Hey Dave, another terrific video and will be looking into those films that you featured by Alan Pakula, Just wanted to let you know that there is five seasons to the six Million dollar, man and 6 tv films. Just to give you a heads up. Take care of my friend be well
Thanks very much. I forgot about the Six Million Dollar Man TV films so thanks for mentioning. Take care and hope you have a good week.
Cool stuff Dave. I have the Blu-ray sets of the original Star Trek series. The thing I thought was cool was that they redid some of the special effects and you could choose which way to watch them or toggle between both to compare. I haven't seen any other Star Trek series but I do have the 4k sets of season one and two of Star Trek, Strange New Worlds. Anyway, Great stuff and info!
Thanks. I am surprised that I do like the added special effects and am really enjoying my rewatch of Star Trek TOS. Do you recommend Strange New Worlds?
@@CinemaDaveMedia I don't know yet. I haven't watched it. But it does have story ties to the original series.
@@michaelthemovieattic Oh good to know, let me know what you think when you get to it. Thanks!
I purchase a lot of TV box sets on digital too, because I don’t want to have to rely on expensive streaming services. Let’s face it, streaming prices keep climbing and paying a bundle price for my favourite TV series is worth it.
Same here, it's nice to have favorite TV shows on digital for convenience (and because I watch some series so often over and over). With streaming services constantly increasing prices, it's nice to have other options. There are some must have services (Criterion as an example for me) but I feel like I will be at a point where I can stop other services given what I have to watch on physical media and my digital library.
@@CinemaDaveMedia Exactly! I feel like we can both cut back a little on streaming services now that our physical and digital collections have grown teehee!
Dave like to hear your thoughts on the SMDM when you are guys done. I'm in the middle of season 4 of SMDM and season 2 of the Bionic Woman they have quite afew cross over episodes.
Thanks, will definitely let you know my thoughts when I am watching SMDM. I still need to pickup season 4 and 5.
Klute is on my list for the next flash sale. When does the next one day flash sale usually occur for Criterion?
@@entcave Klute is a classic in my humble opinion. Next flash sale Might be October (though never sure each year) but I usually wait until the longer Barnes and Noble sale in November.
TOS is my favorite Trek and probably second only to The Simpsons as my favorite TV of all time. Just love the dynamics of those characters.
Same here, I'm really enjoying my rewatch of Star Trek TOS - brings back so many memories. Even like the remastering and added bits.
Her should be in Criterion
@@AlonsoRules Yes, good film.
It’s 😢sad that so many BigLots are closing. It like the end of an era.
@@johnbaker6572 Yes, very sad news. My wife and I really enjoyed going there plus there were always good deals on films and TV shows. End of an era for sure.
Watched 2 Carol Lombard's, the first, the Hitchcock Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Both Robert Montgomery and Lombard are great in it. But the 2nd, Twentieth Century really charmed me no end with John Barrymore giving a once in a lifetime performance and when he spars with Lombard, it's endlessly entertaining. Great supporting cast in Twentieth Century too. So, that's what I've been watching lately.
@@paulb111 Oh I love Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Wonderful film, so underrated. I have Twentieth Century too, another good film. Thanks for sharing what you are watching.
That copy of Richard III looks great. What a cast!
@@VanessaButtino Yes, love the cast. Interesting interpretation of Richard III though I do like the Olivier version better.
Very nice pickups 🛻 Dave
@@kennyjones6369 Thanks, hope all is well.
I am going to pick up Dune Pt 2, but I was disappointed in how it departed even further from the book than part 1 (and essentially dropped my favorite character-toddler Alia).
Wow, good to know. I am looking forward to watching since I enjoyed Part One so much.
@@CinemaDaveMedia It’s a good movie and well done. These are objections that the book fans seem to have more. One major character is dropped and the relationship between two others is almost the opposite of what it is in the book.
@@joshua2814 Oh thanks for mentioning this. I can definitely understand the objections when the movie eliminates favorite characters and story lines from the book. I reread Jaws this year too and was surprised at how many differences I found between the book and the movie.
I haven’t picked up much lately. I did get Dune Part Two, Miami Vice Complete Series, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga this summer.
