
Thanks for the update, I got the thought you weren't too keen on the Pegasus Plus but you enjoying them more now / reaching for them more? Enjoying the content.
@@iainbareham Thanks! Yeah, really loving the Peg Plus now! I think initially I was just expecting something different from it. But when you see it as just a simple Daily Trainer with a fairly natural ride, it's hard to beat.
@@robin29991 Great to hear, I think that's it, we were all hoping that it would be something else! and in these times we are spoilt we these new foams.
Where do you get that nike headband from
That's not Nike, it's Kalenji, so Decathlon's in-house brand. Think I picked it up there a few years ago, had it for ages now.
Hey Andrea, glad you enjoyed it:) I would say stick to your normal Running Shoe size. It's a pretty narrow fit but otherwise true to size.
Loving your channel. Ive done one run in my ZF6s and looking forward to a long run this weekend. I wouldnt call myself a Nike fanboy but they have usually worked pretty well for me. Knowing you are the same way means I can trust your reviews for myself a bit more than a reviewer who generally doesnt like them.
Thanks, glad you like these videos! I've already done a Longrun in mine but was 'only' 80 minutes. It's interesting with many Shoetubers, they seem to hate Nike and especially the Pegasus. Is it because Nike doesn't often send their shoes out? Don't know but most of them do work well for me and I like the designs more than most other brands.
Are you in UK?
No, in Germany at the border to Luxembourg. So you'll see a lot of videos in both countries. What made you think UK?
what type of cross training? since i assume nike is ur fav brand for running shoes, what bout the other brands that seem to work for u? i havent seen u run in any asics yet and they seem to b the most popular running brand atm
Mostly just Elliptical and a little Aquajogging. A bit boring but seems to work to keep a little base fitness there. I've never been too interested in Asics models tbh. I do have the Metaspeed Sky+ though and love that one! Also the Cumulus 25 worked really well for me. Was thinking about possibly getting the Novablast 5 but not super excited about it, have to say.
@@robin29991 haha didnt even kno aquajogging was a thing! cycling/swimming also coulda done the job rite ? why doesnt asics interest u? the nb5 is my next shoe im gonna get so im pretty keen, hope they dont let me down as ive never ran in a novablast yet
Swimming could be an alternative sport for me but I'm so bad at it, it's pretty much pointless:) I don't know, just the Asics Designs never really appeal to me that much...
@@robin29991 wen u say the designs aren't appealing r u talking purely about the aesthetics? or also the geometry of the shoe?
Yeah, just the aesthetics really...🫣
PS well done on 300 subs. That was quick jump from 200. I see you are getting a lot more views on recent videos than subs which I always look at a mark of relative success. I never think TH-cam really is that bothered if you subscribe or not as once viewed a few videos from a channel, they seem to appear as often in my feed as ones from channels I have subscribed to and certainly more often than channels I subbed to but for whatever reason have not been tuning into them of late.
Thanks! These recent videos did bring in quite a lot of new subs. I do find subscribers a really important metric for me. I interpret it as a sign that someone likes my videos enough to want them in their feed regularly and not want to miss new ones.
Just done my first run in them and really impressed. I wonder if the plate in my UK 13 is thicker/stiffer as it felt very stiff and I can’t bend mine like you can or at least did not try too hard. Generally we must like similar shoes as I don’t think much of the AF3 & probably prefer the VF1 & 2 over the VF3 although that they all have served me well in races.
It might be the UK 13 or maybe because I have the women's version? Maybe they tuned it a bit differently there. But glad to hear you enjoy them as well. As a 'Training' Shoe it's not quite as fast as the Racers I find, but much more versatile and much more supportive. It's just easy to fit this one in as it can do almost everything.
@@robin29991 According to "Sauce for Strava" I managed a 90 day best at 2K, 3K, 2 Miles and 5K! That the speeds were slower than my 2:59 marathon last year shows not been "trying" for months :) Sadly not by design. Was actually a good really to feel was running "almost" properly. Will have to see next time if wasn't just a news shoe day bump.
