Magic Mushrooms! Top techniques for photographing mushrooms | Part 1 | Focus Stacking w Photoshop

In the first installment of our magic mushroom series we have an opportune find of a lovely clump of mushrooms in the local park. We kick things off by going through a technique called 'focus stacking'. Once a great composition is found we can take a series of frames with the aperture wide open picking different parts of the image to be in focus. This allows us back in the studio to combine these in Adobe Photoshop to make an image where the mushrooms are resplendently in focus whilst the background can be left with a pleasant bokeh shallow depth of field.
This technique can be used for all sorts of projects from natural history macro shots to detailed product photography.
In part 2 next week we will take this further by introducing light painting to our mushrooms to create whimsical images of dramatic, etheral and glowing fungi!
