Welcome to Nicola Runs! Exploring the world one run, or race, at a time!
I'm Nicola Forwood, I love running and being outside. From parkrun to 100 milers, I love it all! From track to trail I want to share with you as many types of race format as I can. It's great to know there are so many incredible places to run, and so many different types of races to try. I've over ten years experience podcasting about parkrun and am proud to be one of the first 100 parkrunners in the world to join the 500 club.
I have been run-streaking (running every day) for over 5 years. Run-streaking helped me stay sane after my 38 year old husband died of a brain tumour. His death left me a widow, at 31, and single parent to our 2 year old Poppy.
I’m always taking on crazy running challenges because, unless you push yourself, you will never find out what you are capable of! Come with me, and let's explore parkrunworld and beyond, because life is short and the world is big!

Running Melton Mowbray parkrun at Christmas Time and Looking for Vegetarian Pork Pies!
One of the brilliant things about parkrun is the friends you make! I love that Poppy has her own parkrun tourist friends and I love the parkruns that I get to spend with mine... More often than not we are belly laughing the entire time which is priceless!
Team Woods picked Melton Mowbray parkrun as they have done lots in this area as it's closer to home for them, being the event team at Brierley Forest parkrun. A two lapper through the lovely Melton County Park, with a wonderful team, and dog agility zones that I probably got too excited about!
Well worth a visit, especially if you can make their upcoming 10th birthday!

Running Pontefract parkrun. p-Index Chasing in Winter Sunshine and the Biggest Chip Butty!
มุมมอง 1.7K12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Commitments in December meant I needed to be closer to home so I looked to parkrun goals I could still work on. I decided to work on increasing my p-index to 13 with my 13th run at Pontefract parkrun. I love this parkrun having been here sporadically over the last decade and having run at their 3rd event back in 2011. We were so lucky to run on such a beautiful morning and it was lovely to see ...
Running Cross Flatts parkrun with Sciatica - parkrun Therapy on the Most Beautiful Morning!
มุมมอง 1.2K21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I found it really hard to decide where to parkrun on this particular Saturday. I somehow ended up at Cross Flatts parkrun... I think I was driving to Middleton Woods parkrun and remembered that this parkrun was a little closer and decided to revisit. I am so thankful that I did as it was exactly what I needed. When I'm feeling sad then there's nowhere I would rather be. parkrun is just fantasti...
Crewing God's Own Backyard Ultra (GOBYU) after Running Woodhouse Moor parkrun.
มุมมอง 1.3K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
God's Own Backyard Ultra is held in Yorkshire (God's own country) at Hunters Greave in Kirkstall, Leeds. My wonderful friend Eleanor has taken part in every GOBYU... I'm pretty sure it's her favourite race! She asked me to crew her for this race, and after crewing her at the inaugural event (th-cam.com/video/jExMQXCXAR4/w-d-xo.html), I returned to help her see how far she could push herself. Co...
Hunting for a parkrun in Storm Bert. Half the UK Events Cancelled! Running Cheadle Hulme parkrun.
มุมมอง 2.3K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
The plan was to run Lancaster parkrun and so we stayed over in Lancaster on Friday night. The weather forecast was awful, with Storm Bert due to hit early Saturday morning. Friday night the team at Lancaster parkrun cancelled their event. There were a few options close enough for us to get to Saturday morning but staying in Lancaster was risky because if those nearby events cancelled then we wo...
700 PARKRUNS! Running my 700th parkrun at Potternewton on my 17th parkrun birthday!
มุมมอง 1.9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The stars aligned and I got to run my 700th parkrun on the week of my 17th parkrun birthday! I wanted to head to a parkrun close to home but one that wasn't too busy and so I chose the beautiful but very hilly Potternewton parkrun. It was such a lovely morning and great to have a chance to look back and have a moment of gratitude for the hard times parkrun has helped me get through, and to than...
