I know some players will put a dice on top of their decks to remember upkeep triggers, that's allowed. You're allowed to take notes during a match. There's certainly tools available to players to remember these things during a professional game.

@@attackoncardboard I don't need to point out a rule. He cheated. He made an illegal game action that benefited him and knew it. Would this have been allowed in MTGO? No cause it's an illegal action, which again, he knew. If there is a problem with the rules not saying this is cheating, then the rules need to change cause this is, in fact, cheating. It's pathetic to see this kind of behavior at the professional level.

Fun Fact, there's something called the Infraction Procedures Guide that dictates what penalty a player should receive when they break a rule. Again I ask what rule did he break that warrants a DQ? Bello's ability is always "active". It's always checking to see if it's your turn or not. Remember, for static abilities, the ability's timestamp is tied to the card. itself.

@attackoncardboard well they changed so many times since I started playing... Seems a pretty different game to what I played before. Here you are affecting so many printed cards, that was thought with different rules and now they got unbalanced. I never felt the need of changing combat rules tbh... I was even liking the dmg on stack more. Walls are getting a HUGE nerf. the walls were working as supposed: taking dmg in place of other units soaking some dmg and while allowing creatures to take cover and survive...and this works really well because you can take advantage of your fortress and walls just when defending, not when you are doing a siege (attacking).now most walls/defenders are much less useful and combat is worst. Think about "wall of blood" it becomes basically useless...

@alessiozamboni4694 ok, so let's go back to the previous, you block with a wall and another creature. I then ordered the blocker so the creature takes damage then the wall. How did the wall soak up the damage? This isn't a new rule, it's simply going back to pre 6th edition rules (minus damage on the stack). You could always overassign damage in double blocks, there's literally no changes there.

@attackoncardboard ok, but in my example with "wall of blood", it means I cannot know beforehand if I need or not to pump the wall and pay life, right? So it is pre 6th but no good part of the 6th

So all that to say that Wall of Blood and double blocking hasn't been good for the last 15+ years and two combat rules changes? 😅 If you just simply block with Wall of Blood and no other creatures there's no changes there.

CR510.1a Each attacking creature and each blocking creature *assigns combat damage equal to its power*. CR702.19 The controller of an attacking creature with trample first assigns damage to the creature(s) blocking it... When checking for assigned lethal damage,... but not any abilities or effects that might change the amount of damage that’s actually dealt. Wolverine's ability doesn't kick in until they deal damage. So in this case, 4 damage would be assigned to the creature, which is lethal, and then 2 would be assigned to the player. So the creature will take 8 damage and the player 4.

I was play testing the wolverine deck I just finished building and got Wolverine to 20 power with trample, I used Ram through on a creature with 3 toughness which meant 40 damage was dealt to it, since wolverine's ability triggers when damage is dealt, the excess damage being 37 would double to 74! Dude you are the best!

Ah hold up. Ram Through doesn't have two instance of damage. It has one instance split between two "targets". The spell works almost exactly like the combat damage step. So there's a 3/3 and you have a 20/20 Wolverine. You cast Ram Through and "deals damage equal to its power to target creature". Ok so we're looking to deal 20 to the creature. "excess damage is dealt to that creature's controller instead." - Excess damage is damage beyond what is lethal. So just like combat we assign 3 damage to the creature and 17 to the player. So the creature will take 6 and the player will take 34. From Gatherer: "Excess damage caused by a spell or ability is similar to how combat damage from a creature with trample is handled. Start with the amount of damage being dealt to the creature and determine what is "lethal." This is the creature's toughness minus the amount of damage that it already has marked on it, but ignoring any replacement or prevention effects that will modify this damage. "

I've done a deck tech of sorts covering the villains precon deck and the 10th Doctor Precon. Pretty sure I cover some of the best cards in the decks.

What do you mean? Deathtouch hasn't changed? Could it be that you don't understand Deathtouch?

You still need to assign lethal to each blocker on order to assign any to the player with Trample.

That's how priority and the stack works. When a player has priority they can cast a spell and either choose to retain priority and do something else or pass priority to the opposing player and let them respond. There's no changes to when players can cast spells during combat.
