I wear a wool flannel shirt jacket under two waxed canvass jackets. Makes them into serious coats. Love the layered looks too. When traveling its a great way to pack light but real flexible for colder or warmer weather.

Genuinely interested in an honest response on this but I’ve always wondered why flashlights have become so incredibly complex, bulky bright and expensive… unless you need a very bright flashlight for outdoors or specific occupations or hobbies, I’ve never felt the need for anything brighter or more complex or compact than my streamlight microsteam. Any thoughts on real day today use scenarios where these other flashlights are better investments? Or is it like knives and pens where it’s just more fun and personal?

As a Canadian that's also worked in Alaska in the winter. For the extreme cold I had an insulated canvas snow suit that I "coated" with waterproofing, basically a wax canvas. Then layered underneath with a wool layer of course. When the wind picked up I'd wear an Oilskin vest under the snow suit. To give an example how cold it was we had to use a tiger torch to keep hydraulics on the machinery from freezing up. Which we used the exhaust pipes from the machinery to warm a second pair of gloves to rotate with. 😂. Almost 30yrs later I still have my last snow suit I wore, it's definitely time to retire it but can't seem to let it go. Some really good memories with it. 🤷 Those were some cold winters 😂🤠

I'm a short wide ex powerlifter and the fit of companies like Kato and Brave Star require me to buy XL for a tight fit in shirts and 2-3xl in jackets, bigger if I want to layer. They're still long in the body and arms requiring the extra expense of tailoring. That factor leads to reluctance in buying these expensive garments.

I just ordered the Duckfeet boots because the older I get the warmer I want to keep my feet. I've always wanted a shearling jacket but here in the central highlands of Arizona single digit temps are about the worst were going to see so it's hard to justify the expense.

How o you think the Weatherwool CPO and other similar shirt jacks compare to these?

Just ordered one of Heatstaps V1 deck jackets. The toughest part of this was knowing which size to order. I have one of their Woolen Lumbar Jackets in XL which fits great... but the size chart on the V1 in XL would swallow me. I decided to downsize to a L and I'm hoping it fits well. Guess I'll know in 6-8 weeks. :)

I’m doing a voodoo curse and deal with the devil, what ever I have to do to get a black workhorse this winter lol. Mid weight liner like flannel or Pendleton wool, I’d be overwhelmed with Joy. On another topic, will you be doing another winter work boot video??? I’m currently researching boots from Baffin, and Refridgerwear cause my feet are freezing up on rooftops in my Nicks boots. I need waterproof and safety toe, something good for climbing ladders.

When I started looking at quality and expensive things as a destination rather than a indicator of how far behind I am, I found myself being able to surround myself with quality and expensive things. I’m sorry getting negative feedback, I can’t afford a lot of expensive stuff yet but you’ve introduced me to a lot of brands that i hadn’t heard of before over the years and I’ve gotten a few things and hopefully someday I’ll be able to get more but I tune in for your knowledge on the craftsman ship so please keep up the great work and keep showing us the nicer brands.

Hey Carl, sucks the trolls have found you but they wont stop so don’t worry about those “people”. Working when sick is true blue collar, and another thing, blue collar workers can make real money if you get out of entry level laborer positions, but you need a drive to do better so maybe those folks lack ambition. Im an HVAC tech and I enjoy buying nice things, I work to be able to afford it. Everyone who's been in the trades a while, and earned raises and promotions all have nice houses, all the toys, and go on vacations. You have also never changed, you've always talked about nice things, it’s not like you sold out. Keep doing your thing dude…

I have a Berne jacket that I’ve used for over 10 years and I loved the thing, crazy durable and well made and warm. I bought a new one two years ago and it is really poorly made and designed, extremely disappointed in their drop in quality over the years. Been using carhartt since and it’s been good.

All things are not for all people yet all things happen in due time. It took me a long time to get to the point where I wasn’t living from paycheck to paycheck but now I can afford to spend a little more on clothing, shoes, knives, watches, etc. I still shake my head at some of the prices (or some of the zany styles) but I’m smart enough to realize I’m not that manufacturer’s target customer. I still enjoy seeing the stuff though. If you poll people from my generation in the army, I’d bet they’d say the two best pieces of gear the army ever issued them was the woobie (aka poncho liner) and field jacket liner.
