Glo Damansara Mall : Empty Stores and Silent Corridors. Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur
Glo Damansara Mall, located in the heart of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) in Kuala Lumpur, was envisioned as a convenient shopping destination for the affluent community. Developed by Glomac Berhad, the mall opened its doors to cater to the residents of the nearby high-rise Glomac Damansara Residences and the surrounding affluent neighborhood. Strategically positioned next to the LRT station and within walking distance to 3 Damansara, Glo Damansara Mall aimed to provide a comprehensive shopping experience with a variety of retail outlets, dining options, and entertainment facilities.
However, over the years, Glo Damansara Mall has faced significant challenges that have led to its decline. One of the primary factors contributing to the mall's struggles is the intense competition from nearby malls such as 1 Utama, Starling Mall, and 3 Damansara. These malls offer a wider range of amenities and attract a larger number of shoppers, drawing foot traffic away from Glo Damansara.
Additionally, the overall retail landscape in Malaysia has become increasingly saturated, with numerous shopping centers competing for a limited number of consumers. This oversupply of retail space has resulted in lower occupancy rates and reduced foot traffic for many malls, including Glo Damansara. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the situation, as lockdowns and restrictions led to a significant decline in consumer spending and mall visits.
Despite efforts to revitalize the mall, including hosting events and promotions, Glo Damansara Mall continues to struggle with attracting shoppers. The once-bustling corridors are now often empty, with many retail outlets closing down or relocating to more popular malls. The decline in foot traffic has also impacted the remaining tenants, making it difficult for them to sustain their businesses.
In conclusion, Glo Damansara Mall's history is marked by its initial promise as a convenient shopping destination for the local community. However, the mall's decline can be attributed to intense competition, an oversaturated retail market, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, the mall continues to operate, albeit with reduced foot traffic and fewer retail tenants.

Flanked by graveyards & swerage treatment plant. Really bad fungshui there possibly
2:18 that Istanbul restaurant is so good though. Always packed during weekend especially at night.
mati already la..good la
Just turn the mall into a multilevel car showrooms and automotive related products shops all under one roof.
Can try to attract Bangla, Pakistani, Rohinya, Nepalese, Mynmar come in to shopping and fill the gap.
You mean a refugee camp?
It has greatly improved compared to 2 years ago. They managed to get anytime fitness, banquet hall. I think it has potential
How about going to old places around KL that is still operating.. something like amcorp mall but perhaps you can try go to any tourist or potential tourist spots? how about the hobbits theme park for a start
I recorded Amcorp Mall some time back th-cam.com/video/Lldk3pg0gyQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uF0Apu-FE1gDWwKc
Nothing is unique, the retails are all the same.. whats the point going to KLEC if you already have Mid valley and the gardens haha
Government must introduce vacancy tax to punish this wastage of space. Developers make land in the city scarce & pricier by building useless and underutilized building...consequently urban sprawling worsening than ever. Very vey bad.
I think Malaysians tenants are still stuck in the mind that shopping malls are only exclusively for shopping and dining. I think since Glo is close to a MRT stop, it should transform itself partially to pickle ball/ badminton court, govt service centre, or even some medical related service eg physio centre since KPJ is just nearby. Or even tuition centres or library.Anyway I think retail centres nowadays are really struggling..
@2:20 F&B at the lower ground? This place is sustained by supermarket at LG and Super Tanker. What F&B at lower ground? Are you a PJ boy?
itu memang rumah hantu
Glomac Mall is not in the heart of TTDI. Rather it is at the fringe near the Bomba and Pizza Hut.
working at the gardens but never know there’s a mall 😂
I wonder how this building is maintained for so many years with such sad occupancy rate.
haha dont know
common issue in malaysia is too many malls in 10KM range
Cover Sunway Putra mall. Nothing much too
Of all the dead malls , which are able to turnaround for better purposes ? And rental price thats not reflecting the current situation will not attract any takers too . Only Great Malls like midvalley , pavilion , 1 U & sunway pyramid are successful & exciting . No brainers creating malls without backup plans of conversion / transition . If cant be a shopping malls like the top 4 above , what else can this mall become ?
Nowadays, we need to study how to attract foreigner tourist first… Thats all… Hahaha.. How beautiful you do the deco, how many tenant rent the premise, if the footfall not many, there nothing… Locals now only their life, work and sleep..
Malay last time red eye see Tropicana City Mall do well. They then built this Mall hoping to pull some of the Chinese customers. Unfortunately it failed and like a typical Malay mall it will die.
Why do you have the huge urge to bring race into here?
Even 3 Damansara is failing. Who built Glo tho?
