    Love the reaction and the series while historically maybe not perfect the acting by Jodi Colmer is top notch. Defiantly an excellent successor to TWQ's Rebecca Ferguson in terms of reflecting the leading females personalities and steel.

    Salut, Estelle! Anne here in Los Angeles - saw firebrand last night in the cinema and my jaw was ON THE FLOOR !!! I could not believe how perfect the performances were. Jude law maybe gives the best performance of his illustrious career. I actually hasn’t read Fremantle book prior so I was surprised by the ending - and satisfied greatly !! It is a fine example as I say as someone who consults on historical productions of the team knowing the rules so well, that they’re able to break them. :) brilliant film, brilliant performances I want to see it again and again. 👏🏻👏🏻 also, as a lifelong champion for Anne Askew she gets her dues here, the firebrand title easily attributed to her as well as Parr, I think it’s meant for both. Pleasant surprise. Did I say Jude law was OUT OF THIS WORLD?! ❤👏🏻 Another great video from Dr. P, merci!

    I think Wolf Hall does a great job of showing Anne Boleyn mastering her private emotions in a highly stressful situation. There are numerous occasions throughout the show when her humanity is shown - perhaps the problem is that some people don't like the intellegent, scheming, and narcissistic human being that's being portrayed. It's not like there's any shortage of primary sources that present this view of Anne Boleyn. Of course, these sources tend to be biased against her but that doesn't make her portrayal in Wolf Hall unhistorical. As to a telling of the story from her point of view, if there's been one of those, there's been a hundred. I don't see there being much to gain from yet another portrayal of the same well known story from the same well known perspective.

    I think one of the interesting things that I learned was that she thought that after the death of Anne Boleyn, she would be treated better by her father, but she learned quickly that it wasn't the case. She learned his behavior was still erratic and unpredictable.

    I need to point out that, though Isabel was perfectly capable of high-handedness, she was also perfectly aware of the importance of diplomacy and that her trademark self-reminder was "con blandura" - "with tact". It feels to me that, especially toward the end of this scene, we are not seeing Isabel as she would have acted toward visiting monarchs (much as I despise Henry VII, that's what he is here). Also you are correct - neither Henry nor Elizabeth visited the Iberian Peninsula. And Isabel and Fernando did not ever go to England. You are also correct that there was a friendly correspondence between Isabel and Elizabeth. Also, the language to be spoken here would actually have been Latin, which Isabel took pains to learn in her adult life precisely for important meetings and paperwork. Henry, Isabel and Fernando would all have known Latin, and presumably Elizabeth would have had at least some knowledge of it. So the basis of this scene is unnecessary. It is, however, a good, strong scene, and it plays well.

    well, I'm not really a fan of The White Princess, even though it used to be my favorite in the saga, but now my favorite is The White Queen, because it's more accurate and overall more respectful to the actual story (even though on costume level I prefer TWP, and I can blame it on obvious stinginess of BBC🤣) And the meeting between Elizabeth of York, Henry VII and Isabel Of Castile, although it's powerful scene, I kinda don't like it after revisiting after so many years, because I just unconsciously compare everything about that sequence with the Spanish TV show Isabel. have you watched it?

    Can I just say, it was wonderful to see with my daughter and granddaughter. We laughed and had fun. We were three generations of women who played with Barbies. It was just a silly fun movie not to be taken to seriously. Behind the scenes you teach your daughters there worth. There is an incredible speech by America about trying to be a woman that my daughter cried through. Is it wrong for just once us women get to have a little “dig” at the men?

    It is a great point that when you actually act out the written account of Thomas Seymour cutting Elizabeth's dress it is so bizzare and uncomfortable and you just can't understand what is going on in Katharine Parr's head - why is she laughing? Even by the standards of the day it would not seem a normal thing to do. Is it, possibly, a kind of a neurotic reaction because she knows what this is about but cannot bring herself to acknowledge it and that is why she is awkwardly laughing along?

  • @renata8979
    @renata8979 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    There is a TV version of the this book, which is very unconventional and low-budget, but it is quite the opposite of this movie's approach - the movie tries very hard to make it clear who is evil and who is the salt of the earth, whereas the show is smoother around the edges and more human. A side note - huge fan of Eric Bana, but this got to be the blandest Henry the VIII I have ever seen. On one hand it is to be expected because by design of the story he is less of a character and more of an element, if you will, of the story. But Henry VIII is such a Character that it takes an actual effort to water him down this much.

    I agree with your choice of Genevieve Bujold's portrayal of Anne Boleyn...even if the costumes were a bit too gaudy for my more elegant tastes in that film...which I loved as an eager boy...always fascinated by screen versions of real people. But Nathalie Dormer failed for me: I think I would have sent her to Tower Green if I'd been Henry! Let's just say the 'chemistry' with J.R.Meyers? was too 'sexualised'...(& he wasn't big enough to recreate HVIII). And I too, have often reacted chemically with actresses on screen!. I thought Claire Foy was very good...& Helena B-C...though, so often, it seems that merely wearing Tudor costumes & speaking in the King's English, is enough to transport them back to the royal court & beds...& scaffolds! Alas, the 'actresses' need something beyond mere appearance to capture the real Anne Boleyn...and I look forward to reading your interpretation of such a 'legendary' figure in English history. I'm sure you will have a new perspective on her without you losing your lovely head!

    As a straight 'disciple' of Dr David Starkey, a Tudor expert...I must express myself as a 'proper little Renaissance man' (his words, not mine!)...Lady Estelle! You really get to the nub of the true history of the whole Reformation in England & France. Your brilliant contributions only add more to the debate which has raged for centuries over Henry VIII's six wives...& from a French perspective too! You have a style all of your own in your 'broadcasts', madame...quite the fine lady of a royal court...full of intriguing insights, hidden meanings & individuality & enthusiasm. If you had been at Greenwich Palace or Hampton Court...at that time...I can only imagine the influence you might have had on the King himself...let alone the male courtiers! Keep up the flag of historical research & vivat regina...Catherine, Anne or Jane...though Estelle might prefer to keep a distance...& keep that wonderful head! (I hope you see my point!)