@@robin29991 on plate stiffness I did read in the past that my "boat feet" ones are stiffer as largely they have to be as otherwise either might just snap or have relatively less effect. I didn't try and bend the shoe too agressively but certainly did not seem anything like a Peg Plus which can pretty much fold back on itself. Have to admit after this one run, I am liking the ZF6 more than the Peg Plus but the ZF6 does seems a better "fit" for me.
Nike Fanboy!
Admitted to it:)
Brilliant mate, good to see a proper test! And love your honesty about Nike!
Thanks! There's always a little bias there I think. It's not just the shoes but also the brand image and the designs play a part for me.
I am an admitted Adidas Fanboy.. But in Canada, it's not easy to find Adidas shoes. You have to check their website daily and buy when in stock not when you need a pair. And their stores never stock running shoes, only lifestyle. Whereas with Nike, they almost always have stock and their stores carry every running shoe.
I like most of their designs but performance wise, Adidas is a bit hit and miss for me. The Boston 10 was probably one of my worst shoes ever and the 12 only marginally better. Loved the Takumi Sen 8 and the Adios Pro Evo 1. Also really like the Agravic Speed Ultra Trail shoe. The Adios Pro 3 meanwhile was just okay...
Great review 🎉
Thanks! Just giving some quick additional thoughts on this. Certainly did well here.
was looking for a shoe to add into the rotation with vaporfly 3 and invincible 3. this looks like a perfect fit
This should do really well then. Had the Invincible 1 and 2 and always found them really fun shoes. But they are quite locked into Easy/Recovery Runs. Pair it with the ZF6 and you've pretty much got everything covered there:)
which shoe wer u running in when u hurt ur ankle?
Cloudboom Strike is what I wore on the Session that caused it initially and then the Peg Plus on the Easy Runs that made it worse. But don't think it was the shoes that caused the issue.
@@robin29991 if u dont think it was the shoes what was it? wen u say ankle injury do u mean like the peroneal tendon or like ligaments? as i was running i stepped on the curb and rolled my ankle on it now i have peroneal tendon soreness lol. dunno if its just a niggle or minor injury tho
Hello , cool video 👌 Do you think these ones are useful for technical, rocky terrain in marathon distance ? And what about them in the downhills? Thanks for the info 🎉🎉
@@jorgemedranov Thanks! Yeah, absolutely technically capable. Very good grip on these and they're quite cushioned for longer distances. They're stable and great upper hold as well. Should do great!
I love your videos. Today I did my first run in my Pegasus Plus. I'm a much more casual runner and plan to use it as a "fast" trainer and possibly even a race shoe (just getting into some 5ks and then maybe 10k). I went a half size down from my size in the Pegasus 41, Supernova Rise, and Velocity Nitro 3, mainly because the Flyknit upper seemed a bit loose in my size. So far, the ride is nothing amazing, but I think that is exactly what I like. In a world of "running on pillows," this kind of shoe is a nice return to simplicity. Natural and light. The biggest problem is price. I think Nike just doesn't want to drop any "ZoomX only" product below a certain price. At the same time, there are discounts occasionally, and then the shoe is a great value for those who like a natural and more traditional running shoe.
Thanks a lot! It took me a few runs to really appreciate the shoe. You might have seen my first video on it and I really was a bit underwhelmed. But it's grown on me. Definitely a much more speed capable shoe than the Peg 41/Supernova/Velocity Nitro you mentioned. Totally agree though, it is overpriced. Yes it is ZoomX, but like you said, it's a pretty simple shoe and nothing amazing. Funny thing is, I searched the internet for a bit yesterday and found it for an incredible 89€ minus Discount Code for then 76€ at Zalando.
this shoe is not 220 grams its more like 280
I'm talking about the weight in my size 40 EU(small feet). It is in fact 220g.
Nice bro sup👍🏿