Is this the Last Ever Guy Fawkes 10? Running the Birstwith Brute, Swincliffe Swine & For Fawkes Sake
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The Guy Fawkes 10 was always one of my favourite races. Ten miles of brutal hills in beautiful countryside rewarded with the biggest bag of chocolate... What could be better? Unfortunately this race always clashes with Poppy's birthday weekend so I've not had the chance to run it for absolutely years! Luckily Poppy was at a friend's birthday party and I could make it to, what looks like the las...
The parkrun With Everything-Sedgefield parkrun - Dragons, Castles, Temples. This parkrun has it all!
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
We got up super early so that we would have time to check out a new parkrun on our way from Dunbar to Leeds. Sedgefield parkrun lies just off the A1 so location wise it was perfect and being one of the older parkruns then a visit felt somewhat overdue! I'm not going to lie, this parkrun blew me away! In some small part this is due to a preconceived notion that there wasn't a lot to see at this ...

มุมมอง 1.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I couldn't resist the opportunity to check out one of Scotland's newest parkruns, Crinan Canal parkrun, while I was visiting the Mull of Kintyre. This gem of a parkrun is a must visit! Crinan itself is such a beautiful town and the views from this parkrun are unbelievable! A flat, fast, out-and-back with the added bonus of it being impossible to get lost! I would love to visit on parkrunday but...
Running the Yorkshire Marathon 2024 in Storm Ashley. Pacing for Northern Pacing Volunteers - 5 Hours
มุมมอง 2.3Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I had to pull out of this race last year due to injury so I was delighted to be at the start line with a huge pacing flag attached to my back! I absolutely love marathon pacing. I find it incredibly fun and incredibly rewarding. Storm Ashley made things interesting and this was definitely the most effort I've ever had to put into running a 5 hour marathon! Whenever there was a headwind then we ...
Celebrating 20 Years of parkrun! Running Bushy parkrun Pilgrimage on International parkrunday!
มุมมอง 2.2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Poppy ran her first official parkrun on her fourth birthday. It therefore felt fitting that she would get run her Bushy parkrun Pilgrimage on the 20th birthday of parkrun. Following on from Event 1000 where over 6,000 parkrunners descended on Bushy park then we were suitably nervous that this (event 1,005) would be another event that was realistically far too big. However, we were pleasantly su...
Running a 10km Race the Day After an Ultra Marathon. Temple Newsam Track Restoration 10km Fund Run.
มุมมอง 2.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
There was no way I was going to miss this race as it was for such a brilliant cause. It's not ideal to enter a 10km race the day after running parkrun and an ultra, but sometimes my love for running overrides my common-sense! The work that St. Theresa's Athletics Club, Crossgates Harriers, and other volunteers, have put into getting the track looking this good for the race was so heart-warming ...
Running parkrun before Running an Ultra Marathon. Harrogate parkrun & Panther Takes the Hindmost
มุมมอง 2.2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I missed my long run due to a niggle in my knee and thought the best course of action was to enter a marathon a week later... As you do! The marathon was on a Saturday so naturally I needed to run parkrun first! I headed to Harrogate parkrun and then rushed over to meet team Punk Panther to join in Panther Takes The Hindmost. In this race all runners run four qualifying 10.5km loops (a marathon...

I must begin by apologising for the terrible audio for some of this video! My camera obviously got damaged by the heavy rain at the inaugural Yorkshire Dales Marathon. I decided to release it anyway as the team at Mansfield are so special and I would have felt sad not having the memory from this fantas...

Looks a lovely course Nicola.. Happy New Year.. Keep the vids coming
Thank you 🤗 Happy New Year to you too ☺️
Loved this course, just did it a week too early!
It's lovely isn't it?! 😃
Mmm pork pies love em another informative video ❤
Can you believe that as a veggie I can't see what all of the fuss is about?! 🤷🏻♀️🤣 I honestly thought there would be a veggie version 😂
Ooh great app tip
It's fricking awesome isn't it?! AND... It works even when you have no signal! 😱
Another brill video Nicola. Glad you enjoyed Ponte Carlo.
