What Games Are Left to Play in 2024?
THIS IS A VIDEO REPSONSE TO RE-LOOIE'S GREAT VIDEO ON THE SAME TOPIC, CHECK OUT HIS VIDEO HERE: th-cam.com/video/daX6p9jgzbU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dYnf5KQttViKyowr
His original shoutout in the video got edited out, my bad.
There seems to be a bit of perception that 2024 is a slow year for games, or that there isn't much left to release. I'm here to prove that wrong by sharing some games coming soon that I can't wait to play, and others that I look forward to getting around to before the end of the year!

    Loveeee this kind of video, so satisfying! I thought something felt different and this confirms it! Q’s: 1. What’s your ideal solution for wall space competition between posters/wall hangings and games? 2. In the future would you prefer to have all games for parent systems together? Ie all PS series, etc. 3. What’s the most annoying system to organize? 4. What are some of your favorite special editions? Either in terms of game and the provided items, or just coolest swag? 5. Would you consider streaming room orgs in the future and then upload?

    Excellent picks, some really great indie gems here that I wasn't aware of that I'm looking forward to checking out now. There's no denying that Dragon Quest III HD is the real winner of 2024, cannot wait to play that game this fall, however sleep deprived I might be! I think you'll find Dragon Quest to be a great time to chip away at with baby in lap. Do a little grinding when you have a few spare moments? Thats just good stuff right there. I played Grandia when mine was first born and I firmly believe everyone should have a "newborn baby RPG" that they play during that blurry period of their life!

    It's been awhile since i've felt this overwhelmed with upcoming releases and games I missed, truly a crazy year for releases. I agree with Dragon Quest III HD-2D being the perfect type of classic cozy rpg we need for fall/winter, can't wait for that. In passing I casually added 1000xResist to my steam wishlist thinking the style looked really neat and I like a nice deep narrative game from time to time. But seeing its reviews on steam and everyone gassing it up recently... need to check that out by the end of the year.

    Some questions for the possible rearranging/Q&A video! 1. What do you miss most about games from the late 90s/early 2000s compared to now? 2. Do you have a particular game or handful of games you have fond memories renting from Blockbuster or a similar store? Maybe a game you took a chance on and it really surprised you. 3. What are you looking forward to most about the Switch’s successor console? Console features, games or something else entirely! 4. Do you have a go-to gaming soundtrack that you listen to that helps you relax or maybe you listen to while going for a walk/driving? 5. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being “no chance” and 10 being “I’ll be in line for that!”, how likely are you to buy the Switch 2, or whatever it might be called, day 1?

    I kinda got into collecting for the PS3 this year, but what's funny about the PS3 is that the best games are: 1) cheap and 2) available in more modern systems. Since i'm not one to buy a worse version of the same game, i don't buy stuff i already have like Uncharted (have the ps4 version) or Skyrim, which would lead me to go look for some hidden gems... It's tough, to say the least. Specially with the type of games i really like being turn-based combat JRPGs, there aren't that many good titles on PS3. My most recent purchases were Star Ocean Last Hope (not turn-based, but i liked Second Story R) and the combat is so annoying, then i go to Enchanted Arms and the game just feels like the most generic JRPG ever made.

    • @Blinkoom
      @Blinkoom 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I haven't played Enchanted Arms yet but sorry you weren't feeling it! I do agree that a lot of PS3 stuff is brought forward and I'm generally the same as you. I buy the best version of a game I can physically. Most of my PS3 stuff that you see that does have a PS4/PS5 port is just because I bought it when it first came out 15 years ago. Still though, it's nice more people can play great games like Ni no Kuni on modern systems so a win in the end

    • @Trololo231
      @Trololo231 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Blinkoom I'm sorry if it came across as a shot at you or your collection, i bought my PS3 in 2010 and had my time with it, but i was a kid back then and could only afford so much. I have like Dark Souls, Fallout NV, Metal Gear Anthology etc from back in the day, i think the only reason i don't have some of those games that now have ports is because i got a PC by 2013 and stopped caring about consoles... until the pandemic. Plus, i also had a jailbroken 360 back in the day and most of the singleplayer stuff i played there, since i was a broke kid i only wanted to spend money on games i could play online on the PS3. Your collection is awesome, tho.

    This is such a relatable video. I'm always subtly tweaking a shelf here and there for optimum use of my limited space. And it's never perfect, so the endless cycle of rearranging never ends.

