I collect physical media and talk about films and TV. I love boutique labels like Criterion, Indicator, Kino Lorber, Warner Archive, Arrow, Radiance, Imprint and others. My videos are about my movie and TV collection, film study and review, unboxing new releases, collection tours, livestreams and much more.

I don’t know if you play any games but there is any movie linking games called cine2nerdle I think you’d like it
Great listen, guys, thanks!
@@MyFireVideos Thanks!
Sounds like a good focus for 2025! I, too, am planning on watching a lot of my backlog.
Do you like part 1 or 2 better? I think I lean towards part 1. Can't wait for part 3, Dune Messiah.
@@MyFireVideos I think we liked part 1 a little better than part 2. Looking forward to Dune Messiah also.
Interesting point about second movies in a series being better than the first ones - I’ve always thought LOTR The Two Towers was the best of the trilogy
@@VanessaButtino Yes seems like many first films in a trilogy for example spend lots of time world building which makes sense but so often the second film is much better.
Thanks so much for talking about Dune! I just watched part 1 and 2, and from my point of view (I read the first 5 books) these movies are doing a superior job in bringing the story to the screen. I was expecting part 2 to get further along in the story, though. It was great to see all of the tech and gear come to life, but the books of course covered more of the relations of paul and the other characters. All of the chapters of Herbert's books are heavily prefaced with a "historical backstory" of the bene gesserit, ecology of the planet, etc (a sort of galactic encyclopedia), and the books actually have a glossary of all the different language terms. I don't want to say that the movies are not comprehensible to someone who hasn't read them, but I completely understand the struggle to figure out how everything fits together. One theme that struck me when reading the books (and brought to life in the movies) was the existence of cultures that had access to spacetravel, etc, but still lived their lives in an uncluttered, sparse, minimal, almost primitive style.
Thanks for your comment and sharing your thoughts about Dune. We loved part 1 and 2. I enjoyed all of the tech also. Personally, I am often challenged with a more complicated story and so many characters but it just means that I will be watching the movies again and again to get new understanding and meaning. I am sure that the historical backstory elements of the books might help at some point also.
You have to re-watch the first film to really immerse yourself in the Dune-iverse.
@@Holland_Oates Oh yes, we love the first film also. We did rewatch last year but will definitely do it again before watching Dune 2 again.
I'm so sorry that happened to you! I have no evidence of companies deleting digital library movies and shows but That's why physical Media is always my goto, no corporation is gonna break into my house and take my 4k Blu rays! Lol
@@roseclark5623 Thanks, it’s the first time anything like that has happened. All the more reason to keep collecting physical media.
Doing the research on the certain streaming titles have been reported to vanish and it seems to be a frustrating mess.
@@80sMadeConsumer Yes, very frustrating for sure. Hoping it’s a rare occurrence but you never know these days.
I like Jaws 2 more than 1 and I like all the Back to the Future movies, but 3 is my favorite.
@@80sMadeConsumer Thanks for sharing your favorites. I really enjoy all of the Jaws and Back To The Future films too.
It’s funny I don’t own a single David Lynch film.
@@80sMadeConsumer The Straight Story is really good and unlike his other films. It’s a Disney film, rated G and one of my favorites. Simple story but so well done.
While I do stream, I almost never download/buy a digital movie. The only exception is Rifftrax because 95% of their stuff they can’t release physically (much of it you just download an audio track). I don’t even redeem the digital copies that come with my purchases because it wouldn’t even occur to me to watch something digitally I have physically. It’s just a mental block, though. I’m old school enough to think “if I can’t touch it, I don’t own it.”
Hey, both. Interesting vlog today. Your loss of That’s Life isn’t the first time we’ve heard this. According to a new Californian law, they’ve blocked the term ‘buy’ for digital media, meaning it’s more like a long term lease that can be terminated. We’re never heading down that route - ever! Regarding That’s Life, there’s an official Spanish release DVD of it if that helps. I agree that Empire Strikes Back is the best as it had the hardest job to follow Star Wars which essentially was a complete film, never intended as a franchise. To make it work naturally without it feeling contrived was quite the achievement which set it up for Jedi to bring everything to the conclusion. I have a soft spot for Jedi but I do feel it was used to expand on the family backgrounds and to bring everything to a close … again. Keep warm and have a great week.
