Watching your videos on dead/dying malls is like taking a trip down memory lane for me. Such a bittersweet feeling of nostalgia, from their heydays until their dying days 😢
Just came back from there , nice mall with low budget ppl with the new supermarket NSK it brings more life to the mall. Hope more branded retail open there
It was really dead before but now getting better after NSK opened. A supermarket is an anchor tenant every malls needed. I came here few months ago for Popular bookstore event. They occupied center court area for almost 2 weeks. Plenty of cheap eateries at lower ground level. Kafe Ruuma always crowded with their best-seller nasi lemak ayam goreng. I was surprised there is a Johnny's here, usually can only be found at more upmarket malls.
@@chestercheng.realestate i agree... car park in malls and it's pricing also a good addition for reference / guide too for patrons of mall visits on your videos ✌
Should do 1 video at the Sunway Velocity Mall. The mall has lots of footwork, but their carpark sucks. When the mall was open no long, I could not find my car when I parked it at Level B2 (if not mistaken). I asked the guard about the location, and he could not tell me the location of my car. Now I park at B1. But the management always changes the route to the exit.
I remember Summit back in 2012 before i moved out of USJ1. Side by side with Mydin and Courts Mammoth. It was already less shop open in the top floors, and yet around 2017, there's an expansion renovation. Now, not only is it bigger. It's emptier. It gives subliminal vibe of went into the Backrooms 😅 About the traffic jam... yeah. Back in the day, it took one hour in Rapid Bus from Jati/Angsana apartment bus stop to slightly over the Summit area which will take me only 20 minutes walk. 😅 Ahh... the not so good old days. 😊 Love the Student discounts for the GSC Cinema though. ❤
I stay opposite this mall. Nothing wrong with the mall. I come here once a while for groceries and lunch at the lower ground. There is a very good cendol and nasi lemak shop. 2nd floor there is a good Chinese shop. It's the economy that is killing the malls. Even AEON have exit Sunway pyramid. Traffic sometimes do not translate into sales. They need a very good PRO to organise more events. Shopping trend have changed.
Yes, i was surprise that even AEON exit Sunway Pyramid. But it seems that Subway is remodeling those vacated space that's left by AEON to smaller retail outlets. We have to wait and see if Sunway can pull this off, but I think they can pull this off
I go to Summit AT LEAST once a week, and I can assure you that it is not this quiet! Especially lunch time and after work hours, Summit is filled with people doing their grocery shopping and having meals. Sure there are not many tenants anymore but it has enough to attract customers And to reply to a comment about car park; Summit's car park is old but well maintained with ticketless feature!
so many mall in petaling alone, some are almost dead and some still stand strong.... evolve mall, atria, citta mall etc... let say if they can't manage to get any shop to rent there, is it possible for the place to rent that lot as offices?
Frequent during the early days when they have MPH at the ground floor, Giant, Popular Bookshop, ACE hardware, the food court at the 2nd floor, also the Chinese noodles House at the 2nd floor I think, illegal DVD and VCD shops, genting Bowl and GSC... then they also had Point B
Yes! There used to be some pretty good restaurants that serve cooked dishes, such as that restaurant downstairs after Giant, facing the ATM machines.. and that corner lot on the 2nd floor facing that video game console shop, maybe that's the noodles house that you spoke of. But after Covid, many of those shops shuttered for good, it would seem.
I used to visit this mall for Popular Bookfair once a year before covid, so I guess my last visit was 2019. That time it's already half-dead, one lift was broken and filled with rubbish.
Nostalgia! I bought a set of Grolier books for my future kid while my wife was pregnant at one of those Popular Bookfairs. That Grolier set came with a very sturdy and heavy FOC bookshelf that I still have in my home today.
They should link the mall to Damen mall and built more pedestrian friendly walkway linking to LRT station. Hope once the upcoming Hype service apartment ready, it will bring more crowd. They should also change the use of space by renting it out to wholesale supplier or any business that need space to operate. Anyway, everything is done online now, so physical space no longer a need.

