    1. put your phone on a tripod; 2. use the wired headphones to take pictures every 2-3-5 sec (or however you need them to be taken). The volume up or down from the headphones will triger the shutter and it's recommended to use this method to not introduce movement when pressing to take the picture. 3. take how many pictures you need - more is better. Underexposed images are better because you'll recover details in editing easier. 4. fire up Adobe Photoshop or any other image editing software that has image aligment and most important, stacking options. 5. Done with no ND's or apps to buy! Oversimplified the Adobe Photoshop part, but you get the picture!

      They may not be for you, every photographer experiencing their craft differently etc. My clients often say they struggle with composition overwhelm with the sheer abundance of colour and the short window to capture them at their best can put the pressure on. Other than that most of what I talk about applies to most wild flowers, it’s just bluebell season, so that’s what I’m photographing 📷 👍

    Thanks for making me feel less cliche' about shooting flowers all the time. I never get tired of it, they're just so beautiful. Lensbaby optics are my absolute favorite tool for photographing flowers and greenery. Everything becomes so magical it looks like a fairy is going to land on the petals or a unicorn will walk into the scene any moment. Especially if you use the Soft Focus optic or the Velvet lens line.

    • @wildernessphotographic

      The word cliche gets knocked around in photography a lot doesn’t it but honestly if it’s not hurting anyone (or anything!) then no one should put a judgement on the images you make. If it fires your creativity and feeds the soul then it’s all good 👌

    A useful and timely video. Nice tip about the Helios. I’m going to get mine out! Being in Northern Scotland the bluebells are a bit later here, so there’s still a week or so before they’re at their best. Regarding processing, saturation, etc, I’ve found the best approach that works for me is to visualise the image in its final form, and that guides my processing. So, for example, I might visualise a bluebell shot cropped square, printed on a textured cotton rag and float-mounted in a white frame. That would naturally lead me to keeping the saturation lower and going for a dreamier, softer composition. Alternatively I might visualise a wide-angle shot, full of detail and contrast, presented on a large acrylic, in which case punch and saturation would be more appealing.

    • @wildernessphotographic
      @wildernessphotographic หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a really interesting insight Mark, thanks for sharing. It’s fantastic how many dimensions photography has and very cool to conceptualise the final print to inform your process. Love it 👌

    OMG I feel personally attacked LOL. I was obsessed with Sigma Art series lenses, wide apertures, and tack sharp glass for years and suddenly found myself ordering a couple of Vivitar Series 1 zooms in focal ranges I definitely did not need, for apertures narrower than I prefer, all for the look they give. So far I love them! But I've also watched hours of vintage lens videos and scrolled eBay endlessly... it's time to stop. I'm stopping now! 😅

    • @wildernessphotographic
      @wildernessphotographic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha definitely don’t feel attacked think of it more as being part of a support group 😂 Only the support you get is encouragement to buy more classic lenses! I also love Sigma Art though I use my 24-70 a lot for work 👌

    • @worldadventuretravel
      @worldadventuretravel หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wildernessphotographic The 24-70 has been out of my price range for a long time but on my list until I discovered the Art series also has a 50-100 *f/1.8* which is a better focal range for me and a whole stop brighter. I have the 30 and 50mm f/1.4 Art primes, and bought the Samyang MF 85mm f/1.4 which is absolutely gorgeous glass if you didn't know, for under $200 (Samyang does have an AF version for around $400). So just a recommendation for vintage lenses, the Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm AF f/2.8-4 is awesome. It's from the sixth release of that lens and the only one they put out with autofocus; originally made for Cosina. Warm colors, buttery smooth watercolor-ey backgrounds, and round translucent highlights when you find the right settings. Better yet, it's tack sharp especially in the center, but has a certain glowy softness throughout the frame while retaining tons of detail. The colors are saturated but dreamlike. I'd absolutely say you can use that for professional work. It's definitely going to be first in my bag for portraits, and I got some amazing woodland photography with it. I also grabbed the VS1 135mm f/2.8 (made for Komine) which turns EVERYTHING into soap bubbles if it comes anywhere near a light source. It's the Helios 44 but in 135mm and made for Vivitar. The VS! 28-105mm f/2.8-3.8 just arrived with a Minolta MD mount. I almost sent it back b/c a lot of people say there's no adapters for MD to Canon EF, but Fotasy makes one and I have now confirmed that the flange distance is not a problem and it works with the adapter just fine... besides having that whole fun twist-focus design. Will report findings when I get to take it out for a spin!