Hello and hope you are doing well. Thanks for giving some details on the California law about buying versus leasing digital media. This is the first time I've experienced losing a movie especially one of my favorites. For me, having a digital library is more for convenience and most digital copies come from physical media that I've purchased so at least if the movie gets removed for some reason, I still have the Blu-ray or 4K. Thanks for mentioning the Spanish release of the film on DVD, will need to pick that up. We've been watching more movies lately including Dune and Star Wars and, most recently, Gladiator and Gladiator 2. Surprisingly, we really liked Gladiator 2 even though most people said it was terrible. We went in with very low expectations because of that and really enjoyed the movie. Basically the same story, no big surprises or anything but some decent VFX and performances (we thought Denzel Washington's performance was really good for example). Cold and windy here today and we are hoping for an early spring (unlikely). Hope you have a great week.
@ Yep, let me know if I can help with acquiring the Spanish DVD for you. Our digital library is small as we don’t get the free digital copy with 4K purchases like you do in the U.S. We have a stack of Play Anywhere codes but it seems somewhat impossible for us to make a U.S. Apple account here. Gladiator isn’t my thing apart from the hunky bods 😳 but my husband does have the first on 4K which he enjoys.
@@MsModestyBlaise Thanks very much. Jessi and I were laughing because we thought "hunky bods" sounded like a good band name. 🤣
@@CinemaDaveMedia I wish. I’d hire ‘The Hunky Bods’ in a flash irrespective of the quality of their music. I’m thinking 80s style oil & spandex 😳
My collection is mostly stuff I've seen and enjoyed and hopefully will want to watch again (though I do own titles that I love but never put them into the player, like "Gone Girl"). But I also occasionally collect Criterion Collection. I live in Europe, so our Region 2 selection is very small, but I like to buy occasionally some of their titles. And CC is the only label I can do a blind buy. I've bought a lot of movies from them blind and most of the times it was a success (like "His Girl Friday", which was just a lucky buy). So maybe if they release something that I've heard about or wanted to see I will blind buy it. All the other times I just have a big listt of movies I liked and if some of them gets price reduction then I will get them for my shelf.
@@rsienicki Wow, great approach on collecting. I also mostly collect films and TV shows that I’ve seen and plan to watch again. I’m focusing on collecting boutique label titles mostly this year like Kino Lorber, Warner Archive, and Criterion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic.
Number 5 movie is my favorite.
It's a classic!
Good luck! It’s nothing like Gladiator in tone, unfortunately
Thanks. Loved my rewatch of Gladiator. My expectations are low for the new one but will see.
We did the same, Gladiator 2 was a disappointment.
Yes, I'm open but getting ready for a disappointment.
@ It was ok, just nowhere near as good as the first.
What about VHS?
@@lastunctives2095 Oh I love VHS and have a small collection, would love to collect more.
Truly astonishing blue ray collection
@@TheMovies_HD Thanks!
There are 3 movies that i watched over 15 times within a two week span, The Matrix(og on vhs) Avatar: The Way Of Water and Dune Part two. I actually went to the theater twice for Dune part two, and when it hit hbo i watched it every day for a week(twice a day for the first 2 days). I loved it. Definitely one of my all time favorites
I'm looking to pick up Ugetsu and Anora when they come out on Criterion. Haven't picked up much lately because I was hurting a bit after buying holiday gifts. But recently picked up the new Se7en 4K, and the Shout Select 4K edition of one of my favourite Herzog films.. Aguirre, The Wrath of God. All the best in the new year Dave, love your videos!
@@kieranrondeau5198 Thanks so much for sharing what you picked up and your plans for Criterion purchases this year. I really appreciate your comment and kind words. All the best to you too this year.
Another excellent video, Dave. I started winding down my collecting as of last year and going into this year and concentrating on watching what i have, instead waiting for the apocalypse. Im not going out and collecting like i use to if I come across something that i want to pick up. I'll pick it up. My collection is pretty much where i want it afew more show if i come across, i don't bother with modern show you seen once you don't need to see anymore. 5 dics DVD player are awesome . Load them up. There's a week of watching.
@@sshrul Thanks very much. Really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on collecting and watching. Like you, my collection is where I want it except for a few upgrades now and then as well as some occasional purchases from boutique labels like Criterion, Kino, and Warner Archive. I’m also favoring films and TV shows that are very rewatchable though I’m always open to watching a new film or show. Lots of watching to do.
The only confirmed title on my 2025 must-buy list is the 4K of Tommy: The Movie, which comes out March 18. My expectation is there will be a 50th anniversary 4K of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which will be a definite pick-up. I also have my fingers crossed that Criterion releases 4K upgrades of Eraserhead and Badlands.