One vivid memory that i still recalls was a Godzilla 1998 posters plastered near the cinema. back then my family will frequently go to Carrefour/Subang parade for their up market items while Giant for their daily groceries that sometimes visit summit for a short time just to eat A&W.
Currently A&W relocated to USJ10 Taipan. For me usually I my groceries back then at Carefour SS16 too, but since taken over by Aeon, I rarely patron there anymore

I still go to Summit USJ from time to time. Damen also quite empty. A few inherent problems,,,traffic jams, flow of traffic which makes it difficult to reach these malls. You're right about individual ownership of lots.
I think you seem not to understand why malls become less frequented these days. I heard one economist say this: 'there are three groups of people who comprise consumers. Group 1 the majority 80% of poorer popultion who have less to spend these days, Group 2 the middle class with enough to sustain as well as extras to spend, thy occupy 15 % of the spending consumers. 3rd group are the richest whowill mostly spend overseas. The group 1 being poorer now comes out less to spend. meaning no crowds at malls. The 2nd group are people who love crowds, but since group 1 is lacking in public places, group 2 would not go there. As you can see, we have close to 700 big and small malls in the country, meaning too many malls. Nowadays, only malls that are NEW only have a slight chance of attracting patrons. Old ones, sure to decay as time goes by.
It's very obvious in regards to online shopping.. The mall tours are meant to show the audience the current condition, it's brief history more general story
Please make video on Damen Mall which is few walk away from Summit. The parking entrance kind of remind me of The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne underground base.
This was my favorite go to mall and was bustling with people back in the 2010. It was a great place to find games and movies (DVDs). This was back when Summit was the central hub for console and PC gaming. When the new management had taken over Summit to refurb the mall, 70% of the previous shop tenants was chased out or left (possibly due to management fee or rent increase). There was also Black Canyon restaurant that used to be at the corner lot. It was the original branch that made great coffee and food. Sadly, that's gone as well. I think part of what lead to downfall of Summit is when Da Men mall was developing, which caused a lot of traffic and inconveniences. Many residents/customers just avoid that road completely if they can. This is a prime example of corporate/developer greed. It also didn't help that Taylors college pre uni moved out of SS15 to the Lakeside campus and Metropolitan college was merged into INTI. The student population had decreased significantly.
Yep.. its an abandoned mall now. But im still going there once in a while during lunch hour to eat at this one amazing chinese muslim restaurant. Surprisingly its still packed with people around the food court area. But the upper floors, its all dead
Used to frequent this mall when it just opened in 1999. Lotsa stores , dvd shops, computer shops, restaurants ,cinema. Now it has become a shithole and they dare to increase the parking fee to a ridiculous amount. That parking fee increase really killed this mall for good
Bro I vaguely remember coming to this mall back in sometime around 1998 or 1999, around my final year in college, and the attractions here were mainly the rock climbing gym and, if I'm not mistaken, the cineplex. Back in the early- to mid-2000s, I used to catch movies there with my friend who was staying at USJ 2. I used to park my car at her house and we'd walk to the edge of USJ 2 facing the main road and cross it with the overhead bridge to get to Summit. I recall that it used to be pretty vibrant, but the interior layout back then was a bit different from what I see now. In fact, around 2013-2014 when I used to see my gf (now wife) there when she was working at Menara Hei-Tech next door, it still used to feel like a slightly better version of Sg Wang Plaza. There were sketchy corridors of small shops that were hidden from the main areas which I can't seem to find anymore these days? Back in the early 2010s up until 2013 or so, I remember there were interesting shops hidden in these areas such as shops selling paintball rifles and airsoft guns, and shops selling remote controlled vehicles and accessories, and several run-down IT shops that feel like Imbi Plaza called them from the mid-1990s and want them to go back. I still visit Summit USJ at least once a month, particularly to get something from Home Pro or Ace Hardware. Those are pretty much the "useful" shops that are at Summit that aren't at most other locations under one roof. If I can't find a part at Ace Hardware, I'd hop over to Home Pro and vice versa. If both shops are selling something for too high a price, I'd try my luck to see if I can find a crappy low-quality disposable alternative at Mr DIY. So I'd say that Summit is my go-to place when I'm out looking for stuff to do some home repairs and DIY. Its biggest turn-off is the absolutely terrible car park. The entrance and exit locations are terrible. The internal road organization is terrible. The lighting and availability of parking spots are terrible. Up until around a year ago, it was still using horrible ticket based system but luckily they've since changed to using TnG which was a real boost in convenience although going into the car park still feels like descending into a slightly more roomy version of Sg Wang Plaza's or Kota Raya's car park. Shame on DaMen for still using a crappy ticket-based system. They don't seem to have any plans to switch to TnG. Same goes for Starling mall. Don't these mall operators know what a turn-off it is to still use a shitty ticketing system for their car parks?..
