Sometimes I’m really grateful that I was a teenager in the 90s. Got to see lots of these bands in their prime. Lollapalooza 93. Primus headlining right after Pork Soda came out. AIC right after Dirt. Dinosaur Jr. RATM. Tool (undertow era). Fishbone. That was just one day in 93.
Such a great time. Authenticity in popular music. I miss those days. I’m an old fogey now lol

Bob Bernard yeah. I remember really being excited to see tool because sober had just come out and it had me curious. Their set blew me away and I ran right out and got Undertow and Opiate the next day lol.
Weird fact. I also went to Lollapalooza 97, with Failure, Orbital, Korn and Tool (again!). Tool was, I believe, the first band to have a return spot on the yearly festival. Meaning they were invited back in 97 after already playing in 93. Probably because they were only a 2nd stage act in 93, as u mentioned, and now that Aenima was out, they had proven themselves to be more than a 2nd stager.

I saw them in the Summer of 1991 in Toronto in a tiny bar, I was only 19 but I had a fresh tattoo and the doorman let me in as long as I didn't order any liquor. Primus was amazing, as you all know already, and they even played a bit of Thieves by Ministry. It's a great memory. The following day was the first Lollapalooza I saw, and I saw all of them in the 90's. I played the Sailing the Seas of Cheese tape in my car for it seems a solid decade. I might even have the remains of that tape today. Dang, these are good memories.

The technology was around for high resolution and audio recording in the early 90's, it just was on tape and most of it didnt get digitized until recently. The stereotypical poor quality videos youre thinking of usually come from the early 2000s when people were impatient to switch over to digital video cameras, even though the quality was garbage compared to the previous generation of tape-based cameras.
Its probably the only time in human history when audio/video recordings actually got worse instead of improving. Human nature sure is funny sometimes.

Crazy bass technica. That's why when you hear Claypool you know right away it's him. He doesn't really play bass like anyone else. Lyrics just sound the same but again, it's awesome. No wonder why he made it.

I hear so much of Robert Fripp's influence in Ler's playing.

      *****
What are you referring to, Ler has admitted to having been inspired by King Crimson and it shows in his playing. He's not a clone of Fripps way of playing but there's still a lot of it audible.

Sometime in the mid 1980s, a buddy and I went to San Francisco. Didn't have any planes, just went t hang out, drink, smoke, and have fun. Typically we'd just bounce from from one area to the next. Went to see what was happening in the Height Street area, and what do ya know, it was the Height Street Fair! Almost as much fun as the Folsom Street Fair (those that have been, know)! On a side street a bunch of bands were playing, and just as we got there Primus hit the stage. Now back then, no one had heard of these guys, but by the end of their short set, we were hooked. Around that time, they were playing "somewhere" in the Bay Area around 6 or 7 times a year, under different names (Bob Cock and his Yellow Sock at DNA, anyone?). We tried to go to every show. Saw them last back in November in Sac. Must have been 30thish show. Thanks, guys, for a lifetime of great tunes and good times!!

    The Toys Go Winding Down
    Primus
the songs lyrics come straight from “Toyz 1988” by sausage, Les Claypool’s short lived funk rock band before Primus.
    Produced by
Larry LaLonde, Tim “Herb” Alexander & 2 more
    Release Date
    February 7, 1990
    [Verse 1]
An overaged boy of 39 has left the wing today
The first time in his life he's made that step
Be numbed by the society and plagued by his insecurity
He's entered in a race that must be won
One of the animals has left its cage today
In search of better things, so it seems to be
But in this land of polyurethane
Things are apt to get a bit hot
    [Chorus]
As the toys go winding down
    [Verse 2]
C.G. The Mexican is a friend of mine
We used to sit around the house watching *Evil Dead*
Talking about the way it used to be
    Skit dat daddle dee dee
We used to pull the stripers out of San Pablo Bay
Now the delta waters going down SoCal
And the stripers start to fade away
It's pudding time! It's pudding time!
    [Chorus]
As the toys go winding down
As the toys go winding down
As the toys go winding down
As the toys go winding down
