Hey mate, does your DCDC stay charging even after your car is off? Also, my battery is full but the harger still kicks in and charges. I thought they only kick in when the battery is around 85%
Asparagus in peppercorn sauce mate get on it
I camp the same way, swag and stretcher in -2c......darche... so its foam matress. Could be the air mattress isnt insulating you as well, my sleeping bag is -10c..... I have a blanket over the top as well. Use hot water bottle mate, they work well, one that has a cover, it raises the temp really well. best $12 you'll spend 4 winter camping hahah. it saved my arse last time out
Those inflatable swags are no good for the cold. Air mattresses just suck. Conventional swag with 70mm foam mattress, decent bag and toasty all night.
Unfortunately you are always going to freeze in cold weather on top of the air mattress. I learnt the hard way. Normal swag with 70mm foam, decent bag and toasty all night in zero temps.
Great video mate. I really enjoyed this. It made me want to go camping. -4 here last night and ahain tonight. I think i will wait a few weeks. Haha 😂😂 The chips looked perfect. 👍👍
Thanks Robbie, appreciate that mate! The chips went down well that’s for sure! If you find yourself up this way I’ll have to get some Cod & Yella tips off you, my season was horrible this year 😂😂
I did try and use a flexi panel straight on top of a steel canopy with no air gap... Dont do that 26 deg and fried the panel.. Fiberglass isnt as hot as steel BUT you need a an air gap. Learning is apart of life :)
Yup been there done that,,,,combination of your air matress hurl that get at least a 10cm self inflating mattress and a better sleeping bag .
I reckon so mate. I’ve been checking a few out!
Get a couple wool blankets and the Burke and wills sleeping bag from anaconda, I've used that just on a stretcher no swag down in about -2 was the last I seen the temp before sleeping. Was a bit cold but made it through the night alright.
Sounds the goods. Cheers mate! I’ll look into them 👍🏽
@@OutNAboutAustralia I think the sleeping bags might be on special at the moment.
What a beautiful spot, I agree with the better sleeping bag and high R value mattress we also use wool blankets for under and over us, all of them came from OP shops.
Definitely looking to get a high R value mattress. Didn’t think of the wool blankets though. Cheers mate! 👍🏽
ive come full circle - started out with full six person tent camping gear...worked out i was taking 99% of stuff i never used on trips. cut down to a single man tent which was pretty good, then a swag, but you do a night in outback Australia, the ground pulls all the heat out of a swag or small tent and you cant keep warm...so now I'm at sleeping in the car...which isn't really camping. i cant find a decent small one man option - the 4wd seat reclined with pillows wins...
Same here, now the kids are old enough for tents or swags, their choice and they set up, I'm in my old 4WD. I made side window covers out of windscreen sunshades and attach with painters tape.
@@jae4807 you do know kmart has window covers pairs for like $8. double sided thick nylon like stockings, you slide them over the door, and shut it, velcro tabs with double sided tape to put them in place. eight bucks !!! total insect proof gives you airflow. their memory foam car seat inserts are amazing also, waterproof, can double as pillows. the memory foam car seat insert, inside your sheepskin covers, turns a crappy 4wd seat into a lumbar seat. I've got two in my drivers side, one to sit on one for lower back, and its like a proper support seat...whip them out when i sleep and use them as pillows..then slide them back in for the long drive. mem foam so don't absorb water. really comfy.
How goods that! Kmart coming though with the goods once again!
Guess who's shoppin for a new sleeping bag, you and I both bro. First time viewer and I enjoyed ya content, camping by a river in frosty conditions is right up my ally so I'll give ya a sub. Let us know how ya get on with ya sleeping arrangements and that inflatable sounds like a cool idea but I'd want some sort of motor. Paddling against a current or even a head wind would be a pain in the arse.
Thanks mate, I bloody appreciate it! Yeah hadn’t thought of a motor definitely wouldn’t be too fun paddling upriver with a headwind. When I get it all sorted I’ll be sharing for sure!
I like the idea of having a wood splitter on hand, something I will take on my trip next year.
Only thing I’d recommend is get a full size one. Mines a bit small for the bigger timber.
The elements will always wear you down eventually, it is just a matter of time, even folks in campervans will tell you this. This is why full time traverlers have live in accommodation, being a van, caravan, truck camper or whatever. Cheers
Believe me mate a caravan sounded pretty bloody good this night 😂 That being said I’ve had similar nights in my Darche swag where I don’t feel the cold at all.
Not true, the right gear is what it takes.
