Another trick you can do in those situations (clear and shallow, spooky fish cruising) Cast out and leave your fly on the bottom as the fish gets near, give it the slightest twitch to lift it off the bottom. No splash to spook them, and just enough movement to get attention. I’ve never don’t it with a small nymph though. Usually with a baitfish streamer, a bugger, or a sculpin pattern. Sculpins are great to do that with, because their natural movement under water is no more than an inch or two off the bottom and they move in 3-5inch movements. It’s perfect.

Me and my buddies used to go there often 40 years ago and always killed it there and the fish were the size of what you caught. Being out of reach to most people too lazy to hike keeps the fishing good!

Looked at air photo, looks like a lot of lakes around. Tom Seinstra wrote a book and always thought Yosemite was fishless since they never stock. You would get kick out of that book, California Fishing.

I'm gonna try some off trail lakes next summer

With all your hiking you must see 10 a year. There are two subspecies of black bear in California. This looked like the California Black Bear which looks like a small Grizzly on the flag which is extinct.

I have had my share of bears. I had one put both his front paws on my tailgate while I was asleep. I scared him when I woke up and shoed him away. He was only medium size though.

Never go hiking or fishing with someone faster than you it's much easier to get new friends.

Bears go into a hyperfuscia state this time of the year which means they will eat anything and everything including humans to pack calories for the winter. Literally the worse part of the year to go on adventures on. People literally dissapear all the time and 99% of the time its because a bear got them and dragged their body to a spot to munch on and with bears they will eat you alive. Not like a big cat which will take out your throat first. Its probably the most gruesome way to go out. Luckily rhat bear didnt want one but one day you will come across one that does not give a fawk. you better be packing amani.

If that bear ate you and then pooped it would have a big fat smile on it! We would know it was you and your big fat smile! Fairwinds!

National Park or National Forest? It's bears season, so if he's that laid back in the NF, he's going to be in trouble sooner or later.