@@brianreynolds4931 Wow, great pickups. Do you recommend Furiosa?
@@CinemaDaveMedia, I am a big fan of Mad Max: Fury Road, but I was a little apprehensive of Furiosa. It didn’t take long watching it for the familiar look and feel of Fury Road to win me over pretty quick. I really enjoyed it. I preordered it and I see it came out on Max at the same time.
@@brianreynolds4931 Thanks, good to know. I will check it out on Max.
I mentioned this channel
That Scorsese trilogy I have my eye on, some superb films on it like Silence that very few people know about it.
@@zakwan10 Yes, agreed. The box set is so well done, highly recommend.

@@MrTosh120 Wow, cool finds. I wish there were more stores that still had films and TV shows here.
Socerer is indeed a remake of the French film, Wages Of Fear. Friedkin put his own spin on it, but it is a remake. I think Friedkin’s movie is way better; a rare case where the American remake is better than the foreign original.
@@charlesheck6812 Yes, I agree.
I’m not into much modern TV myself, but both of my parents and my best friend were really into “Walking Dead” and then quit it in the late seasons because they found it too dark and cynical (what Jess called the people being the bad guys).
If you’ve never seen the TV series called Penny Dreadful, I would recommend it. I think you and Jessi would really enjoy it. Great cast and fantastic story-telling. Along the same lines as Penny Dreadful, Ripper Street is also very good.
@@VanessaButtino Thanks for the recommendation. Added to our list now.
My Cousin Vinny is fantastic! When it came out, my whole family watched it together and we were so proud that it featured Italians in the cast 😂
@@VanessaButtino Yes, I agree - we loved it. Such a good film.
You are watching more modern TV shows, I'm a product of growing up in the 70s and 80s I'm watching more shows from that Era and before. I myself don't binge watch a show, I can't do 3,4 or 5 of the same show. An example of Friday night I watch Dallas 2 episodes and X-Files 2 episodes until done I'm half through had never watched them when they were on, Dallas is just a fun show to watch it would nice as a group watch. And Saturday night is Six Million Dollar man and Dynasty 2 episodes each. Sorry if this is to long Dave.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Same here, I can't binge watch too much but might see 1 or 2 episodes a day, might skip a day here and there too. Thanks for the show recommendations, love all of the ones you mentioned. I'd like to rewatch Six Million Dollar Man soon (have the series on DVD). Hope you have a great week.
@@CinemaDaveMedia Your welcome Dave, I agree with you. One of the other things, I do is I have 5 dics dvd player and during Monday-Thursday after work and around supper time, I watch a couple shows in a row Dark Shadows, Merlin , Starsky and Hutch, Have Gun Will Travel, Sanford and Son and the half hour show I usually switch with other shows season for season Hogan's Heroes, Bewitched etc.
@@sshrul Oh wow, that sounds fun. Nice to have a few different shows in rotation.
Another fun video, I agree Letterbox must include tv series as well, I have 3 to recommend Monk, Rizzoli and Isles and Kids on the Hall. I got them on dvd and I’ve seen them before, but they’re really cool to revisit, I’m a huge Angie Harmon fan So I must’ve watched the series at least three times already and it’s cool. Her parents on the show are.Chazz Palmanteri and Lorraine Bracco. Fun series to watch set in Boston take care, my friend. Have a great week.
Thanks very much. Love your TV show recommendations. I have seen a few episodes of Monk and know that I will enjoy and I remember seeing Kids In The Hall years ago. Hope you have a great week too!
Wow. You get so much more out of streaming than we do. We tend to do the usual looking for something to watch and end up watching nothing. I get Apple TV+ free with my bank account, Amazon Prime Video because we use Prime shopping and BBC iPlayer because it comes with our TV license, but we find there’s such little quality to watch these days. My big recommendation is Slow Horses on Apple TV and I’m really looking to the 4th series starting soon. For TV shows, especially since we cut the cord, Apple TV 4K has been a game changer. Easy to use and such highly quality is very noticeable but the ability to have new episodes suddenly pop up is the best thing. Everything in one place, no separate apps. Just watched Carlito’s Way on Arrow 4K which was a delight. Brian de Palma always amazes me. Have a great week both.
