Impressed! I was actually dead set on purchasing a Ducati Desert x…. and then I watched this video series of this bike that you made, and I just love the way it drives. Thanks for being a pioneer for this bike! I’m in Central California- if I buy one of these babies, we should hit the road sometime.
“Dude, you can haul ass on this thing”. Ian, one of the key attributes that I love about you is your stoic, no BS, facts based reviews. To hear the joy in your voice that you had on this ride and even a few laughs speaks volumes. Great work, great review.
Still think it will be a while before I get tired of the simplicity, reliability and all around fun factor of the T7 but agree if I was looking at that next level of tech/power then this would definitely be one for me to consider
Great Video. I also really liked your video on the CB500X, and asking yourself is more really needed. I think the 901 is great, but just not sure 100hp is really needed. I hope that Honda eventually comes out with a "Halfrica" twin....and the lower CC the better. If it's an 850, fine...but 500, 600, or 750 would be plenty in my book. Lastly, I think the 901 could use a high fender kit.
Another phenomenal review by TH-cam's best motorcycle reviewer. Thank you for creating it. At first glance, this bike's fairing appears to obstruct the addition of engine guards. I, personally, cannot ride an adventure bike for hours if I cannot stretch my legs out and place them on some foot pegs that are attached to some engine guards. That requirement comes with being a geezer rider. :)
I see many people complementing you for this review Ian, but this is what I’ve come to expect after following you for a long time. This is the gold standard on TH-cam when it comes to bike reviews. Amazing work!
Love your content man, very down to earth and relatable. And I also appreciate you putting in the metric units for folks that use them. Keep up the good job, your channel will grow quite a bit, I am 100% convinced!
I can’t say enough about how good your reviews are. I’m actually getting a little rush watching your POV riding and you’re really helping narrow down my next purchase.
Ian, congratulations on the 901! Hearing the excitement in your voice as you took it off road, was awesome! Seems like the Norden may be the perfect ADV bike.😉Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Rich
Felt and thought exactly the same listening you off road!! This Husky has to be superb to change away your hart so fast from the T7 and your 1250. Waiting more videos, particularly on relaibility of this beautiful beast. Thanks

I have in total about 80.000. Km on the previous and current model 1290 SA. No issues whatsoever. A couple of times the electronics did not initialize properly but that was caused by my releasing the start button just a touch early so it just hung on… easily solved by a redo.
Hi Ian, I consider your channel as the best source of information about new bikes. Your reviews are really complex, I like the way you think about all aspects od everyday life with the bike and all the practical questions.
Dude, make your videos how you want to make them. I personally like how informative your videos are. It sure beats having you rush through them. Its not natural for you. Its natural for you to be informative. Let the haters go purchase a bike they know nothing about and make they're own videos. Peace!

Ian I ride the 901 and I love "dude you can haul ass on this thing" that pops in my head when I give it gas and I smile and laugh! I love your videos! What a fun bike!
As always a superb / professional review, probably the best on youtube regarding reviewing motors. Can you recommend the bike as first bike? I am searching a versatile bike, not to powerful but enough to be satisfied in long terms, comfortable not too big an heavy because I am not that tall 1.71m, but I love the looks. I love mountainbiking / gravelriding not too technical. Finally I am looking forward to the next following reviews, Keep it up the good work
I have a 790 Adventure S converted into R. Bought new August of 2020 so far 5K+ miles, 25% off road. My bike has andriani fork cartridges and ohlins rear shock. Rottweiler Airbox, full arrow system, Rally Mode. Love it, not a single problem
Heaps of people endlessly praising the bike. Ur review actually breaks down things with actual descriptions of the feedback u got or didn’t get. Fuck, this review is good. Though it was gonna be like gonna be like a Knox commercial cough** I mean review. Well done. Chefs kiss.
I have a deposit on the T7 but you are really selling me on the 901. My biggest concern is reliability, I know there has been a lot of issues with 890's. I will be adventuring into some fairly remote areas up here in BC. Great video, keep em coming! 👍
I am in the same boat. I'm looking at the transalp or this bike. I like the power and gadgets in the Norden but the reliability of the Honda engine just cant be beat. specially when in Canada down time is wasting a lot of riding time since we cant ride 1/2 the year. And every page I have seen so far mentions the issues KTM and Husqvarna are likely to have.
