    How are the wheel spokes sealed? Is the system the same as that used with the Guzzi Stelvio where each spoke is sealed individually inside the rim?

    Got my Tenere 700 last spring. Wish this bike would have been available then. Dont get me wrong, I love my Tenere 700, but this bike is sooooo appealing. I want to know how she feels on a proper 500-700 mile day. I may be taking the 700 on a planned 7k mile ride this summer.

    Superb content Ian, great job!!! The manufacturers really need to up their game when it comes to wind management. Wind noise and buffeting are a huge complaint with way too many adv bikes. Nothing is more debilitating on a 300-400 mile day. The engineers need to overrule the marketing people and get wind management sorted.

      Husky does have a tall touring screen coming out supposedly may (in europe ) hopefully it will actually work. I'm 6'3" and have a norden on order. I expect the windscreen and high footpegs to be the biggest hurdles with this bike to get it to work for us tall folks

      That's one thing I just don't understand. Maybe they think there's no one solution for it because potential customers could be 5'6'' or 6'6'' and no one screen would cover both of these customers. Maybe they could have a low/high screen in the option box when you buy it.

    I traded my BMW R 1200 GSA for one of these, after watching your videos. What a load of weight off of me! I’m 70 years old, and I need something lighter. This bike is perfect for me. I’ve owned BMWs for decades. It’s hard to leave that brand. I’ve also owned a Tiger 800. I was disappointed with the Tiger and only kept it 6 months or so. I know, it wasn’t a 900. So far, I love everything about this bike. I found it in Kansas with only 261 miles on it. And I got it for under $12,999! 🤠🤠 Thanks for your informational videos. You’re a big factor in me buying it.

    I would think something like the coolant leaking, even if you can do it yourself, on a brand new bike I would go to the dealer and have them fix it! Thats just not OK in my book, and they need to see it coming with that, so they have a chance at knowing how bad it is, specially if it happens to others too - so it can be fixed!

    Brand new off the floor you had a problem with this bike. This is so typical of Ktm. These are premium priced bikes !
    I find it inexcusable in this day and age this occurs time and time again and with the same very old excuses made to excuse Ktm from their perennial quality control and design faults. There are bikes manufactured in India at a fraction of Ktm prices that can travel around the world and not have any faults. I’ve owned 4 Ktms and no more I’m done with them.

    Hello Ian! You did say that you were going to do a comparison to the T7, but im nudging you anyway. See Im looking to get a T7. Im an experienced offroad rider, and I want to get further out in the sticks. I would love something like the Africa Twin, but its to heavy for the riding Im looking at doing. So my question to you is twofold: is the T7 a sound choice (because of light weight). Or is the Norden so much better of a bike that I should get that one and put up with the extra weight?

    • @mindwalkerpod
      @mindwalkerpod 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Another point of consideration is how a bike holds its weight. The t7 centre of mass is notably higher. Ian mentioned the vast difference in felt weight between t7 and new klr being big despite same weight. The Norden/890adv ight wager to feel much easier to pick up relatively. Not only is the tank lower, but it's out to the side meaning a tipped 890 will be closer to upright in a downed position

    • @justsomedude445
      @justsomedude445 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i wanted to like the T7 even after riding one the first time i was still trying to talk myself into it but man soft spongy top heavy and only 70hp , i can throw a bunch of aftermarket $ at it and probably fix some of that but your not going to effect the hp much ...............cant do it , my Norden is at the dealer now

    • @BigRockMoto
      @BigRockMoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Norden or an 890 feels way lighter and can run circles around the T7 on and off road. However the Yamaha will probably be more reliable. I don't really miss my T7, if that helps answer the question

    • @russ4294

      @@BigRockMoto The question mark on reliability has held me back from upgrading my 39k miles crf1000 dct. This bike has never missed a beat since I've owned it and I would be unhappy to have reliability issues on my next bike. I'm strongly considering getting a Norden (if I can find one). You convinced me over the Tiger 900 Rally Pro since I prefer 60-70% dirt (but still want comfort on road).
    Thought I heard there is a possible suspension upgrade available comparable to 890R? (Sorry if you covered this somewhere else.) Actually maybe I'll stick with stock suspension anyway since need road comfort.
    Any updates on wind screens since this was posted?
    Also are heated grips/seat available? I see the electronics seem to support it but don't know if the whole system is available yet.
    I'm in Colorado, few hours from San Juan mountains. Saw your Ophir Pass video. Would you take this bike over Ophir Pass, Engineer Pass, etc. (if didn't have 890R)? Considering trading in my Husky FE501S dual sport for more street riding (ideally would ride there and do the pass on same bike with Norden).

    I have to say, I got my Norden 901 last week and I am so impressed with it. This is my first ADV bike coming from Dirtbikes and Supersports, but man is this thing so flick-able and the control with the Explorer Pack down a couple fire roads has been amazing. I can't wait to get this thing on some of our more harder trailer here in CO, as it feels so nimble and controllable. I am interested to see more on those Tusk Bark Busters/Panniers on the bike of yours in the background.
    I look forward to see your results on your windshield spoilers and aftermarket windshields to help with that wind buffeting. As the biggest reason I went to an ADV bike, is I wanted nice set the cruise control and it's super bearable in comparison of flying up the highway on my super sport. But the mid-size of this bike allows me to go venture off on all the little off-shoot trails here and go explore.
    I also think this is one of the best looking bikes on the market, but I love that classic big round center headlight look. Keep the Norden videos coming!