Do you not do content any more with Movie Chatter? I always enjoyed those videos but haven't been around either of your channels in a while.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Those livestreams ended earlier this year.
Great Episode as always. I didn't realize it but Nick Cassavetes is Gena Rowland's son. It must have been interesting when they were making the Notebook. Cheers !
Thanks. Wow, didn't know that either. Hope you have a great week.
The Changeling. George C. Scott
For anyone who really cares about film, do yourself a favor and watch at least one or two Casavetes pictures. Btw, Gena Rowlands pronounced her name "Jenna". RIP Gena, you will never be replaced.
@@martinfarinha Yes, agreed. Love this box set.
@@CinemaDaveMedia thanks for the reply, Dave. Just a quick question, who would you regard as the true artists of the medium, the people who have really shaped the art of cinema? For me starting with Hollywood's pioneers I would begin with John Ford, Howard Hawks and Orson Welles.
@@martinfarinha Not easy to pick favorites but some (for me) are Sidney Lumet, Ingmar Bergman, Aki Kaurismäki, David Lynch, Frank Capra, Alfred Hitchcock, John Cassavetes, Kelly Reichardt, Andrei Tarkovsky, Martin Scorsese, Robert Altman, many others.
@@CinemaDaveMedia that is an excellent list. I was born a stones throw from where Hitchcock grew up and I was lucky enough to meet Robert Altman a year or so before he passed.
I don't usually use subtitles, only when it's a foreign movie do I usually. But I remember the Criterion Blu-Rays having very difficult subs to read. It's thin letters and no outline, so the white letters can blend into bright colors on the screen.
I've been watching The Walking Dead on bluray got to Season 9 I have a 7.1.4 atmos system - dialogue is crystal clear on that because the mix pushes it to the center speaker with a lot of the effects/music resigned to the surround speakers. much better. I have all the CC40 titles so won't buy it but I do like the idea. My first Criterion title was Robocop on DVD
@@letstalkcriterion That’s great. We just finished The Walking Dead over the weekend and now starting the Daryl Dixon series. I don’t plan on getting the CC40 set either since I have most of the films. Cool that you have the Criterion release of Robocop.
Another terrific and interesting video Dave
@@kennyjones6369 Thanks!

Nice picks. I grabbed ‘A Fitful of Dollars’ and ‘For a Few Dollars More’. To my surprise, both came with slip covers! makes me happy.
@@Bob-Savage Thanks! Slipcovers make me happy too, I feel so lucky if I get a film with one.
@@CinemaDaveMedia it was a nice surprise. I bought ‘Good, Bad, and the Ugly’ bluray last sale, and got a slip, so I was hoping to see these come with one as well. Completes the set and looks nice on the shelf.
Nice pickups, Dave! Play Misty for Me is my favorite Eastwood movie. Enjoy!
@@20thand21stMovies Thanks James. I love Kino Lorber, great sale prices too.
Nice picks! I almost grabbed Play Misty for Me. Maybe next time. I snagged a couple of DVD to Bluray upgrades for my collection (Russian Ark and Brick) as well as some new stuff: The Atomic Cafe, The Last Laugh (such a great film), and Dr. Who - Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.
Thanks! Sounds like you picked up some amazing films too. I love the Kino sales, makes collecting more affordable.
I'll have to check some of those out. You mentioned how you like how easy it is to see the year of the film on the back. Completely agree and also that they have it really easy to see the run time as well.
Yes, I love the Kino Lorber label for so many reasons and having the year and runtime easy to see is very helpful.
I watched “Play Misty For Me” on Netflix years ago. It was okay.
It's been awhile since I've seen the film so hopefully it's good on the rewatch.
So happy you managed to pick up a copy of The Brink’s Job. As a fan of Peter Falk I know you’re going to love it. I’m a huge fan of Warren Oates and as always he’s great. Enjoy and have a great weekend.
Yes, happy I picked up The Brink's Job too (thanks for recommending). I am a fan of Warren Oates too. Hope you have a great weekend.
