Fly Fishing at a Lee Vining Creek Hydroelectric Dam

I had some time to kill before driving home so I stopped off at this hydroelectric dam to see if I could get something going.

Those have to be some of the toughest hatchery rainbows to catch on artificials. They have seen everything and often!

I love fishing Lee Vining creek but not when too many are doing the same thing.

There were people everywhere. If there was more flow it would be one thing but the way things were I think that little creek will be permanently spooked for a while. Once I see people fishing upstream and downstream from me I'm out!

All the "poachers" are in force anymore. We had a nice spot at the dam at Tioga lake a couple of months ago when three guys just set themselves up directly across from us. California has the most rude anglers around.

I get that. I try to bring that up from time to time for people new to fishing and kids who might be watching. I never get people who would want to fish right next to people when they could walk a bit farther and be alone. Sometimes spots are taken.
