    Brilliant swag but the mattress is a blow up fridge.Ditch it for a good self inflating one.I also put one of those silver survival blankets under my mattress to reflect heat.$5 from bunnings

      Couldn’t have put it any better (blow up fridge 😂)
      Definitely going for a R value self inflatable setup and a quality sleeping bag.
      Didn’t think of the survival blanket though. I’ve actually got a couple in the ute 😂

    things i use ...kings premium sleeping bag -5 to 5 ,kickass 12volt electric blanket, reflective padded foil thermal blanket under the swag mattress, and a Bivi bag which has a zipper on the side like a sleeping bag, also have a thermolite reactor liner (mummy type) and my mum made a liner from arctic polar fleece fabric (from spotlight) with a sleeping bag zipper which is made like a normal sleeping bag not a mummy type.

    I just spent a couple of days on the Lachlan doing some fishing. The Lachlan is my “local”. I use two sleeping bags in winter…one inside the other. You can also use one of those sun reflective car window sunscreens under your bags or mattress to give you some reflective body heat. The ground will draw your body heat out of you.

    • @OutNAboutAustralia
      @OutNAboutAustralia  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve heard those reflective setups are good.

    From someone who grew up near the Lachlan yes it gets cold. I use swag on stretcher with self inflating mattress and darche cold mountain bag. If used it in apline country in winter -10 still warm. Great to see the river again 👍.

      Darche is definitely looking the goods in terms of the sleeping bags to go with.

    Ditch the sleeping bag Luke, I would let my mother-in-law use that in summer. Nothing wrong with a stretcher and a swag in the cold, using mine all the time. Just need a decent bag and even a quilt and you’ll be set.
    I’m sold on the cold oil chips !! 👌💯

      @OutNAboutAustralia  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100% Gav, mate the stretchers staying for sure 😂 too easy to get out of bed in the mornings!
      I think I got a new bag online as soon as I woke up 😂
      I’ve chucked some foam in under the air mattress as well so hopefully that helps a bit…we’ll see how she goes 🤷‍♂️

    Guess who's shoppin for a new sleeping bag, you and I both bro. First time viewer and I enjoyed ya content, camping by a river in frosty conditions is right up my ally so I'll give ya a sub. Let us know how ya get on with ya sleeping arrangements and that inflatable sounds like a cool idea but I'd want some sort of motor. Paddling against a current or even a head wind would be a pain in the arse.

    I camp the same way, swag and stretcher in -2c......darche... so its foam matress. Could be the air mattress isnt insulating you as well, my sleeping bag is -10c..... I have a blanket over the top as well.
    Use hot water bottle mate, they work well, one that has a cover, it raises the temp really well. best $12 you'll spend 4 winter camping hahah. it saved my arse last time out

    Those inflatable swags are no good for the cold. Air mattresses just suck. Conventional swag with 70mm foam mattress, decent bag and toasty all night.

  • @sspacegghost
    @sspacegghost 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    ive come full circle - started out with full six person tent camping gear...worked out i was taking 99% of stuff i never used on trips. cut down to a single man tent which was pretty good, then a swag, but you do a night in outback Australia, the ground pulls all the heat out of a swag or small tent and you cant keep warm...so now I'm at sleeping in the car...which isn't really camping. i cant find a decent small one man option - the 4wd seat reclined with pillows wins...

    • @jae4807
      @jae4807 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same here, now the kids are old enough for tents or swags, their choice and they set up, I'm in my old 4WD. I made side window covers out of windscreen sunshades and attach with painters tape.

    • @sspacegghost
      @sspacegghost 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jae4807 you do know kmart has window covers pairs for like $8. double sided thick nylon like stockings, you slide them over the door, and shut it, velcro tabs with double sided tape to put them in place. eight bucks !!! total insect proof gives you airflow. their memory foam car seat inserts are amazing also, waterproof, can double as pillows. the memory foam car seat insert, inside your sheepskin covers, turns a crappy 4wd seat into a lumbar seat. I've got two in my drivers side, one to sit on one for lower back, and its like a proper support seat...whip them out when i sleep and use them as pillows..then slide them back in for the long drive. mem foam so don't absorb water. really comfy.

    Your air mattress has no R value and your sleeping bag looks to light , you should have at least foam mattress or self inflating mattress, a -10 rated canvas bag like the 23zero Alaska and 12v heated throw blanket if you want to be spoilt, I also carry a small -2 rated down sleeping bag as back up for emergencies.

    The sleeping bag looks like one I'd give my kids to take to summer camp with, maybe 5C rating at very best, more likely 10C. The air mattress has no insulation. Given it can get down to -5C you must have froze. Spare a thought for the aborigines who had roo skins at best. They must have been tough as old boots. I'm camping in the snow next weekend and I will have an R4 self inflating mat on top of an R2 foam closed cell mat under me and a -10C top quilt on top... while hanging in my Helsdon hammock.Should be warm as toast. BTW, never seen an inflatable swag before.

    the reason your cold is your on a stretcher in a inflatable swag so the cold air gets under your swag and using a air mattress and inflatable pillow that's asking to get cold as the air inside them gets cold , anything that inflates with air are the worst things to camp in colder weather with.

    I just bought a 23 Zero 900 bandit swag at overland mountain west. Nice folks wonderful product. i purchased it specifically for winter camping in Colorado. -20f -30f diesel heater blowing into the foot of the swag. Just thinking about it makes me sleepy. Swags are awesome.
