@@sgtbaker2072 yeah I mean you don't see it getting mentioned as often as, say, Tommy the Cat or Jerry Was a Racecar Driver, when at least for some fans its arguably one of their very best tracks ever. Also an EPIC bass line, even by the extremely lofty standards Les obviously sets
+Kevin Sepe it's another level-album. It's sad that it did'nt get the approoval of the masses it deserves. Interscopes focus on that time was Limp Bizkit and nu-metalstuff
not the reason he I started playing bass, but he's definitely the reason I learned how to slap/pop, and so was also a gateway into a whole bunch of genres I had never considered prior to that (funk, prog, jazz, etc- I was a pretty strictly alt/metal guy before getting into Primus, which led to learning to how to play slap/pop style, which lead to checking out these other genres I never followed before that)
man, i hate it when people say it's easy to play. it just means they're playing it wrong...besides playing is only half the battle, you have to write it first
my old guitar teacher always said that ler must be one of the most underrated guitarists ever... then he taught me groundhogs day, now i say the same thing!
they also just did a tour in late 2006, I was at the philly show les had laringitous so they didn't perform for long but we got to hear hamburger train.
Les has said that this is his least favorite album because the guys in the band weren't really getting along, but this was the album that introduced me to the band after seeing them at Ozzfest in 1999. Personally I love this album. It doesn't have the same sort of wacky vibes as previous albums, but it's still damn good.
I was doing lights for the Gathering of the Vibes in 2000, Les was onstage before getting his gear set while the band on the 1st stage was finishing up, so I walked up to him, shook his hand and said, Les, just wanted to say your other band sucks"...he looked at me puzzled, smiled, and said thanks!
Great album for sure, this to me has the funny wackiness that he does in seas of cheese in this antipop song. A lot of songs are underrated as most don't know Primus the way they should.
obviously every Primus album is full of great bass riffs, but Anti-Pop was PARTICULARLY good. This song may be my favorite Primus bass-line period (up there with Tommy, at any rate), and Lacquer Head is really close behind.
The only songs from this album that Les seems to like are Dirty Drowning Man and Coattails of a Deadman, so we're probably not going to see this one live.
@omarkaya42 Yeah you are right about the production. That was the first Primus album that just came off sounding crystal clear to me, to be able to seperate the bass from the drumming and guitars... I just got home from seeing them live tonight in Pittsburgh! Sadly my friend, not one song from Antipop :-/ Awesome videos from that show will be posted!!! ;-)
ok guys for all of you who gave me thumbs down you need to read this........Primus Sucks is there old catch phrase, I guess you can call it that. They used to have the crowds screaming it before they went on stage and played. The irony is that that is what helped make them famous.
Has anyone noticed that the first verse is about cancer, and radiation tharapy when it was a lot deadlier, and getting cancer is basically death, unless you find it extremely early
claypool es una bestia!!!! no es para cualkiera primus.....el q busca tecnica, majestuosidad, locura y originalidad sabe q primus tiene todo eso.....buen guitarrista tmb eh visto muy buenos solos de el. saludos
Your nothing more than ...Dead Right!!! I can relate to their style in many jamming sessions with mates and maself. I want his bass guitar too, that thing looks like a teflon ride for the pinky!!!
there is NO one who can "sing" the way claypool does it! it's nothing like i have ever heard before! brand new.. i love them.. they were the reason i got back into music after 4 years of not playing at all, i heard them for the first time in my life, the next day i went to the music store got a bass guitar and started playing again... i plied drums and keybord before! now i play ONLY BASS!!!
if i remember, he's used the black CT 4 string a lot of times. in a video of lacquer head live he's using it. im pretty sure that he got it w/ black finish tho
Yeah Primus amazing!!! I got too see Les play in st. louis last st. pattys day.. it was the day he released the fugi album so he play alot of that stuff.. I was in totally aww. Like when charlie murphy saw Rick james i saw his aura and shit.. he play a primus tease of Southbound Pachyderm but went back into david macklaster lol
Primus Sucks is there old catch phrase, I guess you can call it that. They used to have the crowds screaming it before they went on stage and played. The irony is that that is what helped make them famous. so really i love primus with a passion. so do you get it?:??