      Thanks so much eggers! The 70-200 f2.8 is such a good lens you’re going to have a lot of fun 🤩 As it has a minimum focus range of 1.4m you do need to pick subjects a little further back but that normally allows for a nice foreground anyway. Interesting cheers Duncan. Most of the time I'm in manual when I'm 'proper' filming so I don't miss that but the individual quirks of a vintage lens for sure make you work harder and I like that too. I'll have to check out Topcor, thanks 😀

    Manual mode, adjust, shoot, chimp on rear screen including the histogram &, for landscapes, shoot a plus or minus or two & use what works best. Spray & pray or insurance? Anyway seen a wildlife photo show on tv once it was suggested to over expose by 1 to 2-1/2 stops for the white birds. I use this often also for high key photos. Thanks for the vid & also bobbybob commenting. Sharing is how we, (or at least me) learns & grows the interest of photography.

    You can't 'play around with the exposure' if you're shooting raw. Your presentation is marred by confusing two things, 'exposure' and 'lightness'. 'Exposure' means the light energy density at the sensor, often expressed as 'intensity times time' (which you'll find in all decent elementary photographic textbooks). Obviously you can't change that after you've taken the shot. What you're calling 'exposure' is 'lightness', how light or dark the photo looks. The relationship between exposure and lightness for an in-camera processed image (JPEG) is determined by the ISO (by definition of ISO) - for a raw file you control the processing, so it isn't. The metering (at least simple, matrix and evaluative metering should be cleverer) works on the basis that the reflectivity of the scene is 18%. This works if you're metering off an 18% grey object that should be rendered as such in the final scene, but not if you're not. So one way to avoid meter error in snow is find an 18% object and meter off that (that's what spot metering's for), or use EC, as you suggest. That's just for JPEG where you're trying to match exposure to fixed processing, which overall is a bit of a mug's game. In raw, exposure for the highlights (especially in snow where they can get burned out). Use a histogram to set the highlights as far as you can to the right (why it's called 'expose to the right') then set the lightness as you want in processing.

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to make such a detailed comment Bobby. You are of course right that I can't change the actual image exposure in post i.e. change the shutter speed, aperture or iso there by altering the amount of light entering the camera over time. However this being a video about making adjustments in Lightroom I have gone with the Adobe term for brightness which is 'exposure'. I have gone into this in previous videos but I'm sure you can appreciate redefining the terms each time can also be confusing for viewers. I will endeavour to include a note for viewers in future videos that I'm actually adjusting brightness (not lightness, we can't adjust the amount of light in post either). Exposing to the right is absolutely sound traditional advice although interestingly most cameras produced in the last five years or so have such good noise tolerance and high dynamic range that it's rarely needed. I'm sure you are aware but for the benefit of others reading - the aim of exposing to the right is that lights are normally less noisy than darks and can therefore be recovered in post, but as I say newer cameras and advancements in post process noise reduction has significantly reduced the pressure on this. Still great practice for anything older though. One major exception can, funnily enough, be snow where it is incredibly easy to blow out the highlights in sunny conditions if going by the histogram. In these circumstance if the detail in the snow is to be retained exposing to the left can actually be more helpful. Thanks again for your thoughts. All the best, Christopher

      @@wildernessphotographic I think when you're explaining things it's important to be clear in your terminology, especially when talking about something as fundamental as exposure. Once you start presenting as a teacher you need to be more careful than would the everyday photographer. As for your comment about 'lightness', sorry, you got that exactly the wrong way round. 'Lightness' is the technical word for how light or dark something looks, and I used it correctly. 'Brightness' is a colloquial word for how much light comes from something. Again, many photographers get these wrong, but if you're teaching you need to get it right. I'd suggest a quick brush-up to familiarise yourself with basic photographic theory - not so that you can fill your videos with it, but just to avoid making mistakes which lead to others mislearning.

      Yes although amazing anything came back considering what the film canisters must have been through! I’d be interested to work with the original original. I’d imagine one could get a lot more out of it and potentially digitally upscale the resolution. I wonder if it might lose some of its charm then though 🤔
