that bass is in les's custody! love ler's solo, it's rare that you see a whole 4 minutes deicated to him, he's such an underrated guitarist. he uses so many different techniques that many other guitarists rarely use, and he does it so effectively and well.
C'mon, every metalhead knows he comes from the Death Metal pioneering band Possessed. Every one of them knows for what's he worth ( a LOT). It took some time (back in the day) to get used to this antics within Primus, but we've mustered it ))) We wuv it )
You guys aren't wrong at all, but I blinked and realized you guys, 10 days ago, replied to a 10 YR old comment - it just made me laugh,..Ler still fucking rocks, saw primus twice last year - amazing..
This is new to me but it has quickly come to be one of my favorite Primus songs... Other songs off this album now, I've heard, but where has this one been? Uploaded 17 years ago... wow. Back in the day, we used to buy albums and we heard every song on them whether we wanted to or not. Nowadays, we either go on our own personal deep exploratory dives or I guess, we're stuck with what the algorithms generously offer.
I went to 2 Primus concerts and the only thing they played from the Brown album was Golden Boy. IMO, the Brown album was Primus at their best, pretty much every song is great. But apparently Les doesn't think so as he barely ever plays anything off of it.
Ler is very zappa inspired it feels to me. I used to have a zappa cd curated by Ler. Had some classics and some relatively unknown zappa gems with ideations that Ler clearly has incorporated into his repertoire
He used on solo: Minor pentatonic, Wole Tone, Diminished scale, Bizantine scale... Amazing and so creative guitarplayer. Little mistakes as like Les Claypool but nothing serious at point spoiler this song.
You do know that he is considered a godfather of Death Metal due to helping originate the guitar sound affiliated with the genre during his time in Possessed right?
Some influences, in time signature much more straight then Zappa. But Larry used many modal scales on that performance: Bizantine, pentatonic, mixolidian, whole tone, dimished ... Amazing creativity! A little bit impresise but nothing spoiled.
i wish there was more than one live recording of this song, somebody please save us! i’ve asked them if they would do this song live during the vip Q&A this tour & les legit said “ nah “ 😂😅 so i guess i need to live vicariously through these recordings….🤘
Sheesh that's a blunt downer lol. I asked during Q&A what the hardest song for each of them is. Only Ler and Les answered: Scissor Man and Xanadu respectively. Also there's a live version on Rhinoplasty with an equally great Ler solo. Also-also check Toasterland for live audio of it. That site's pretty exhaustive.
Lots of people in the comments talking about how underrated Larry is as a guitarist. I’m hoping these folks are aware that he is considered a godfather of Death Metal due to his time in Possessed. He is one of the pioneers that incentive that entire genre.
4:32 That's my Larry! Whoever said Ler is the weakest link is wrong, he is great! Listen to Harold of the Rocks live very good guitar.. I don't particularly like Brain, Herb was so much better but hey great live song here!
Taylor Swanson I think what you mean is that Brain and Herb are different drummers and Les wanted something new. Herb is not better in any way. It's a matter of taste.
Ryan Laking thats bullshit. Herb left to do something else, he didn't get kicked out because les wanted something else. and herb is the more unique drummer of the two, his polyrhythmic technique, incorporation of ghost notes and double bass drum technique are fucking insane. just listen to tommy the cat, eleven or John the fisherman, Brain can't hold a candle to Tim.
+Buddy Guy Les Claypool wouldn't play with ANY sub-par drummer....every person who ever played drums with Primus has been a true professional to say the least. Jay Lane, Herb, Brain......all brilliant.
Nirvana was a good band, but that doesn't make Kurt Cobain a fantastic guitar player. Kurt would not have been able to improvise a solo this long, technical, and interesting off the top of his head. That's all fine and good if you're a Nirvana fan, but think before you say things.
if u mean the really fast part, u tap the 16th fret on the g string then hammer on the 10th and 12th fret on the d and then tap the 17th fret on the d --T16--------- -----h10-h12-T17
Yo fryBASS, Fellow Bassist. Fuck yes, could be quite the distant, quiet the lifestlye. But yes I feel yeassssss. Dont you wish we had more Lers in the world??
Yrs from now, I will tell my sons that this was a boy band who competed for attention against NSNYC and Backstreet Boys. And that this boy band... well... this boy band was the "different" option.
You don't seem to have much respect for your future sons' ability to discern one sound from another. Thinking further on it, I have to wonder what exactly you'd be hoping to gain from such a bizarre experiment, as the only thing I can think of is that Les will hear about it one day and write a really fucked up song about it.
this is amazing wtf. I only wish that this version kept the kick pattern from the studio version. that (1,a,+,e) pattern bought the frenzy to this song.
hah his voice cracked at 1:24... primus sucks. all you people who don't understand, that was their motto. god i need to listen to the brown album through again, i haven't in a long time...