    • @Blinkoom
      @Blinkoom 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I enjoy the puzzle but it IS never ending. I don't show it in the video but my Gamecube, 360, PS2... basically half my other systems are also at capacity haha. It's a fun struggle but the real solution is just buy a second house.

  • @RiouInsuiko
    @RiouInsuiko 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Also, as far as reorganizing goes, your life will be much better/easier if you have your games catalogued in Gameye, Collectorz, or even Pricecharting. To be honest it's still a nightmare unless you leave shelving space open for new games. Having to do the shelf shuffle where you move one game box over from shelf to shelf to fit a new game at the top gets pretty annoying. At times it's tempted me to just give up and have stuff out of order.

    • @Blinkoom
      @Blinkoom 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh yeah for sure! I use Backloggery to catalog all my games so I definitely have a list of them around. It's funny you say that it's tempting to leave out of order because basically every system I've done a collection video for on my channel (PS3, PS4, NES) are all still out of order :P I got too lazy to put them back into the proper order after I recorded, but I'll get to it eventually!

  • @SPac316
    @SPac316 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It's a nightmare we physical collectors all have to face... I did some rearranging of both my PS2 and PS3 games a few weeks ago and straighten them up better. But it means I would have to have my PS3 games in front of a row of my PS2 games obscuring them. I have them sitting on a top shelf in a closet. Also, I have the same or similar rack that you are using for your PS1 games. Those sliding holders do their job well when there's not enough to fill a whole row, but they take up space when you need it and I wish we could easily remove them when needed.

    • @Blinkoom
      @Blinkoom 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've seen other ones where you can pop that thing off so not sure why they insisted on forcing it, but yeah it can definitely be handy. As you can probably tell from my room, I just get all my shelves from thrift stores and stuff to save money, so I always just have a random smattering of whatever I can find.

    • @SPac316
      @SPac316 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Blinkoom Yea, same here. But some of mine are also ones I bought pre-cut that I have to build.

  • @RiouInsuiko
    @RiouInsuiko 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I have a similarly tight and dense game room and drilling additional holes for the ikea/atlantic/whatever furniture with pegs is also a solid way to go. You just need to make a template to drill them reliably so you're not drilling holes at different heights and having wobbly shelves. I've always had the same problem with inefficient shelving. One way or another there's always a gap that's annoying. I tend to buy the gigantic collector's editions as well so a lot of it for me is Tetris-ing them into wherever they fit without putting weight on the boxes and damaging them from stacking. In an unrelated note it's also a good idea to flip the shelves to help work out the bowing if they're the type that aren't indented on one side. Hopefully one of these days they make shelving for media like this that isn't insanely expensive but also doesn't droop down after like a year of having weight on them. PS1 stuff in particular loves to give shelving the sag.

    • @Blinkoom
      @Blinkoom 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The bowing thing I for sure need to do I just always forget haha. This would have been a good chance to do it too, so thanks for the reminder! Drilling new holes is honestly probably the way to go, I'll have to do some measurements and see how it works out for the shelves I have here.

    In June I got the extremely quick platinum and 100% for Horizon Forbidden West on Ultra hard with "only" 150 hours. I also did the ingame 100% during that. This game is one of my favourite games of all time. It is so incredibly good and I just loved every hour of it. My 2nd plat was Mass effect 2 that I had been chipping away at every monday. I have probably more than 2k hours in the trilogy if we include LE and the original one. Mass effect 2 on ps4/5 was the buggiest game I've ever played. If anyone ever plays the trilogy, just do yourself a favour and play them on PC. Since Saints Row 4 is leaving PS Plus I also grabbed the 100% for that. This game is just dumb fun with an okay story. Currently I've started my very first souls game with darksouls 3. I'm also chipping away at the Ghost of Tsushima 100%, still have to finish the NG+ and then have to do legends.