Ditch the sleeping bag Luke, I would let my mother-in-law use that in summer. Nothing wrong with a stretcher and a swag in the cold, using mine all the time. Just need a decent bag and even a quilt and you’ll be set. I’m sold on the cold oil chips !! 👌💯
100% Gav, mate the stretchers staying for sure 😂 too easy to get out of bed in the mornings! I think I got a new bag online as soon as I woke up 😂 I’ve chucked some foam in under the air mattress as well so hopefully that helps a bit…we’ll see how she goes 🤷♂️
@@OutNAboutAustralia I also have a quilt my mum made for me which is always in the troopy during winter, works a treat, just slightly larger then the footprint of the swag. 👍🏼
Thank you for sharing - enjoyed it 🌸
No worries. Thanks you for watching! 🤙🏽
also get yourself the kings good sleeping bag , it's actualy 2 bags in one , but the bag it comes in is a joke , for being too small ,🙂 so get a biger bag for it
I’m definitely looking at those bags as an option. They sound pretty good. From what I hear they’re as warm as some of the big brands 👍🏽
looks like your using an air mattress ? , they are to cold for winter camping , get a self inflating foam one ,as they will stop the cold from underneath
100% mate. The warmth just gets sucked straight out of it. I’ve lined the underside with HD foam so hopefully that’ll hold a little more in. If that doesn’t work I’ll be going the high R value self inflating setup 🤙🏽
the reason your cold is your on a stretcher in a inflatable swag so the cold air gets under your swag and using a air mattress and inflatable pillow that's asking to get cold as the air inside them gets cold , anything that inflates with air are the worst things to camp in colder weather with.
Thanks Jason, definitely learnt this one the hard way 😂 Lots of mods to come to warm it up a bit! 🤙🏽
The sleeping bag looks like one I'd give my kids to take to summer camp with, maybe 5C rating at very best, more likely 10C. The air mattress has no insulation. Given it can get down to -5C you must have froze. Spare a thought for the aborigines who had roo skins at best. They must have been tough as old boots. I'm camping in the snow next weekend and I will have an R4 self inflating mat on top of an R2 foam closed cell mat under me and a -10C top quilt on top... while hanging in my Helsdon hammock.Should be warm as toast. BTW, never seen an inflatable swag before.
Sounds like a toasty setup mate! Definitely felt every bit of cold in this setup 😂 I’ll be doing a lot of mods to warm it right up!
New to your channel.. I’m a TH-cam myself
Thanks for watching mate. All the best for your channel! 🤙🏽
These chairs are rubbish in the wind. Stand up and your chair blows away. Good for hiking but unnecessary if you don’t have a weight issue
Couldn’t agree more mate, I either flip mine over when I get up or weight it down. I just find it a bit more comfy than the standard chairs and a bit easier to pack away.
That sleeping bag u had was absolute trash. Have a look at the crashpad sleep system, great option for all year round camping
Thanks mate, I’ll be sure to check it out. 👍🏽 Appreciate the suggestion!
From someone who grew up near the Lachlan yes it gets cold. I use swag on stretcher with self inflating mattress and darche cold mountain bag. If used it in apline country in winter -10 still warm. Great to see the river again 👍.
Beautiful river system mate! Darche is definitely looking the goods in terms of the sleeping bags to go with. I haven’t found a single negative review yet.
Put your swag on a ground sheet under your awning ditch the stretcher you will be much warmer with no bed sag....
Thanks for the tip mate, I appreciate it! I’ll be sure to give it a go 🤙🏽
You could always throw some hot coals under the stretcher to help stay warm.
Knowing my luck I’ll load it up and blow an air pole 😂
@@OutNAboutAustralia bahahaha
Yes the cold oil chips are amazing, who would of thought (Harry did lol).
He was spot on! @firetofork always coming through with the goods!
I just spent a couple of days on the Lachlan doing some fishing. The Lachlan is my “local”. I use two sleeping bags in winter…one inside the other. You can also use one of those sun reflective car window sunscreens under your bags or mattress to give you some reflective body heat. The ground will draw your body heat out of you.
I’ve heard those reflective setups are good. I’ll have to look into them! Thanks for the tip mate 🤙🏽
Great vid mate! Like others have said, you’re better without that air mattress in winter. Also a shovel load of coals under the stretcher is an old Roothy trick!
100% mate. Definitely learnt that the hard way 😂
things i use ...kings premium sleeping bag -5 to 5 ,kickass 12volt electric blanket, reflective padded foil thermal blanket under the swag mattress, and a Bivi bag which has a zipper on the side like a sleeping bag, also have a thermolite reactor liner (mummy type) and my mum made a liner from arctic polar fleece fabric (from spotlight) with a sleeping bag zipper which is made like a normal sleeping bag not a mummy type.
Sounds like a solid toasty setup! I’ve grabbed a couple of 12V blankets and they definitely help (especially for the kids) Thanks for the info! 🤙🏽
do you still use the darche swag? Or is it too big?
Yeah mate still getting used. Mainly just for when the kids come away. It’s just big and bulky but still love using it!
Your air mattress has no R value and your sleeping bag looks to light , you should have at least foam mattress or self inflating mattress, a -10 rated canvas bag like the 23zero Alaska and 12v heated throw blanket if you want to be spoilt, I also carry a small -2 rated down sleeping bag as back up for emergencies.