Ponte Carlo is always ace! 😃
loved watching this one looked a good course
It was a really nice course 😃
Missed you by a few days as I came here for the Xmas day parkrun (in road shoes which was not the best choice!). As you said a variable surface course but thoroughly enjoyable.
I imagine it's totally doable in road shoes but I was definitely pleased I changed into trails! It sounds like Xmas was a busy one!
Looks a pleasant one; have walked through part of the park after I ran Belvoir; albeit I turned left at the butterflies and went over the bridge walking back towards the castle. Bit of a walk! As far as I can tell, the 1k point should be between the one you thought might have been the 1k marker and the first marker you saw, so would assume there isn't one. Obvs have a good new year, and hope Norfolk was lovely :)
YES!!! I'm taking this as a definite 'There isn't one' 😜😃 Hope you have a good new year's eve and I'm sure I'll bump into you somewhere in parkrunworld in 2025 🤗
Another cool course. I like the winding nature of the course and I agree, running under bridges like that add a little "fun" into the mix. It is pretty amazing what they can do with veggie stuff these days. Back in the good old days (I am talking the early 90s) most of the veggie food was hard to come by and usually tasted awful. I remember trying some of the early veggie burgers and just sort of "enduring" it. I am jonesing for a race but here in the northern parts of the US, race season is pretty much over. I think most race directors are afraid to hold races because of "fair weather runners" and icy conditions. We have to travel to the southern parts most of the time if we want to race. Happy New Year to you and Poppy and thanks for keeping me entertained throughout the year.
Exactly this! I remember visiting family in America 20 years ago and asking for a veggie burger and getting an empty bun with lettuce in 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Wishing you a wonderful New Year and may your races return soon! 🤗
Aww .nice surprise , i forgot it was Sunday , great run , hope you guys have a lovely 2025 xx
It's the time of year! Nobody knows what the day is 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, I learned another English thing. I've never heard of a chip butty before. I don't think I've ever seen them here in the US. I love French fries so what a treat that would be. Also, does the cafe do any business when the ParkRun isn't there? Just curious. As always cool content and I love seeing and learning what your running scene is like. Merry Christmas to you and Poppy.
Merry Christmas! Yes the racecourse always has people walking around it and there's a playground and the lake but the cafe is its busiest after parkrun! Oh my goodness you have to try a chip butty! I'm excited for you! They're delicious 😋
I think we are going here on New Year's Day, so it's great to look up the video to see what's in store!
Ooh I might be there NYD! It's here or Cross Flatts 😃
happy christmas to my fav 2 fans i did peel parkrun today and we where on course B which knocks out the football field and we run next to the river twice loved it
Ooh that sounds a great course! Happy Christmas ⛄🎁😃

Nicola's Hair Tier Week Eighteen - "Totally fine with sweating" 3/10 - Have a lovely Christmas Nicola
I don't know why these make me laugh so much?! I feel like they shouldn't but they do?! 🤷🏻♀️🤣
Always feels like a win when an opportunity arises to soak up a blast of sunshine in the depths of winter.
Exactly this! It feels such a treat doesn't it?! 😃
Happy Christmas from Ireland. Thank you for sharing your parkrun videos. I really enjoy watching them.
Thank you so much Margaret and Merry Christmas to you too 🎄🌟🎅🏼☃️
Hi Nicola, it really looks like a beautiful Spot to run. Specially when the Sun is shining on a day like this.