The other game which I just started last night but am loving is Lost Odyssey. I remember playing the opening hour a few years back but got distracted and attentions were pulled elsewhere. This game is so damn good. From the soundtrack to the setting it’s just really impressive what they managed to accomplish and it’s from like 2007/2008 I believe which makes it all the more mind blowing 🤯 Keep up the incredible work and good luck with your goals 😁

There so many games that you didn't get to that I love and can't wait to hear your feedback on them. Definitely saw some games I'm interested to check up on latter. "The Girl and the Golem" from part 1 is a shoo-in for now but I'm going to have to research a couple others. Anyways, as promised, i think I do have some recommendations to give of my own, though not all of them are PS4 exclusive. I'm just hoping I don't bring up something you've already mentioned, it's easy to lose track of what you already brought up since there was so many. But yeah, as always, no promises. I guess first and foremost, I really want to recommend "Mad Rat Dead". It's a 2D rhythm platformer, very much like "Crypt of the Necrodancer" or "Hi-Fi Rush" where you have to input actions at the timing of a beat. With different songs, and difficulty settings, affected the BPM and rhythm. But on top of that, it also has a surprisingly touching story that you wouldn't expect about a colorful game where you play as an angry, undead rat. You mentioned liking horror related games and I think I got a couple of those as well. Most prominently would be "Darkwood". It's top-down survival-horror heavily based on Slavic influences, leading it to have a rather unique atmosphere. You explore during the day but then have to try to survive the night by any means as enemies stumble into or raid your base. Aside from that, I guess maybe the second and third "Yomawari" games might be interesting, "Midnight Shadows" and "Alone in the Dark" respectively. They are isometric exploratory games based around Japanese yokai and other folk tales. Though they're not really scary per-se, more just spooky. One game I don't really see covered much is "Blue Fire". The best way I can describe it is that it's an action-adventure game akin to "Legend of Zelda", "Wind Waker" in particular due to having a similar aesthetical style, but with a much larger emphasis on platforming. I think you mentioned "Teslagrad" at some point so I suppose I should bring up "World to the West". Technically speaking, this was the unofficial sequel before the actual sequel. It takes place in the same setting but in a different location entirely. Gameplay-wise, it's basically an isometric puzzle game where you navigate this open world using 4 characters, all of whom have their own abilities of course. Heck, one is even a Teslamancer with some of the same abilities from "Teslagrad". You only control one at a time though but you can swap between any of them at select checkpoints. But when you swap, all the uncontrolled characters remain where you left them at other checkpoints, so you are constantly working to figure out how to get everyone to where you need them, which often requires you setting things up with one character so another character can then proceed after. I'm very big into 2D action-platformers but there are just so many to mention, all with their own gimmicks or styles. "Sundered", "Smelter", "Cogen: Sword of Rewind", "Dark Devotion", "Sword of the Vagrant", "Carrion", "Afterimage", "Rabi-Ribi", "Lapis x Labyrinth", etc. Just, way too many. Though if I'm going to highlight one, it has to be "Ender Lilies". While it doesn't have what I'd consider to be an unique gimmick, it's just solid all around. A very somber and beautiful aesthetic, really polished and diverse gameplay, a wonderfully haunting OST, etc. I cannot recommend it enough if you're into those types of games. And heck, it's even getting a sequel soon-ish, "Ender Magnolia". I'm also very into RPGs but I'm a little more hesitant on recommending those. That said, I do want to mention "Mistover". It's kind of a weird mix of genres, it plays like a Mystery Dungeon until you enter battles which are basically just a spin on "Darkest Dungeon". So its very much not a forgiving game if you mess up badly. Though that said, the game does come with various modifiers that allow you mess around with stats and other difficulty options, essentially creating your own custom experience. Unfortunately, the game has been delisted everywhere (both on consoles and Steam alike) so getting it physically is the only way to play it now. And, at least for us, that means importing the Asian copies with the English text option. And that's the main reason why I wanted to mention it, since it's essentially being forgotten due to unavailability. Well, I got more but this should be enough for now. Can't ramble on for too long. Hope at least something in this spiel of a comment ends up interesting you.

      Daaaang thank you so much for all the recommendations! A few of these I have on other platforms but plenty of these I don't have so I'll have to look them up. You're the best!

    Nier Replicant might have the best OST ever?! Definitely a game I need to get around to sooner rather than later. That and the Yakuza series feel like two glaring omissions when it comes to my PS4 game playing experience. Also I had NO idea The Last Tinker had a physical release! It's supposed to play very similarly to Jak & Daxter Precursor Legacy so, you know, the premium good stuff. I have it digitally and have been meaning to play it 😎 I'll make a deal...you show me proof of credits in Wolfenstein: The New Order, and I will spend whatever time it takes to beat Impossible Lair.
