  • In this video, I have to remove the door latch on our 04 Toyota Tacoma SR5. We have parts that are bent and we will decide if we are just fixing it or buying a new latch. Door latches and the alinement of the door striker is very important. If your door is not closing properly then you will need to fix any other broken parts first.
    Tools needed:
    3/8 drive ratchet
    3/8 drive extension 3 inch
    T30 torque bit
    Needle nose pliers
    90 degree pick tool
    1/4 drive ratchet
    10mm 1/4 drive ratchet
    1/4 drive extension 6 inch

Dude! The whole thing about marking the window track bolts and not putting the key in makes you today's youtube star in my book! Those details make or break somebody's epic disaster. Thanks!

It was educational up to a point. ... Wish you would have shown us the work you did -with a flashlight- on the inside of the door panel.

my toyota tacoma is a 1998 sr5 . I am having trouble replacing that orange clip that holds the connecting rod from the insidedoor handle to the door latch. My question is : do I have to take doorlatch out to replace that orange clip ? quite cramped to get tool or hand in.

Yes it is tight fit but with a 90 degree pick tool you will be able to unclip the orange connector but if it is like mine you will need to use a flat screwdriver to pop the rod out of the door handle. You might have to take the handle out to replace that clip anyway.

I have an issue where my driver door won't lock with the key from the outside. The passenger does it just fine, but not the driver side.
The passenger side has an issue. If the passenger side is locked and a passenger pulls the handle to open the door, the door will not unlock from the inside. I have to get out and pull the outside door handle, then they can unlock the doors from the inside.

Sounds like a bent rod or bad latch

What happens if you turn the truck on with the thing unplugged?

It will set off the security system.

Ok, I’m in a situation with this latch, but on a model WITHOUT power locks - 2004 Tacoma 2wd 5spd - I was trying to replace the exterior door handle, after the plastic cracked - but it was getting dark and I couldn’t finish, so I closed the door…..but without the interior door handle or exterior handle fully connected - now I’m unable to open the door - the mechanism, as far as I can see it, is similar to this, but I’m not wanting to try to hard to manipulate the rods in question - is there some sort of “Vulcan neck pinch” that’ll let me open the door and save the impending disaster?

If the door panel is off, you should be able to get in on the opposite side and use the metal rods to open the door. The remote will not work because the security system is now activated.

That’s the trick with mine, in terms of this video - mine is purely manual. No remote, no power at all to the latch.

I have a question, I noticed a spring What does that spring function or do ???????

    • @BadWrenchAuto
      @BadWrenchAuto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

It returns the door handle so the handle will remain closed when not in use.

You should have started with how to remove the door panel without causing any damage....😑

This happens, and everyone got to see the issue. I covered the issue closer in other videos, and there was preexisting metal fatigue on the metal rods. But I am changing a lot with my content to fix this confusion.