Ler deserves so much more respect than he gets!!! Fucking brilliant guitarist.
He is a pleasure to listen to!
You need to check out his work in Possessed. He is considered the pioneer of Death Metal guitar playing.
He's a fast player to.
One of the best primus songs for me. Along with fish on, over the electric grapevine and ol' diamondback sturgeon
I love all primus but lately over the electric grapevine became one of my favourites out of nowhere. A blast to play too!
Did we just become best friends!!!!! And hamburger train too right??? and welcome to this world!!
that bass is in les's custody!
love ler's solo, it's rare that you see a whole 4 minutes deicated to him, he's such an underrated guitarist. he uses so many different techniques that many other guitarists rarely use, and he does it so effectively and well.
crazyedd123 I mean he’s just as virtuosic as Les, he’s just more restrained, which is part of makes him so good
I think you'll find he's very highly rated, it just depends who you're talking to eye suppose!
Larry is very underrated. He’s such a great guitarist
That's another guitarrist
He’s an amazing guitarist, and the rest of the band is ok too
Primus is the greatest band ever of all time. and every real musician knows it!!!!!!!
C'mon, every metalhead knows he comes from the Death Metal pioneering band Possessed. Every one of them knows for what's he worth ( a LOT).
It took some time (back in the day) to get used to this antics within Primus, but we've mustered it )))
We wuv it )
@@enidesouzabarros8852 no that’s definitely ler, just with a different hairstyle than usual
focking love this band and omg ler that solo drives me nuts, pure perfection
this is american rock at it's finest. finest
Ler was doing some fucking work during his solo! so goooood!
Brain just brings out a different part of primus.
It's been 13 years u commented this. But u are so fucking right
The Brown Album was percussion precision. Such a talent!
IMO with Brain Primus gets more funk, with Herb Primus gets more prog. Both great!
Insane live version!!!
Damn Ler's solo destroys my brain every time
“Possessed” you could even say.😉🤘
they have turned into a jam band. Love it!
woah. this song rocks.
Nah, it sucks obv 😂
3 of the most talented musicians ever to Jam together!
He plays some crazy stuff on guitar. I like how he pretty much ditches the usual scales and just plays off the cuff.
Dude literally makes up his own scales he’s a freakin genius
Years from now people will be studying the many scales of ler
You guys aren't wrong at all, but I blinked and realized you guys, 10 days ago, replied to a 10 YR old comment - it just made me laugh,..Ler still fucking rocks, saw primus twice last year - amazing..
Larry Lalonde "Ler" my hero
This is really cool. So much better than the version released on LP
This would be high on the list of their songs I’d want to see live.
He uses those weird unconventional modes so good
I seen primus earlier this year. Ive seen a lot a artists live but i would follow les and ler all over the country if i could
Ler is criminally underrated
just perfect! they are so tight live.
@daviesad77 it seems almost an oxymoron to call Ler the weakest link, they're all so phenominally talented
Calling him the weakest link is insane, if anything he’s their secret weapon
I went to 2 Primus concerts and the only thing they played from the Brown album was Golden Boy. IMO, the Brown album was Primus at their best, pretty much every song is great. But apparently Les doesn't think so as he barely ever plays anything off of it.
I love the brown album so god damn much
Thats sn excellent version!
Ler is very zappa inspired it feels to me. I used to have a zappa cd curated by Ler. Had some classics and some relatively unknown zappa gems with ideations that Ler clearly has incorporated into his repertoire

You do know that he is considered a godfather of Death Metal due to helping originate the guitar sound affiliated with the genre during his time in Possessed right?
the solo is so zappa
💯 even on the album version, albeit much more condensed
It's not surprising, Zappa was Larry's big influence as a teen!
Some influences, in time signature much more straight then Zappa. But Larry used many modal scales on that performance: Bizantine, pentatonic, mixolidian, whole tone, dimished ... Amazing creativity! A little bit impresise but nothing spoiled.
glad you caaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmeeeeeee.... glad you're heeeeeerrrrrreee... have some champagneeeeeeee.... imported beeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr.
How in the fuck did i just discover this absolute banger. And i consider myself a fan lol
Ler's using a fucking sick guitar.
I just found this vid and that's the first thing I noticed. That guitar is, indeed, sick!
the song is sooooo good for concerts
Brain is such an amazing drummer.🤘
I dont understand why the brown album isn't as beloved as some of the other entries in the primus catalogue, brain is such a fucking beast
I do love the "Brown Album" ! Possibly my third favourite Primus release!