@@robsavage3217 Great picks for 2025. I would love a 4K of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
My physical media focus the past year or two has been the Shaw Brothers (or Shawscope) sets and other releases from Arrow, Shout, and 88 Films. I am not sure why these kung fu/wuxia movies attract me. I was never a big kung fu person when I was younger, but I really enjoy them. I just picked up Shascope volume 3 and Shout has set 5 and 6 of their films Q1 2025. I’m also a Criterion fan, but I have not picked up many this past year. I received I Walked With A Zombie/The Seventh Victim for Christmas. I have a few more on my wish list and I hope they release more David Lynch, especially The Straight Story on blu-ray and more Kurosawa on blu-ray. I don’t have a digital collection to speak of. I think I bought one movie digitally and I never used any digital codes that came with physical media. I was slow on watching the Willow series on Disney Plus and no it is gone and who knows if it will ever be available again. I enjoy Kino Lorber too. I’d like to get their Fritz Lang silent film box to check those out. Happy collecting!
@@brianreynolds4931 Great picks and approach for 2025. I’m honestly just focused on filling in the gaps in my collection, upgrading a few titles and adding more films from boutique labels like Criterion, Kino, Warner Archive. Hope you have a great weekend.
Nice Star Trek movie and series' collection Boss. I only have about half that.
Thanks!
My goals are the same.. to fill in movies I’m missing in collections, add some more tv box sets - and cancel streams!! At this point I’m planning on keeping only prime and criterion channel
@@suemurray2109 Excellent plan! Hope you have a good weekend.
For Criterion, Im so excited for the upcoming 4k of Godzilla vs. Biollante. It's my favorite Godzilla film besides the original, and I can finally upgrade my childhood DVD copy. Unfortunately it seems I am all out of shelf space this year, but this Black Friday I order a bunch from Vinegar Syndrome and that's what tipped my shelf room off, but that order finally delivered last week after 2 months of waiting. So I'm gonna go through all my movies and see what I could remove for something better
Oh yes, that looks like a great release. I recently reconfigured my main movie shelves so have made a little space this year for more Kino Lorber, Warner Archive, and Criterion releases. Thanks for commenting and giving an update on your collection.
Great minds think alike.😆 i also want to get Winchester 73 and Night moves from Criterion. Ihad the Thin Man collection on dvd, but the first is the best imho. So i sold it.
@@maartenlemmens8628 Yes, I’m really looking forward to getting that Criterion release.
Yeah, I think of streaming as a way of trying new movies, but if I want to watch them over again, I buy a physical copy. I also do what you mentioned-have a service for a little bit and then switch for another.
Yes, streaming is so good for previewing films that I would like to have on physical media. At this stage in my collecting, I typically pickup films and TV shows that I know I will be watching over and over again.
That Thin Man set looks nice. I have the dvd box set of those movies. I don't think I've ever watched them all so i need to go through all of those. I love the first one. It's one of my favorite 1930s movies.
@@cwillism It’s a good set. I love the first film too and looking forward to watching all of the others.
Wow. You are a serious fan. 😊
@@leoniemillerl4487 Yes indeed!
This is such a great discussion topic and I really enjoyed hearing about your plans for 2025. Like you, I think I’ll spend this year watching instead of collecting. I have so many movies in both my digital and physical media libraries that I still haven’t gotten to yet, so I wanna show them some love. If I do buy anything this year it’ll probably be from Criterion. Nothing beats their releases and I’m hoping and praying that they one day release Withnail & I. As far as streaming goes, I’ll continue watching Criterion Channel and Britbox. Those are the only 2 streaming services I currently have and I’m happy with them both.
@@VanessaButtino I completely agree and Criterion titles are at the top of my list this year. Just feeling the need lately to hibernate and focus on watching or rewatching more of my collection including lots of older films, films from the 1970s, and other decades that bring some joy. I have a feeling that I will be sampling Britbox this year too especially if you recommend.
@ I’ve had Britbox for years now, mostly because I grew up watching classic British comedies. I’ve always loved British television (and film, come to think of it).
@@VanessaButtino I’ve always loved British TV and films too. I think Britbox is in my future. 😀

I haven’t experienced digital movies disappearing, but it’s being widely reported even with the video game community. I’ve wanted to add more Warner Archive this year too
@@80sMadeConsumer I was really surprised to see that the movie had disappeared so I’m hoping it doesn’t start happening more going forward. Thanks for sharing part of your plan for 2025, I love Warner Archive.