Thanks for sharing your experience. I do agree Summit USJ mall can still serve as the USJ residence, but they are quickly being replace by a smaller Main Place mall as USJ21. Yes, I do agree the mall's parking is a big challenge especially is you want to exit back to SS Subang Jaya, it's going to be a long jam
I have been living in USJ for the past 13 years and use frequent Summit often with friends for coffee. Has not been there for a year or two. I just went there today to buy Canon Printer ink, but to my surprise, it looked deserted, and most shops have closed operations. Food outlets are a few and not as good as you can get outside. Sorry to say, Summit Mall had failed.
Any pubs in this mall. If there is pubs then we will visit this mall soon. Central Market in those days had the River Bank and the Central market always did well those days as the patrons will visits all the stall b4 or after drinks there.
They should host the 4 main anchor tenants on the ground floor to attract more customers, don't forget Japanese Nisio store there. [ Home Pro / NSK / Mr DIY / Superbowl, etc ]. I didn't know there was no central management to handle the outlet tenant open closed notice requirements. Most of the shops are closed in some parts of the mall especially the top floors for anyone to walk alone there. I couldn't find the parking entrance direction sign there and had to park outside( Rm6 first 2 hr + 2 per subsequent hour). The toilets are okay for guys but I didn't see any cleaners around there to maintain the public toilet areas properly.
Subang resident here 👋 The Summit USJ was one of the malls my family used to frequent back in the early 2000s but slowly it started fading away & there were some dodgy massage parlours with scantily clad women waiting for patrons (This definitely led to negative perception amongst the Subang Jaya community). Furthermore, there are just too many malls not only in Subang Jaya but especially in the Klang Valley.
wow looks nicer and cleaner than before…..seems brighter. not sure if its more or less the same amount of shops. it was dark and dingy and creepy. yup used to go there for pirated dvds😅is that rock climbing place still there??
I also stayed at USJ 6 in the early 20s. I frequent this mall regularly, but never enjoyed it. IMO the problem with this mall is the multi stories tall structure (like berjaya time square). This kind of mall is old fashion and not preferred by many because they have to go up the escalator many times. In addition, most of the shops sell cheap, bazaar quality kind of products, not something that the subang crowd prefer.
I do drop by at this mall when I need a cendol fix at Nyonya Cendol. I also buy fresh coconut juice at the cafe in front of NSK. The sales of lots at the upper floors make it hard to manage. Back in 2015 they boasted of a face-lift, spending some money but only to put a new facade. Money badly spent. NSK has brought in grocery shoppers. That's positive.
Yes, I remember the time USJ Summit went thru a "major" renovation as after completion, I was so eager to check them out, but to my disappointment to find out renovation was only for the exterior facade. Interior still remain the old outdated styling.
Used to go there rather often for lunch back when I used to study at Segi Subang (and that's before they moved locations). It was already kinda meh even back then. I guess I'm quite the exception, since I heard most of the college students prefer Sunway Pyramid.