@BradleyVolk3 @natural11001001 You're both spot on. This is one of the most unique Primus albums due to its song structures and production which sort of broke away from the Primus formula. Green Naugahyde drops right back into the thick of it, which is fuckin' choice, but Antipop is SPECIAL, and folks will realize this even more as time goes on. Sick!
This song is criminally underrated
Is it??
@@sgtbaker2072 yeah I mean you don't see it getting mentioned as often as, say, Tommy the Cat or Jerry Was a Racecar Driver, when at least for some fans its arguably one of their very best tracks ever. Also an EPIC bass line, even by the extremely lofty standards Les obviously sets
Antipop is underrated period. You never hear about that album at all.
fucking right
Fr and it's also about war in the ,middle east
underrated song from an underrated album..
Kevin Sepe So true
+Kevin Sepe I agree 100%.
+Kevin Sepe it's another level-album. It's sad that it did'nt get the approoval of the masses it deserves. Interscopes focus on that time was Limp Bizkit and nu-metalstuff
+Kevin Sepe yeah i love this album soo good
Fatalsprigs Yeah naah man, this album is golden.. Dark Primus! Fuck yeah!
look at all those girls enjoying primus.... why aren't they real?
There is nothing sexier than a woman enjoying Primus. And I'm gay.
It’s crazy that this comment was made when I was 2 and ima bouta start highschool
@@UrFavGuyInABassProShopHat12345 It's also crazy that you like Primus being so young. Keep rockin'!
Ugh the antipop is such a good album
Everyone likes to hate on the Antipop album, but this is one of my favorite Primus songs. Great performance!
Who's hating on this album??
Antipop is their best and funkiest album, i´ve got it ;)
Ironically one of their “poppiest” albums but still has some really solid tracks!
Best one the best albums in existence
@@waltysalamander how's it poppy? there's heaps of heavy tracks on it!
By far one of their most underrated songs.
Primus is everything i ever wanted in music and much MUCH more
I agree. For me it's same
Couldn't have said it better myself. But so are Mr. Bungle, NoMeansNo & Acid Bath...for me
@TheBlazingBassist he's the reason thousands of people play bass.....myself included. the man is a true inspiration
not the reason he I started playing bass, but he's definitely the reason I learned how to slap/pop, and so was also a gateway into a whole bunch of genres I had never considered prior to that (funk, prog, jazz, etc- I was a pretty strictly alt/metal guy before getting into Primus, which led to learning to how to play slap/pop style, which lead to checking out these other genres I never followed before that)
No man ought to be this good with this instrument.
Dude. Primus influenced Tool. Primus has been around since 1984.
People think it's the other way around sadly
I think this is one of their best songs. I saw them on this tour with Buckethead as the opener. It was amazing.
ah, i remember this. this marks the last time there was something worth watching on MTV
i completely agree. everything sounds clear and crisp, and they're playing so tightly together!
love the end
"i'll tell you when i'm finished, fuckers, i wrote the song!"
I just got Antipop this week, and holy shit I'm impressed. Best album I've heard so far. I've also heard Pork Soda and The Brown Album.
I agree. It's very impressive. I think It's frist album I heard from Primus
Omg tales from the punch bowl is my favorite, im assuming you’ve checked that out in the past 3 years since you left the comment lol.
Better check out tales from the punch bowl lol
This is like my favourite song right now
Me rn, lol
i fucking love this song
love the ending. he's like, "i'll stop when i'm good and ready!"
man, i hate it when people say it's easy to play. it just means they're playing it wrong...besides playing is only half the battle, you have to write it first
I keep dreaming this song in my sleep not sure why but it is what it is
maybe u should greet the sacred cow
I love the indian-style guitar riffs ^^
I love this song so much, My band covered it and i have to say it was one of the funnest songs I have ever played live.
One of the best vids of Primus.. Thank you for showing this.😎
crazy bass!!!
