I never heard about this in school, thank you! I got to say, Dacia had it coming and deserved it. I get that Iulius Caesar wanted to conquer Dacia but man they just couldn't leave a grudge. Are we talking about Dacians or Dwarves from Lord of the Rings?

Just know more than 90% of our lexic does not come from the romanisation ( romanizarea ) of Dacia or the nowadays Romania. Story goes like this the wolf ( all the tracian tribes ) lost to the roman empire who got fed by the wolf ( romulus și remus ) you get it? the last standing people of all the tribes that shared similar names for the regions/tribes gathered in Dacia the capital where they made their last stand. SO do a video on that if you really have so much to say about my country s origins. Kissya.

so to complete the metaphor, romulus și remus the babies, captured the tracian tribes land which later on became the roman empire.............so the statue of the wolf feeding the babies its real substance is that which ive already explained. Just try to be me, its disgusting when some stranger tries to say false or intrepret my history when we who lived here know the truth and the truth is provable and still embedded and carried on thru our language and traditions. So please, make videos about something else that doesn t involve spreading lies

I'm from Turkey. Fatih Sultan Mehmet, also known as Mehmed II or Mehmed the Conqueror would certainly make into this list as he spoke 7 languages. Turkish: As the ruler of the Ottoman Empire, he naturally spoke Ottoman Turkish, the administrative and literary language of the time. Ottoman Turkish was influenced by Persian and Arabic, with a significant vocabulary derived from both languages. Arabic: Arabic was the language of Islam, the religion of the Ottoman Empire. As a devout Muslim and ruler of a large Muslim empire, Sultan Mehmed II was proficient in Arabic, especially in its religious and scholarly contexts. His knowledge of Arabic was essential for reading Islamic texts, including the Quran and other religious works. Persian: Persian was an important cultural and literary language in the Ottoman Empire, especially for the elite and intellectual classes. Sultan Mehmed was well-versed in Persian, which was often used for poetry, literature, and diplomacy. Persian influence was particularly strong in the courts of the Ottoman Empire during his reign. Greek: Given his conquest of Constantinople and his deep connection with the former Byzantine Empire, Mehmed II was also proficient in Greek. This was crucial for his diplomatic efforts and for interacting with the Greek-speaking population of the Byzantine territories, as well as understanding the rich Byzantine heritage he inherited. Latin: Mehmed II's education also included Latin, which was the language of scholarship, law, and diplomacy in medieval Europe. Latin was used in the formal correspondence with European powers and in understanding classical texts, which were important for his intellectual pursuits. Italian: As part of his extensive diplomatic efforts, especially with the city-states of Italy like Venice and Genoa, Sultan Mehmed II learned Italian. This was particularly useful for diplomatic negotiations and trade relations, as Italian was a common language for commerce and diplomacy in Renaissance Europe. Other Languages: Some historical sources suggest that Mehmed II may have had a working knowledge of other languages such as Serbian and Slavonic, as he interacted with various Slavic-speaking peoples in the Balkans, which were part of the Ottoman Empire.

To me, learning hungarian wasn't even a challenge, I grew up with hungarian-speaking kids, now it's like a second language. French, as it was mandatory since second grade, and being close to romanian, turned up to be an easy pick, as well. German, well... hard to crack but I still can handle myself. Some russian, I can read, write but my vocabulary is lacking, and I'm not planning on improving that. Turkish... that could be an easy achievement, considering the strong hungarian base already available. Once you have the roots of a language, you can master it. My worst challenges were danish and arabic. We all have a limit, eh? Thank you for your videos, if you could do a series on aramaic/hebrew I would be most grateful.

Can you guess my view of the world and political alliances? 😄 My foreign languages: English, German (C1), Russian, Spanish (B2), Mandarin (A2/B1), Persian (A2). My mother tongue: Slovak. I also understand Polish and Serbo-Croatian much better than my compatriots (I´ve been exposed to them and, to a lesser extent, I have also actively studied them - can follow political discussions in Polish, for example). I would also like to learn some other languages like Quechua or Georgian. Seriously, the fact that Engels spoke Irish really caught my attention. I did a quick search on Wikipedia and apparently he was involved with the Burns sisters, both of whom were active in the Irish nationalist movement. Although they were born in Manchester, they likely spoke Irish. I thought Engels might have learned Irish from them, but then I found this article by Kaan Kangal: "Marx and Engels as Polyglots". It says: "...Engels was also studying Dutch, Frisian, Celtic, and Irish by the end of the 1860s, the last one of which was particularly important to understanding older kinship relations, customs, and legal structures in northern Europe." This guy was remarkable in his efforts. On the other hand, multilingualism is not that rare. Let's take the Roma in the south of my country, Slovakia. Some of them speak Romani (mother tongue), Hungarian (widely spoken along the southern border where ethnic Hungarians live), Slovak (official language, school) and English (if they lived or possibly still live in the UK). So some of them speak 4 quite different (!) languages even though they may have only finished primary school.