It definitely is and a great team there too! 😃
That just looked like so much fun. You can't beat a muddy cross country route to bring a smile to everyone's faces. (Some while running, some when finished)
You can't take yourself too seriously on a course like that, it has to be just for fun 😃🤣😂
Another awesome parkrun! Thanks so much and Merry Christmas to you and yours!❤🎉
Thanks and the same to you 🤗☃️🎅🏼🌟🎄
Hi Nicola, really enjoy watching your content, don't ever stop, your point around 8 minutes about running for your mental health is 100% bang on. Mostly why I run, this sport keeps me sane. Wishing you a lovely Christmas. Take care.
Thank you, yes I do all of my mental processing while I run so it's super important for my mental health 🤗 I hope you have a lovely Christmas too 😃🎄🎁🎅🏻🌟
I wrote the story for Peter Peregrine ❤️
No way! I love the trail and all of those beautiful sculptures! The story has made going around the racecourse so much more fun! Thank you 🤗
well done Nicola Nice place to run 👍 Wow what a lot of chips for Breakfast 😉
Probably TOO many chips for breakfast but I'm not complaining 🤷♀️🤣😋
Thanks Nicola. What an awesome video and a wonderful advert for Cross Flatts parkrun. Such a stunningly beautiful morning. Really hope the sciatica pain has eased. You're trooper for battling through. Hopefully back to full fitness soon. Thanks again. Wishing you and Poppy, the merriest of Christmases.
Thank you, it's still here ATM but I'm hoping it eases soon. This was my favourite morning at Cross Flatts parkrun so far. The light was unbelievable 😍😍😍 Hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas 🤗🎅🏻🌟🎁🎄
Hope you ate all those chips lol , happy christmas kiddo 😊🌲☃
I definitely did! 😋😃 Wishing you a wonderful Christmas 🎄🎁🌟🎅🏻
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎅
Thank you 😃 You too! 🎅🏻🌟🎁🎄
That is insane chip butty, bet you didn't eat all those chips( enough for three!)
I almost did but alas I was defeated. I gave it a bloody good go though! 💪🏻
In some countries, a chip butty like that would be considered as a marriage proposal.
Merry Christmas, Nicola and Poppy! I’m just checking the forecast for Christmas morning here in OZ. A minimum of 20°C overnight, heading to a max of 37°C. It will be about 25°C for 8am parkrun. Ideal for the middle of summer.
Oh my goodness! I was thinking it's a warm 8 degrees here 🤣 Hope you're having a wonderful Christmas... It's already arrived for you guys! 😃🎅🏻🌟🎁🎄
Merry Christmas! 🥳🎅🏼🎄
Thank you, you too! 😃🎅🏻🌟🎁🎄
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
Thank you 😃 Xmas Day parkrun = My favourite. NYD parkrun= One of my worst because of my fuzzy head and not enough sleep! 🤣🤣🤣
As someone who has suffered with varying degrees of back pain for last 10+years I can totally relate to that feeling! On top of that I’m not fit n mid 50’s so parkrun can feel a bit of a slog but it has become my addiction and I find your videos so inspiring Nicola! Hope ur back pain sorts itself out and merry Xmas to you and Poppy 🎉
Thank you so much, it's such a great addition to have isn't it?! 😃 I hope you have a great Christmas that includes a Christmas Day parkrun 😉
merry christmas and well Done for getting out and completing the park run 🏃♀️
Thank you, it'll take more than this to make me miss parkrun 🙃 Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄🎁🎅🏻🌟
@ Keep on Keeping on 👍 Have a wonderful christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas Nicòla and Poppy
Thanks Tony, the same to you and yours 🤗🌟🎁🎅🏻
Some beautiful scenes of sunshine and mysterious mist thanks for sharing this video Nicola 👍🏻🫶🏻 I might take my camera and do this parkrun in 2025
This stunning morning light made my day! 😍 it's a lovely community if you visit 😃
Merry Christmas from Santy 🎅🏃♀🏞🎄
Thanks and right back at you 😃😃😃
Sending you healing vibes for Christmas Nicola ❤ Cross Flatts is a local one for me, one time there was someone with a full drum kit in the park providing a running soundtrack.