Spot on mate, definitely looking to add a high R-value mattress and the 23Zero sleeping bag was the first one I thought of! Thanks for the info legend! 🤙🏽
Brilliant swag but the mattress is a blow up fridge.Ditch it for a good self inflating one.I also put one of those silver survival blankets under my mattress to reflect heat.$5 from bunnings
Couldn’t have put it any better (blow up fridge 😂) Definitely going for a R value self inflatable setup and a quality sleeping bag. Didn’t think of the survival blanket though. I’ve actually got a couple in the ute 😂
Still no Green can in the hand big fella
@@Meatcleaver101 I’m still watching that price mate $$ 😂
@@OutNAboutAustralia
Look at you being a bit more artistic with your camera angles Well done
@@Meatcleaver101 thanks mate, not much idea what I’m doing just trying to pick it up as I go 😂
I ditched the swag on top of a stretcher years ago. Cold comes from underneath. Better off with it on the ground
Tell ya what I was feeling it on this one 😂 I’ll be going back to the ground through winter I reckon!
At least your out camping mate. Chips look good to
@jasonflett3587 they went down a treat that’s for sure. The cold oil trick was the go!
Awesome review cobber 👍 I’m looking for an upright for my canopy. Do you still rate the KINGS unit? Any cons you’ve found since this vid? Cheers
Thanks mate, bloody appreciate it! It’s still going strong, apart from the overheating that I fixed in my follow up video, it hasn’t missed a beat
Hey Bro, it's been 3 years since this review. How's the fire pit holding up? Looking at getting one of these
Hey mate, still going really well. I actually used it in my last video and my upcoming one this Friday. The base has got a little rust but other than that it's solid as a rock.
@@OutNAboutAustralia Just caught that on your intro to your last video! thanks brother. Looking forward to the next one
No worries mate plenty more to come 👍🏽
nice one, that mattress is a cracker for sure, I never liked air beds either but they have nailed it. Great review, cheers ✌🏻
No worries mate. Happy to help 👍🏽
Great video, I am an old Riverina lad, spent my life growing up on the Murrumbidgee, love those foggy mornings. Great channel, can't fault your channel name! Funny too, VicOffraod sent me one of those swag to check out the other day. I have testing it all out over the last couple of weekends and am hoping to get the review video out towards the end of the week, I'll go and hunt down your video now and check out what you thought. By the way, can't have too much butter, subbed, keep up the great Aussie content ✌🏻
Thanks mate appreciate the comment. Solid channel name yourself haha! It's been a pleasant surprise how the swag has performed. I'd be keen to see your video and find out your thoughts also.
Plenty of feedback of ItechWorld not meeting their claimed specifications. Buyer beware purchasing products from this mob. Much better "OZ" batteries on the market, it's just that those companies chose to spend their money on quality components instead of their marketing budget. Thanks for sharing, cheers.
Do you mind me asking where about on the Lachlan you are? Also, l do a bit of cold weather camping and have found ditching the stretcher and sleeping on the ground to be warmer.
Thanks for the tip mate, I'll have to give it a go. This was a reserve just called Lachlan River Reserve. I would guess about 10-15km outside of Forbes.
Just a tip...I have the same set up, quick float in the pan to butter the steaks then on the grill. Turn the steaks from a 7 to a 10.
Thanks mate, I'll be giving that a go for sure!
@@OutNAboutAustralia Nothing better than cooking for you friends and family. Simple things.
@shaneburns4349 spot on mate 👍🏽
Yep I was like you, paid about $250 for the same fire pit, does the job well but I have just purchased a different one, got a Oz Braai one like Harry from fire to fork and rate that high as well. Nothin beats a fire pit cook up. Cheers and beers.
Thanks mate, I have looked at the OzBraai unit. How do you go travelling with that one?
@@OutNAboutAustralia travel ok with it, i just chuck it in the dmax tub or in the caravan, as they both do basiclly the same job i do prefer the oz braai.
@beersintheshed. You may have just pushed me over the edge 😂
@@OutNAboutAustralia do it lol
Two mushrooms or one 🤔 Two steaks… no comment 😂
Yeah didn't really think that one through haha
Great video mate, just subscribed. White pepper is the King of Pepper!
Thanks mate, I appreciate it! As long as there's pepper on the steak, surely it can't be bad!
Hey mate how has the swag held up? You still using it?
Yeah mate, still using it and going the goods. It's got a few issues I've found through winter that I'll be talking about in a video in a couple of weeks.
The little shower head is for cleaning your arsehole I believe. They sell showers and bidetes
Great video…you could’ve doubled the amount of mushies though!! 😳👍👍
I reckon I could've mate. They went down a bloody treat!
Great overnighter vid Luke. Chef Jean Pierre says breaking asparagus is a myth, he peels his. Copping a bit of flack for cooking your steak in a pan, but how can you keep basting the butter on if it is on the grill? Nothing wrong with the pan. Cook it the way you like it. Always remember butter makes everything better, so does beer and so does bacon lol 😂.
Thanks mate, I appreciate that! It still tasted amazing, but I'm pretty keen to get that smokey flavour after seeing some comments haha! Spot on though. Butter always makes it better!