@@ivanooi1643 glomac
rental price don't reflect the reality of potential return, who would want to rent. But owner would insist it's "market value" on paper, not the reality
The only reason to come here is the anytime fitness gym. And it’s the only spot that is actually crowded in the mall.
The Turkish food and the Indian food yum yum
Ground floor gym goers
too many malls open around a few km, a huge mistake building a mall at close range. one is 3 damansara dead, atria struggling upper floor , starling doing alright and glo is the worse and also the ss2 mall completely dead 7 years ago
starling is right in the middle of uptown thats why it is thriving
its time for open space malls
Who is paying for all these losses. Sounds like China property story. Is msia gonna end up like Sri Lanka or Venezuela
Common things about malls after COVID-19 events totally ruined it 😢 to be a fact. Same thing here in Penang malls too.
Covid exposes all the mall flaws and lack of planning
Unfortunately I agree coz I stay behind
I used to work here from 1996-2014
Suggest you to feature IOI Damansara Mall, DC Mall, Starling Mall.
I'll consider adding them to my future videos.
Brand identity ties along with Market positioning and Marketing strategies. The management of Cheras Sentral really needs to rethink and decide what is the core identity and value of this mall. Does the Management want to establish this mall as a neighborhood mall, or a lifestyle hub like Sunway Velocity that is able to meet the needs and wants of most people?
Sorry, as you said threshold amount for bankrupt 2024 is RM200k but it seems now still stick to RM100k. Kindly advise. Thank you❤
In 19th century this land is a Chinese cemetery and in late 19th century it was Mass Prison Camp. Bad energy ( feng shui) . Corporate Greeds , has No Commonsense ! 😂
Not walkable..thats all
A lot of mall already..please built something new for malaysian..
If you look at numbers - street level outlets are doing much better - esp in traffic .Malaysia is hot but Bukit Bintang area is now one big street mall with unbelievable traffic.. People prefer to stay outdoor if its not too hot..
The last time I went there was December 2024. There was no direct connection to the MRT station as the section that was supposed to be connected to the station was still under some sort of construction or renovations. People still needed to walk quite a distance from the MRT station to the mall, which was quite a bit of a hassle.
I also have fond memories of Jaya Shopping Mall, especially the spiral staircase. Perhaps if developers shifted their focus from building massive malls to creating smaller, more thoughtfully designed spaces-emphasizing quality over quantity-these malls would resonate more deeply with their local communities. This approach could lead to more unique and character-filled shopping experiences.
They could've easily differentiate themselves by actually bringing in more famous Japanese brand stores... Right now not even Uniqlo, FamilyMart, and AEON exists there, which I find somewhat funny because these 3, I'd argue, are the most well known and influential Japanese brands in Malaysia. Their decision to open the "Animate" pop up store was nice, but many including me were disappointed it wasn't the full fledged store selling CDs and Books and other more unique stuff not commonly available.
myeg? I nvr seen that shop at Genting , TBS & KL Sentral
A big fan of this i-City Mall when I was staying in Klang, so much that I held my wedding dinner there haha It's a very comfortable mall, has great layout, wide selection of stores and F&B, and an amazing IMAX hall. Parking layout and system is super smooth too!
Thanks for sharing!
The shops people want to see already in Lot10, Pavillion, Starhill, BukitBintang.
Yes, but maybe also because Lalaport is at the other end of BBCC
Oh, AEON Bukit Tinggi is doing very well. So is Setia City Mall.
Wow I can see my son was standing outside of the smart master outlet cause he was working at that outlet tho🥰💜🤭😂
I am desperately looking for a suitable mall to go during weekdays nearby Bukit Raja, now I am interested to go this mall 🥳
I think this mall is a good option for weekdays.
Oops, pavilion in his dead mall list now. .
As of 2024 and early 2025
Which ever mall appears in his video collection will be in his dead mall list.
Chester Cheng, in the future will you expand to cover malls outside of Klang Valley like in Penang, Ipoh and JB ?
I will if I go there for holidays
Too bad the mall was much better when it just opened. Now feel so crowded and looks so average. more stores now but so so brand
iCity Central mall is a good neighborhood mall with sufficient food outlets, clothing stores, cinema, specialty stores, etc. The size is not too big or small. There are more outlets now since 2023. When it opened in March 2019, Covid-19 hit M'sia a year later. Hence, there was a struggle in getting tenants for a few years. There is parking space available over at the residential blocks. Just park at levelP3 and walk across to the mall via the link bridge from UG level.
When ppl think of the Mid Valley area, they think Mid valley megamall and gardens. KL Eco city Mall is unknown except to ppl working there.