Thank you 🤗 Oh wow! I'd have loved that! 😃😃😃
did Heaton park today and beat my PB by 1 second finishing 62th out of 698 happy christmas to you and Poppy
Ooh that was lucky! An early Xmas present! 😃😃😃
Ouch xxx bless you and I hope you feel much better soon, sciatica is no fun xx
Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wow that light was stunning ! I agree my favourite running conditions too Love the name of the parkrun when it’s not flat, maybe “Happy hills” instead 😂
Or I'm Cross it's not Flatt(s) 🤣🤣🤣 The light though?! 😍😍😍😍😍
Well done for completing that when you're in so much pain. Really hope it improves soon x
Thanks so much 🥰🥰🥰
Wow well done Eleanor! That's amazing! And well done Nicola for being an amazing volunteer support 👏
Isn't she awesome! 😎😃
OMG, I love Parkrun, I really love the vibe and I really enjoy your videos Nicola. You have really inspired me to run more and to relax about my run times and just be part of something bigger. I hope that your back is better soon, the sun will heal you
Thank you so much. Yes exactly this! I'm so happy you've found you can relax into it, it's so much more enjoyable then 😃 I still race for time but parkrun is completed with happiness as the primary objective 🤗
That park run looked familiar. I wonder if I've seen other TH-camrs film it. That was indeed some beautiful sun shots. It looked like an incredible morning for a run. I hope your back pain gets better. I had a version of it about 18 months ago and some days I could run several miles and sometimes just a few feet. It took a bit of time to get over. Also interesting to see how many Vegan runners there are out there. I usually don't see many runners like that here in the US (I see more with the pro beef shirts). Merry Christmas to you and Poppy and thanks for taking me along on your running adventures.
Yes I think I just need to be patient which I'm not great at 🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣
Sorry to hear about the back pain, Nicola, hope it eases quickly for you as that must be tough. We enjoyed our visit to Cross Flatts, just up the hill from no.2 son so he came along and ran with us - but it's A LOT HILLIER that it appears on your video! Hope you enjoy the festive season.
After running Durlston then it was less hilly than I remember 🙃 I guess it's all about perspective 😊 Thanks... Fingers crossed for my silly back 🤞🏻
Nicola's Hair Tier Week Seventeen "Cross Plaits/Bun Briefing" 8/10. Happy Christmas Nicola
Cross plaits is BRILLIANT 🤣🤣🤣
A Morning Run at this beautiful Sunshine should motivate everyone to run. 👍.
Exactly this 😍😍😍
Stunning cinematography; low sun and mist, an inspiring start to your day. The filming is high quality as always but it's clear you're not on your A game. We've seen you take on a parkrun and 5 marathons before, during and after a root canal. I'm pretty certain something isn't right, but it's fabulous to see you smiling. Oh I feel ya...I thought I had sciatica last year so went to our friendly local chiropractor. After manipulating me in odd ways told me in a stern and direct tone that my glutes are too weak and I need a better chair. It turns out I needed to sort out some IT band and buttock issues and feel ok now. Can you do hard things, no doubt there...!!
Awwww thank you 🤗 my runners knee was caused by weak glutes so maybe you're onto something! 😱

@BillyBobJoeSnr I've got everything crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻😃
Cross Flatts, my first ever parkrun, 5 1/2 years ago, when the steep part was steps. My cousin at Sandal park has the same condition and works around it with bike and swimming. I wish you well and all the best for the holidays.
Thank you, yes I might try swimming. Cycling is good 😊 And I remember the steps well! I used to have to skirt around the other way with Poppy in the running buggy! 🤣
What heavenly sunlight! I hope the sciatica will pass soon!
Thank you 🙏🏻 It was stunning! I was so happy to just be there out in the sunlight 😍
Oh no! Hope the Sciatica has done one and doesn’t spoil the Christmas Parkrunning Lighting looked spectacular 🤩
Thank you so much 🤗
