    What a fun idea for a video, absolutely delightful! I really enjoy the moments where you weave your own personal narrative into the vlogs and share your history and connections to this remarkable place. Your efforts are very much enjoyed and appreciated!

      Glad you enjoyed it, Matt! I think including more of my life stories is the way to go. It adds an interesting element.

    Thank you again Azeem for another great TH-cam, always pleasure watching. It is so real, so pure and give so much happiness. I had very little exposure to western Fiji as I grew up in Nausori. Still love watching anything about Fiji. Hope you will be doing a vlog on Nausori sometime in nearby future. We are planning our trip in December/January.

      Hi Babita. Thank you! So kind! And such beautiful observations! Yes, Nausori is definitely on the cards. Eventually, I want to cover all the towns of Fiji, small or large.

      Glad you enjoyed it! Sadly that whole area has gone into decline. I think it's because the Anupam cinema died. I remember that stretch when I took part in the oratory contest in 1980 in the cinema. There was a really pleasant English lady judge who had a huge mop of black hair (I think she was the wife of Justice Scott of the Lautoka High Court) whom I saw popping into one of the shops for some late-night groceries after the contest.

      @@ThePaleBlueDot Yes it seems so,we used to live by the Anupam theatre when it was active and after it closed.The state of Lautoka surely has declined,the roads look bad.But I was very surprised to see the old steam engine still there,outside the library.I used to play on it a lot when we visited the library!So much memories come to mind from your vlog,I never thought I'd ever entertain them again unless I visited Fiji.Your vlogs are very much appreciated and I love learning more about Fiji:)

      @@rorynesta7766 The roads are in an appalling state at the moment. I was a little embarrassed about doing a vlog in which the condition of the roads would be clearly visible. It was never this bad in the 70s and 80s. Yes, that old steam train is still there at the library!

    Thanks man for posting the Vatukoula gold mine, what an interesting vid. Anyway can you take a visit to the bowling club in Suva, I heard that theres a bowling club where only adults above the age of 18 can attend.

      The bowls club used to be the place to hang out in the past. Sadly, it's a bit neglected these days.

    Tui, thank you. Please do vlog on Lautoka's first police station the former Fiji Guest House managed by Mr Zain Dean. I presume the former Guest house is own by late Tamiq Khan family of Picadilly in London.

    • @ThePaleBlueDot
      @ThePaleBlueDot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! I've never heard of it. There is a new one in the final stages of being built in Natabua.

      @@ThePaleBlueDot Sadly the one being demolished at Drasa Avenue was the second Police Station in the district built by the British colonial administration. The" Fiji Guest House " property was leased by my great great grand father Mohammed Rahmantuallah Tawhir Khan to the British colonials as the district's first Police Station in 1920s to 1947 with a holding cell for people awaiting bail applications. It was managed by later Peter and Anna Khan of Canada in 1970s to mid 1980s as a Guest House for locals and foreign tourists.Then later managed by late Mohammed Kharullah Khan in 1990s. Zain Dean from infamous Shabudean Transport family was the last known trustee of this historic property. No sure if ownership has changed hands over the years. Back in the day it was painted sky blue and the gutters were red, and there was a tourist information office and reception in the front. It looks badly neglected like so many historic buildings in Lautoka city.

      @@tukimanda8872 Wow! That's an extraordinarily detailed account, especially going from police station to guest house. It reminds me a lot of the old magistrate's court in Lautoka which had a similar history.

      I need to do more cultural items. Hopefully, with COVID behind us they’ll be more opportunities for that sort of thing.
