The cruise lines my wife and I use (Viking and Oceania) operate differently. We arrive 20 to 30 minutes after our cabin level time opens. We book our excursions and specialty restaurants (no extra charge) well before the cruise starts.

The biggest disadvantage to the late check in is that you either need to lunch on your own or have a late lunch on board (say 2:30pm) which throws off your whole day since then dinner will be late also. That's one counter argument for the earlier check in time and waiting in line.

Mattress suck even with a topper... ive considered bring a foam topper of my own... we had 2 toppers on the Firenze and it was still HAF

On our last cruise those servers were guarding the donkey sauce like they had to pay for it themselves. No matter what burger you ordered, if you didn’t specifically say “please add donkey sauce” they wouldn’t add it, even if the menu said that burger came with the sauce. That sauce needs to be in the self serve bar with all the other sauces.

Jamaica was awful! We were on the Carnival Shiprocked cruise last year that damaged the dock there. The ship had to go out to sea for repairs, so we were stuck dealing with EXTREMELY aggressive vendors with no option to leave. I had to put my hands on one, was so worried about getting arrested in a foreign country. It was okay ultimately, but wow, never again!
