The Pale Blue Dot
United Kingdom

The Pale Blue Dot is the famous photograph taken of planet Earth on February 14, 1990, by the space probe Voyager 1. My vlog is a travel channel that aims to give you more.
Ancient Fijian Petroglyphs or Rock Carvings
Along the Kings Road travelling from Ba to Tavua in Western Fiji, on top of a large hill on the north side of the road, there are petroglyphs or rock carvings on a large boulder on a significant mound or tumulus. Some of these petroglyphs are vaguely anthropomorphic, while two others are more peculiar in shape. Moreover, a little further on, on the summit of Magere, there is a boulder carrying signs of having been used for grinding and sharpening axes or weapons. These are a few examples of the ancient way of life going back to the dawn of Fijian civilization. Having done the "sevusevu", the traditional protocol as the form of welcome with the turaga-ni-koro (headman) of Vatutavui village - the owners of the hill and petroglyphs - we went to explore with their encouragement and blessings.

Togoru, a climate change warning.
มุมมอง 2.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Togoru is a settlement in Navua, the province of Namosi, Fiji, It is a short drive from the nation's capital, Suva, which is visible in the distance from what is left of Togaru's beach. The impact of climate change has produced a stark and surreal seascape: the images of graves, once on land, but now under waist-deep water. These graves are the Dunn family burial grounds. The Dunns buried there...
Nausori Town, Fiji
มุมมอง 27Kปีที่แล้ว
With my intention to visit and explore every major town in Fiji, I found myself in Nausori, regarded as the gateway to the capital, Suva. I had wanted to visit the market but the heat and humidity and the strong likelihood of rain meant I would have to leave that for another day. There are many sides to Nausori not least of which is the old town situated, so I've been led to believe, around 5 k...
Ring-ditch fortifications of Suva
มุมมอง 2.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi friends! I'm back! Apologies for the absence. In this vlog: A glimpse into a forgotten way of life of ancient Fiji. The windward side of Viti Levu has a large number of the remains of fortified sites known as ring-ditch which, as the name implies is a circular ditch and bank line of defence enclosing a settlement. These ring-ditch fortifications were located in areas noted for their crop cul...

Looking for Some of the Myths and Legends of Ancient Fiji
มุมมอง 18K2 ปีที่แล้ว
It's been a few weeks since my last vlog. I was nursing an inflamed Achilles tendon brought about by overexertion in the gym. I was advised to have my tendon rested (done thoroughly), use ice (done occasionally), and have the rest of my leg massaged around the tendon (done frequently). On Wednesday last, my team and I hiked up into the foothills of Nakauvadra, the beating heart of ancient Fiji,...
Udre Udre, the cannibal who reportedly ate between 872 and 999 people.
มุมมอง 34K2 ปีที่แล้ว
"During the 19th century the hungriest cannibal, Udre Udre reportedly ate between 872 and 999 people. The Fijian chief had kept a stone to record each body eaten and, these were placed along his tomb in Rakiraki, northern Viti Levu." That is the entry for the Guinness World Records. Udre Udre was a tribal chief in Ra, a province of the main island of Fiji called Viti Levu. In some quarters, Fij...
Firewalking at Maha Mariam Temple in Navatu, Ba, Fiji Islands.
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
According to Encyclopedia Britannica Online, fire walking is "...a religious ceremony practiced in many parts of the world, including the Indian subcontinent, Malaya, Japan, China, Fiji Islands, Tahiti, Society Islands, New Zealand, Mauritius, Bulgaria, and Spain." Fiji is specifically mentioned as one of the centres of its practice around the world. Indeed, that would appear to be the case as ...

Two big BL 6-inch Mark VII Naval guns overlook Momi Bay in Fiji and date back to World War Two. They were heavy field guns of the First World War which became one of the main coastal defense guns throughout the British Empire up until the 1950s. When it became apparent that the Japanese Imperial Army had designs on Fiji as part of their Pacific expansion, these Breech Loader (loaded from the ba...
Ancient mythological stones said to represent Cirinakaumoli and Nakausabaria of pre-Christian Fiji
มุมมอง 5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Cirinakaumoli and Nakausabaria were twin gods and grandsons of Degei, the supreme god of the Nakauvadra mountain range. They were worshipped by pre-Christian Fijians. We go to land owned by the Yaqara Pastoral Company Limited but historically belonging to the Vatukoloko people to see the physical representation of these gods in two stones that the ancient Fijians living around Nakauvadra worshi...
A road trip to the Nadarivatu Highlands and Monasavu Dam; some of the highest parts of Fiji.
มุมมอง 95K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote “Its the not the Destination, It's the journey.” I know the phrase has become a bit of a cliche nowadays but it does repeating especially when you're in Fiji and obstacle after obstacle is invariably thrown in your way. Let me explain. Accompanied by friends, I was supposed to be visiting Monasavu Dam in the valley of the Central Highlands of Fiji. Years ago you c...

Theemithi (Thimithi), or "firewalking", is a South Indian practice whereby devotees walk across a fire pit in exchange for a wish or blessing granted by the goddess Draupadi. It is a part of a wider re-enactment of the Hindu story of the Mahabharata. Firewalking dates over 2000 years in South India. Picture yourself in the early hours of the morning before sunrise. A whiff of smoke envelops the...

For those wondering, the first location is in Laucala Beach, behind the houses on Sekoula Rd and Tagimoucia Pl. The street you see in the beginning where they’re entering from is Tagimoucia Pl.
It’s an amazing place. It’s such a shame that the many that existed along the Suva-Nausori corridor have been built over by urban development and lost to history.
Normal voices, beautiful sound 👍❤️😃
Totally agree. 😃

Circumcision custom culture Sign Where grandfather came from
Originally circumcision custom ancient times Brought with them Remote times
Why do Fijian circumcision No doubt the fijian brought the custom with them in remote times, and it's origin is probably the same in their case as in that of the Nacua of Central America and Bantu race
Come on. Te anaa (singers) are not performing as expected to 'move' the audience, not to mention the Banabans spectators themselves. I suspect that this generation has not gained experience from the 'real dancers'. But I commend their effort in trying to keep up with our traditional dances Please rehearse well so that we Banabasn will not be disappointed. I know that you guys are at USP and you are credited for being intellectuals -but that is only on your field of study. Dancing is a totally different form of study. Please, in the future, make us proud to be Banabans - I wanna boast to my Kiribati friends how good you are but they criticized te anaa because it was kinda flat. I don't want to be ridiculed for your actions. I now work and reside on Kiribati and because of our history I do not want to be reminded of our inability to be like our brothers and sisters from Kiribati., who have upheld their culture and traditions. I'm a big fan of you guys, and I'm hoping to see more well rehearsed items in the future. Thank you all for your 2022 participation.
Thanks for your input. I’ve been to the USP Open Days in 2023 and 2024 and the Banabans performed well. Always so happy and beautiful dressed.

We had a smaller one in Rakiraki. Had 4 entrances and only about 200 mtrs diameter, near the old village of Navuavua. From Aus,Good on you Azeem old mate 👌
Thanks, Seta. There are so many dotted around the country. The Suva - Nausori corridor was once littered with them. Now sadly lost under the urban sprawl.
What is the second song title??
Sadly, I don’t know. Perhaps there might be something in the comments section that might help. 👍🏽

They should try singing in a room with good acoustics- the room they’re in is a hinderance to unamplified singing.
I would love to get them in a recording studio or at least somewhere more conducive to the sound of their extraordinary voices.
I think they are singing in their usual place, a church.
@@sharonbapp9613 it was a church but not their usual one.
