That was a marvelous interview. Thank you. Anne of Cleves is my favorite because she outwitted him a bit.

Absolute power seems to corrupt absolutely. I think he was a miserable monster.

super interesting! my question is, what word did they use during HVIII's reign for what we now would call a mistress then?

Leman, I think. See the William Cornish song Hey Robin, Jolly Robin ( words by Thomas Wyatt.

Eustace Chapuys, the ambassador of the Holy Roman Emperor, called Anne the 'Concubine'..

Maîtresse-en-titre or even Courtesan. Depends on where you stood in the whole drama.

😻🏵️Perhaps Henry did at first want Henry as mistress in the french tradition. As isnt it the custom for french males to have a mistress,in a sort of official capacity .His line in the letter where he says making Anne is only mistress ,if he does mean wife in the legal sense.Would that be him telling Anne he is going to have is marriage to Katherine of Aragon annulled?

🏵️😻Mrs in English is the shortened version of Mistress for a married woman, though as pointed out in the video ,nowadays means an unmarried woman having an affair with a married man .Perhaps in 16th century France and England it meant both.King Francois had an official mistress referred to has his Maistre de titre ( Grande horizontale)excuse my french and this is not Queen Eleanor