Gem song !! ❤️🔥
claypool has some killer endurance, bass playing is like second nature... I'm so jealous
hes so talented when you here his music you can almost taste his talent and smell the burnin comming of thoses strings!!!!
Woo Primus

Primus off the chain. Blew the roof off that live studio.
Simply the top!
Primus are and will always be amazing!!!! Bring on the FUNK!!!!
Wish I could have been there 😍🤩
One of their best songs
DAYUM!!! KICK ASS!! i LOVE THIS SONG!!! thanks for the post!!
that bass is amazing!
my old guitar teacher always said that ler must be one of the most underrated guitarists ever... then he taught me groundhogs day, now i say the same thing!
You forget how good some songs are until you hear them live. This one is better live for sure.
I wish the video was of better quality, the performance is brilliant!
they also just did a tour in late 2006, I was at the philly show les had laringitous so they didn't perform for long but we got to hear hamburger train.
i think when you talk about how a musician you've never met teaches you how to play, then you're a good musician.
It is Brain. Tim left in '96, after Tales From the Punchbowl. Brain played on the next 3 albums, and then Tim re-joined '03.
I love watching les play. He is the reason I play bass
Gotta love the jumpsuits.

line em up now.
Love this song.
oh, Matt Pinfield... you + Rachtman were the only reasons to watch MTV back in the day
A friend of mind his daughter turned me on to primus I've been a fan every since
Brian Mantia, please come back again!
Brown Album and Antipop are so cool
Still here 2024🎉
Yeah I love that song too.
dude this is so ownage :) its so like his own style no1 else has this style dude how sweet..
Sailing the seas of cheese has been and will always be my favorite album of theirs
Great album for sure, this to me has the funny wackiness that he does in seas of cheese in this antipop song. A lot of songs are underrated as most don't know Primus the way they should.
Les makes this look like its nothing, thanks for the post
What’s cool is that there are moments during the chorus that Les seems to be levitating over the crowd....or maybe he really is!!!!
You nailed that one LOL!!!
Nice bass playing, nice drumming
primus just came in my ear
@GoGoNards Props to you for not being cliche and praising Claypool. While Claypool is amazing, the other bandmembers are just as talented.
Line 'em up now!
i just realized that les can pull off basically any look he wants. No matter how he dresses, it just works
even a lobster suit
It's unfair that one person has so much talent.
I wish they would play this in set lists these days, that album had alot of slap happy bass riffs in it.
obviously every Primus album is full of great bass riffs, but Anti-Pop was PARTICULARLY good. This song may be my favorite Primus bass-line period (up there with Tommy, at any rate), and Lacquer Head is really close behind.

Primus needs to release a new album!!!
They released 3 more and one EP.
Insane performance bro
The voice is not to the height but Les remains a god for his playing!
very nice job on that one!
Sick.!!! LOVE THIS ALBUM, Thanks
I loved Brain as their drummer. Oh well, good to see Tim back with them.
Has anyone noticed that the first verse is about cancer, and radiation tharapy when it was a lot deadlier, and getting cancer is basically death, unless you find it extremely early
Hi, I'm Matt Pinfield, and here's my favorite band: Everybody!
Mr Les Claypool is a God!
fave
the guitar is great also
I love the PRS sound
the closed hi hat work from brain is fucking mesmerizing

I wouldn’t say he can sing 😂 but that’s what makes it unique
@Glennardthebassist I happen to be a female and I cannot get my eyes off them and I just love this sultry bass.
@GoGoNards Its actually the one Claypool enjoyed recording the least, lets not even mention touring. No wonder its the last one.
Extended tapping outro from Les 😂
One Bad Ass Song coming right up!! served by your friends PRIMUS!!
!!!ROCK AND ROLL!!!
prolly 1 of there top 5 songs
if i remember, he's used the black CT 4 string a lot of times. in a video of lacquer head live he's using it. im pretty sure that he got it w/ black finish tho
Primus rules. I was such a primushead in the 90's all my friends call me Primus and half of them don't know my real name. Da best evah!!