It would probably make you cringe to know that if the slipcover matches the cover art, I just throw it out. I figure every 100 or so probably equals the space of another blu-ray and I’d rather have the extra space and quicker access (unless the cover is different art).
I know what you mean when the slips/covers match which is too common. They look better on the shelf though.
Definitely a good option not to keep the slipcover if you need the space. Thanks for watching and hope you have a great weekend.
This is a great idea! I think you've inspired me to share my own
Dave, glad y’all enjoyed Perfect Days as well. Such a good movie! Thanks for sharing your cassette collection.
@@20thand21stMovies Thanks James. It’s one of my favorite films of 2023, so quiet and creative. As I get older, I am so thankful for a simpler life where I can read, listen to music, and enjoy nature. Hope you have a great rest of the week.
Thank you for sharing your cassette collection with us! Growing up, we had a very musical household so we were always listening to records and tapes. I wish I had kept my cassettes - they were stored in a leather briefcase-style case. Sometimes, I would open it up and just stare at all the spines, making lists in my mind of all my favourites.

@@alexvillarreal6039 We really loved it, so simple yet amazing. One of my favorite films now of 2023.
I am casually searching for a good tape player at Goodwill. I have too many old cassettes (some not available in other formats) to give up on them.
I have also been occasionally shopping for another tape player. I have a portable cassette player now but the speaker is broken so definitely need a backup/replacement.
Perfect Days was my favourite film of last year. Neat to see your cassette collection too.. cheers :)
@@84paratize Thanks. One of my favorite films of last year too.
Glad to see you enjoying our wonderful British artists from back in the day 😀 I also like Nick Lowe and especially Elvis Costello. I lived in Japan for most of the 90s and I was fortunate enough to catch him at The Royal Albert Hall in the mid 90s during a short trip back home. He and The Attractions were doing three dates as part of a reunion of sorts which turned into an incredible night. Although I don’t have any original cassettes or vinyl any more, I do have some of the original 80s mastered CDs which all sound like I first remember them. Regards to Jessie and enjoy your week.
Wow, so cool that you saw Costello at The Royal Albert Hall. I saw EC and The Attractions first in 1982 (one of my first concerts) with Talk Talk opening. Still a big fan and saw him recently in NY last year with Nick Lowe opening (also amazing to see in concert). Hope you have a great rest of the week.
@@CinemaDaveMedia Talk Talk as in the late great Mark Hollis? Wowl! I thought they were so cool the first time I saw them perform on TV in the early 80s and so desperately wanted to see them live but I was too young. I really didn’t think they had much success in The States with them being just a small band and having a very British sound (and look). Of course their last 2 albums are timeless and are wonderful pieces to listen to today.
@@modestyblaise4167 Yes, absolutely. I became an instant fan of Talk Talk after the show. Totally agree that the last two albums are amazing. The second time I saw Costello the following year (same location), Aztec Camera opened and I love that band too and still listen to their songs every week.
@@CinemaDaveMedia Aztec Camera? You sure you don’t have British roots? lol. They weren’t so big here but of course were legends in Scotland, naturally. Growing up in the 70s, my first love of music was all things Bowie. I then went on to getting into New Wave music from both sides of the pond (The Cars being a great US band) and late 70s/early 80s electronic bands. I still remember my first ever concert I went to in 1983 was Gary Numan as he played at the local concert hall, unlike most bigger artists. It gave me the live concert bug but as I say, I never got to see Talk Talk 😢 The closest I got to was when an ex-boyfriend gave me a live bootleg tape, which of course I loved, lol.
@@modestyblaise4167 Oh yes, love Aztec Camera (I must listen to their cover of Jump a few times a week). When I was younger (and still to this day), I was always into British bands. I saw Squeeze play on the east coast when I was in high school. Huge Bowie fan too. I love going to see live music though mostly couch tour these days watching livestreams. I still remember the energy of Talk Talk playing their entire first album live, loved it!
We’ve all had so much rain this summer, it’s been wild! I think Toronto has set a record for most rainfall ever in Summer since, like, the 1930s 😅