I think Summit USJ need to undergo redevelopment in another 10 years time. I request you todo Evolve Mall and Maisson by The Park Ara Damansara. Space U8 and Plaza Prima OKR.
oh my... Evolve Mall! ya, looks dead even during its first year of operation, but it has a potential because some interior decor of the mall looks nice and knowing Ara D'sara is not a low-grade residential area. Should also do GLO Damansara near 3 Damansara.... another zombie mall!
The Government should provide some directions and incentives to convert all these empty retail lots in vacant shopping malls into residential hostels and affordable housing . What a waste with all these precious unused property assets .
It was my hangout place during my younger days. I usually go there to watch movies, and snooker or bowling sessions. I remember at one point of time, the elevated floor (maybe same floor as cinema) was filled with massage centers and karaoke box shops. Since then I seldom visit this place anymore because of unfavored vibes.
They have also Summit Bukit Mertajam with Hotel and shopping complex. Now the hotel become hostel for foreign workers. most of the shop in the shopping complex also they rent to foreigner. Can see the poor management from the owner.
i think Alamanda Putrajaya is having a massive redevelopment and upgrading operations since the mid of last year although the mall is still in operations during that period if not mistaken.... i have never been there since like forever ago...
I remember merrier times before DaMen opened next door, they used to have so many events in the ground fall. I still come to the saloon in the 2nd floor, near DIY to cut my hair. It would break my heart if it closes down...
this mall is so dead tht you forgot to do it earlier in the series...i live in puchong for 3 decades and i dont even remember if i have been to this mall my entire life
Feng shui facts: Building MAIN entrance facing rail track/ bridge cutting across usually not doing well. Closer to the structure the worst. Chaotic chi flow bad for biz & its occupants. Ie: sg wang plaza, Time square, Quil mall, Sunway putra, Cheras sentral mall, LaLaport, Summit usj, 3 damansara...
I used to came here for a movie. The GSC here were cheap compare to other gsc maybe because of old cinema. I had scary experienced on the basement after midnight movie. Me and my friend encounter 1 youth begging to me asked me to bring him home.. I saw the youth barefoot and bleeding. I cant help because we were panic. i suspected he was a ghost.
Even the toilets near the cinemas are haunted if you go there for midnight movies. Be careful when you hear other people going into nearby cubicles when you're in one of them, only to realize that all cubicles are empty when you've done your business and came out to wash your hands before leaving the toilet.
@@DelaTube69 It was at some random time during one of those movie dates that I had. My then-GF experienced something similar at the female toilets too. It wasn't Halloween and wasn't during the chinese 7th month
if i recall the LG floor once had a Mos Burger outlet .....maybe you should check out Atria if you haven`t done a vid on that place .. foot traffic there also kinda bad
Atria Mall at Damansara Jaya although has becoming emptier especially even more after the pandemic, still has the modern interior and a nice place to go! Recently Hamleys toystore closed down after nearly 10 years in Atria. Even SportsDirect was replaced by a smaller factory-outlet type SportPlanet. MBO cinemas also surprisingly closed down mid 2024 after they return to operations after the pandemic!
@@DelaTube69 don’t forget the entire top floor which once had lots of restaurants all closed down one by one, now left only the Korean restaurant and the Chinese place at the other end ..
@@soniccdx oh really? yes i do remember it has a row of quite nice and chic F&B outlets on the top floor, what happened ya? there are also one floor dedicated to mostly children-related stuff like a playhouse, education centres, toys, clothing etc... and I bet most of them are also closed now?
@@DelaTube69 i think most of them closed down because of the pandemic + rising costs i guess. the shops for young kids stuff are mostly still there .got 1-2 which closed ..(i think some robot education (if i remember correctly)
For old Malls to survive should have atleast clean and bright parking area, easy automatic parking entrance/exit, footpath/sidewalk network within 1km radius, clean foodcourt and grocery.
Those cost money and since these older malls are strata title, they may have big issues collecting maintenance fees from individual owners due to no rental income

NHK comment made me laugh so hard! Thank you for bringing joy. Love your videos
Glad you enjoyed!
