Incredible collection of vintage engines at the Streaky Bay ( South Australia) Powerhouse museum. It includes a Blackstone well borer which was recovered from the SA outback. The collection was put together by a bloke named Norm Jenkinson.

Me and my mate Rob ( RIP) travel to Warkworth, NSW to pick up the big Austral from Ray Keys and family. Was one of our most memorable engine trips. A few spare parts thrown in , taken from Ray's chook house.

retrieval of a long sort after ,Australian made Robison pump. They made bigger but I've only ever seen a 24". eventually I will hook it to one of my big engines.

Haven't had the big Ronny going for six months and I just don't get sick of running it. 1932 ish , 20hp , Ronaldson Brothers and Tippett. Originally saved from scrap by Ray Keys many decades ago and I got it from him.

just picked up today this 1949 vaporising cup engine. had a few issues but I roughly fixed it up enough to run without actually measuring any adjustments. I think they are 2 1/2 hp.

after tightening the governor springs and making a gravity pressure fed fuel system, it's running alot better. Just need to turn down the automatic oiler !

finally got this "little " hot bowl engine home after many years of negotiations. The rusty photos are the rust in the bore. I will upload more as i get a bit of progress . 8 1/4 " bore.

That is SO cool! As someone that went to school 40 years ago on compression/ignition engines, it still fascinates me to watch the start-up and run process of these venerable motors. This one kind'a reminds me of the classic war movie 'Guns Of Navarone' when 'Butcher Brown' was trying to start the old boat CI engine and had that old torch on the cylinder head trying to get that combustion chamber hot enough to fire off. Back in the day, sometimes you had to be creative to get some of the older diesels to light off! Nice video!
Hi mate, thank you for the comments. I’ll look that movie up,I have seen it but dont remember the engine you mentioned. This engine is a hot bowl or surface ignition engine . That means you have to pre heat the “ surface “ to start it and then the explosions keep it hot once running.

@@jenkodiesel5768 The only thing that really can stop it is mechanical neglect and rust. Set off a EMP, that engine will tug along just fine.
Amazing piece of history ! When you see this heavy machine pumpin so much brute force you appreciate the skills and craftmanship of our grand grand fathers.
They did the working out, we just complicate it.

@@jenkodiesel5768Во временя СССР подобные дизеля были и у нас, только немного другие, в том числе и вертикальные, как потом выяснилось сделаны они были по немецкому образцу 20х или 30х годов, воду качали и тому подобное.

Is there any cooling system for this engine?
Not in this video but the cylinder is full of water. It still takes an hour to get hot without any load.

I work in a scrap metal yard one of these came in I am surprised by what people throw away
An old bloke I once talked to told me he was working in a scrap yard in the 1950's and a few times farmers actually drove steam traction engines to the yard for scrap and he busted them up while still hot. He said he knew it wasn't right but was just a kid and couldn't buy any of them.

That burner is the biggest I´ve ever seen. Most only have one (big) burner but not four! What a thing.
Yes, the four burner lamp is extremely rare and only came with the 20 hp and up engines. I’ve only seen about four or five of them and I’ve got three of those.