@ I’m not sure, but Sony was sued and had to admit you don’t own digital purchases.
@ Interesting. Did you read the news that Sony is stopping production on physical media? Not sure if it’s true but have seen a few articles about it this week.
@ it’s a misunderstanding they are stoping production of certain data discs. Mainly computer stuff. It has nothing to do with movies. They also signed that exclusive deal with Disney to distribute physical media. I believe that deal is in effect until 2026
@ Thanks for the clarification, most appreciated.
Well Dave, I've definitely cut back on streaming services! I only have Amazon Prime Video for streaming, although I do watch some free services such as Tubi & Fawesome for example! I'm like you & aren't buying as many movies this year! Of course I've been traveling a lot this last year as well!
Have a question? What has happened to the Warner Brothers Television science fiction movie DEEP FREEZE from 1955 or 1956? It starred Charles Bronson, Allison Hayes and Gerald Mohr. I saw this film once in my youth and now at 76 years old, have never seen it again. Has it been released or is there plans to release it. I've read articles on this film, but never came across a physical disc or tape that one can purchase. MUCH THANKS...
Thanks for your comment and question. I haven't heard of the show but did a quick search and cannot find any information on current or future releases of the show on physical media. I am often surprised when an older show gets found, remastered, and released on DVD or Blu-ray so I'm always hopeful.
@@CinemaDaveMedia I'm hopefull too !!! Like this movie a lot and would like to see it again before I kick the bucket,,, THANKS......
Hi both. We’ve had horrible weather too with a huge storm crossing over Wales today. We’re doing a similar thing this year. We’ll be sticking with Blu-Ray and only upgrading the films we love if they are in fact a significant upgrade. A lot of Blu-rays come from a decent source these days and boutique labels especially come in wonderful packaging and with a wealth of extras. A lot of people don’t mention just how robust the discs are, surely a great format to last. We recently picked up the Arrow 4K of The Great Escape in a lovely box which includes the follow up movie, and with my husband’s birthday fast approaching, I’ve pre-ordered the Criterion 4K of Winchester 73 for him. Best wishes to you both.
Hello. We are finally out of a few days of deep freeze here 🥶 Hope you stay safe with the bad weather there. Thanks for sharing your collecting approach for 2025. @@pamcormack5057 It’s one of my favorites. I miss Blockbuster too.
Thx, Dave. High winds up in Scotland, where I'm from, but not too bad doon here in England. Maybe I'm jinxing it by saying that, lol. Well, I have a large collection of DVDs, Blu rays and dvd-rs, but don't do 4k, think I've said that before, and, mostly, I've only upgraded from DVD to Blu Ray if the latter was really affordable and had extras on it, not on the DVD, or, if my dvd-r had been a recording off of the telly or when I copied some videos onto dvd-r years ago, lol. Or, if I didn't have the title already and the blu ray was affordable. Case in point, I rewatched my dvd-r of Peter's Friends the other night, and, fault in it, so, picked it up in a charity shop. I also have dvd-rs of movies from contacts that I can't get a hold of on physical media, or are too expensive, such as U.S. TV movies like: Fatal Vision, The Burning Bed and Small Sacrifices. I have a large collection so am going to concentrate on watching and only buying selectively this year. I'm watching Tokyo Godfathers right now, I know, it's a Xmas movie, but had no room for it then as too many Xmas films and shows, and, another Xmas movie I've rented (Cinema Paradiso are a physical media rental company in the UK...I have over 800 movies & shows on my watchlist with them!) called Lovely, Still (2008), another Xmas film. Tomorrow I'll check my dvd-r of Red Eye, with Rachel McAdams, and, any issues, I'll buy the blu ray. I think it's a Wes Craven movie. Love it. There aren't many Criterion sales in the UK and I'll only buy from boutique labels based on the same principles as aforementioned. TV show-wise, I'm going to go through Twin Peaks again. And, I received the complete Peaky Blinders series today, as have only seen bits of it. I haven't got many steaming options. But there are some, mostly horror movies on Amazon Prime that I'm going to watch. That's it. Toodles. Pam. 😊
Hello and hope you stay safe with the bad weather there. Thanks for sharing your physical media strategy for the year and giving more details on what you are watching and collecting. @CinemaDaveMedia Cheers, Dave and the same to you both.