Well done Ian. I second the recognition of your “honeymoon” comment. Very thoughtful. I currently have a GS and will always love it. But this Husky looks brilliant. Thank you for all your hard work. Cheers!
While I agree it's a bit unfair I'd really like to see a T700 vs Norden video specifically geared to a set up adv travel bike. What you'd replace before leaving (windshield, skid plate, etc), how they do with luggage and more than anything hassle free reliability. Having just returned from Baja alone last week my biggest want is not breaking down in the middle of friggin nowhere!!

Great vid man! I just put a deposit down on an 890R after they sold the last 901 the day before I got to the dealer. Very jealous you were able to get one, but it’s awesome seeing your videos! I’ll hit ya up once I end up down near Death Valley/socal on two wheels!
Great video Ian! Finally some non-sponsored content! I’m really glad you’re blown away by the bike as it’s validating my decision to order one too! Keep making the content, there’s a huge market for genuine honest insightful videos I think! Cheers!
Awesome review Ian! Attention to detail like the metric and imperial units displayed is super helpfull. I hope over time the refinement and reliability will shine over the 890r ... time will tell
We need you to "talk too much", which is not only "not enough" of your unmatched analysis & description.., but also you have a very calm & relaxing voice! Great review as always, good luck, keep'em comin', we love you bro 👌
Your videography must be better than most, as you make this big Husky look sleek and handsome vs. a chunky Lego look like most video magazine. Very well done!
Perfectly said in comparison to the 890R! Where I love my KTM 890R, the stock suppression on the street is brutal on bumpy roads and I'm still getting it worked on. I figured the the 901 would split the difference between 890S and 890R.
Ian, first of all, as always, a great review! I'm so impressed that I am going to go to my local dealer tomorrow and sit on one. But most importantly, I wanted to comment on what a beautiful place you live. The scenery is beautiful and it looks like paradise. Can you say generally where you are located? Its absolutely beautiful. Thanks for all you do for your fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. Kudos!
Ian, I frickin' love your intensity & passion for getting to know (i.e. discover/ reveal) this bike...which I'd never heard of before this review! I've just watched part one & beginning of two in series, I'm feeling total excitement & engagement with your totally intense involvement -(a very attractive obsession). Looks like we're in for a feast...so let's 'eat'- The Norden. I'm a Ducati man- DesertX (plus other Ducati models) but totally intrigued by your approach- methodical, fanatical, brilliant analysis- as usual, so thank you for entertainment Ian, cheers Nick
I agree Ian the moto community really lacks for the gritty every day details and you do a good job with that. I don’t feel the bike is for me but still enjoyed the content. Be safe and enjoy the ride!
That’s the best review I’ve ever seen No BS, I am so impressed how the bike handles especially with those standard tyres in the dirt, that’s the next bmw gs replacement Wow can’t wait for it to hit our shores in Australia thanks can’t wait for the rest actually saying how it is, is unbelievable no one does that they sugar coat it big time 👍👍👍👍 thank you!!!!
Thanks. I only recently found your channel but have watched a bunch of your videos and I think you do a really good job of providing an objective view of the bikes. In this video you even mentioned the 'honeymoon phase' and I think it is good that you recognize that and admit that to us and further convinces me that you try to be objective. Good job!
Your genuine and thoughtful approach make your videos more than useful - some of the best on TH-cam in my opinion. They are engaging, entertaining and educational. Thank you for the effort you put into each video.
My wife was getting really sick of me talking about this video and waiting for it to drop. Excellent takes as always. Looking forward to seeing your remedy on the wind noise; this was a big problem on my T7 and I wear some fantastic earplugs. MadStad has a great setup for the 890, but their Husky products are very limited.
Terrific job, Ian. That is a great report of first impressions. So thorough. You have a beautiful place there and nice roads to ride right out your door. Blessings!
