Charley Varrick is top notch. The Laughing Policeman is a good one too. Absolutely love 70s cinema, can’t beat the 70s blood. I went to buy Convoy from Imprint and ended up preordering I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched and few sale items. Guess I’ll get Convoy next month 😂 I couldn’t get into the fall guy. I grew up watching Columbo re runs. Not sure if I would pick up the series, but it brings me back. The Sorcerer was on my radar, I’ll add that very soon thanks for the recommendation. Tremors was always on TBS in the 90s that and killer klowns from outer space. Love both of them. White Christmas is a Staple for me, had boyhood crush on Verra Ellen. That 4k was amazing an absolute reference disc. Great video Dave
Thanks for watching and commenting. I am a big fan of 70s cinema, looking forward to the Criterion release of Night Moves which is one of my top favorites of that decade. In my humble opinion, Convoy is underrated and I really enjoyed watching it last year. Simple story but I love a good road movie and the music is good too. I started watching Columbo from the beginning already this year, he's my favorite TV detective and I am a big fan of Peter Falk. I am glad that I watched White Christmas all the way through over the holidays. I really liked it, the 4K looks great, and I will be watching every year from now on. Happy 2025!
Already commented early in video and just now see you saw Sorcerer.....I LOVE it and also have the blu-ray. Surely the film has the all time best "truck crossing a bridge" scene in movie history:) Friedkin said in interview (somewhere on youtube) that Sorcerer was his personal favorite film, most proud of, was the only film he made where he would not want to go back and change a thing. Agree quite rewatchable. A remake of the classic Wages of Fear, which I also enjoyed, but like Sorcerer a bit more.
@CinemaDaveMedia Glad to know I'm in great company Dave. I always love your channel. Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, good health and best wishes to you and your loved ones.
Favorite movie at the theater: Bad Boys: Ride or Die, great mix of humor and action Favorite movie on disc: Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens At the top of the watch pile waiting to be seen: Blake's 7 - Season 1 Blu-ray (seen it on TV many times over the decades)
Thumbs up on Aki Kaurismaki, new discovery for me in past couple years. Also much enjoyed Fallen Leaves, but love even more Drifting Clouds, saw streamed on Criterion Channel and I believe it's still there. Bummer that blu-ray not available in U.S. probably out of print, hard to find on Ebay, DVD yes but blu is rare. These titles scream for an updated Criterion release. Perfect Days a first watch for me, just superb, got the 4k during recent November sale, a rare blind buy for me but I knew Wenders would not let me down. Enjoyed your video....and topic of favorite first watches was a great idea.
@@pete49327 Thanks! Drifting Clouds is very good too. I’ve enjoyed every one of his films so far and hope to make more film study videos around his filmography this year.
Thelma sounds like one I will enjoy. I still haven't seen Point Blank after years of recommendations, too. I love Convoy. I have the blu and need to someday listen to the commentary on there because the production of it was quite the wild ride. Also been waiting to watch Joker: Folie a Deux and Yacht Rock, as I also think those be things I will like. Three older first time watches for me in 2024 were Roar, which is the film with Melanie Griffith and Tippi Hedren and lots of real wild animals from 1982 and a pair of very dark seventies films: Natural Enemies and Hollywood 90028.
Thanks for sharing your first time watches of 2024. Convoy is underrated in my humble opinion and I really enjoyed watching it in 2024. Thelma has a simple story but I really liked it especially June Squibb's performance. Point Blank is so well done, would love to know what you think after you watch it.
I always get Prime Cut and Point Blank mixed up. Same time period, kind of same style. But the movies I discovered last year via the criterion channel, and still there-two by director Lou Ye-Suzhou River and Saturday Fiction. Have you seen them?
KNIVES OUT was Rian Johnson ripping off SLEUTH (1972). KNIVES OUT 2 was him ripping off THE LAST OF SHIELA. He freely admits it. (And even has props from SLEUTH in the first K.O.)

@@pete49327 Agreed, Sorcerer is a brilliant film! A classic and very rewatchable.
Perfect Days, so good! I will be seeing Conclave soon, looking forward to it. Happy New Year!
@@Holland_Oates Happy New Year! Conclave is a fairly tame thriller but might pickup some awards.
My favorite first watch in 2024 was William Friedkin's Sorcerer. And it has become one of my favorite movies.