Yep.. its an abandoned mall now. But im still going there once in a while during lunch hour to eat at this one amazing chinese muslim restaurant. Surprisingly its still packed with people around the food court area. But the upper floors, its all dead
Yes, the pull noodle is good at LG
11:07 Agreed... Undertakers..
Oso carpet sellers plus antique China furnitures...
I only frequent USJ Summit for cheap marketing at NSK these days... 😅
NSK grocer are doing decently well there
In terms of location is not bad if you need to meet up with clients due to many parking and quietness, maybe can position for wedding events...
i studied at prime college for pre-u in 2000 which was embedded into the mall. good times. nice food court. but it was a bit far from home.
After the lockdown, things seems takes a huge drastic turn for Summit USJ Mall
Used to go to Summit for GSC only. Have not been there for more than 5 or is it 10 years.
These days online movies are also killing the traditional cinemas
Went there once coz I was staying at the hotel next door. Watch a movie at Gsc. I was literally the only one watching in the hall 😂
Wow, exclusive private cinema.. LOL
I did my practical training at heitech padu so summit is where we had our lunch everyday
Any pubs in this mall.
If there is pubs then we will visit this mall soon.
Central Market in those days had the River Bank and the Central market always did well those days as the patrons will visits all the stall b4 or after drinks there.
No pubs there
They should host the 4 main anchor tenants on the ground floor to attract more customers, don't forget Japanese Nisio store there.
Too many Malls around the vicinity around Subang, USJ and Sunway areas. This particular Summit Mall also a bit old. Not much attraction !
I lived in usj for about 6 years and sorry to say that i had only been to summit usj about twice.
Most Subang residents hang out at Sunway Pyramid
Please review Icon City Mall, opposite Federal Highway
Is that even a Mall? I always though this is office with service residence
Subang resident here 👋
The Summit USJ was one of the malls my family used to frequent back in the early 2000s but slowly it started fading away & there were some dodgy massage parlours with scantily clad women waiting for patrons (This definitely led to negative perception amongst the Subang Jaya community).
Furthermore, there are just too many malls not only in Subang Jaya but especially in the Klang Valley.
Thanks for sharing. I notice there are some massage parlors but am not sure if those are hanky panty type
wow looks nicer and cleaner than before…..seems brighter. not sure if its more or less the same amount of shops. it was dark and dingy and creepy. yup used to go there for pirated dvds😅is that rock climbing place still there??
Yes, early days Summit USJ was full of pirated CD and DVD. No rock climbing now.
Thanks for sharing
I used to visit Summit for rock climbing on the top floor around 2001-2002. Is the rock climbing still open?
I don't see any during the video shoot
Sunway Pyramid is the crowd magnets for college students
I agree with you in terms of poor design shops which looks like a small alley
I think Summit USJ need to undergo redevelopment in another 10 years time. I request you todo Evolve Mall and Maisson by The Park Ara Damansara. Space U8 and Plaza Prima OKR.
Will take a look at those malls
I don't think politician has the will power to do as they don't bring much RM to their coffers
During the old days There was a disco called megrez which cause a lot of chaos 😂
I don't think there are those massage centers anymore
Very good narrative
They have also Summit Bukit Mertajam with Hotel and shopping complex. Now the hotel become hostel for foreign workers. most of the shop in the shopping complex also they rent to foreigner. Can see the poor management from the owner.
Thanks for sharing. May I ask what's the current state of that shopping mall?
Bro, Alamanda Putrajaya is also in sharp decline..i hope u can do video there
Sure 👍
i think Alamanda Putrajaya is having a massive redevelopment and upgrading operations since the mid of last year although the mall is still in operations during that period if not mistaken.... i have never been there since like forever ago...
When are you going to cover Evolve Concept Mall?
On the drawing board
havent been there for more than 10 years :X
That's a long time ago
I remember merrier times before DaMen opened next door, they used to have so many events in the ground fall.
I still come to the saloon in the 2nd floor, near DIY to cut my hair.
It would break my heart if it closes down...