Great review! I'm hoping to buy this bike soon, just have to sell my 790R! A lot of T7 fans here talking about reliability but with tube tires and small gas tanks that would worry me more than electronics. In over 8 thousand miles my 790 never left me stranded. Thanks for your time ian.
Thanks so much for the great review! I love the lower CG being a shorter and older rider. Don't laugh but I love my F700GS for the low CG and seat height. Well until I ride at freeway speeds. My dentist loves it. Filling work pays for his vacations! If there is a lower seat height option, I will look at this. 5'9" 30" inseam. Both feet flat on the ground makes me feel safer. No drops on pavement after 1,000s of miles. Dirt is another story...
Watched this video twice now and a huge thanks to Ian for providing. So, let me latch onto this statement: "This bike, because it is based on the 890 platform is the best adventure bike, multi-cylinder adventure bike, for off-roading, ever made". That is a huge statement right there! While you mentioned the honeymoon period and your predisposition to bias I don't agree with you Ian. Your review is inline with every other motoring journo's review in that the bike is sensational. It is sensational on the road and it is sensational off the road. I appreciate the price and features comparo with its closest rivals and on paper the Norden simply nails it. Also, throwing out the T7 as a direct competitor is a fair statement, well played mate. So, thanks, a huge thanks, for starting this series and I for one will be watching with huge interest. Now, about that 501.....!!!
I'm going to get this as my second bike and I ride a KLR right now. I guess I'll be absolutely blown away based on your impression hahahaha. So excited.
Brilliant review Ian. Loved the "I am without words" off road portion! Looks like a great bike to ride. Hate the looks unfortunately... 105HP! Wow. Nice..
Great content. I JUST bought a 2021 KTM 890 S YESTERDAY! They had 2 of these on the floor and I was intrigued. They gave me a fabulous deal on the KTM 890 so I couldn't pass on it.
@@ryanrogers8211 $14K out the door. EVERYTHING (7.75 % Tax, Freight, Prep, Title, Lic, fee ... etc) all included + $460 for the full tech package. (SoCal) so 14,460 if your picky.
That looks like the perfect bike, watching the speedo readout changing so quickly when you goosed it - wow, fast. I remember the original Huskies back in the '70s, even then they were comparatively extremely capable bikes.
Thanks for sharing another great video a lot of the high preference engine kind a sound a little weird at idle maybe it's their own way of saying that they are Ready to Race
Super stocked to see this through the paces. This one looks like its gonna be my next short distance ADV (depending on reliability) Thanks for the rip on it. Im local to ya so will be hitting the same stuff.
I own a Husqvarna 701 Svartpilen and it's engine is also quite rattle-y at idle. Not nearly as bad as a Ducati dry clutch, but (arguably) similar in character. At first it was rather annoying to me, having owned many Hondas and and a few Triumphs (Tiger 800 most recently) that idled very quitely. But, as you've said, that engine noise all but disappears when the engine is under load, and wind and tire noise (esp w/ knobbies) become dominant. And... you'll be having such a great time enjoying the power and character of the motor, not to mention the superb handling of the bike, that you won't have a thought at all about any engine noises other than that very agreeable one being emitted by the exhaust. I absolutely love my 701. It's perfect for the tight Appalachian roads I ride. Because of this positive experience with the Husqvarna, I'm considering the 901 to replace the Tiger 800 XCx I sold last year. I'm also, of course, considering the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. However, I'm not sure how I would feel about the new 900's engine vibes, having own the smooth 800, and there's a lot to be said for the price and weight (and weight distribution) advantage the 901 has over the Triumph. Since you've reviewed the Rally Pro, and ended up buying the 901, your preference is obvious. Can you comment on the high speed (70mph+) comfort and handling of the 901, particularly in comparison to the Rally Pro? Thank-you for the very informative review, and competitive comparison. Much appreciated.
I knew better to watch this! Great initial review. I currently have a Super Tenere for my adventure bike. Really considering the 390 adventure but man this bike sounds great. I have ridden the 790, and I was blown away on how light the bike felt, with the low center of gravity. That's what kept me on the fence with the T7. I may need to re- think my bike plans. Thanks for great info.