Recently I’ve started to learn Latin. I think that’s due to your influence. Maybe one could argue that the variety of German spoken in Switzerland is a separate language . I think could pick it up if I lived there and also Dutch if I lived in the Netherlands. Languages are fascinating. One problem with an Iranian homeland is about agriculture, if it was before agriculture, it would contradict the few agricultural terms in PIE but if it was after agriculture PIE would have to have more agricultural terms, which is not the case; instead a better area that fits with the weak agricultural terms in PIE would be the Pontic-Caspian steppe in the Chalcolithic. Another thing is that the Caucasus hunter-gatherers were only deeply related to Iranian hunter-gatherers 2. There are wolves in the Pontic-Caspian steppe, and according to Wiktionary the Hindi and Welsh words shown are from substrates 3. You're probably the first person I hear saying Kelteminar was IE, I find no reason for that at all and I've seen Kelteminar more often linked with Uralic, though I also doubt this link 4. There's no reason for Tocharian to be derived from Botai, instead Tocharian can be traced to the Afanasievo culture which descended from Repin, was genetically identical to Yamnaya, checks out for contacts between Tocharian and Siberian languages and we know that the cultures succeeding Afanasievo migrated southwards, eventually reaching the Tarim Basin 5. Armenian is not Anatolian, it is clearly part of the core group 6. Poltavka descended from Yamnaya, and Arkaim belonged to Sintashta 7. Yamnaya didn't derive from outside the Pontic-Caspian steppe, it was a descendant of the Repin culture (which was basically just an early stage of Yamnaya) and before that the Sredny Stog culture in Ukraine which started in around 4500 BC 8. Sintashta appeared a millennium after Yamnaya and it derived from Corded Ware 9. Proto-Indo-Iranian wasn't spoken that far south as it had contacts with Balto-Slavic and Uralic, which clearly push Proto-Indo-Iranian further north 10. Italo-Celtic didn't derive from the Yamnaya migration to the Danube, but from Corded Ware as the Bell Beaker culture's main Y-DNA has been found in Corded Ware and for a while Italo-Celtic was part of a Northwest Indo-European continuum alongside Germanic and Balto-Slavic, which you admitted to being Corded Ware-derived 11. The Paleo-European substrate in Germanic is overestimated, and Germanic was actually a quite conservative dialect up until 500 BC Additional note: I know that you're skeptical in relating language and Ancient DNA evidence at all, but while language cannot be directly seen from the DNA, a certain genetic phenomena can be tied to the spread of a language family if a spread attested in Ancient DNA fits the linguistic evidence, and it does for Indo-European and supports the Steppe hypothesis which also has linguistic and archaeological evidence

@@BenLlywelyn I guess the Yamnaya --> Corded Ware expansion (though some have claimed that Proto-Corded Ware was actually a sibling of Yamnaya) and I'm fine with Anatolian influence in the Balkans, I even prefer the view that Anatolian came through the Balkans which can be traced with (Suvorovo --> Cernavodă --> Ezero --> Anatolians) in archaeology

As a Buddhist it’s actually quite saddening how you portray Islam as this evil force that relies on subjugation when Christianity and other religions in this video have done such things at points of their history as well. It’s ahistorical and blatantly just shows you have this bias towards other religions compared to Islam, I’ve grown up with Muslims and they are some of the most amazing people you will ever meet, I pray that your mindset on the religion changes overtime

Enoch Powell is a poor example. He was a hypocrite and pseudo intellectual . He understood little or nothing ,as he invited mass migration from the Carribbean as a minister. I'm proud to have gone on my first demonstration against Powell as he appeared at a Tory meeting in Wembley. As an American you have no ability to judge a humourless fraud like Powell. A good example of a polyglot that made little sense in any of them. Disappointing that your research has failed you in this instance. You may have spoken to too many Smithfield porters and the Tory subservient press that constantly rewrites facts and history. Did you know for instance that the only UK power cuts of the 1970s , were under the conservatives? I lived through it in London and Manchester. Your championing of Powell does you and your excellent channel a disservice Powell never experienced combat and felt guilty for having survived, writing that soldiers who did so carried "a sort of shame with them to the grave" and referring to the Second Battle of El Alamein as a "separating flame" between the living and the dead. When once asked how he would like to be remembered, he at first answered, "Others will remember me as they will remember me", but when pressed he replied, "I should like to have been killed in the war".