@@CinemaDaveMediaby the way, I also like 70s movies and TV shows. In the last year, some of the shows I've bought have been Alas Smith & Jones, Columbo, The Golden Girls, Kojak, Kolchek (the TV series & two movies...I love those and see myself returning to them often), Kung Fu, The Man from Atlantis, The Closer, Medium, Starsky & Hutch, The Streets of San Francisco and, I've been rewatching Hill Street Blues online.
@ Wow, so many great shows. I need to add more to my list.
@@CinemaDaveMediaThx, Dave, and, I forgot to mention the Thin Man movies I have. I picked up a bundle of all six last year, but have only seen the first, original one so far. I was disappointed in #2 (which is probably why I haven’t picked it up yet). My favorite character is toddler Alia with her adult knowledge and a favorite aspect of the novel is how fiercely loyal Chani is to Paul. But I do have likes and dislikes to all 3 adaptions.

That's bananas.
@@Holland_Oates Yes indeed 🤣
Absolutely devastated by the passing of Lynch. Such a wonderful artist. I have never seen that first dvd you showed. Definitely gonna have to try to pick that one up. Great vlog, as always!
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words. I was also devastated by the passing of David Lynch, very upset, it really hit me hard. Rewatched The Art Life last night which I've seen many times. What an amazing filmmaker and artist.
I always feel like I don’t quite “get” Lynch (and have read/watched explanations to help), but I’ve always really liked his work anyway. That night, I watched the next episode of TP in my family’s sporadic re-watch and half of “Mulholland Drive” (had to finish it the next day due to time constraints).
Yes, some of his films are like puzzles that I can't quite figure out. I was just rewatching "David Lynch: The Art Life" last night which I've seen many times and it continues to help me better understand him as a person and a filmmaker.
Hey both. I’ve been a bit poorly recently, probably due to the up and down temperatures. The new shelves are looking great with that ‘just fit’ look that we managed to achieve too. Mixing Blu-Ray and DVDs would have driven me crazy. Yes, sad news about David Lynch. A great film director, just not my cup of tea. We’ve been sprinkling in some 60s and 70s recently after over dosing on Film Noir. A UK boutique store had a 40% off Kino 4Ks so I upgraded my Three Days of the Condor disc. Stunning! Best wishes to you both.
So sorry you haven't been feeling well. Temps here have been up and down too but now we are in a deep freeze 🥶for a few days. Luckily, we went the store yesterday to pickup supplies so we can hibernate. We love the reconfiguration of our new shelves, more room now for me to add to my collection. What other 60s or 70s films have you been watching? I love Three Days of the Condor. You reminded me also that I want to place a Kino Lorber order soon. All the best to you too. Hope you have a great week.
@ Chinatown, The Italian Job, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot are some that we rewatched but for the first time in 4K. After watching those we both felt the experience was more immersive in 4K, so with Three Days of the Condor being one of my favourite 70s films, I thought it it time to upgrade the Eureka Blu-Ray. My husband naturally thought Faye Dunaway was immersive in UHD! Yeah, I loved seeing her and Robert Redford on screen together.
@@MsModestyBlaise Wow, those are great films! When I think of the 1970s, I love revisiting Serpico (1973), Straight Time (1978), Night Moves (1975), Jaws (1975), Close Encounters (1977), Five Easy Pieces (1970), Klute (1971). There are so many amazing films. Three Days of the Condor is a classic! Need to upgrade many to 4K especially after you described your positive viewing experiences.
@@CinemaDaveMedia Wow! Now you’re naming some greats. We have Blu-rays of Serpico (Eureka), Straight Time, Night Moves (WAC), Five Easy Pieces, and the amazing Klute (Criterion) as well as Jaws in 4K. I heard Night Moves is getting a 4K on your side of the pond which I hope will come here. We only upgrade our favourites to 4K and only if the Blu-rays are a bit shoddy. For well put together boutique releases that have received a new 4K transfer we feel that they’re nice as they are.
@@MsModestyBlaise Yes, the Criterion 4K release of Night Moves is at the top of my list to pickup at the next sale. The deep freeze here has me wanting to watch more films these days.
Hello Dave and Jessi Me and the family are rewatching threes company and what’s happening. I recently purchased the complete Twins peaks series. I think it’s the perfect time to start watching it my favorite Lynch movie is the Elephant Man. Wonderful vlog as usual.
Thanks so much. Wow, great that you are watching some older sitcoms (love those shows). Twin Peaks is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. Season 3 is really good. Hope you have a great week.
