The Only Games I've Ever Given a 1 Star Rating

- I love games! Most games in fact. So much so that people don't event think I'm capable of disliking a game, but that's not true! Here are all the games I've ever given a 1 star rating.

I think the game I took most offensive too personally was Hulk on the Genesis. However I did play that game as a kid and haven't seen or played it since. I am scared to give it a try and shatter my memory that it's an actual decent game.

Over the past 10+ years of really 'backloggin' so to speak, I can say I found a similar general philosophy around games and gaming that you have.
Now granted my collection is pretty curated so I am largely playing games that have some notoriety or legacy pedigree being part of a franchise or loved series going back to between gens 3 and 5 of the consoles. But all the same, what I've found is the act of 'playing a game' is inherently a pretty fun thing to do and it takes a lot for me to not feel that way.
In the 250+ games I beat I have only given six of them a 1-star rating, which to me equates to an actual bad game, a bad experience. The vast majority, by star ranking on backloggery, I have given 3-stars which to me equates to a good game.
But yeah think about it, a game that's bad is bad compared to what? Not playing the game? Games are made to be fun...and they really have to tip the scales for me to really think it was a completely negative experience.
A fun list and a fun video, I think the one I'm most curious about is Skate or Die. Always found those games hard to control and they never clicked so...idk maybe they are 'bad'?
Skate or Die is one I really do need to replay to see how I land. I've had my Backloggery since 2008, and some of these reviews are just about that old, so I have no idea what I was thinking 15 years ago. Definitely one I'll go back to and see where the new rating might land (if it changes at all).
Glad to hear you have a similar philosophy. I've always had the mentality that I'm going into a game looking to have fun, so can then usually extract some fun out of it. That might make me less of an analytical critic, but the trade off is that I on average have more fun than most people. Or at least, I think I do? lol.

Thinking on it I don't think I've ever given a game a 1-star or the equivalent out of 10. Maybe it depends on differences of how we'd rate a game. I would give a fair number of points to a game I thought was utterly boring but still functionally sound and coherent by all other metrics. To me a 1-star would be something that is boring or not fun in additional to suffering by critical flaws like glitches, bugs, poor performance, etc. Most of the time I'd stick to saying that I liked something, didn't, or maybe that it was middle of the road. Perhaps using stronger language for the more extreme ends. Interesting to see your picks though. Surprisingly a lot of games I'd never played despite owning some of them 😅. Honestly I have a hard time even thinking of 5 'bad' games I've played. Ones that come to mind anyway.
Yeah I think these days I'd be pretty similar. Something I don't think I mentioned is that a lot of these ratings are pretty old. A decade ago I was apparently a lot more harsh when it came to rating my games 😅
Whoa, I was fully expecting Vagrant Story based on how much you’ve dunked on it over the years! This was fun bc you never 1-star anything, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time 😂
Haha spoilers for the next vid but VS is a 2 star game! Gets a little bump for a really cool art style and vibe but otherwise.... Yeah lol. The 2 star vid will be great fun
I honestly had to check to see if I had any 1-star rating's on Backloggery and I didn't have any! The next closest is a 2-star game, and it was Fast and Furious Crossroads on PS4, with my comment being "It doesn't have graphics, it has family (don't play this game)" 😂 I had a Rugrats GBC game that was equally terrible called Rugrats Time Travelers and it was one of the first GBC games I can remember getting. But there was at least a crane game minigame that made it tolerable. I'm a little hurt about Spider-Man showing up here, not to mention Fellowship of the Ring! Partially kidding, because Fellowship is pretty terrible, but after the opening Shire mission where you have to lure the Nazgul (which is infuriating), it goes in some really interesting directions. Especially with how many different characters you play as throughout the adventure, with none of the RPG/upgrade stuff of the later EA LotR games. A game I've been meaning to replay myself.
I hope you continue with this, at the very least with 2 and 5 star games, because the in between game ratings could be a LONG video (I've seen your Backloggery page before buddy) lol Excellent video and looking forward to more!
Haha not gonna lie when I was giving out that 1 star to LotR I was 100% thinking "damn is Rusty gonna rake me over the coals for this one"?! But glad to see you at least partially agree haha. We can ALL agree that Two Towers and RotK go HARD though.

This was a fun video. I will trade you your score on Morrowind for how I feel about one you love I’m sure, Shadow of Colossus. Everyone loves that game and calls it the best game ever, but I found the world so empty and boring. I never finished it so I didn’t actually score it, but I was not a fan. :)

I got Batman Forever for my birthday one year and was devastated by how awful it was, lol. Didnt see Quest 64, so it looks like youre still on the "cool" list, haha.
I'm here to say it, Quest 64 deserves better!! Sorry that someone decided to use a gift to ruin your birthday haha
Why do you hate games so much?
Bro, there’s a lot of bad games out there and while I’ve played a good amount of games that are easily 1/10 games, there’s one game I played that truly deserves every amount of hate it can get. That game is Persona 5 Dancing Star Night (PS4). That game is truly one of/if not the worst game I’ve ever played.

You genuinely can't have played many games if Persona 5 Dancing is the worst. It's not great or anything, but there's nothing in it terrible or offensive enough to warrant a 1/10.