Basses across the country are hoping to get Les for Christmas this year.
i wish there was more than one live recording of this song, somebody please save us! i’ve asked them if they would do this song live during the vip Q&A this tour & les legit said “ nah “ 😂😅
so i guess i need to live vicariously through these recordings….🤘

hehe his voice cracks at 1:25
Lots of people in the comments talking about how underrated Larry is as a guitarist.
Do people really say that? Ler is the shizz!
Ya'll crazy, they are both supremely talented drummers, each with their own style.
+Buddy Guy Les Claypool wouldn't play with ANY sub-par drummer....every person who ever played drums with Primus has been a true professional to say the least. Jay Lane, Herb, Brain......all brilliant.
amazing

I am kind of a nirvana fan and i agree kurt has some really good riffs and stuff but this guy is on another level
Kurt Cobain was an infinitely better songwriter than he ever was a guitarist
Приобнял.
😮Awesome...
simple amazing performance from the greates`t Bass player in the nowne universe!
Hey You with the face...Cyclone Pinball.
I heard that they did play "Shake Hands with Beef" not too long ago.
Well said, man. 'Brain sucks at drums' ...my fucking aching sides!
5:10 mind=blown
A special moment where we all realize "Seeing a band like Primus live is a MUST!"
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW BOBOBOBOBOBBOBOBOB'S PARTY YOOOOOOOOO
Goddamnit this song rocks!
Les gets it... Not many do...
ler and les as a combo are unreal
it cracks tunefully
No one does it like these guys.
hey, I bet even les would tell out-right he was hugely influenced by Rush.....
I envision the interlude as what's on the radio almost :)
Note the fact that he didn't say Brain, he said Brian... Everybody's gotta love 27 Seconds Of Brain.
man...just a burst of seratonin waiting to happen
on tour this summer, and headlining gathering of the vibes in CT
Brain's work in this song. Dude is WORKING. Holy. Friggin. Crap.
well larry does like frank zappa, there is a compilation cd called zappa picks: larry lalonde.
Fucking Brian is killing it with those sizzles.
Primus TOUR this SUMMER!!!!!!!!!! GO Vibes or bust
if u mean the really fast part, u tap the 16th fret on the g string then hammer on the 10th and 12th fret on the d and then tap the 17th fret on the d

BLAH
Truth. I would add the bassist too.
thanks.
¡Qué buen tema!
Yo fryBASS,
Fellow Bassist.
Fuck yes, could be quite the distant, quiet the lifestlye. But yes I feel yeassssss. Dont you wish we had more Lers in the world??
When you swap the Bass & Guitar ideology within a band structure and still solo like this = Gods!!
Also...BRAIN 😱😍🤟 ps...Primus Suck 😋🦧
1:24 that poor voice crack
NICE version.
Nice
LErry fucking lalonde!
saw them in milwaukee
Thanks bro
Actually it's about Bob Sacamano
eh... BPTL isnt on TftP, its on the Brown album :-P. anyways zhx for posting
does larry have red hair here or is it just the lights??
GOD DAYUM!
@pcpgorilla curt cobain, more like curt go bang am i right?
Why do i think the Brown Album was made for Ler? Because seriously Ler's guitar riffs are sick.
@english2me I'm talking about LER over here.
Yrs from now, I will tell my sons that this was a boy band who competed for attention against NSNYC and Backstreet Boys. And that this boy band... well... this boy band was the "different" option.
You don't seem to have much respect for your future sons' ability to discern one sound from another. where the hell did you read that? Brown album is good for what it is.
wonder if he dyed it blue before they played "BOB"?
Does anyone know where to get the guitar tab for this song??
Primus SUCKS . Tanks 4 sharing BOB loves you.
this is amazing wtf. I only wish that this version kept the kick pattern from the studio version. that (1,a,+,e) pattern bought the frenzy to this song.
haha this is gold
6:19 Sounds like eclectic electric
Larry's guitar solo , ..... :)
The brown album is my favorite album primus has done, actually. The grooves are amasing. and Brain is perfect for primus.
thanks I got the technique down. the part around 1:31 with the flamenco strum
mmmm steamy
bobs party time
no doubt, YYZ i believe is what your thinkin of
hopefully you mean he sucks just the way primus sucks, brian is a groove machine
Can anybody do a guitar cover of this performance?
Awwwww I love brain, but don't be hatin' on Herb :(
on T.V.? Never...Saw them live several times in the late 80's and early 90's.
you shouldn't need to explain it.
if they have to ask, they'll never know ;)
hah his voice cracked at 1:24...
primus sucks.
all you people who don't understand, that was their motto.
god i need to listen to the brown album through again, i haven't in a long time...