The 390 is a fun little bike. A full hundred pounds lighter than the 890. Handles well in all conditions. If ground clearance isn't a deal breaker for the money it's a win imo. I have a 790 and 390. The 390 is like a toy it feels so light. I was very impressed with it for the money.
I've got a Super T as well and am considering an 890 or Norden. The Super is a marvelous touring bike, but it lacks a lot of excitement and thrill that got me into motorcycling to begin with. Big questions on reliability from the KTM/Husky bikes, but it seems like most of those horror stories are from people that haven't owned them before.
S10 guy too. Ill still grab the S10 keys for my interstate touring, but Im really digging this for shorter riding ADV for more local trips. Looking for more mileage reviews on reliability, but sold on one for now.
@@elindenstein I haven't had any issues out of either of mine. I have 8k on the 790. Zero issues. The 390 has had zero issues as well. But less miles than tbe 790.
Nice to hear you like the suspension. That was putting me off the bike. I think the bike is an incredible value. I recently purchased a Specialized electric mountain bike that cost more than the Norden! Seems like the Norden could steal sales from the KTM 890 bikes, but all owned by KTM so not so bad I guess. I look forward to you future videos on the Norden. Thanks!

Blessings!
thanks
Another outstanding initial analysis.Good job,thanks.
Much appreciated!
Well done. The 13:40 point and beyond had me grinning along with you! Thanks!
man this is going to double the subscribers for you, killer good job on these reviews. I'm not buying any parts until you test them out.
Great honest, concise review
Thanks so much for the great review! I love the lower CG being a shorter and older rider. Don't laugh but I love my F700GS for the low CG and seat height. Well until I ride at freeway speeds. My dentist loves it. Filling work pays for his vacations! If there is a lower seat height option, I will look at this. 5'9" 30" inseam. Both feet flat on the ground makes me feel safer. No drops on pavement after 1,000s of miles. Dirt is another story...
A great overview for a first look! Thanks for the excellent work. Glad you bought this particular model, looking forward to all the reviews on it.
How about comfort in seat/footpeg ratio? Is Your legs bended more than in example Africa Twin? Great review by the way 💪👍
excellent. BTW, your new/current intro is awesome too. It's the little things that matter. 74K and growing.
Hi Ian.. lots have changed since youbdid this video but it's convinced me to buy one and they're cheaper now the expedition is coming. Thx again.
You're so decent in your reviews
A real pleasure to watch
Thanks
If possible can we create a side by side comparison between this and T7?! Will be really great.
Next time I'm in Colorado (late-Spring) we should plan a ride! I'd love to see your new Norden 901.
So excited.
Fantastic lights, so important on an Adventure Bike, any bike really.
What was the deal you got?
@@ryanrogers8211 $14K out the door. EVERYTHING (7.75 % Tax, Freight, Prep, Title, Lic, fee ... etc) all included + $460 for the full tech package. (SoCal) so 14,460 if your picky.
Would be interesting to see the Aprilla Tuareg 660 compared to the Husqvarna Norden 901 for purchasing and long term ownership. Which is better.
Good work man!🤘🏽
Awesome video and glad you are happy so far with your new bike
Great video, details, comparisons. Also the bike is so pretty! :)
Fantastic first look, thank you for being genuine in your vids!
Solid review as usual 👍🤘
Much appreciated!
You got me thinking about trading in the AT 😂
Really good start to the reviews. Looking forward to what’s to come. I’m liking the bike.
Nice review, picking up on the little things, like the headlight adjuster. Every bike should have one!
Agreed!
People like their 890 KTMs... Glad you like your new one too...
thank you for doing this kind of video. I will probably not gonna be able to buy a Norden, but I love your enthusiasm. Keep it up! great work! 🔥
Those very in depth videos are what the community needs, thank you! I wish i had those kind of videos before buying my versys 650 ;)
Much appreciated.
best reviews in the web!!!
Mate..love the detailed descriptions and the down to earth reviews.
This is how a video should be! Top, thanks for the job
@@elindenstein That will be interesting to hear about the reliability. My ST is super reliable! I love the bike just ready for something lighter.
Thanks!
You lucky sob
keep it comin, much appreciated