I do go and cut my hair too.. But after the lockdown 90% of the time my wife does that for me now. LOL
this mall is so dead tht you forgot to do it earlier in the series...i live in puchong for 3 decades and i dont even remember if i have been to this mall my entire life
Oh wow.. That crazy. I'm going to some other malls in random based on my full time work schedule and appointments
This mall is just good for the GSC
And bowling
NSK also HomePro also doing decenly well
I always go to The Summit for PS1 and PS2 games.
Sometimes it's nice to visit quiet malls
My old college PRIME COLLEGE @ USJ SUMMIT
Watched Matrix first movie here in 1999.
That's a long time back
Wow 😳😮
Feng shui facts: Building MAIN entrance facing rail track/ bridge cutting across usually not doing well. Closer to the structure the worst. Chaotic chi flow bad for biz & its occupants. Ie: sg wang plaza, Time square, Quil mall, Sunway putra, Cheras sentral mall, LaLaport, Summit usj, 3 damansara...
Oh, thank you for the fengsui insight. I didn't know that
I used to came here for a movie.
Yes, I agree the GSC ticket at USJ Summit usually cheaper. But is it still cheaper now?
Wah, ghost??
@@chestercheng.realestate GSC Summit is a dodgy place... only been there to watch a movie once... and never again 😅
Even the toilets near the cinemas are haunted if you go there for midnight movies. Be careful when you hear other people going into nearby cubicles when you're in one of them, only to realize that all cubicles are empty when you've done your business and came out to wash your hands before leaving the toilet.
@@jswong8200 do you experienced this during this halloween month or during other times too? 😲
Yes, Mos Burger is gone now
Will take a took at Atria in soonest time
Atria Mall at Damansara Jaya although has becoming emptier especially even more after the pandemic, still has the modern interior and a nice place to go!
@@DelaTube69 i think most of them closed down because of the pandemic + rising costs i guess. the shops for young kids stuff are mostly still there .got 1-2 which closed ..(i think some robot education (if i remember correctly)
how about subang parade? still survive?
Struggling.. Will have a video about this mall soon
@@chestercheng.realestateso many dead or dying malls to cover, you cannot finish filming them 😅
In that sense, also so sad
For old Malls to survive should have atleast clean and bright parking area, easy automatic parking entrance/exit, footpath/sidewalk network within 1km radius, clean foodcourt and grocery.
Those cost money and since these older malls are strata title, they may have big issues collecting maintenance fees from individual owners due to no rental income
My favourite Food at this Mall lower ground floor. Yes, too bad this Mall not doing well.😢
The Chinese Muslim Noodle shop quite good
if I'm not wrong, there was this dinosaurs park in it more than 2 decade ago?
I can't recall
This mall still looks new and clean
Front facade only
I used to come here once, to replace my gameboy cartridge. It was almost 20yrs plus ago.
That's a long time. LOL
There was a mtg store there. Don’t think it’s there any more. Tragic story
This type of concept is only good for those who strike BIG in KTM.. ie 4D and had time and money to peel slowly..😊😅
I come to this mall weekly for basketball, can't say much for variety of food or beverage options.
Basketball section seems to be very lively
Looks like Summit usj gradually becoming Sunset usj
There is no chance for a major refurbishment since the lots are all individually owned.
It's going to be a challenge
How about Damen Mall? I see that mall also not much ppl visit these days.
Dar-Men also quite quiet except for the LG floors
Are u the founder of related to Chester real estate agency ?
Unfortunately no.. LOL
You should go to plaza alam senteral shah alam
Thanks for the recommendation. Will take a look
Use to come here alot to play card game
of cos empty la... 9pm every shop close aldy. go at day times la...
Was there before 8pm
No matter how dead a mall is, their bowling alleys and cinema will always be full
ahh and the snooker center are always full too haha
That's true
Yeah, it is easily accessible from KESAS highway, but to get out from this mall? Still JAM JAM JAM JAM JAM.
This mall has decent footfall on weekends. definitely better than Endah Parade
By far.. Endah Parade is like 90% dead since anchor mall also left
