- Summer Cruise 1964
A voyage into Northern Seas in a 15'10" Wayfarer sailing dinghy with Frank Dye and Bill Brockbank
This awe-inspiring and frankly terrifying tale is told with quiet humility. In the summer of 1964 Frank Dye and Bill Brockbank drove from Norfolk to the North-West of Scotland and then sailed their Wayfarer dinghy "Wanderer" via the Isle of Rona and the Faroes to Norway. Battling seasickness and strong gale force (47-54mph) winds, they successfully completed their expedition (or as Frank calls it, their 'summer cruise'!) and documented the journey with a cine camera.
I've cleaned the audio a bit and added subtitles in this version. Remains the property of Frank Dye's estate.
Its such a pity that the quality is so bad considering the trouble Frank went to in order to film his passage .
Yes although amazing anything came back considering what the film canisters must have been through! I’d be interested to work with the original original. I’d imagine one could get a lot more out of it and potentially digitally upscale the resolution. I wonder if it might lose some of its charm then though 🤔
Absolutely amazing! What incredible courage!
I can’t begin to imagine how vulnerable it would feel to be trying to recover a capsized dinghy in the middle of the North Sea in a Force 8 😱
Nice