    Morning Ian
    I live on Vancouver Island and I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my 901. I am really enjoying watching your multi-episode review of this bike as it is a great education and I know it will help me to get comfortable quicker with my Norden when it arrives. I am wondering if you have heard anything about the issues related to the rear shock on this bike. It is my understanding that there have been several owners that have had the bike arrive with fluid leaking from the rear shock which has quickly transformed into failure of the shock. I have been told that Norden/KTM is aware of the issue and is in the process of rectifying it. Maybe we can swap it out with the 890R rear shock? I am also waiting to see what you do about getting a more functional windscreen for your 901. I hope you find us a decent aftermarket screen (similar to the BMW F850 GS Adventure). Why would Husqvarna put such a low end screen on a bike they are marketing as a travel bike?
    Get up the great work Ian!

    I’m not a camera geek, but if it were me I’d either get a different lens to get both you and the bike in focus (google depth of field), or you need to sit closer to the bike so both are in focus. No sense in having you in 1/3 of the shot and a fuzzy bike in 2/3 of the shot. If anything, it’s the bike that should be in focus as you discuss aspects of it. If you’re discussing hoodies, then you got the focus right. 😏

    Regarding seat height - i am only 5'8" with a 29 inseam, so getting feet on the ground is tough. But i wont give up this bike, the 901, its great! So i decided to take the seat to an upholstery company and they reworked it, shaved it down, narrowed t , brought in the sides a bit, like cinching a persons waist, and now the balls of my feet are on the ground. Big improvement. Still plenty of cushion on top for the backside but The seat is not as fully padded as it was from the factory. For the short rides ( 30 min- 2 hrs ) has not had much of an impact on comfort in its new form. Will have to see if any impact on the long rides - but i doubt it as they molded the seat to let the legs fall down closer to the bike and lower on the seat.

    I think my only question is about being on the hwy or interstate and have watched a bunch of your video's I have had a ton of bikes and currently a 2015 bmw 1200gs and a 2015 KTM 500 and a RM250. Im wondering if I could ditch the two big ones and go with the Norden? Sounds like everything is good just wondering how is it on the interstate doing 75 or 80 for long periods of time and lasting? Ride on

    Hi from Australia Ian. Living in a hot climate in QLD, motorcycle that pump out heat are a big negative such as previously owned Tiger 1200’s etc.
    I note that you say the Tuareg 660 bathes the lower legs in heat so my question is, how is the 901 regarding engine heat?
    I realise you might not be able to ascertain this his given your current winter season but are there any indications so far?
    Cheers Dave

    Every bmw forum I’ve seen all the bmw guys say ktm will never have bmw reliability, I’ve had both. Anything mechanical will break. But the cost of bmw repairs are brutal for parts. My ktm 1290 isn’t as refined as the 18 Rally GSA but has served its purpose well. I’m slowly moving more to the ktm side for fun factor without worrying I’m going to drop the 34k GSA here in Canada.

    What I have noticed is OEM turn signals tend to be both very fragile in spills and comparitively very expensive to replace compared to cheap LED aftermarket short stalk blinkers. Mainly it is because the OEM have to meet DOT width requirements so they stick way out plus are larger overall and so are more visable probably brighter too.... but if one does hardly any around town street riding? I advise one with a new dual sport or adventure bike (that plans on doing a ton of offroad anyway) to consider just immediately swapping out the OEM blinkers for what I consider disposable Ebay LED units...I have installed several of these and they work albeit you may have to swap out the relay to an adjustable LED unit....which the automotive ones are as littel as $4 delivered...on KTM will not not fit the harness connector so I simply clipped that off (leaving enough wire to splice it back if I sell the bike ...maybe) and then you simply crimp on female spade connectors whch plug right on to the adjustable relay...These $15 a set signals are such short stalks (and yes they have rubber flx section alsothey never seem to get damaged....and if one did? less than $5 to replace if you bought an extra set for spares. As shown in this video the KTM Husky signals easily snap in two and lens collapses easily....I wish I had not waited to swap them out when I bought the bike....I knew better

    On the skid plate/speghetti strainer one has to wonder if they had to do all those holes to keep things tolerably cool. I understand with the OEM cat/exhaust the 890 adv will flat roast you and so maybe (idk) you can only get away with a non ventilated skid plate if you first lose the cat? Especially since there is more fairing wind protection on the Norden than the 890adv ...just a thought

    I would suspect that it being a European bike, that they love to torque every nut, bolt, and screw, and I am sure that they did that for the hose clamp. I am sure that Husky will address this at the factory level in the future.

    Huskvarna was a really reliable bike when it was built in Sweden, when they started to be built in Italy, something happened and everything changed. I'm talking about old bikes (I owned one long time ago), but it looks to me that the reliabilty is not even now a favorable point of this brand.

    No hay moto perfecta y creo el calor que transmite la Norden es algo que puedo criticar hasta el momento. Los demás temas son accesorios que se resuelven. Es rápida, cómoda, ágil y su electrónica funciona muy bien! 🇲🇽

    Following your last Norden video, a dealer search found I have a new dealer one mile away from where I live. I have now seen the bike in the flesh. One of my concerns is that from what I understand KTM only fit one compression ring on their pistons instead of the normal two. If this is the case, how many other corners have they cut. I have an Africa Twin and a lighter bike might have some appeal. I don't however want to buy a load of bad news. I need to consider how reliable this thing would be. Thanks from across the pond..

    Hi Ian……thanks for the videos. I am becoming a consistent viewer because of the unbiased quality of the work. The QA session on the Norden is great. I have an 890 Rally and love it. I now own a Norden 901 and love it the same. I did put the same suspension on the 901 that is on the Rally. It is truly the same bike in every way with the new suspension. There is literally no difference in the motorcycles at this point.
